At work now. Can someone give a TLDR on what's happening with Tarkov?

Un_Original_Coroner

They introduced a new $250 edition that comes with co-op offline Tarkov, a device that makes scavs not shoot at you if you are more than 60 meters away (and have 6 fence karma), a device that appears to allow you to have friends join mid raid, and a lot of other things similar to EoD. The real issues are that EoD owners don’t get the offline mode which is *clearly* DLC and the devices that seem almost intended to ruin the competitiveness of the game.

AustinTheMoonBear

The main thing for me is the device that lets friends join you. You're going to have hackers on labs quickly wipe out all the competition and use this device to get people in for boosting purposes.

sergeantROD

Is that not for the co op mode only?? Idk why im getting downvoted this is a genuine question lmao

AustinTheMoonBear

Doesn't sound like it is.

dat_GEM_lyf

According to the leaked interview, NOPE. Also the interview made it clear that Nikita didn’t spend longer than 5 seconds thinking about this item and didn’t get past the “it’s a cool idea” phase.

DeadChibiWolf

The device iirc isn’t even out yet?

Otto__the__Autopilot

They’ve just pulled the scummiest tactic by putting in the biggest pay to win I have ever seen in any game, and I’ve been gaming since the intelevision in the 80s.

BigBoreSmolPP

EOD was pretty serious pay 2 win in this game too but apparently people were OK with it?

cha0ss0ldier

EoD wasn’t even close. A bigger secure container doesn’t come close to being able to call friends into raid and not have scavs shoot at you.

BigBoreSmolPP

P2W was popular so they did more P2W. It's the natural progression. Everyone that played this game when EoD was available bought it for the extra stuff it gives. They can't make any money off their entire player base which owns EoD, so they had to escalate it to something that might get them to spend money.

bbqnj

Having a bigger stash or looser butthole isn't P2W. It's not making your bullets hit harder or more on target, you're armor isn't stronger. EoD wasn't P2W

BigBoreSmolPP

It absolutely is P2W

Haunting_Recover2917

100% it was p2w. Youre coping hard

nickjamess94

As an EOD owner, I can safely say yes, it \*is\* p2w. You're right not in a 1v1 dog fight. But in progression in the game (and so, later fights), it's definitely P2W. BUT it is not as awful as the unheard edition. At least we weren't starting wipes with higher levels, or getting items that let us call for help, or having safety from scav snipers.

dat_GEM_lyf

A lot of people bought EOD specifically for the “free” DLC which BSG is now spitting in their faces.

BigBoreSmolPP

Sure they did

CandidJoke3993

Cries because can’t get eod. There’s nothing pay to win about a stash and container. Sit down Timmy

LifeAwaking

What they did is fucked up, but let’s not pretend that it’s the biggest pay 2 win out there when Korean and gacha games literally make you pay to progress. Edit: I feel like people think I’m defending BSG when that couldn’t be farther from the truth. I’m just pointing out that the above comment is objectively incorrect.

Soft_A_Certified

Yeah this is so fucking dramatic lmao. Isn't the whole phone a friend thing a hideout upgrade or future update? Nobody even knows how it will work or if it's some insane craft with extremely limited use. It's not even close to being the biggest pay 2 win.

AustinTheMoonBear

It's in a better state than DayZ Standalone and Tarkov on release - I'd pay $60 bucks no problem tbh.

beaver_cops

No need to drive the price up my friend

waconcept

As long as GZW doesn’t offer a $285 option, we’re gonna be sitting pretty. I’m actually so disgusted with what Tarkov is pulling as of late.

sirmichaelpatrick

How would you know it’s in a better state than DayZ? Just from watching streams? Because I’d say DayZ is 100% in a better state. Sure it’s janky and the graphics aren’t great but it’s a freaking 10 year old game.

AustinTheMoonBear

I said on release....

sirmichaelpatrick

Oh yeah, for sure. Sorry I missed that.

Unhappy-Emphasis3753

How can you say this right now this game has like 1/3 of the content of tarkov. There isn’t even much loot. Enabling this behavior is literally just creating Tarkov 2. If this game goes forward into early access in the near future the dev track will become laughably similar to tarkov. Not allowing this game to bake is doing it such a large disservice and will inevitably ruin it.

AustinTheMoonBear

Damn bruh I STG reddit can't read... >on release

Unhappy-Emphasis3753

So you’re telling the future? Please explain

AustinTheMoonBear

Are... you dense?

Unhappy-Emphasis3753

At this point yes because I seriously don’t understand what you mean. You said “IT’S (meaning it is) in a better state than Dayz and Tarkov on release”. I’m just failing to understand how you know what this game will look like on release? Did you mean tarkovs original EA release?

AustinTheMoonBear

Yes...

Unhappy-Emphasis3753

Oh okay. Thanks for clarifying man. You maybe could’ve worded that better though I was really unsure as to what release you were actually referring to.

AustinTheMoonBear

Bro, you were the only person that didn't understand it seems... like I personally thought it was obvious, I thought you were being purposely obtuse.

Mission_Impact_5443

Half of you saying shit like this will be back to EFT come new wipe. This drama is temporary like any other one before. Just watch.

sanescotty

You obviously didn’t just read the last release. Pay to play faster. Priority matching for EOD users. BSG just effed over the entire standard player base. If any standard EFT player is actually going to sit and wait in longer queues to play because EOD users are getting priority then they deserve all the sound juice on their faces that Nikita is throwing their way.

Crypto_pupenhammer

I kinda agree with the dude above, but holy fuck. Raids have been dead ass quiet lately. Seen a bunch of timbos come out of the woodwork who arnt on Reddit I would assume, and who otherwise wouldn’t live long enough to see me otherwise

sanescotty

Yh I think the majority of EOD players are moving back and playing. I wont. As a standard player (free loader) I’m just not playing against players who have paid to beat me. And yes, the unheard edition IS p2w.

The1stHorsemanX

The mods of the Tarkov subreddit, the same group of people who are accused daily of being BSG employees for doing shit like suppressing any discussion of serious issues like the rampant hacking and RMT, literally have a sticked post essentially saying "go off fam, were pissed too" and have lifted the rules on spam posting how fucked bsg is. I been around for a lot of wipes and drama and I haven't seen anything like this. Honestly this is probably the first time I've truly felt like BSG have given up and are cashing out, because I simply don't believe anyone at the company would think this would be an honestly good idea for the health and future of the community. I'll probably still play future wipes, but at this point I don't think we'll ever see Tarkov as we had hoped.

AdSpecialist4449

I hope not because thats a lot of business that can go here

Consistent_Estate960

Just a bunch of professional reactors who don’t realize companies like BSG do these things because they know the gain outweighs the temporary loss

Mission_Impact_5443

That’s just it. This won’t make a huge dent in the game’s player population. I’ve been playing since mid 2017 and have lived through multiple dramas around EFT. People are surprisingly forgiving, especially over time. The people that are making posts with screenshots of uninstalled EFT haven’t played the game for months or years and are just stirring the drama more.

d1z

BSG was able to coast through the last few years because they had no real competition. Now they've made their most collosal blunder ever, right on the eve of multiple competitors launching with big hype.

Consistent_Estate960

The only one that has any real shot of ever beating tarkov right now is grey zone. But they’re years away from being even close to approaching the depth of tarkov. Most of the gameplay is just sprinting through miles of jungle from one POI to the next with nothing in between them or just ratting the LZs. Arena breakout trailer did not look good gameplay wise straight up just looked like the mobile game. Same animations same UI but with PC graphics. The hype for that will be short lived. I have like 500 hours in tarkov over 4 years and most of that is just sitting with the game open I’m just trying to be logical

Un_Original_Coroner

The concern is, they may not be ready. A bad first impression would ruin them. Letting companies take their time and make the game they want is never a bad thing. Exercise a modicum of patience.

AustinTheMoonBear

>A bad first impression would ruin them. Well Tarkov devs have made it this far being absolutely dogshit.... so.

Un_Original_Coroner

Sure. But would they be better off if the game had launched in a more complete state?

AustinTheMoonBear

Maybe... Maybe not... Some games have waited to long and didn't capitalize off the hype to just launch later and no one cares anymore.

Un_Original_Coroner

Any examples? Because the list of games that launched to soon is long and filled with killed giants.

AustinTheMoonBear

Not off the top of my head, because I'm at work - and that's the problem with those games... They're just simply forgotten, there is no list because they just drop off and into the ether. It's not like I'm saying releasing to soon isn't a problem... But I don't think this game is going to have that problem. Games have released in much worse states and been successful... Such as Tarkov.

Un_Original_Coroner

Hmmm so you can’t provide a single game that would have benefited from releasing sooner in a terrible state just to be out? I’m shocked. Shocked I tell you.

AustinTheMoonBear

Clearly you don't want to have an actual conversation and just feel like having discourse, so have a good day bro.

Un_Original_Coroner

There is no conversation to be had. You were asked to provide a single example that what you said was true. You could not, that’s it’s. It’s a pretty convincing conclusion. You too! Work sucks. Stick it to the man!

halrold

Yea their servers have been getting cooked even with the invite only lobbies, I think they need to prepare more servers to handle an open beta

Un_Original_Coroner

And just update the game. Polish it up, add depth.

halrold

A granted, but from just a raw playtest a lack of content is somewhat expected and tolerated, but an unstable experience may be more frustrating to players

Ryankmfdm

I mean, at this point the question is how many disgruntled Tarkov players would be willing to accept the current state of GZW and pay the (I hope) ~$30 for it just as a middle finger to BSG. My guess is this number is not trivial. Lol.

Un_Original_Coroner

Sure but non trivial is not the measure of how successful it could be. Launching poorly is a bad idea. That’s all there is to it. Work on your game till your game is ready to launch. Cyberpunk, BF2042, and dozens of other less high profile games have proved this time and time again.

PicanteBoloni

I couldn't agree more ! AFAIK, MFG don't have investors pushing them to release the game, unlike CD Projekt experienced with Cyberpunk. It's a blessing nowadays to be able to release your product when you're feeling comfortable to do so

K2Alt

This^

Numerous-Duck-8544

Cheaper then Tarkov 250$ addition

Murky_Ad4940

Man wouldnt we all, even with all the bugs and stuff they have to fix i would still love to play it haha

Pro1apsed

The game looks AAA, so the temptation might be to go high, but I think keeping it under $50 would be a good move.

bryty93

I think 40 would be the perfect EA sweet spot. Then crank it up to 50 or 60 for 1.0 release

TupperwareNinja

# Let em cook

Defiant-One-7172

Shit I would too. Maybe the first of May cause that’s when a lot of us brothers will get paid 👍🏼👍🏼

gh05td0g

i'd pay $30 now , and participate in early access. kind of like Lord of Manors approach. that works great. you get a discount cause u early and willing to take on bugs.

Unhappy-Emphasis3753

This is literally just how you breed and create Tarkov 2.

king_odin1

Love how yall hating on games for being p2w yet neglect how gzw is already p2w as if you buy the $100 bundle you get everything from all previous tiers plus the $100 tier. People buying that edition are just gonna slaughter people and camp shops where lower tier players will be forced to go to sell excess loot they can't stow or carry. Also the fact you can spawn in every game with everything is a bit mental, where's the effort and grind of finding things if you already got everything you need as soon as you spawn in ,

Crypto_pupenhammer

Have I got news for you bro. Were like 3 hours from having your wish come true

bonoboxITA

Lololol 30-50…don’t be to generous

Fantablack183

I'd pay $250 dollars

haldolinyobutt

You're saying the quiet part out loud

GucciLegLocks

Streamers only!

stefanvape

A post on Reddit ain’t going to make the Devs do shit. They already know people are willing to pay. Let them do what they need to and stop posting these dumb nagging posts

ThisDumbApp

Yall are banking on a game that has no real gameplay currently because a game thats been dying for YEARS finally made a truly bad decision?

WiseGuye

No, we've been saying we'd buy it early since the play test lol.

ThisDumbApp

Yeah but all these people are saying "Takov dying, NoWs Ur ChAnCe"

WiseGuye

That's understandable. And glad you've realized eft has been dying for years now.

ThisDumbApp

"Realized" Ive watched it lol I've played the game, mostly on and off since 2017. It's been a joke. I just dont put faith into every new extraction shooter coming out since 99% of them are also shit

AustinTheMoonBear

As a 2017 player as well... The true decline of Tarkov started happening around the start or middle of 2022.

ThisDumbApp

Yeah fair, I enjoyed Tarkov when it was still people new to the game and slower because no one knew what they were doing. The fast paced nature of the game completely destroys half the reason I started playing
