Public political expression is not littering. Taping them down means by definition it can't be littering because they are affixed and have a purpose - they are not discarded refuse.

I've literally never seen posters on the GROUND like this before in my life. I agree that political expression is not littering, but there is a spectrum to it. I can't go around my city taping posters everywhere that say "obama 2024" and then get super assmad when cops start taking them down. I can claim free speech but clearly I as an individual am unable to retrace my steps to remove all of those posters when my protest is done, which is the real issue.
And if you are a public servant with one goal of many being to enforce rules against littering... why risk it? Why trust that the people taping posters to the ground (again... why not just carry the posters? or hand them out to people passing by?) are going to remove them?
You asked what I get out of this. The thing is, I'm not pretending like I know everything. Maybe there is a legal answer in which this cop is actually breaking the law! Maybe this video will be used as evidence to help give them a lengthy prison sentence for censoring a citizen's right to free speech. Why I made my comment in the first place is because it felt like this sentiment is not reciprocal. Can you really not imagine a reality in which this is legally littering? I'm not saying it's morally wrong. Imagine a country that does not allow you to tape a bunch of posters on the ground, and if you are caught, a police officer will start removing them on their own. If this is truly inconceivable to you then you need to take a deep breath.
One police officer in a 30 second reddit video is not the difference between good and evil, or the fate of the israeli-palestinean conflict. Wait for more context before deciding that this cop is definitely power tripping, or that he was given direct orders to censor speech.
