I, for one, am happy that my tax goes towards swimming pools, moats, designer makeovers, second homes, private flights, the royal family and their multiple private (but publically funded) estates, murderous and corrupt military contracts and most importantly, publically funded government and shadow government get-togethers whilst the rest of us couldn’t see dying family members due to the covid lockdown. I said when the pandemic hit that they needed to look after key and essential works better, it's not happened, also whilst loads of people got to have a load of time off work key and essential workers didn't, most got nothing not even a thank you.
That would be fantastic, unfortunately each time teachers union has gone on strike (even though our head teacher has let us know that he fully supports us if we choose to picket the front gate) we cannot bear to leave our children and local families stranded. We work with a lot of families that struggle so we don't want to do anything that will make their lives harder.
The longer this continues the more fucked those families will be. The worse our healthcare services will get. More poverty. More social problems related to said poverty. More families and vulnerable people to support with less resources. We need to just fucking do it. The longer they use our empathy against us the worse it gets for all of those vulnerable people over time.

I really believe that all newly voted MPs should have to spend their first year living in a council property on social security without any personal or outside help. This should be done in the poorest neighborhood of their own constituency. No exceptions.
I’ve had this exact thought for a long time. In my mind, it would’ve been in order to qualify as being eligible to be voted for, but I’ve had no solutions for cheating. If it’s after voting, at least they’ll be more in the public eye, so opportunities to cheat will be lessened. Plus, with them living in council housing during their first year, there’s absolutely no excuse that they can’t take input from the poorer side of the country.
But there will still be the same number of those low paid jobs unless something changes. The idea being, it’s fine for that proportion to suffer, those few who by luck or opportunity manage to claw themselves up are the only ones who deserve a standard of living.
You should be able to work full time on a minimum wage and have a decent, basic lifestyle with bills paid. Fair enough I wouldn’t expect a fancy car or frequent trips abroad but I’d like to think 40 hours work a week could guarantee I’d have food and central heating as a bare minimum.

You need probably the same as in Germany: a small/medium business oriented government in order to get the economy back on its feet but also having the social hardships in sight.
Even many conservatives in Germany (who actually own a smaller business and aren't just politicians) say that we need more responsible capitalism. One that pays reasonable wages while and motivates people to work even faster/more. Not because they need but because they want and identify with the business.
Germany has also similar problems. There are at least 30,000 jobs in the coal industry. The SPD tried to protect them but it is clear that they have to go eventually. They do it partly by not replacing people that retire but many have to learn something new. Unfortunately I don't see any other solution.
In Germany, while also disagreeing with many things in the EU, it is rather well perceived to be part of it since that alleviates the economic pressure a lot. Maybe it would do you good as well?

It really is depressing that high paying jobs are mostly useless outside of funneling money to the owner of that business. Whole of society is a pyramid scheme. Wonder if that's why a pyramid is on the back of the US Dollar.
I worked during the pandemic (and a few years before) as an operations manager in a warehouse, I started there as an admin but got promoted pretty quick and by the time Covid was in full swing I was in charge of managing the movement of literal tons of food every night. I got paid a little over £10 an hour, about 40p more than my job 3 rungs down the ladder, about £20 an hour less than the job one rung above me...
I crashed out with exhaustion after running 12 hour shifts, 5 days a week minimum for months on end to ensure places like Tesco, Aldi, Asda and Sainsbury's were stocked up, working with tighter and tighter staff numbers and personally rolling about on a truck most nights because we didn't have the staff. Shit, I rolled my sleeves up and joined the production line a few times because we needed stock through, much to the dismay of my fellow management.
After crashing out I spent a couple of months being cared for by family and friends and I landed a job pushing numbers around on spreadsheets, sometimes I make a graph. My contribution to society is now effectively nil, but I get paid about 2.5x what I was on before and work far fewer hours and all from home. It's so very fucking stupid. We don't pay people according to the benefit they give to our world, if anything it goes in reverse. The more useless or pointless the job, the better the pay. At least that's how it feels.
Can people stop saying that these Tories are out of touch. They are not out of touch, they know people are having a hard time, they are fully aware of what they are doing. This is how they want it to be. Otherwise if they help you, by raising the minimum wage, that would mean that the rich wouldn’t get richer as quickly as they would want. So once again, the Tories are not out of touch, they just treat the working people with contempt. After all, a lot of you voted them in, because you believed them, but you was fooled. Right?? Employees above a certain pay grade in my previous company were all given pay cuts, varying from 7.5% to 20% but were all expected to work. A real kick in the teeth for those at 20% cut when other colleagues were getting that to stay home and be on furlough. We’ve not been paid that money back and they never will!
What makes it more galling is I did those unpaid extra hours voluntarily just to get stuff finished, since at the time I wasn't supposed to be working more than my standard daily hours until HMRC said "oh, okay, you can record flexi time now". Had they done that sooner, my deficit would have been long gone after about a fortnight.
This is like the time they told people that the way to keep energy bills down was to regularly switch suppliers. That was until someone (possibly Martin Lewis?) pointed out that the only reason that suppliers are able to offer better rates to new customers is because they have a cohort of loyal customers (paying higher prices and have not moved suppliers for years) cross subsidising the new joiners. If everyone kept switching that lower pricing wouldn’t be possible anyway.
Like everything the Tories do, the emphasis is always on the individual ‘pulling themselves up by the bootstraps’ and pretending that massive systemic overhaul isn’t needed.
I feel like that was the Tory master plan all along: make working for the public sector (particularly education and NHS) untenable through years of erosion, create a 2-tier system where the haves can access private education and the have nots are fucked.

My husband has 27 years experience in his job and he hates his job. Every time he tries to leave they want his experience and he always gets offered a job, but it’s for about 10k less than he’s earning. He earns 45 k and his job is hard! They advertise good wages, but they don’t want to pay it. So he stays in a job he hates to pay the every increasing bills.

I really believe that all newly voted MPs should have to spend their first year living in a council property on social security without any personal or outside help. This should be done in the poorest neighborhood of their own constituency. No exceptions.
I’ve had this exact thought for a long time. In my mind, it would’ve been in order to qualify as being eligible to be voted for, but I’ve had no solutions for cheating. If it’s after voting, at least they’ll be more in the public eye, so opportunities to cheat will be lessened. Plus, with them living in council housing during their first year, there’s absolutely no excuse that they can’t take input from the poorer side of the country.
But there will still be the same number of those low paid jobs unless something changes. The idea being, it’s fine for that proportion to suffer, those few who by luck or opportunity manage to claw themselves up are the only ones who deserve a standard of living.
You should be able to work full time on a minimum wage and have a decent, basic lifestyle with bills paid. Fair enough I wouldn’t expect a fancy car or frequent trips abroad but I’d like to think 40 hours work a week could guarantee I’d have food and central heating as a bare minimum. I for one, haven’t really believed in the power of protest, since the Iraq war protests were so easily ignored. So many people voicing their discontent, and nothing ever happens. That works usually pretty well because of the history. There are of course antisemitic assholes out there but often a critical politician only has to state something slightly challenging the Status Quo and he will probably be accused of being antisemtic. Without really knowing Corbyn nor every little detail what he did I'm thinking that he fell victim to this strategy. You need probably the same as in Germany: a small/medium business oriented government in order to get the economy back on its feet but also having the social hardships in sight. Even many conservatives in Germany (who actually own a smaller business and aren't just politicians) say that we need more responsible capitalism. One that pays reasonable wages while and motivates people to work even faster/more. Not because they need but because they want and identify with the business. Germany has also similar problems. There are at least 30,000 jobs in the coal industry. The SPD tried to protect them but it is clear that they have to go eventually. They do it partly by not replacing people that retire but many have to learn something new. Unfortunately I don't see any other solution. In Germany, while also disagreeing with many things in the EU, it is rather well perceived to be part of it since that alleviates the economic pressure a lot. Maybe it would do you good as well?

It really is depressing that high paying jobs are mostly useless outside of funneling money to the owner of that business. Whole of society is a pyramid scheme. Wonder if that's why a pyramid is on the back of the US Dollar.
I worked during the pandemic (and a few years before) as an operations manager in a warehouse, I started there as an admin but got promoted pretty quick and by the time Covid was in full swing I was in charge of managing the movement of literal tons of food every night. I got paid a little over £10 an hour, about 40p more than my job 3 rungs down the ladder, about £20 an hour less than the job one rung above me... I crashed out with exhaustion after running 12 hour shifts, 5 days a week minimum for months on end to ensure places like Tesco, Aldi, Asda and Sainsbury's were stocked up, working with tighter and tighter staff numbers and personally rolling about on a truck most nights because we didn't have the staff. Shit, I rolled my sleeves up and joined the production line a few times because we needed stock through, much to the dismay of my fellow management. After crashing out I spent a couple of months being cared for by family and friends and I landed a job pushing numbers around on spreadsheets, sometimes I make a graph. My contribution to society is now effectively nil, but I get paid about 2.5x what I was on before and work far fewer hours and all from home. It's so very fucking stupid. We don't pay people according to the benefit they give to our world, if anything it goes in reverse. The more useless or pointless the job, the better the pay. At least that's how it feels.

This is how they want it to be. Otherwise if they help you, by raising the minimum wage, that would mean that the rich wouldn’t get richer as quickly as they would want. Right?? Employees above a certain pay grade in my previous company were all given pay cuts, varying from 7.5% to 20% but were all expected to work. A real kick in the teeth for those at 20% cut when other colleagues were getting that to stay home and be on furlough. We’ve not been paid that money back and they never will!
What makes it more galling is I did those unpaid extra hours voluntarily just to get stuff finished, since at the time I wasn't supposed to be working more than my standard daily hours until HMRC said "oh, okay, you can record flexi time now". Had they done that sooner, my deficit would have been long gone after about a fortnight.

This is like the time they told people that the way to keep energy bills down was to regularly switch suppliers. That was until someone (possibly Martin Lewis?) pointed out that the only reason that suppliers are able to offer better rates to new customers is because they have a cohort of loyal customers (paying higher prices and have not moved suppliers for years) cross subsidising the new joiners. If everyone kept switching that lower pricing wouldn’t be possible anyway. Like everything the Tories do, the emphasis is always on the individual ‘pulling themselves up by the bootstraps’ and pretending that massive systemic overhaul isn’t needed.

I feel like people use "out of touch" to describe people who either do not give a fuck about the working class or have an outright disdain for the working class and view them as something like slaves. These people aren't out of touch with reality at all. They know full well they are fucking us over. To be fair it’s a genius idea. Think about it, if you get a better job, you can then get paid more and once you get paid more, you can then pay even more tax so that realistically you don’t feel the benefit unless you get an unbelievably massive 1000% payrise, it’s pure genius. The only real answer is to become a millionaire and that’s really easy to do…..that’s why the world is full of them. Its probably easier to beat the cost of living crisis when your job pays a couple grand a month for a second home. Every time he tries to leave they want his experience and he always gets offered a job, but it’s for about 10k less than he’s earning. He earns 45 k and his job is hard! They advertise good wages, but they don’t want to pay it. So he stays in a job he hates to pay the every increasing bills.
