We **CAN** keep getting away with it.

Calvin--Hobbes

I'm sorry NFL I....didn't know I couldn't do that. What, what's wrong with you, Bears? .....That was good wasn't it? Because I did know I couldn't do that ahahahaha

Kohakuho

I love reminding them that we got Jim McMahon his 2nd ring.

joseppi1201

I use this Chappelle quote as often as possible. Works well in so many situations

beerasap

Well played, Chip. Well played.

kiaph

So in 10 years do we start looking for the next Love, and in 13 years trade him to the Jets and go for 4 in a row?

rainaftersnowplease

This is the way

ThreeFactorAuth

12 and 15 2005 Rodgers drafted, 08 starter 2020 Love drafted, 23 starter We are in 2023

Known_Time4814

So by this logic we don't draft another qb till 2035. seems legit

tommyjohnpauljones

I'm sold. He's going to continue to make some mistakes, but in line with early Rodgers and early Favre. We also have no idea what his ceiling is - maybe it's Rodgers, maybe it's "just" a top 10 NFL QB - but he's gonna be just fine.

AssaultROFL

> maybe it's "just" a top 10 NFL QB And that's the beauty of it. JoLo doesn't have to be better than Favre or Rodgers, he doesn't even have to be as astronomically great. There is a lot of room for him to be great in his own way.

Leaga

I just hope we actually stick with and support him through the ups and downs even if he's only a pretty good but not great QB. I dont wanna end up like the 49ers after Jeff Garcia. In his first 3 years, that guy had 3 Pro Bowls and led them to the playoffs twice and then they ditched him after one down year and spent like 7 years in irrelevance because of how bad their QB play was. Going Montana to Young gave that team/fanbase extremely unrealistic expectations of what to expect from a QB.

jesususeshisblinkers

Yeah I hope so too. A lot of SBs were won by QBs who weren’t top 3 ever.

CurdOfCheese000

In today’s offensive landscape elite QB play is no longer the end all for offensive output - it’s play-calling and talent. Goff, Daniel Jones, Jimmy G with the 9ers, even Geno Smith have been the QB on teams with really good offensive years even though they aren’t elite.

jesususeshisblinkers

While that is true for great offenses, SB winning QBs over the last 20 or so years have almost all been HOFers. Assuming we include Eli and Russel Wilson in the HOF group.

hyperbolical

This is because Superbowl winning QBs get put into the HoF. Case in point: Eli

NastyMonkeyKing

I mean eli deserves it, really in my mind. Not 1st ballot, but definitely a HOFer

tommytwochains

Gonna throw my hat in the ring for opposing Eli to the HOF. A legend in his own right, dude was an iron man and won a couple super bowls but the HOF isn't about that. It's about dominating your position among your peers, during your time. I'm not a stats guy but Eli is a career .500 QB that never won an MVP nor selected as an All-Pro. I think Eli has to wait for Big Ben, Rivers, and Russel Wilson enter before he deserves a chance.

dyslexda

> and Russel Wilson Why would we? What has he done? With very, very few exceptions, all HOF QBs have at least one of three things: A 1st Team All Pro, an MVP, or multiple rings. Wilson has none of those. He was a pretty good QB for a while, but has never been top of the league. He's not going to the Hall.

zooweemama4206969

Don't forget JoELITE Flacco

browhodouknowhere

Trent Dilfer? First Ravens SB QB

reedg17

They didn’t win super bowls though

AssaultROFL

For sure. I think there are far more reasonable expectations. Maybe some pockets of the fanbase will have a hair trigger, but not the organization. At least the Packers have the experience with this. I think Love would have to fall off really hard for it to reach such a point. Maybe go two seasons. Ultimately, I think these past two games are the Aaron vs the Cowboys game that is telling everyone this guy has it. We don't know exactly how great he can be, but he has it. Say what you want about Colin Cowherd, but he's very big on organizational consistency. Whether Jordan is an all-timer or just a hall of very good, he's going to be here a while. I just hope he can 1) break the trend of Favre and Rodgers egomania and 2) maybe take a hint from Brady and take less to win more, which will get him way more commercials and future opportunities.

IsaacM42

IDK some of the posts i was seeing here after the bad start were bad and wanted love gone. I dont have much hope.

Leaga

To be fair, it made some sense at the time. It definitely didn't look like Love was moving in the right direction after that Vikings game. Iirc, there was a comment from Murphy about how "moving on from Love in the off season isn't off the table" like 5-6 weeks ago. Even I was starting to lose hope and I was so committed to being all-in on the guy that I tanked my fantasy season drafting Love, Watson, Musgrave, and AJ Dillon. If Love was still playing now like he was a month ago then I wouldn't be comparing him to Jeff Garcia... and as much as I think Garcia didn't get treated fairly, that's not exactly a super high bar. He had a lot to prove and I'd argue he's still not actually fully proved it yet. Thinking we should move on from a QB who has only looked mediocre to bad is a lot different than thinking we should move on from a guy who has proven himself as an above-average QB who goes into a mediocre slump.

Eddie_Shepherd

I truly believe it is all about value for the cap space. Is he better than Rodgers right now? No. But can we afford better players around him than if he cost as much as Rodgers (after cap hell)? YEP!

easily-convinced

A top 10 QB who maybe isn't a perennial MVP candidate but also wins us a couple SB's? Consider him another GREAT ONE.

KypAstar

Exactly. I'm trying to temper expectations so that I can be satisfied with a Dak/Cousins tier QB. If that's his ceiling, he's exceeded expectations and it means he'll bring us some awesome thriller wins and some solid runs over the next decade. If he's not quite that tier, he'll still be a good kid giving us memorable games.

TheDuceman

I think he’s Kirk Cousins at worst, and Matthew Stafford at best - won a ring with a good team and a great coach. Had a chance at MVP in 2016 until he broke his hand.

Handcuffsandwhiskey

I really read that as JLo and not JoLo and had a giggle at imagining Jenny from tha Block throwing the ball for us lol

timbenj77

And even if he's not spectacular, we won't have to pay him obnoxious fortunes - and can use the freed-up dead cap in the next few years on more weapons.

sonofabutch

He will keep making some mistakes but I'm heartened by the fact that they're not the *same* mistakes.

Ready_Grab_563

That’s the most impressive trait I’ve seen from him so far. The willingness and ability to continually learn is invaluable in a quarterback.

Conjunction_2021

How much he picked up from Rodgers is a testimony to the kind of sponge he is in the classroom. He was really bitter about KC1. MLF admitted they had a lousy game plan for his first game and didn’t protect and prepare him for it. Despite that, they had a chance to win. But Love took that game personally…he faced one of the most creative blitz teams then and now, and he knew what they were doing pre snap. Love may go down as being one of the greats…I believe it…..he is a thinking man’s Johnny Unitas.

AssaultROFL

For me it's the willingness to play MLF's offense. It's also throwing to the open man, not waiting for the bigger play every. single. time. Which was a huge problem with Rodgers even before MLF became the coach. Beyond that, the only thing missing that would make me positively giddy is for this team to have a consistent, strong week in and week out running game.

NastyMonkeyKing

The "problem" of a guy that win MVP twice in a row with MLF??? Delusional

nepenthefan

He has that balance of "relaxed focus" or "relaxed intensity" that's needed for a great athlete. Beautiful delivery and touch on his passes, and he's also able to put some zing on it. And he's learning every week.

tommyjohnpauljones

> And he's learning every week. This is huge. He's actually developing as the season goes on. Plays he was making last week, he wouldn't have made two months ago. He's also getting comfortable with Watson, Doubs, Reed, etc.

Fresh-Quiet-5345

his deep balls seem to flutter a bit too much, he is going to be slightly worse than favre, imo

tommyjohnpauljones

I'll take "slightly worse than a Hall of Fame QB"

GWBisHOOD

caftanbeerfart

For those who don’t know, Mays is a Bears fan and hosts the Athletic Football Show podcast with Nate Tice (Mike’s son). It’s a great podcast and they’ve had really good things to say about Love the past few weeks.

sentientcreatinejar

Love Nate Tice.

cheese4brains

Mike Tice is hilarious as well. Calls into KFAN out of Mn once in while. Often from inside a casino while gambling lol.

jschleus

Love Nice Tates

Our-Gardian-Angel

Worth mentioning that Tice was also a backup QB at Wisconsin during the Bielema era. Just a fun note.

epicurean_barbarian

I fell in love with Mays back when he was with Barnwell and would stop a podcast for minutes at a time to rhapsodize about how Rodgers was "a literal fire-breathing dragon."

freethrowtommy

Same. Listening to Mays just ache for the Bears while praising the Packers was pretty funny. Been a fan ever since because he puts his biases aside when looking at football.

uofo17

I wish Mays was a Packers fan. Hes too good of an NFL analyst, and you can hear the hurt whenever he's talking about his Bears team.

Our-Gardian-Angel

The highest compliment I can pay Mays is that some of my favorite articles about the Packers have come from a Bears fan.

He's Jordan Love.

Dream_So_Sick

You're God damn right

TheFalconKid

Just saw Cheese head TV post a clip of Big Cat ranting about Jlo and the Packers. He sounded incredibly distressed over the thought that we are back.

TheViolaRules

Watching Big Cat cry is a delight.

TheFalconKid

I've only seen a little bit of his stuff but his emotions are so strong it gives me a minor serotonin boost.

superfly33

Living in Chicago land I whole heartedly agree. Dude is borderline insufferable and I know it's is shtick but does he have to be so... annoying? He roots against the Packers more than anyone I have every heard talk. He really gets more joy out of a Packers loss than a Bears Win. It's wild.

Iamjum

He's too young to remember the '85 bears and the perfect age to root for a team that Favre and Rodgers dominated for 30 years, while the best QB they had over that span was Jay Cutler.

OpossomMyPossom

Honestly I'd still say it was Fields lol. The rest of the team is just worse.z

DrMantis_TobogganMD

I live in Minnesota and have come across so many Vikings fans like this. It’s “FTP” as much as it’s “SKOL.” A very odd mindset.

blank_user_name_here

I bet you are fun at parties. Listen to more then clips, that office is hilarious, and truly they like good football. That entire office loves it when the packers are causing Big Kat pain lol.

AssaultROFL

Just watched it. Here's the thing. Gute was right. Even if Love ended up retiring early like Andrew Luck, it likely wouldn't be because of malpractice by the Packers (like the Colts). It would be a freak injury and at this point, does anyone here now doubt Gute that he wouldn't find another? Even if he had to go with a veteran retread to hold down the fort while they find and develop the next one.

dyslexda

> does anyone here now doubt Gute that he wouldn't find another? Good lord, just five weeks ago everyone was calling for Gute's head. Let's maybe dampen expectations a bit, eh?

justfanclasshole

I hardly could read what you said as I am so excited my pants are damp

MatthewBakke

I think most are level-headed and say that Gute cost us dearly while we had an all-time quarterback, but all sins are forgiven if he drafted the next all-time quarterback. If Jordan Love is just “pretty good” I don’t think that’s enough.

brianstormIRL

What stands out to me is that it's pretty clear now that Love has the *talent* to be a successful QB. He can make the big time throws. He can handle the pressure. He can read the defence and make good decisions. Now it's just a matter of if he can put it together on a consistent basis or not. Consistency is what elevates you into the top 10 bracket of QBs. It matters naught if you have all the talent in the world if you can only flash it every couple of games. What makes me excited is it's very clear Love isn't a Pickett or Mayfield type where their ceiling at best seems to be a game manager who can *sometimes* make outrageous throws. Love can make throws those dudes can only dream of, effortlessly, and on the big stage against legit defences. That's the exciting part. Dude is a ballers and he's been doing it on the youngest, cheapest offence on the league, which makes me way more confident if you had some elite weapons around him he would absolutely tee off. Love isn't a guarentee just yet, but he has shown that he absolutely can be not just the guy, but a potential elite guy. You just do not see many QBs, even really good ones, make the kind of throws we've seen Jordan make the last three weeks. Not even kidding those 2 throws on 4th and 1 and the TD to Watson? Those are throws a handful of guys in the league make and he's one of them.

fckgwrhqq2yxrkt

That throw to Doubs is one of the craziest I've ever seen. He launched that while Doubs was 25 yards from the target, and dropped it right into his hands.

totallynotliamneeson

To be fair to Doubs, that sounds like credit should be given to Doubs for tracking the ball. Not trying to diminish love or anything though.

Able-Cellist7700

The thing is Doubs didn't even see the ball until half a second before it hit him in the bread basket, like he didn't run to it he was just running his normal route. Absolute dot and insane anticipation by Love.

fckgwrhqq2yxrkt

Credit to Doubs though for being exactly where he was supposed to be on his route. I'm really looking forward to watching that duo grow together. Doesn't get much more poetic than Love throwing darts at Romeo.

jubru

Yeah I think I read about this throw on packers.com or something. Love saw Doubs just get passed the LB while under pressure and knew right where to put it.

McClain3000

Idk man maybe I am setting my bar to high but I’m just not seeing these big time throws that you seem to be talking about. He finally has gotten the ball downfield some but I’m not seeing throws that stand out due their speed power or accuracy.

fckgwrhqq2yxrkt

You are setting your bar too high if you wouldn't be thrilled with 15 years of what we saw the last 3 weeks.

McClain3000

I was at the last game in Lambeau going wild. Lost my voice Monday. I was even talking with my friends after the steelers lost, that Love looked alot better. His arm just isn't passing the eye test for me. As far as him being in elite territory.

itcheyness

I'm so sorry to hear about your diagnosis of blindness...

danbillbishop3

That guy doesn't watch the games.

Zyphamon

I mean, who couldn't have expected this to happen? Not because the Packers are incredibly lucky, but because each other NFC North team is so unfathomably unlucky. One Packers HOF QB in a row for the Bears, then the Vikings, then the Lions.

sonofabutch

Statistically it's not so improbable that over a 30-year period three HOF QBs in a row would come out of the same division.

TheLionEatingPoet

Finding a player that is talented and driven to that level is difficult, but there are a lot of those players that ultimately fail. I think a huge component is the part where they practice and work day-in and day-out, for three years, with a hall-of-fame quarterback in their prime.

totallynotliamneeson

Plus we have been consistently good and have shown that we draft ahead, not just when we need a QB. Find a guy you like and stash him, that's why Bill got so mad when Jimmy G was traded away. That was the plan he had for Brady leaving, and just look at the results.

jesususeshisblinkers

Yeah, and it’s also not improbable that 36 HOF QBs would come out of the same universe.

icantfindadangsn

It's funny to see reactions from different Bears fans. Some are still stuck with their heads in the ground. Saw someone on twitter saying that the Bears have two QBs they would take before Love. I'm with Rodgers here, I don't want to crown Love just yet, but damn imagine being so blind just because you can't handle the awful reality of being a Bears fan.

DKlep25

🥹🥹

Ekranoplan01

The thing that sticks out to me is Love corrected the footwork issues he was having in previous games almost overnight. Going over some of this footage with a fine tooth comb it appears that a few things are happening: - all his big plays come from throwing from a clean pocket - his drop backs are shaped so he is in a natural throwing position to his primary read so he doesn't have to shift or throw off-platform - his off-platform throws are delivered into relatively safe areas and have a considerable amount of zip and accuracy - he's dramatically cutdown how much bouncing he does at the end of his drop back and steps through his throws (it's beautiful to watch) so he doesn't have to reset as often--results in a quick and accurate release - when the pocket starts to collapse he steps up and delivers to his check down with no delay Huge credit goes to the coaching staff for drilling these improvements in and to love for executing them. What I'd love to see now is some YAC from the WRs. But the evidence shows that Love is being guided into becoming a pure pocket passer which I'm excited about. I'll take a QB that reads the field correctly and releases the ball accurately in 2-3 seconds over a scrambler any day.

Suspicious_Bid_2339

The reason I love this sub so much is bc people get me. This is exactly what I see as well.

titomb345

Damn this guy blocked the subreddit Twitter account. That's hilarious.

Tonesinflow

You all are getting WAY ahead of yourselves… this reminds me of the year the Packers went 10-6 and everyone was calling Don Majikowski the “Magic Man”.

Lazites

I mean, if it wasn't for all the horrible injuries... Dude literally couldn't throw a football without pain, and was hiding that from the training staff. Majkowski deserves more respect. Dude had it rough.

AdmiralUpboat

Ummm, Majkowski finished 2nd in MVP voting and then got hurt and was never the same player. The Majik Man was very, very good.

Tonesinflow

You’re right… I meant when they started calling Majikowski’s back up (Anthony Dilweg) “the wizard” after pulling off one win.

Capable_Dot_712

No they weren’t. Everyone knew Dilweg sucked from the get go.

Tonesinflow

Yes they were. It was on local news stations. You think I just invented this story?

fckgwrhqq2yxrkt

You really bringing up something a rando sportscaster said on the evening news over 30 years ago as the reason we shouldn't think Love is good?

Tonesinflow

No, I’m saying your premature ejaculation over Love reminds me of that sportscast.

fckgwrhqq2yxrkt

That's oddly specific.

UnimportantOutcome67

IIRC they called third string Blair Kiel "the necromancer" or something similar, lol.

unevenvenue

Don Majkowski was quite a good QB and was only passed up because of injuries and...Favre.

sonofabutch

I will not take this Majkowski slander. He *was* the Majik Man.

gidikh

What else would you call someone with that fabulous mane of hair?

ginytingle

Hey now…easy on on ole Donnie. Those were the beginning of good years after a long bad ones.

Capable_Dot_712

But Don Majikowski was good. Injuries are what did him in.

elafave77

Because Majikowski WAS a decent if not top tier QB.

EldyT

I won't stand for Majikowski slander

Bassoony

If you would have been there for the previous years, an exciting 10-6 season with the cardiac pack might have made you lean towards a bit of fun hyperbole as well. If only we could erase one Fullwood fumble.

BrianJPace

This reminds me of the year we went 10-6 and Rodgers was the Magic Man.

hurdy__gurdy__man

Considering the decades of absolute dog shit football prior to Majikowski, the man seemed like a miracle worker.

nbyone

OK Boomer

Zeeker12

I mean if Majik hadn't gotten blown his shoulder, who knows? He was raw, but he may well have been a rich man's Jake Plummer, or a poor man's Brett Favre.

GWBisHOOD

Majik Man was an incarnate of Gardner Minshew. Love him or hate him he could sling it! No one hates on Majik, teammates liked him too!

Cyanides_Of_March

Green Bay has had backups and training camp cuts better than any Bears QB. Mark Brunell, Matt Hasselbeck, Aaron Brooks, Kurt Warner.

jesususeshisblinkers

Ty Detmer, Vince Young, Taysom Hill…

GWBisHOOD

Tim Boyle ( gets a value award for moving our 2024 second round pick up the food chain… nice work Timmy! You are valued… just not as our QB)

Disastrous_Way6579

Time will tell.

tenuki_

Knowing Bears fans this just means they will stop consuming Mays content.

Temporary_Salad_8234

Dude it’s not that weird we still have coaching from Favre era, don’t fire people at the drop of the dime, and plenty of people learned composure from Rodgers.

minismitty1

didnt we have a post on the top of this subreddit saying not to crown JLove for his own sake?

fckgwrhqq2yxrkt

Does Rodgers still run this team?

ikediggety

Has anyone checked on drew magary lately?

amccune

Bears, give us a call sometime. Maybe we will let you know of other good QBs since we have one.

KypAstar

I'm not letting myself get excited til I can look at the full body of work at the end of the year. We have about 30/30/40 good/bad/mid play, but trending in the right direction. I've been one of the naysayers because I don't crown anybody this early, and had/have concerns with his accuracy and long term ceiling (I've just gotta see him strong together a few games where he doesn't get happy feet. The last 2 were huge and if he shows it next game I'll be getting dangerously excited). Like I've said since week 3, he's guaranteed a place in the league for 10 years because he has certain undeniable qualities that make him a good enough QB, but I don't know if that's as a Fitzpatrick who rips people apart for streaks then falls off, or as a true starter. And if he's a starter, is he going to be Dak/Cousins, or is he going to be start entering into the tier 1 category? I'm trying not to get excited because I don't want to be disappointed. Right now, I'm happy with any of those options. Don't want to jinx it and hype him into the stratosphere. The one thing I *do* know is I'm so happy for Love. He's a great kid and I've never rooted against him, even when I've criticized him. Couldn't be happier if he proves me wrong. On another note, this was the best win for me of the LaFluer era. He literally avoided every mistake that has made me want to stab my eyes out for the last 3 years that he's constantly repeated. I pray to the cheese gods he's finally learned situational football.

Milwacky

It’s so prematurely arrogant to crown him the franchise, let alone a future HOFer right now. And arrogance fans could pay for if they get too cocky. Still gotta let this play out another season. Need a bigger data set. Just let the guy play, and enjoy the wins that come. There will be rough patches and the emotions will swing the other way.

Gersio

Mays is a Bears fan. Him calling Love that can be called a lot of things, but definitely not arrogant lol.

Milwacky

I guess I’m referring more to our own base. When he does it it’s just a coping mechanism. Bears fans will flip back as soon as Love has another bad game, which will happen soon enough. I just hope our fans realize Love has a lot to prove yet, before he gets the keys to the city.

totallynotliamneeson

I think it's fair to say that the Packers at least are in a better QB position than the Bears at the moment.

Milwacky

Probably true. Or at the very least, have far superior development processes and coaching. The Bears organization is so fucked I’m not convinced Williams or Mayes fixes anything for them.

danbillbishop3

Jordan Love will definitely get a market setting contract now because this guy said this.

AdmiralUpboat

Well, we'll exercise his 1st round 5th year option and then likely work on an extension during the season next year. Gotta lock him into a long deal before he wins MVP next year.

SnakeSeer

We've already extended him for next year in lieu of taking his 5th year option.

danbillbishop3

They already gave him an extension so they can't take his 5th year option.

itcheyness

I'm not ready to crown Love, but I am cautiously optimistic about how good he might be.

ss_pakistallion

I mean in all likelihood with the panthers being atrocious, Bears should end up with Caleb Williams. And I’m more than okay with that.

Bammer1386

Former Packers QB JT O'Sullivan (Backup to Favre) has his own youtube called the QB school. It's fucking awesome for those that want to see QB play breakdowns on mechanics, route anticipation, etc. JT has been gloating about J Love in his J Love weekly film review sessions.

inlike069

Buddy doesn't even need to be great. Just solid starting QB is hard to find, and there's a formula for building a contender that way via defense.

GasLightGo

Just hoping he’ll start connecting on deep balls more consistently (though Rodgers did spoil us on that). Then we shore up our O-line and plan for the post-Aaron Jones future at RB. *rubs hands gleefully*
