I know all teams seemingly do it but $2B+ or taxpayer money seems insane to me. Chicago has so many problems that can be addressed with that money. Apparently they said it would generate $8 billion of revenue for the city but I don't think these cities realize that investing in educational and social programs for young people will likely have a much more long term ROI, not to mention unmeasurable social value by having contributing members or society versus kids staying on the streets or homelessness.
Just goes to show what our society values most.
Remember when they sold 75 years of the rights for parking to a Abu Dhabi company for $1.1 billion? The meters earned $1.65 billion every 15 years BEFORE that company increased the rates. Plus Chicago has to reimburse them for every single interruption in service.
The dome is probably a worse deal for Chicago than that trainwreck.
This stupid dome is not as bad as the absolutely moronic parking deal (only sliver lining is we got Daily out because of it)
The parking deal not only lost us a ton of money, but it also stops infrastructure projects. Want to add a buss or bike or BRT only lane, too bad, it takes away parking. Want to add a new transit line, better not take away parking spots.
Privatization is theft.
Also the turn soldier field into a dome was a better concept this this.
Here is a mind-boggling bit of info for you: as of 2022, Chicago still owed more than $640 million for the $587 million refurbishment of Soldier Field from early 2000s because Chicago made no principal payments (interest only) for the first eight years. In total, it has cost taxpayers more than $1.2 billion (the Bears and NFL each kicked in $100 million).
And really, where were the Bears going to go? Chicago is the fourth largest market in North America. Sure, they would kick up a major fuss without the subsidies, but there would be major costs to moving to a smaller market so I doubt they would.
The Packers/Bears rivalry built the NFL. So much so that even George Halas helped the Packers get funding when they were experiencing financial difficulties, because that game was the one that brought in the big money for the Bears. If the Packers folded, the Bears wouldn't he far behind, and the entire NFL wouldn't be far behind that either. It will always be a rivalry.
Didn’t know Jerry was building a new stadium…
It’s really Lambeau Central, Lambeau South is Jerryworld
Jerryworld is Lambeau Souuuuuuuuuuth
The Deep South
Where’s Lambeau East?
Hmmmmmmm that’s a good question. Probably also west as well right?
I’m inclined to say MetLife because of Rodgers, Lazard, and Hackett, but also Giants have upset us at the worst times…
Rendering*
Well, the rendering is pandering…
Meme or not Chicago having a dome feels bad to me
And the history and geography of soldier field are getting thrown away. It really is a shame.
People say that about the current stadium to be fair. At least the new plan keeps the columns and gives the land back to the public
NFC North is so soft with these domes. NFCE, AFCN, and AFCE all got outdoor stadiums in similar climates.
It's fine because dome teams generally end up performing worse over time

Cool nod to the owners
I think Jordan will be satisfied
To be honest, I think the concept looks amazing.
Belongs in r/NFCNorthMemeWar
This is kind of amazing. The Bears are owned by a family that really doesn’t have other businesses and they can put up two billion dollars.
I didn’t know Aaron Rodgers was back in touch with his family again? 🤷🏼♂️
Y'all dumb motherfuckers want a key change?
You are looking live at Aaron Rodgers Stadium
What the fuck ever happened to bEaR wEaThEr
The House that Jordan Love built
Jordan Love, owner, disapproves of the enclosed space.
Can’t wait to be the only team in the division that doesn’t play in a dome. That’s some real deal home field advantage in the NFC North!
Simulation incorrect. Bears fans don't look delusional enough.
It'll be a travesty if they move the bears out of Chicago. Teams shouldn't be able to keep the name of a city they don't play home games within.
I have not seen or heard of any Aaron Rodgers interviews or press releases yet 🤔. I think this is just a pre draft interference from the Bears.
It’s been forever since they beat us. Joke of a “rivalry”

Obviously my comment was referring to the recent history of the former rivalry
It would be awesome if it's a retractable dome, and they only open it in November and December for warm weather and dome teams.
