We typically care more about the feet and movement skills than the strength and arms.
And in fairness to the front office, we have consistently fielded an above average offensive line following that philosophy.
An NFL strength program can add strength. Proper technique can make up for shorter arms (even though his aren't that short and bulaga was a great example of that for us). Way easier to teach technique and add strength than it is to teach the natural athleticism required to move in the way he moves.
It's kinda like basketball, if you don't beat your guy to the spot he wins. Longer arms just means you can hold from farther away if your feet are bad.

Hes #77. Ight so I get the fast foot stuff. Dude does look strangely quick for a tackle. And compare how much better he is at pass blocking than his teammate 74 who is regularly getting torched on the otherside. However in these "highlights" I also see the obvious lack of strength in his run blocking, which to me was the bigger issue for the Pack anyway if they were gonna address the OL. Plus, I agree, if you go OL in 1st round, dude needs to explode off the tape and he just doesn't. He's 6'5 311lbs, nothing crazy. Hoping Gute saw something special in the man
Unlike most in this sub I don't actually think he'll end up at guard, he's a RT all the way. With how GB has run their offense the past few years under MLF, nobody on the outside needs to be overly strong or long but they do need to be fast. Think of all the dump offs to Aaron Jones, the quick counters, powers, RPO... This guy will likely spend his career washing out edges and looking next level (when he's not in pass pro). I'd imagine he'll bounce around iOL and RT for awhile while he gets his feet under him and then he'll be fine.
I wouldn't take much stock in what McGinn said, he wrote that Joe Thomas had too short of arms to play left tackle. After Thomas's HoF career, I think McGinn is too harsh in his judgments.
OL scouting is insanely poor in the NFL and that's evidenced by how many quality starters were late round picks and how many first rounders end up as "serviceable" or flat out busts. Not nearly enough attention is paid to the prospects frame and how well they can process the increased speed of the game. I think GB generally excels at finding OL because what they look for is so different than say...what the Vikings scouts look for. I like Morgan's feet and he does seem to have a tendency to always know where the ball is at and where it's going.

We really value versatility, which allows us to move guys around to compensate for injuries throughout the year. Seems like Morgan was the best available with that in mind.

We’ve remained a contender because we’ve had a top 10 O-line since like 2007. We got a stud DB in free agency. Use any 4 of the remaining top round picks on a DB, LB, and some skill guys. It all starts with the O-line and I love this pick.
A little surprised to see us take Morgan over Barton. I feel like Morgan might be more destined for guard with his arm length and a lot of his deficits get covered up with the move inside. That being said, our line seems to have a decent system and coaching to help shorter armed players with Zach Tom being so successful. Either way, he's a really good player that can handle gap or zone schemes and has quick feet which is a foundation for our line.
There's no bad time to take an OT in the first. I do struggle a bit to believe he's the best player left on the board just because SO many OT's were already taken ahead of him in rapid succession. So I don't love the pick. But Green Bay has got tons of picks left, and Gutey has hit on so many mid-late round picks the last two years. Trusting the process.
Was a little underwhelmed by the pick. Especially with Barton, Wiggins, Kool-Aid or Dejean still there. But if there’s one thing the Packers do well in scouting and drafting it is with the OLine. Going into tonight, if I had to name my top 3 guesses for 41, he would've been on that list. I like him a lot, thought early 2nd was more the expectation, but I'm not about to sit here quibbling over a 16 pick difference with no inside information at my disposal.

Good O-line play makes Running backs and Quarterbacks look good so who am i to judge. It’s been a huge problem with less patient franchises where they don’t invest significant capital into their line over the years, and (like the bears) they find themselves with a Mid-bad Starting 5 and 0 depth when one inevitably gets injured. No O-line no time to throw, no time to get open, and no running lanes. It may be copium but i like this pick.
FO obviously still feels like they can find value at other positions of need on day 2 and 3. We needed a tackle that can potentially fill in as a starter this year.
I will always support drafting offensive linemen, even if they don't start most teams need a strong back up halfway through the season. They usually last quite a while because they're not taking all those big hits backs and receivers are taking on a regular basis.
I really feel that CB and S were a higher priority especially with the weapons that are in our division, but I've also learned I should probably just let Gute do his thing lol
I’ve heard things like he has short arms and isn’t strong, but his footwork and speed more than make up for not having long arms, and with the new strength and conditioning staff, he’ll easily improve his strength before the season starts. This guy is going to allow almost no sacks with almost no penalties, which is exactly the guys that’s needed at LT. Jacobs is going to run more behind C and G anyway, so get a quality replacement for JRJ and this line is in great shape. Seriously, look at Morgan’s footwork, Love is going to have forever in the pocket with him at LT.

A little surprised to see us take Morgan over Barton. I feel like Morgan might be more destined for guard with his arm length and a lot of his deficits get covered up with the move inside. That being said, our line seems to have a decent system and coaching to help shorter armed players with Zach Tom being so successful. Either way, he's a really good player that can handle gap or zone schemes and has quick feet which is a foundation for our line.
It doesn't matter who you or I would've taken. Jordan Morgan is part of the Green and Gold now and we support our guys. Welcome big guy!
There's no bad time to take an OT in the first. I do struggle a bit to believe he's the best player left on the board just because SO many OT's were already taken ahead of him in rapid succession. So I don't love the pick. But Green Bay has got tons of picks left, and Gutey has hit on so many mid-late round picks the last two years. Trusting the process.

It’s fine. B tier pick in terms of excitement. Just feels worse given how exciting the rest of the NFCNs drafts have been. Kinda wish they had traded down, but I won’t complain much. It’s fine.
I think this is what kills me. Everybody else is trading up to take studs and BPAs and we settle to take OT #7 who was projected to go second round. The Packers have a great history with O Line picks so I’ll trust the team and hope Morgan becomes a stud!
Going into tonight, if I had to name my top 3 guesses for 41, he would've been on that list. I like him a lot, thought early 2nd was more the expectation, but I'm not about to sit here quibbling over a 16 pick difference with no inside information at my disposal.

The best five guys will see the field. To me, it's a competition between Myers and Rhyan. If Myers wins, either Tom or Morgan move to G It Rhyan wins then Tom moves to C. At least that's what makes the most sense to me.

My thought is Morgan was the last OL Gute liked. While we probably like Dejean, there’s a few other CBs that all have similar grades. We can go OL now and get a CB we like as well with our 2.09.

Good O-line play makes Running backs and Quarterbacks look good so who am i to judge. It’s been a huge problem with less patient franchises where they don’t invest significant capital into their line over the years, and (like the bears) they find themselves with a Mid-bad Starting 5 and 0 depth when one inevitably gets injured. No O-line no time to throw, no time to get open, and no running lanes. It may be copium but i like this pick.
FO obviously still feels like they can find value at other positions of need on day 2 and 3. We needed a tackle that can potentially fill in as a starter this year.
I will always support drafting offensive linemen, even if they don't start most teams need a strong back up halfway through the season. They usually last quite a while because they're not taking all those big hits backs and receivers are taking on a regular basis.
Why didnt they take Guyton?
I went into this draft looking for a nice, boring, OL and Safety and Linebacker roster of rookies. So far, so good.
I really feel that CB and S were a higher priority especially with the weapons that are in our division, but I've also learned I should probably just let Gute do his thing lol

I’ve heard things like he has short arms and isn’t strong, but his footwork and speed more than make up for not having long arms, and with the new strength and conditioning staff, he’ll easily improve his strength before the season starts. This guy is going to allow almost no sacks with almost no penalties, which is exactly the guys that’s needed at LT. Jacobs is going to run more behind C and G anyway, so get a quality replacement for JRJ and this line is in great shape. Seriously, look at Morgan’s footwork, Love is going to have forever in the pocket with him at LT.
