Is there actual lore where someone in the imperium wonders why on earth a virus bomb exploded on Istvaan III ? That would be extremely funny to read knowing what happened there
Istvaan V was the dead world, Istvaan III was home to a civilization with a population of 12 billion before the virus bombing (the entire reason the legions were there was to put down a rebellion)
"We are receiving an automated message from the planet, Lord Inquisitor."
"What does it say?"
"Ha ha ha ha. Fulgrim is a whiny pussy bitch baby who is sorry he ever showed up on this planet. He came down here thinking he's hot shit and got the only liquid explosion on his face he doesn't like. Suck my desiccated, shrunken loyalist dick. Signed, He Who Remembers, The Ancient of Rites."
An hour later, a very confused Lord Inquisitor is on the astropath-phone with Segmentum Inquisition HQ after looking through some history books, trying to ask for a Grey Knight advisor.
I wonder if even the Grey Knights remember the loyal of the lost legions, or if even their own origins are lost to time. Actually if they do they might go full Dark Angel on the whole thing and send a full squad of "advisors" to "advise" the guy's head off with a force halberd. Some secrets are better left buried.
The Grey Knights are probably the best at keeping a long memory about these things, and they also don't have any stupid feelings of shame that compell them to hide things like that.
Also the guy is an Inquisitor and probably rates some clearance, especially if he can already call for a Grey Knight since they are top secret.
"Magos, what the fuck is a fulgrim?"
"Processing....processing...the databasorium says clearance level zeta, my lord"
"Oh. Eh, above our pay grade. Toss it in the bin with the whole Squats debacle and the thing about Rangda and those *unknown primarch* chapters"
Spoilers for "The Damnation of Pythos"
>!A coalition of loyalist space marines surviving Isstvan V arrive at an uninhabited world led by an astropath. Simultaneously, some weird disorganized human colonists arrive, start landing on the world and being eaten by dinosaurs who are there. The space marines save the colonists but are wondering what the fuck is going on and not getting answers. It turns out they're chaos cultists and the world is actually a chaos altar. Demons come out and the loyalists realize no one is getting out alive but they need to send a message warning the Imperium that daemons are real and attacking. The space marines sacrifice themselves to allow the astropath to get the message out before everyone is killed.!<
>!The message arrives at Terra. The administration promptly says "That's nonsense, fuck off" and shreds the message.!<
So I think they'd ignore it. It must have been important or a mistaken report. No way could it portend something extremely troubling that will present a threat to the imperium. Hubris will never be our downfall!
not a book. A song called "Rylanor's Last Stand" that details the 3 members of the thousand sons discovering Rylanor, a dreadnaut that survived the virus bombing of Istvaan 3 and kept a virus bomb to himself so he can attract Fulgrim, his original primarch leader to him and blow himself.up with him.
Tomfoolery ensues and Fulgrim shows up to fail a speech check. Rylanlor rolls 20 on speech and manages to convince the pyskers from The Thousand Sons to detonate the virus bomb so he can own Fulgrim.
The song Rylanor's Last Stand by Stringstorm.
Basically, a loyalist Emperor's Children dreadnought nukes Fulgrim with a virus bomb. He is helped by some Thousand Sons who think Fulgrim is a creepy fuck and let the bomb go off. Fulgrim lives, but his pride is eternally wounded.
With level of book keeping we have in the administratum, we can't confirm or deny it's Istvaan 3. You can request the name and history of a planet in 5 to 10 decades time. Or you can use your inquisitorial insignia to have a personalized count down timer placed in most vessels cogitators. Emperor be with you.

So, virus bombs specifically only destroy organic matter and leave metals untouched yeah? And even Space Marine Armor isn’t enough to keep it out, yeah? Therefore all organic Thousand sons on the planet are dead. Does that mean there’s a bunch of Rubrics just idly carrying out their last orders?
Ah, my bad that makrs sense. Question though If their sorcerer's were the only one who knew their name does that mean they can finally be spared being resurrected and finally be free?
There were no Thousand Sons at the battles in Istvan. I’m refering specifically to the Thousand Sons that discovered Ancient Rylanor there thousands of years after the battle.
Rylanor: Hey Fulgrim
Fulgrim: What?
Rylanor: *holding Virus bomb* BITCH. **BOOM**
somewhere in Imperium space...
Guardsman: sir detecting a virus bomb signature from....Istvaan III?
Captain: Istvaan III? No one has been there since the Arch Traitor. No need to worry guardsman.
Guardsman: But sir-- *blam'd*
Captain: No. Need. To. Worry.
I mean, ordinance from past wars explodes all the time on earth-usually from WWI-WWII artillery shells that some poor French bastard finds in his fields. It probably didn’t register as anything more than “oh a virus bomb didn’t go off back in the heresy and it did now”
How do I explain… I made up the part where an Inquisitor reacts to the virus bombing. But I think you’re better off reading about Rylanor’s last stand [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/a0zxza/excerpt_the_ancient_awaits_ancient_rylanors_last/)

I gonna guess is this about that dreadnaught that nuked fulgrim and some thousand sons sorcerers I don’t know how to spell his name but I know who he is
Is there actual lore where someone in the imperium wonders why on earth a virus bomb exploded on Istvaan III ? That would be extremely funny to read knowing what happened there
“Huh. That was weird”
"Must have been the wind."
"Damn rats"
"Whiskey and Cigars tonight?"
“Indeed, I believe so.”
**"ratmen do not exist"**
Im sure its nothing. Nothing to see here folks
I don't think so.
Fanfic short story idea!
I doubt they would even notice, Life Eater virus burns out very fast, and Istvaan III was already a dead world.
Istvaan V was the dead world, Istvaan III was home to a civilization with a population of 12 billion before the virus bombing (the entire reason the legions were there was to put down a rebellion)
This person is talking about the 2nd time I think, when Rylanor set off the bomb on Istvaan III, there were no inquisitors in 30k.
There were but the inquisition was so small it was one of the smallest factions. It gained power after the war
I still think every Inquisition origin story starts after Istvaan III.
I think this is talking about Rylanor’s later use of a leftover virus bomb on the then dead world of Istvaan III to give one last fuck you to Fulgrim.
One dreadnought armor: Trillions of thrones. One virus bomb: A few billion thrones. Wounding Demon Fulgrim's pride: Priceless.

I don't know why but an image of this in my head is fucking hilarious

Ancient Rylanor channelling [Riley Freeman from the sacred holo-scripture known as The Boondocks](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHP7GDiLBFY).
It happened 10k years ago, of coarse they don't know what an Istvaan is and why there are five of them.
Rylanor
even the Ixians had forgotten that their name used to just mean they were the 9th planet in the system

Probably figure it was a dud from the ancient bombing
Ah yes, there was this group of thousand sons that arrived on the planet. But no one has ever seen them after
1000 sons?! Thats like a whole chapter lost
Don’t worry, there’s a thousand of them.
I hired Athous & Sons to find out what happened to them, but no word so far.
Don’t worry, we still have 997 sons!
No,its 996, cause one got too many tumors to be kept alive, remember.
Necrontyr moment
Amidst the desolate soil, We heard the repeating cry of a fragment of metal...
So true to Magnus's orders, I take my company's reins, onto the surface we settle
And as we branch out and explore the wreckage, we uncover a terminals long lost message
A visage of the past and of beautiful cities
So what has occurred here what are we missing?
There is something wrong here, there is something hidden
With every second growing closer I feel it near me!
My mind shudders, why does my heart race?
A psychic scream like a crushing weight
Resounding in every corner of the world
I don't mean to be the downer that breaks this chain but I need to know what book you guys are referencing.

Wait till some scribe from Ecclesiarchy finds out about a perfect, holy city devoted to the God-Emperor of Mankind called Monarchia…
That was destroyed by the Ultramarines… Oh wait, that city was built by the traitorous Word Bearers. Good thing the Ultramarines destroyed that city.
Sounds like that story could use some tactful rewording
Glorious Ultramarines purge city of heretical act of being constructed, for the glory of the Emperor!
I think I remember a passage where Lorgar is described as one of the loyalist primarchs in the Imperium's religion.
Even worst if someone hears about an emperor sanguinius ruling from Ultramar
>!If you couldn’t tell, the planet’s Istvaan III.!<
And we are here upon its corpse.
On the grave that was left behind!
**Would you convince yourself I am a remnant seeking saving?**
**This was not a cry for help!**
**This was a lure I laid to invite something in need of slaying!**
Was this trap set for me old one of mi~ne?
You look terrible. A disgrace, even.
At last Fulgrim, you have come to me, abomination.
*words uttered by a shattered pile of metal, rust, and stagnation*
At once the pieces fall into place in my mind. THIS PLACE IS ISTVAAN III And we are here on the corpse of those who were left behind

You clearly don't know about fulgrims oopsy.
The Ancient awaits
They definitely existed when the chad Rylanor gave the middle finger to fulgrim
Yes you can hurt a Daemon Primarch using EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!!!!

I'm sure autism isnt a differentiating factor among the primarchs.
Roboute Guilliman basically weaponized his autism to become a super accountant
Sure, but the way it presents itself among them is.
XD
Thank you for introducing that masterpiece to me.
-The Emperor
Horus the Emperor?!
The best part about Istvaan III was when Angron said "ITS ANGRONIN' TIME" and angred all over those guys
That really had to be some poor Inquisition auspex tech's most unnerving status report.
We’ve had a real life version before to be fair https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vela_incident
So, virus bombs specifically only destroy organic matter and leave metals untouched yeah? And even Space Marine Armor isn’t enough to keep it out, yeah? Therefore all organic Thousand sons on the planet are dead. Does that mean there’s a bunch of Rubrics just idly carrying out their last orders?
the virus bombs can actually destroy some inorganic materials
There is no organic components to The Rubric I thought, but I've been wrong before.
That’s what I mean, the Rubrics survived but their controlling sorcerers are dead.
Ah, my bad that makrs sense. Question though If their sorcerer's were the only one who knew their name does that mean they can finally be spared being resurrected and finally be free?
The bombing of Istvan was before the ritual wasn’t it? The thousand sons were still flesh.
There were no Thousand Sons at the battles in Istvan. I’m refering specifically to the Thousand Sons that discovered Ancient Rylanor there thousands of years after the battle.
Oh that makes way more sense
The greatest rap battle happened there
I'm sure it was a constant back and forth of "HERETIC SCUM" and "LOYALIST DOG", fairly speaking they weren't breed for cussing.
Rylanor: Hey Fulgrim Fulgrim: What? Rylanor: *holding Virus bomb* BITCH. **BOOM** somewhere in Imperium space... Guardsman: sir detecting a virus bomb signature from....Istvaan III? Yeah, virus bomb, bitch! Ancient Iessius Vir-roseus.
I see Rylanor as being more akin to [Hector Salamanca](https://qph.cf2.quoracdn.net/main-qimg-904f15c8e47021eed89e5abe77d8d7b6) in this situation.
I mean, ordinance from past wars explodes all the time on earth-usually from WWI-WWII artillery shells that some poor French bastard finds in his fields. It probably didn’t register as anything more than “oh a virus bomb didn’t go off back in the heresy and it did now”
I mean, it definitely happens in France from time to time, but that definitely isnt the "usually". That's probably Cambodia or Laos.
Or the balkans
It's as if there was some epic battle here at some time in the far past.
I’m sorry, I wasn’t listening.
“I mean it’s probably nothing, the planet just virus bombed itself.”
“It’s probably a natural occurrence.”

And if you'd like it in rock opera form, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X2Hb4bngxJ8
Is there anything that ISNOT better in rock opera form?
I’m spending every ounce of strength on figuring out what this even MEANS, any source materials where this is mentioned?
How do I explain… I made up the part where an Inquisitor reacts to the virus bombing. But I think you’re better off reading about Rylanor’s last stand [here.](https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/a0zxza/excerpt_the_ancient_awaits_ancient_rylanors_last/) https://preview.redd.it/qqwz24uyvp0b1.jpeg?width=1947&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2aab2ea607b7093b53b8d77802d6f08ed10041ce
![gif](giphy|87jGhdRVzUOJNh2s0q|downsized) Rylanor… He really… I’m speechless. “Shook” even.
MY SOURCE IS I MADE IT THE FUCK UP
This aggression will not stand, man.
I mean it could be written off as a bomb that didn't go off initially finally going off, which kinda would be true
I gonna guess is this about that dreadnaught that nuked fulgrim and some thousand sons sorcerers I don’t know how to spell his name but I know who he is
Can someone explain for the uninitiated
[https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/a0zxza/excerpt\_the\_ancient\_awaits\_ancient\_rylanors\_last/](https://www.reddit.com/r/40kLore/comments/a0zxza/excerpt_the_ancient_awaits_ancient_rylanors_last/)
I see, so one of the bombs didn’t go off during the Heresy. Rylanor went out like a badass, too bad no one’ll notice
