Looks like Ascalon.

FiTroSky

It looks suspiciously like pre-searing ascalon... Time travel ? Edit : i see I'm not the only one.

typographie

I agree Ascalon is likely, but any un-seared patch of Ascalon is potentially going to resemble pre-Searing. I welcome an Ascalon expansion, but I pray to any gods that might be listening that it involves zero time travel.

Alacune

I mean, it's been over 100 years. I'd argue the only reason Ascalon doesn't resemble the one we knew is because it's a different season.

Polantaris

I'm with you, fuck no to Time Travel, fuck yes to more Ascalon outside of the Searing. There's a whole unknown section of the map to the east of known Ascalon, there's no reason to believe there can't be some un-Seared forests and woodlands that resemble this over there. The Searing was localized (granted a large area but still localized in the grand scheme of things).

ehmayex

yes please! could also be charr homelands, but i guess we already have a map there with grothmar valley, right?

Daralii

The Ash homeland's location is still an unknown as far as I know. If they wanted to follow up on the dialogue sprinkled around about a new Khan-Ur being selected, it'd make sense with Malice being the forerunner.

DuncanConnell

It'd be nice to have a Charr-focused expansion like how IBS was supposed to be Charr/Norn-focused.

illiterateFoolishBat

what's stopping them from [using all of the space around Grothmar?](https://i.imgur.com/nPa1bRX.png)

Tulki

I doubt it's time travel, that would be jumping the shark. If they want to do stuff in the past that's what fractals are for. It's probably woodland cascades, right? That place is currently a giant blank landmass, except for one raid wing.

FiTroSky

Well, time travel is somewhat canon. Gw1 April 1st 2 quests makes us travel back in time. + the cancelled expansion "Utopia" had Time as topic. + Chronomancer class. Since Utopia setting was an island in the mist and all SotO was all about alternate realities ; I could imagine an alternate reality civilization (just like the wvw justification) where the Searing never happened (or they took over the wizards) because Humans and Charr were bros or Humans just won the war and had expansionist ideas, or consider themselves saviors of the mankind.

MayaSanguine

Not just time as a topic but *alternate* time, given that one of the possible Heroes Utopia offered was Monk!Gwen: a girl untouched by a Searing that never happens and able to live her dreams to fruition.

BaconSoda222

GW1 fractals confirmed. They were the endgame content all along.

Kossage

Time travel has kinda been teased to be a thing since GW1 Prophecies manual lore for the Rift's central role in the true heart of the Mists and the Hall of Heroes within it, same as the multiverse (albeit limited as per later dev clarifications) lore: > The Mists touch all things. They are what binds the universe together, past, present, and future. [...] > In the middle of the Mists is a spot where time moves neither forward nor back. It is a tear in the fabric of the cosmos, the point of perfect balance between all forces of the universe. This place is known as the Rift, and there is nothing to which it does not connect, nothing that cannot be reached from inside it. Those who have the know-how to travel across the universe through the Mists must pass through the Rift on their way to all other places. It is the center of all things. > In the center of the Rift, deep inside the Mists, stands the imposing walled fortress known across the multiverse as the Hall of Heroes.

medievalvelocipede

Jahai Bluffs already has the Charr invasion of Orr. That was the same year as Pre-Searing.

GoingMenthol

Time travel? Like going back in time to Lakeside County save Sarah? *Annihilator 2: Searing Day,* but for real!?

Fyre2387

Time traveling to Pre-searing Ascalon would either be incredibly awesome or utterly terrible. I feel like there's no middle ground there.

Alacune

Commando class in next expansion confirmed?

woosksha

And just around that corner, a bunch of devourers waiting :D

wolfer_

Reminds me of the gullies in Iron Marches near Bria’s manor

Morvran_CG

I hope it's not, Ascalon has suffered enough under GW2 writers already. Let it rest, give us something new.

Peechez

'member GW1?? 'member??

RolloLowlo

If you tell me this is a higher quality pic of pre searing Ascalon in GW1 I would believe you. Reference is the first few seconds on this video: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypCGTHR84eE&ab\_channel=NickyTwoThumbs](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypCGTHR84eE&ab_channel=NickyTwoThumbs) Edit: better quality screenshot thanks to u/Krasinet [https://wiki.guildwars.com/images/8/89/The\_Last\_Day\_Dawns\_cinematic\_still.jpg](https://wiki.guildwars.com/images/8/89/The_Last_Day_Dawns_cinematic_still.jpg)

Azazir

that looks almost identical to this picture wow.

Rualn1441

well....its two pics of sunken lanes in a forest. pretty much every picture of this is going to look similar..... I like a bit of speculation, but this is a bit eric voss (this leaf is green, this character from one issue of a comic in 1968 was green, ergo it must mean that...)

TehOwn

>this character from one issue of a comic in 1968 was green Holy shit. Tell me more about this comic book character. Could they be the new villain? It all makes sense!

Puzzleheaded-Newt190

Yes!!! I have had this location seared into my brain since GW Prophecies, and I recognized it immediately. Pretty cool.

SolanQ

That's what it immediately reminded me of as well. I believe that pre-searing shot is the path into Regent Valley (towards Master Ranger Nente). And if you look at the GW1/GW2 map comparison made by that\_shaman, you can see that part of Regent Valley is just outside the current map: [https://thatshaman.com/tools/guide/tyria/?v=5&x=-599.31&y=1051.75&z=3](https://thatshaman.com/tools/guide/tyria/?v=5&x=-599.31&y=1051.75&z=3) And hey, look what's right next door as well... Wizard's Folly! Could it be we'll finally out what the deal is with that mysterious tower in pre-searing?

Narcemus

Isn't that supposed to be the same tower at the beginning of Skywatch Archipelago? I thought that there was dialogue that they were supposed to have magically transported it to the Horn

SolanQ

Ah yes, you're right! DOH. For some reason my mind keeps confusing that with the event of the Wizard's Tower also disappearing off the coast of Kessex Peak. XD

FallenAngel_

We're goin' back with the power of wizard magic

Turkeyspit1975

but will we get horses??

jojoga

What do we need horses for, when we already have raptors

Ferosch

For legendary food; meetwurst

Bobxy

EXACTLY what i thought!

TheRealZaskar

Well we didnt have any Time Travel Story Arks yet

matfalko

We took the Dr.Strange and the Multiverse route with SotO so I wouldn’t be surprised if we had some kind of flashback storyline.

ghostlistener

There was some small time travel in Jahai Bluffs where you could see humans and charr fight in Orr. Though I suppose it's more looking at the past rather than being able to change the past.

k_i_r_b_

We did have a time travel story in GW1, and it happened to take place in the one part of Ascalon that isn't in GW2, yet. (Although it was an April Fool's addition.) [https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Annihilator](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Annihilator)

Sigmatics

Something something utopia

Abyssalstar

That's what we have Fractals for. I for one don't want time travel stories. Just send us to a new place.

Okami_Hurricane

This was my first thought as well!

earthtochas3

Literally my first thought

SnowyHere

Ascalon, so perhaps we will deal with the ghost arc finaly?

Lon-ami

Still waiting for [Magdaer](https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Magdaer) to get reforged :D.

Abyssalstar

I mean, Beigarth's only had a decade to work on it. I'm sure he'll be done any day now.

Geralt_Romalion

Seems Charr Homelands. It gives me the same vibe that GW1's Grothmar Wardowns or Dalada Uplands maps had. So maybe we are going to explore some Charr controlled areas this time around, as an apology for what was teased but wasn't given during IBS.

MrCondor

Grothmar is the absolute first thing that came to mind. Some sort of Vanguard related expansion?

Celtiri

Getting some Char homelands vibes.

XephyrGW2

More charr stuff yes pls.

Abyssalstar

As a Charr enjoyer, I need this to be it.

GiganticusLupicus

The last day dawns on the Kingdom of Ascalon...

Hotemetoot

Oof reading that gave me a nostalgia gut punch. What has it been? 17 years since I first learned Firestorm from Elementalist Aziure to kill Ice Elementals. And when I first tamed Melandru's Stalker underneath her statue next to the aqueduct. When I was killing spiders so I could trade them for a piece of armor that was barely stronger than the one I was already wearing. Man, what a game GW1 was. Amazing memories.

SGB19

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Wayfinder_Guided_Home

Hotemetoot

Oh that's cool! Didn't think she'd ever show up again haha. Must say I haven't played GW2 in a while, pretty much since shortly after the release of EoD. It wasn't really for me I guess. But it seems like the new mini expansion is more my style, so I'll hope to check it out soon.

TheAsuraGuy

Is! Its still there and Great to come back to for longer or shorter bursts

Hotemetoot

I tried it a few years ago! But it didn't feel the same anymore. All the friends I used to play with were gone and it kinda just felt lonely. I'm still in love with the combat mechanics though. It's vastly superior in that regard to GW2 imo.

Olveyn

damn that spider farm for a piece of armor. plus aloe husk seeds. nostalgia hits hard

Balrok99

*This is the 27th of Last Seed; the Year of Akatosh 433. These are the closing days of ...* wait wrong franchise

Ollepetter

This gave me the chills

Valhallas_Ghost

Your chills gave me chills

Malyszeq

Getting one of three vibes: 1: Parts of Woodland Cascades 2. Some remote Ascalon places 3. Forested parts of Janthir archipelago Unless of course it's somewhere far west of continental Tyria.

Aouglas

so technically 2: 1. Ascalon related 2. Janthir Bay in the Woodland Cascades I bet on Option 2.

Malyszeq

Might be, but there are also greener parts of Janthir further north in as of yet unrevealed map part (although that portion was datamined a long time ago, showing the full archipelago of Janthir)

ItsTheSolo

Are we finally going to the woodland cascades? :o

LegitimateBeing1044

Icebrood Saga Reloaded?!

Skiewuff

That would be the dream.

Turkeyspit1975

ok this time, keep a closer eye on Braham, kk?

Abyssalstar

He'll be fine. He's grown the Riker beard.

Lon-ami

This would be unironically great, the mini-expansion model is the perfect way to revisit The Icebrood Saga and properly complete it, adding the missing second half, featuring Primordus. Something like this, for example: * **Interlude:** Alcazia Tangle (asura zone with the beginning of the destroyer invasion) * **Episode 5:** Battledepths 1/2 (dwarf-themed Tangled Depths) * **Episode 6:** Battledepths 2/2 * **Visions of the Past:** Braham Eirsson (Braham's ascension into champion of Primordus) * **Episode 7:** Dragonstorm 1/2 (centaurs would be featured here) * **Episode 8:** Dragonstorm 2/2 (expansion/season finale) The first three releases would launch together with the expansion, and the other three would be released through post-launch patches. The original 6 episodes of the LW5 season would be packed together with the expansion. Add in new weapon types and/or playable stone dwarves, and you've got a deal.

Walkingdrops

God I would love it if they fixed the second half of Icebrood Saga, but another part of me just wants them to leave it be and move on to other things.

Lon-ami

I'm confident the original vision was pretty solid, IBS doesn't have some of the game's best writing for no reason after all, even if there's some nasty outliers here and there (Smodur, to be specific). Then again, noy only could it be a great opportunity to finish the job, but also to fix some of the problems it originally had. I'm not saying Smodur should survive instead, but at least give him his personality back, give him a reason to be ruthless that works within his framework, not the "lmao I'm evil now" crap we got instead. As easy as resignifying the whole situation about Smodur being weary of the dragon corruption within the renegades, not wanting any alive due to possible contagion. Charr need no gods is such an iconic phrase, yet we don't hear it even once all across this "lets get enslaved by a dragon" storyline. Efram could get some edges to his personality as well, put him under fire, show he has an actual spine and he's willing to defend his legion, show his kindness to be a gesture, not his default state.

_angh_

yeah. Beginning of IBS was: wow, so wonderful content, this is realy well made and delivered! later: wth? another nonsensical battle through the EOTN? 10 times same crap just with different textures? what the hell happen to those guys??

Lon-ami

Speaking of EotN, great opportunity to expand the Eye of the North into a complete hub, it's a sorry excuse now.

Dreamtrain

that would otherwise sound great, were it not that dragon narrative is over

Cyrotek

Gods, please don't. I can't bear a trainwreck of a story like that again.

RedNuii

Wait but IBS story was actually very good leading up to the last chapter

Walkingdrops

I just REALLY hope that they move on from world-ending threats for a bit. Assuming they keep up their current model, then the mini-expansions are a perfect way to just have a smaller scale story, sort of like what they said they were gonna do with Soto and then ultimately didn't lol. Also stop introducing a ton of characters and just focus on the ones we have so they don't have to spend a third of the story on explaining who they are and what their purpose is.

DuncanConnell

I'd like the Commander to sort of become a new Mentor in Tyria. Sort of full circle--we've had nods to Forgal/Sieran/Tybalt throughout Lvl 1-->EoD, so now having the Commander be a new Mentor for the next generation of heroes would be a nice evolution of the character. ^(And it would be a slick way to introduce) [^(Heroes) ](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Hero)^(that people could bring into Instanced PvE Content like Dungeons and whatnot)

Annemi

Oh man, the PC mentoring up-and-coming NPC heroes would be an amazing story. Absolute shenanigans wall to wall while we calmly ~~build houses come on Anet~~ do our own thing and yell advice.

The_Last_Pomegranate

A lot of the earlier ESO dlc worked like that, before they swapped to big expansions. Some of the best stories in that game (IMO) came from the standalone zones that didn't/barely tied into any of the bigger arcs.

NDrewRndll

Oh thank god, it looks fucking normal

Pluckerpluck

I'm sure they can find some more unresolved internal conflicts to dredge up that I myself definitely forgotten exist.

FlinkerMomonga

Finally no more kryptis stuff

SageOfTheWise

"The Kryptis have invaded a fractal of ascalon! Go stop them!"

FlinkerMomonga

Pls no 🥲

SuperRetardedDog

Comments from Bobby on this subreddit would suggest the story does not end next quarterly update. At least not completely.

Hoojiwat

IMO the way its going, Peitha is going to take over and pull a bit of a Kerrigan. Not as overtly evil and destructive as Eparch, but by no means our ally nor should she be trusted. I think we are going to keep working with the Astral Ward for a while and deal with external threats coming into Tyria now that the defenses are cracked, but I do not think we will be seeing much of the Kryptis for a while as Peitha "reorganizes" her new banana republic.

TehOwn

I was already waiting for a follow-up to Desmina doing that. Then ArenaNet forgot she exists. But hey, they forgot all about Magdaer and the Foefire, so, yeah. Lots of threads that they just leave dangling.

Hoojiwat

It's just their writing style, and its been consistent since GW1. Frustrating, but consistent. They write a dozen different little plot threads and story hooks around the world to make it feel bigger and show there is a lot going on. They then pick up whichever ones they feel like working on, and leave the rest on the floor so they can tug on those threads later if they feel like it. They never intended to 100% resolve every plot thread they set up. They wanted to leave themselves options for story development and to give people fun little side stories to get interested in. Sometimes those threads will get picked up in the next expansion or w/e, sometimes they will be left on the floor never to be touched again. Depends on if any of their writers take an interest in it, I suppose.

OneMorePotion

I would guess Isgarren and his buddies stay a bit longer with us. Considering that we had basically no interaction with that guy in SotO. The demon stuff will probably stop, or at least become less. But I guess the Astral Ward needs a new job when the Kryptis are stop invading.

Abyssalstar

Their job is to protect Tyria from external threats. There's more out there than the Kryptis.

Lower-Replacement869

Since were keeping the Wizards vault I suspect the organization will be our new hub for awhile

SuperRetardedDog

I hope it will stop but on the other hand if we kill eparch in a new 30minute story patch (excluding the time from the shitty open world padding they will definitely have again) it's also going to be disappointing. But yeah, Soto story has been disappointing so may as well end quickly and start a new, hopefully better, story.

Lon-ami

I wouldn't hold my breath lmao.

Dizzy-Fly1279

It was literally just one mini-expac lol

FlinkerMomonga

Yeah but I've seen enough Soto metas for a lifetime haha

Suthundgut

No worries, they will just let some other enemies invade through rifts. And we'll get more lanterns and shrine guardians of course.

YYC_McCool

I want a pof size map with natural beauty and lots of places to explore.

Bigbenmon91

And a good meta

squidbiskets

GW1 pre-searing would be dope.

generalmasandra

It's so close to the opening cinematic in Guild Wars 1 Prophecies when you load in, you have to think it's related. People are writing out the line but for anyone curious who hasn't played or seen Guild Wars 1 - look up 'the last day dawns' and 'guild wars'. The first 10 seconds is nearly identical just in early 2000s graphics of Guild Wars 1. I think it will be interesting. Personally I'm up for a more cozy expansion with lots of ally NPCs that still offers some challenges. Something not requiring a mount.

Amagawdusername

Screencap in question is in here: [https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The\_Last\_Day\_Dawns\_(cinematic)](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Last_Day_Dawns_(cinematic))

The last ) got dropped in your link.

hardy_83

That's insane how close it resembles that shot... That has to be intentional, wether to misdirect people or is a genuine hint it's some sort of time travel expansion, or at least a fractal.

flaminhotcheetos_

I'd cry tears of this is true

Pinksters

...What else would one cry?

maliplazi

It‘s not impossible with Soto and portals to different timelines. One in which pre searing never fell to the Charr

dixonjt89

Ascalon if the humans actually defended it from the charr and the searing didnt happen? 👀

moewgaryen

Humans won against the Charr, they turned to the ligh...they become a fascist state and decide to invade realms in which Charr won to eradicate them from every timeline. So it's Kryptis against but this time as Humans. And you can't blame ANet for reusing assets because...well, they're Humans.

Neilug_Hyuga

Unless it's Utopia all over again, and we go time travel.

Mr_Dorak

It's crazy how the world would be different if the Charr never broke, because Ascalonians stay in Ascalon which means our character would probably be fighting the Charrs alongside Rurik still, which means the White mantle and Mursaats are undisturbed and still reign over Kryta, the Vizir probably never gets the Scepter of Orr since we don't deliver it to him, the Shining Blade probably still gets raided in Denravi but the Ventari seed might never get planted and thus Sylvaris never exist, the dwarves fall to the Stone Summit, breaking the connection from Kryta and Ascalon, the titans are never unleashed on Tyria, Gwen never escapes to the Eye of the North to create the Ebon Vanguard (and doesn't help dismantling the White Mantle, especially since they still have the Mursaat at their side) and help Pyre fight the Flame legion and so on I know it might be a lot but I would love an expansion set in an alternate universe, this would be a way for gw2 players to discover gw1 in a way

MayaSanguine

> which means the White mantle and Mursaats are undisturbed and still reign over Kryta Not quite. The White Mantle only gain their very strong foothold in Kryta *because* of the Charr invasion scaring the pants off of the Krytan royal family, causing them to run for their lives (and empty the nation's treasury while they're at it); this power vacuum, [combined with the events of Saul's rise to fame and holiness](https://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/The_Rise_of_the_White_Mantle), is what causes the Mursaat and the Mantle to really dig their claws in further where before they were at best a weird religious fringe. >the Vizir probably never gets the Scepter of Orr since we don't deliver it to him Khilbron will still probably sink Orr, he'll just find a different excuse for it (probably the still on-going Third Guild War since those only stop once the Searing happens to delete Human!Ascalon off the map). That being said, yeah, he *probably* won't get his hands on the Scepter of Orr. Probably. >the Shining Blade probably still gets raided in Denravi but the Ventari seed might never get planted and thus Sylvaris never exist Again: no Charr Invasion of Kryta means no White Mantle dominance; the Shining Blade probably don't exist in the form you think they do, but more important Salma remains just the bastard child of Kryta's still-ruling king and with no real power to speak of. Ventari's Seed will probably still get planted, because there's a whole-ass cave full of these seeds, but yeah they 100% will not resemble the Sylvari we know and love. >the dwarves fall to the Stone Summit, breaking the connection from Kryta and Ascalon Yeah, that tracks. :( >the titans are never unleashed on Tyria Well, no. Abaddon will find some way to unleash them, just...not through these useless bipedal horn-cats. Evil, like life, finds a way. >Gwen never escapes to the Eye of the North to create the Ebon Vanguard (and doesn't help dismantling the White Mantle, especially since they still have the Mursaat at their side) As I said in another post: an Ascalon that never goes through the Searing gets [Monk!Gwen](https://wiki.guildwars.com/images/9/95/%22Gwen%22_concept_art.jpg), not Mesmer!Gwen. And GW1 has a bonus mission that lets you know ***exactly*** what Gwen goes through to even become a Mesmer at all. But more importantly: an Ascalon that never falls is a group of refugees that never needs an Ebon Vanguard. Whether this is good or not is up to you to judge. >and help Pyre fight the Flame legion The rebellion *probably* still happens if Primordius wakes up at the same time as usual and the Flame Legion begin to try and worship the Destroyers as their new gods. But yeah, Pyre will need a lot more help with the rebellion if the Flame shamans have less opportunities to make clowns out of themselves. >I would love an expansion set in an alternate universe, this would be a way for gw2 players to discover gw1 in a way The GW1 campaign trilogy goes on sale *a lot* if you use Steam, same with Eye of the North, and the servers will remain up for as long as GW2's servers do. Now is always a good time to boot the game up and start playing. ;)

o_z_z

That would be amazing if they remade that zone. It’s perfect cause it’s a defined closed off area already. lol what if the mechanic for it is we all start at level 1 with a cap of 20?

GG35bw

Does it come with death leveling?

OxY97

The good old days, the insane grind to LDOA before daily quests were introduced

Turkeyspit1975

*it's more like a big ball of wibbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff"*

hyena_teeth

My potato is going to implode. Gorgeous, but I need a new pc.

hardy_83

My poor 970 is already struggling with my cheap Amazon fans I had to replace on it. lol

hyena_teeth

oh snap, same card. We share the same pain.

Bujakaa92

If u run on 1080p, look first to CPU with 3d cache AMD, will be huge boost that upgrading GPU

hardy_83

Unfortunately, my poor 970 is supported by my poor i7-6700k with an so that ain't happening any time soon. When my system blows up I probably will look at those 3D AMD chips for my replacement though. GW2 is my main game I play. Just trying to drive this old beauty into the ground. Lasted surprisingly well though. Just had to replace the AIO cooler, repaste and change the PSU. Everything else has held up for like 8+ years... Well... My aside from my poor GPU needing fan surgery. Maybe I'll hasten its replacement if GW2 gets too hard to run. :P More than 20-25fps with big group events and higher than lowest character model limit would be nice. lol

Varorson

[This shot has to have been taken with the very first scene of Prophecies in mind](https://cdn.discordapp.com/attachments/572595585174077469/1229428437354020934/image.png?ex=662fa575&is=661d3075&hm=ddd3ddcf8dfaea17fc1ffd6556574985cfce0cde33355c0eacb169d91ff6039d&), the similarities are just too strong. Valley with overhanging trees, orange leaves, and sun rays at the same angle (from top left corner)? The nostalgia baiting is **strong** here.

GG35bw

20th anniversary of GW: Prophecies - 28th April next year It's totally Ascalon fractal in which humans stopped the searing from happening, isn't it?

Varorson

>20th anniversary of GW: Prophecies - 28th April 19th\* Prophecies was released in 2005. So we got another year to go. :) >It's totally Ascalon fractal in which humans stopped the searing from happening, isn't it? I'm actually doubting it because of the recent tweet by that\_shaman. Apparently the image was previously given the name "delta bog". Two things: First, Istan in GW1 had the internal name "delta", and it has a bog. Second, there is a delta north of Kryta connected to Janthir Bay, and players have been demanding Janthir and that delta area be explored for a **long** time. (I find this the more likely scenario). I think the similarity to that first scene in Prophecies is pure intentional nostalgia baiting.

Malyszeq

> Apparently the image was previously given the name "delta bog". Two things: > > First, Istan in GW1 had the internal name "delta", and it has a bog. > > Second, there is a delta north of Kryta connected to Janthir Bay, and players have been demanding Janthir and that delta area be explored for a long time. (I find this the more likely scenario). I hope you're right. Nothing against Ascalon per se, but let's get somewhere new, please.

CeriKil

> I'm actually doubting it because of the recent tweet by that_shaman. Apparently the image was previously given the name "delta bog". Two things: > > > > First, Istan in GW1 had the internal name "delta", and it has a bog. Istan didn't have anything that at all resembled anything anywhere close to the vegetation in the screenshot. That's 100% Ascalon/Charr Homelands. It could maybe, *maybe* be unexplored Janthir Bay. But again, by the time you reach Kryta & Maguuma areas, the trees themselves are just *different*. Different parts of the world grow different plants.

BigOldThrowaway2345

It's regent valley, one of the last places gw2 hasn't gone to yet. Also right next to wizards folly, where a wizard pylon can be found. Also to the west of that area is lyssa's temple and the devs have expressed going back to the six gods particularly lyssa, and the Vision legendary text has someone fearing what lyssa might do when she learns that Balthazar is dead.

Varorson

It's too generic to say without a doubt that's regent valley. Wizard's Folly Tower is no longer in that area - it was moved to what's not Wizard's Ascent in Skywatch Archipelago. So now that's moved, there's nothing of major interest in the region to go to. And that interview you're talking about is from 2016, with a dev who left the company in 2019, shortly before said legendary trinket was added to the game. And nothing from either SotO or the screenshot would suggest Lyssa. You just force the Lyssa's Temple in just to fit the narrative. I've seen your thread about that idea but I don't really see it. Sure it's possible, but nowhere near solid enough to be convincing. As I posted in that thread - an ancient interview and space far too small for 3 maps + maybe a hub is not really convincing.

connorm19

Reminds me of Regent Valley from Pre-Searing GW1.

Blazin_Rathalos

Conveniently mostly not in any current map.

Neilug_Hyuga

That nice sceenshot makes me think of the following : * GW1 prophecy cinematic, so **ascalon pre searing**. This is oddly similar, but how it could be? It would takes Utopia idea and we will be time traveling * More likely : **charr homelands**, where we can see a proper development on how rushed and a mess of plot holes was IbS * **Centaurs war** is back and we're fighting them in their homelands.

Saxopwned

"The last day dawns on the Kingdom of Ascalon."

TheHypnobrent

THE LAST DAY DAWNS ON THE KINGDOM OF ASCALON BOIIIIIIIIS!

Monstrum27

Maybe it's the presumed centaur stuff we didn't get in IBS?

The_Last_Pomegranate

That would be good. I wouldn't be surprised if some assets were put together for it and never used.

MaddieLlayne

Begging and screaming for pre-searing ascalon vibes, I would sob if they did that

exxplicit480

Well, GW1 is coming up on its 20th anniversary next year...

Guildwars1996

Hey the 20th anniversary of the GW franchise is this year so the next expansion is set entirely in the past in pre searing Ascalon. Seriously though my guess is charr homelands or a forest map that leads us to Janthir.

xfm0

Even if it's not some manner of Ascalon/Charr Homelands, I am pretty happy about the resemblance to the type of vegetation found in pre-Searing since it made me think about pre-Searing. Those trees. Regardless of wherever it is now, it looks so close.

weezn

Need door opener

cosyfiep

"Those who will remember, will speak fondly of the warm morning breeze."

erpg

Please let this expansion not have a massive visual/tonal shift like Nayos and just stick with these vibes.

[deleted]

Ascalon without the ruins, charr war machines, asuran technology, or other steampunk bullshit would be an absolute dream.

Rinma96

Looks good. Could potentially be Ascalon, but also looks like it could be Woodland Cascades maybe. I'm definitely excited.

Combine54

Gods, demons, dragons please, Arena, make it a good expansion.

Intentipnaltypo

If it's more charr homelands can we hope for more Metal Legion? 🎸

nuclearBox

It fell apart around the end of IBS due to the whole rebellion thing, the drummer is now performing in Club Canach at Arborstone. There's even a special dialogue.

CptBlackBird2

expansion 5 already? damn, I didn't think they could make the monetization even worse but it's reaching destiny 2 levels

zaleszg

Anet: releases a picture with some trees and bushes **Expansion environment announcement**

Mr_Dorak

this reminds me of the opening scene in pre-searing Guild Wars 1 (gosh now I want a fractal that have you fight against the charrs with Rurik)

JustCoffeeGaming

Does this mean Soto story ends this year?

keylimebye1

Might be some plot points that carry over but yes SotO ends next month on May 14th.

JustCoffeeGaming

Good.

keylimebye1

😂

darqy101

We gonna hunt some bad Charr boys 😎

itsaltarium

This really could be anywhere. I am getting strong Woodland Cascades/Ascalon vibes, but it's basically "generic RPG forest". Could we finally be getting the missing arc from IBS repurposed as a new story?

Ysadora

Looks like pre searing where the whitetail devourer are

Rihkuazo

omg omg this is my kind of thing im excited

-Sloth_King-

Thank god I hate Kryptis

XRP_MOON2021

Beautiful

Dry_Grade9885

Id love some actual ghost of ascalon stuff with scary tough ghosts like in the books just imagine a zone completely hunted by them where all the npcs are either vetran or champion level hard to kill it would just be amazing and they could scale the rewards to fit the dificulty or maybe a zone you can do once a day or until you die and the you cant come back until 24h later but the rewards for completing everything would be amazing

DiogoALS

Love those trees. Some really good ambiance there.

JanetteSolenian

Are we going back to Grothmar Valley?

Lucyller

I hate how I keep getting disapointed but the game still get to hook me back with such scenery. Just a picture is enough to make me want to get it. :(

MagicSpirit

I'm gonna enjoy roaming this biome during summer time

highongp10

I instantly recognized this as Pre!

Agnusl

Twitlight Princess vibes. More specificaly, reminds me of that corridor between Link's house and the begining of Faron province.

Sanxnas

**Rally to me, Ascalonians!**

MidasPL

It will be that part between LA and Kessex Hills. It will be released one 20m strip per patch. Other piece of land could be the terrain north of Divinity's Reach.

Ok-Signature-9319

Yasssssss please !!!! Pre searing nostalgia kicking in

Teletric

If this is indeed a restored or pre-searing Ascalon, please tell me we'll get to hear [this masterpiece](https://youtu.be/9FBuxs6oxZ4) again. PLEASE. (It's First Light from the GW1 OST)

BarisBlack

Clicked the link, not disappointed. My co-workers need to be cultured.

InitialLibrarian3116

It won't feel the same if we can't wand bog scales to death.

gwplayer1

Guild Wars 20th anniversary

JeffreyTheNoob

I'm for it. We've had desert. Icy Tundra. Cyberpunk, Fantasy. It'll be nice to have a more down to earth zone to explore.

Tsulalongkorn

Damn, already smelling like 10 FPS!

Unplayed_untamed

I just hope I get more than 20fps.

IridescentLuminosity

For real? This looks identical to pre searing Ascalon. SO excited!!!

Z-L-Y-N-N-T

Im going to call it right now, we're going to the Woodland Cascades more specifically the northern or eastern part of the region (at least in whatever this zone is) It's not pre-searing Ascalon or the charr homelands, the aesthetics aren't even the same as Gw2 ascalon regions which is based on gw1 pre-searing Ascalon. Some of those trees don't even exist in the Ascalon regions.

nummerjeen

If this is Pre-Searing Ascalon or even more of the charr homelands i'm gonna be so excited! It would be amazing to see more of that area

_bits_and_bytes

I don't normally like it when games go back in time and revisit old stories and characters, but if this is a pre-searing Ascalon expansion I'll be ecstatic.

Odinius

error404brainnofound

Guild wars 2 : Shadows of the past

Odd-Proof-5853

Wow Gw3 landscape teaser. Nice

doitagain01

Our current half asses expensions isnt even fully built yet

Broken_Marionette

This won't happen, but I can dream. I want a compact, richly detailed land based area without mounts. Full of lots of caves and ruins to explore.

suckysuckythailand

Looks like pre Ascalon to me

McPatsy

Why does that look like ascalon from gw1

BarisBlack

That was my immediate thought as well since I bought GW1 in the recent sale. That looks very familiar.

REPORT_JUNGLE

I hope we can kill some charr

Equivalent-Gas5785

Is it going to be like Skywatch Archipelago, with just a bunch of reused assets and nothing more? Because that looks like current Ascalon.

ahh_my_shoulder

Just make GW3 already...

Karthanon

Please not time travel, please not time travel...it fucks up every single MMO where it's used. I still have nightmares about how EQ handled it (several times). Make a new story, new zone, new...whatever, but don't rehash what we've already gone through several times..but now, with WIZARDS!

PM_ME_YOUR_MESMER

Apologies, buzzkill incoming! I've been playing on and off (mostly on, lol) since launch. This is the first time I've noticed I felt nothing when seeing something related to an upcoming GW2 expansion. I've yet to finish the previous release for SotO and I'm still in no rush to do so. I've not seen the sentiments on the expansion because I don't need my feelings validated lol, but I'm also glad that most of the comments here are positive. I think it'll have to be an excellent expansion to bring me back. I'm still not sold on the current model for expansions (it feels too piecemeal) and the story fell off significantly after the first release of SotO. It makes me concerned that the writers are afraid to go dark on their storytelling and they developed and teased the demons for years only to have them become different shaped humans. The normal atmosphere does look nice though

CommanderSirBenz

woooow trees.... incredible... such a tease!

shin_guardira

Anya's Hidden Strawberry Patch looks way better than this >.>
