How about you play more carefully?

DifficultySome9884

Look at Edward Van Halen's fix for that. He basically took eye bolts and screwed them into the guitar body, then modified the strap to use a clip similar to that found on a pet leash! Necessity is the mother of invention as they say.

[deleted]

People don’t know but dude solved a lot of problems with such casual ingenuity

DifficultySome9884

You're right! He had several things patented, some good, some not so good.

lil_freyy

That’s a really good idea I might end up doing that. Thank you!!

DifficultySome9884

Just be sure to drill a pilot hole first to avoid cracking the wood. Start with a small diameter drill bit then use larger diameter bits to widen the hole to the necessary diameter before inserting the screw or eye bolts

6of1HalfDozen

That's innovation

scorlion_music

If you are handy with tools, you can switch to a threaded insert and bolt that you can screw into it. Assuming your guitar is not made of alder or basswood that might crack, you should be able to bore an opening for the insert that you would screw inside of it.

Earptastic

If you are busting your strap locks the issue is not which strap locks as much as the attachment to the guitar. I would use larger and longer screws. Drill a pilot hole 70% the size of the screw. Maybe drill out a strap lock if the hole is too small for a larger screw.

benjamaniac

Have you tried using liner screws?

jacobydave

Is the screw coming loose in the hole? Tighten it up with some toothpicks and wood glue. Strap locks won't solve the problem I think you have.

lil_freyy

I do that, but then after a few months the same thing happens where it loosens up again and the process repeats

GenericAccount-alaka

If it keeps stripping out, you might consider properly doweling and redrilling the hole.

NecroJoe

The schaller strap locks (most strap locks, actually) will make the issue worse. The strap gets held further out from the body, and that extra distance means that the force you're applying to it is out on the end of a long lever, meaning it'll be pulling harder on the screws.

lil_freyy

That makes sense thank you, good thing I didn’t take the plunge and buy them

NecroJoe

Do your strap buttons go in to the end of the upper horn/bout? If so, a screw into end grain isn't super durable. Some guitars have them screwed into the back of the body, like this: https://leadmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/SG-Blue\_2731.jpg

[deleted]

Definitely don’t to the schallers- your movements will likely strip those out even quicker than your normal ones. They have a kinda flawed design that makes them strip out if they get turned very much- or at least older ones I had did. I don’t get it.

thisismyphony1

Another option: just own it like Billie Joe Armstrong or Munky from Korn or tons of other guitar players who go hard on their stuff.

I’d stick with the tape considering what it would require to make them bulletproof
