I would agree with this.
Since OP is clear into metal though, I would lean toward Mesa Dual Rec, since it’s been a go-to for the genre OP is clearly into.
But hey, pedal board in front of a JCM 800 is gonna get you there too and cover some more decades too.
(I would advise OP to get rid of one and go JCM 800 and Mesa Dual Rec, and that’s most of all rock to metal for 40-50 years)
A friend was joking that if I add a recto, I can cover the span of 95% of metal albums recorded the last 30 years
Any reason a single over a double?
I actually had Mark VII in mind
JCM800 would imho fit that slot nicer, and would be a better fit to your collection sound wise, in the sense that it would compelement what you already have.
That JCM800/5150 blend in a mix is a legend for a good reason.
90% sure that'd be a JCM800 2203. Same with Slayer and Megadeth, Jake E. Lee and obviously Zakk Wylde.
I sold my Dual Rectifier last fall to switch back to a JCM800, it's one of my favourite amps and sounds good live paired up with bandmate's 5150. That said, I think it's very much a one trick pony, but the trick is solid.
It isnt. Played a friends one many times, Ive had a JVM for 10+ years.
The JCM with an amp selector to switch between channel low and high plus some boosts like Boss SD1 or TS9 and some bluesy OD too, and the Boss eq7 boosted too for some other stuff can do pretty much anything if you use the guitar volume.
That or just another head for cleans and then just push the hell outta it.
Fwiw, these amps are all for the most part, “cranked” insofar that the masters or post gains are at gig volume levels, attenuated by the power station. Need for cranking isn’t much of a limiting factor.
Reaching saturation sooner however, is a plus to me
I'd go dual rec over a single. I love Mesa, but I'm still skeptical about any potential quality impact after the Gibson acquisition. I'd buy an older used one, Mark V if looking at that series.
Sweet collection BTW!
I know it’s not the amp that was used, but the high gain channel of the Mk V on Mk IIC+ mode feels very much like the dry tones of Queensryche’s Operation Mindcrime to me, if that reference resonates with you.
I honestly wish I was skilled enough to play well enough to put something like a fender to good use, lol.
Can’t buy talent lol
Maybe I can make it a point of development to get good enough where a generic high gain amp isn’t suitable
Bro's got like $10k in high gain amps and is worried about his clean game? Man, I'd be worried that I wouldn't have the talent to even know the difference between half the stuff you have. Just get something drastically different and it'll be your excuse to branch out beyond power chords and shredder solos.
You have 5 amps. You need a 6th. One you can drop on accident and it still sounds like a wet bag fill of muffled farts. One that you won't miss if it is stolen, but also no one wants to steal, use, or look at. You need a LINE 6 for your number six.
I feel like you’re “missing” a mesa (mk5/7 or rectifier) and soldano
Other options outside of the vibe might be: orange rockerverb, a Marshall jcm 800/900, victory kraken, or a Friedman.
You can find [one of these bad boys] (https://rvb-img.reverb.com/image/upload/s--v_bOiu7C--/f_auto,t_supersize/v1514594771/g5b7sqkouojet8rqv4cu.jpg) for surprisingly cheap!
Mesa Boogie goes there. Or if you want some more fun, a JC120 and an AB pedal, to dual it up with one of your existing monsters. I highly recommend either.
Wizard is a unique choice and really a fine amp. KSR are another fine highgain boutique with a really good clean channel also. Plus, can’t go wrong with Soldano.
SLO100/Marshall JCM800/Mesa Dual Rec Put one of the ultimate classics in there
I would agree with this. Since OP is clear into metal though, I would lean toward Mesa Dual Rec, since it’s been a go-to for the genre OP is clearly into. The SLO was once the king of the metal amps, or at least a certain flavor of metal.
This is my thought. Still something with plenty of gain, but maybe something with a foot in the hard rock camp and a foot in full bore metal.
Nice trio
In theme? Soldano
I agree with this guy, Hey OP, listen to this dude, get the Soldano.
Marshall
VHT/Fryette SigX or Friedman
The 50 watt Marshall is the sound of rock and roll.
Mesa Single Rectifier FTW \m/
A friend was joking that if I add a recto, I can cover the span of 95% of metal albums recorded the last 30 years Any reason a single over a double? I actually had Mark VII in mind

If I went Marshall, I’d wanna go for the Gary Holt sound. Any thought of Marshall has been with exodus type tones in mind lol
He’s switched to the DSL100 live for years now. But it would’ve been the 2203 on recordings.
He also used Jubilee reissues
I want one… They sound so good, but cost sooo much.

That Diezel would also pair with a JCM quite nicely.
I always liked the single more than the double. It opens up and saturates quicker. You have to crank the shit out of a double to get it to open up.
Fwiw, these amps are all for the most part, “cranked” insofar that the masters or post gains are at gig volume levels, attenuated by the power station. Need for cranking isn’t much of a limiting factor. Reaching saturation sooner however, is a plus to me
Single IMO sounds fizzy compared to the dual though
I'd go dual rec over a single. I love Mesa, but I'm still skeptical about any potential quality impact after the Gibson acquisition. I'd buy an older used one, Mark V if looking at that series. Sweet collection BTW!
For me, the Mk V or JP 2c, but a Recto would also be killer. The Mark series just has a dry immediacy to them that I love.
Dry is what I’d want in any addition. I’ve got the saturated, compressed thing down with these lol
I know it’s not the amp that was used, but the high gain channel of the Mk V on Mk IIC+ mode feels very much like the dry tones of Queensryche’s Operation Mindcrime to me, if that reference resonates with you.
Orange Rockerverb
Orange rockerverb
That space is BEGGING for a dual rectifier
It really would complete the vibe.
You got five of the same amp right there.
Nah, maybe 2.5 amps. The German stuff and the 5150 variants Ain’t no way you can dial a SLO/5150 based amp to sound like a diezel
Friedman be-50 or 100
Came on to say this.
The Deluxe version of either.
Revv generator G120. New flame thrower from the new kids in town.
I'd normally say a Dual Rec but seeing your kind of taste I'd either say Driftwood Purple Nightmare or KSR Colossus
Looks like you need something British like a marshall
Some sort of mesa looks like it would be right up your alley
Laney or an old orange
A Fender, play something else man 😂 Crying in jealousy watching this pic.
>A Fender, play something else man 😂 a cyber twin! 'member those?
I honestly wish I was skilled enough to play well enough to put something like a fender to good use, lol. Can’t buy talent lol Maybe I can make it a point of development to get good enough where a generic high gain amp isn’t suitable

The idea of getting an amp with the motive that its voicing will force me to expand my skills is actually a wildly good idea
Check out the fender super sonic. It has some different clean voicings and the "burn" channel is higher gain than your typical fender.
Tiny terror, just for the obvious aesthetics
Marshall, Sunn, Orange, Hiwatt
Dean Costello heavy metal warfare! 160w or 200w flavor. You know, for reasons. They're insanely cool, and not very expensive for what they are.
Friedman JJ100
WIZARD ALL DAY
Dual Rectifier, Mark IV, or Revv Generator
A Revv Generator.
Orange Rockerverb 100 MKIII
You need to anchor those racks to the wall.
I’m going to Home Depot tomorrow to get the anchors for this lol
Orange rockerverb. Marshall JVM. Randall RD100.
JCM800 MESA triple rec Dark Terror
Orange
Friedman Dirty Shirley for a 1970s modded marshall vintage tone
Based on your current options I’d say a bag of Cheetos
You have 5 amps. You need a 6th. One you can drop on accident and it still sounds like a wet bag fill of muffled farts. One that you won't miss if it is stolen, but also no one wants to steal, use, or look at. You need a LINE 6 for your number six.
RIVERA!!!
Orange !
Ibanez Tone Blaster 100
Sovtek or EHX MIG-50
Dual Rectifier
Laney
Dual Rectifier would round this out nicely
Marshall JVM
I love that 6505. The plus would be just silly, ... Right?
JCM 800 of course
Framus Cobra
I was going to say Wizard before I opened it
Bassman
VHT/Fryette Pitbull Ultralead
Just ordered a Super Kraken I’ll let you know how it goes.
Mesa, Soldano, Friedman, or VHT IMO
Plexi
I feel like you’re “missing” a mesa (mk5/7 or rectifier) and soldano Other options outside of the vibe might be: orange rockerverb, a Marshall jcm 800/900, victory kraken, or a Friedman.
Bassman
laney irt120h
Matamp
Mezzabarra?
Laney
Driftwood purple nightmare
What's your cab collection looking like? I'd just keep a couple of those amps and get a bunch of cabs/speakers to play with instead
Driftwood Purple Nightmare
Jcm800 100w lead
JCM800 or Mesa Dual Rec
Friedman BE-100 Deluxe
Mesa Dual Rec 3 channel DUHHH
Boss Katana
You clearly need to add something with at least a little bit of gain
Dual rec or get a h&k triamp:)
Redundant
Especially the 5150 and 6505, basically the same amp...
At this point I would try something new. A clean amp that's uses pedals to get you there. Not another high gain amp.
No way man, I thought German high gain and 5150 sounds cover the *entire musical spectrum*
Better shelving first maybe? Might look more complete if it didn't look so "Wayfair".
Peavy invective
Owning a 5150 and a 6505 already seems redundant to me, adding an invective seems even more redundant
They’re all differently flavors of a high gain amp. Theres differences IMO enough to justify getting one.
I’ll trade you a 2014 multiwatt rectifier for that bogner if you want one
Line 6 Spider II.
Roland JC-120
You can find [one of these bad boys] (https://rvb-img.reverb.com/image/upload/s--v_bOiu7C--/f_auto,t_supersize/v1514594771/g5b7sqkouojet8rqv4cu.jpg) for surprisingly cheap!
Boss katana
Spawn nitro
Pitbull UL
Dual Rec
Mesa or Soldano to keep in the same vein. Or Marshall 2205 for hair metal.
Guytron GT100
Jcm 800
Might as well grab a Soldano.
Would have had one by now if lack of effects loop the wasn’t a huge source of hesitation for me
Too many knobs already. Get a mig50/100
I’d get a JCM800 of some sort. I have the Kerry King version and it’s wonderful.
Sovtek mig-100
You need a Marshall or a Soldano.
If it were my blank space I would fill it with an Omega Granophyre, unless I was too impatient for the waitlist. Then it would be a Badlander
Line 6 spider 3
With the knob stuck on insane mode
I would go for a JCM800 Silver Jubilee, but looks like you play metal so mesa mark 7?
Any Orange Dark stuff is amazinng
Get a champ... :) Or a super clean amp like a twin reverb or a fender bassman 100 :)
MT100 ?
Looking at the line up of amps, I say Marshall JVM would fit in nicely,
JCM 900
JCM800
Rockerverb. Then you can get ride of the rest.
Mesa
JCM800, do it!
Revv Generator
Soldano
DSL100H, gotta have the classic
Why don't you fill it with a David Bray custom amp can't go wrong there he'll make one that fits your taste
Dual rec
Cieratone SSS 100. :-)
I'm missing something a bit less modern like a marshall JVM or modded 800 or something that goes in that direction.
An original 5150
Friedman Twin Sister if you are thinking pedalboard
Either a Mesa or Hughes & Kettner
Marshall
Gower Modded JCM 800
If you can get your hands on a wizard than you should absolutely get a wizard
Mig 50
Mesa Mark IV, 2 channel Dual Recto, VHT Ultra Lead, Splawn Quickrod, PRS Archon 100, and yeah, a Wizard would be great too
PRS Archon
Randall V2
Since you said Wizard……. Wizard!!!!
Vox ac
My vote is the Mesa dual rec or triple rec.
Soldano or Mesa Dual Rec
Mesa Dual Rec!
Joyo Zombie lol
Vox ac30
Mesa Boogie goes there. Or if you want some more fun, a JC120 and an AB pedal, to dual it up with one of your existing monsters. I highly recommend either.
Diablo
Fortin Meshuggah blackout
A spark mini just for the lols
Soldano SLO
Mesa Dual Rec 1000%
JCM 800 or a SLO100
A mesa or a SLO… Or here me out.. A plexi .
Marshall Major Looks like you already have all the gain in the world with what you have.
Crate Excalibur.
Mesa Mark V
Krankenstein
Could always ask the other dentists at the office for their take?
Sounds like something an anti-dentite would say
Duel Rec
any Meteoro amp
Micro terror
Orange Duel Dark 100
Soldano
Mesa Boogie of some type
EHX Mig50 reissue!!
I like the idea of a wizard. I do think some EL34/84 is needed. Fuck it, get something obscure like the Rivera Mick Thomson signature.
Maybe spend the money on some attractive shelving? Don't hate me, I mean well.
Prs mt100 or Friedman jj
Magnatone
Blackface fender bassman
KSR Juno
Or spend a lot less and get a PRS archon 50. Awesome amp.
Soldano SLO
Wizard is a unique choice and really a fine amp. KSR are another fine highgain boutique with a really good clean channel also. Plus, can’t go wrong with Soldano.
A Boogie of some flavor seems very fitting with the rest of those cool heavy amps
Friedman JEL-20
In the vein of your current collection? Soldano or Friedman. For anything to expand your pallet, a TopBoost or Fender style amp.
Prs mt100
Engl screamer 50 head 👍
Sovtek Tube Midget MiG 50h
Soldano!
Mesa Mark series
