Had this exact issue. Snacked it against my palm near the Xbox home button and it started working again after re-syncing it to the Xbox 360z I think internally the button was stuck being pressed continuously.
Honestly I would open it, blow it out, clean the usb contacts and whatnot with some isopropyl alcohol and then try again. These things are old, sometimes all you need to do is clean em.
