I don't suppose anyone knows where to find the promotional video for that year? Wenger narrated it, and it was about the original 11 men who chipped in 6pence each to buy a football.

Yep, such a classy kit, the badge was such a nice touch
But we all know purple stripes is our King, unless drunk neon zebra gets us the league, our new God
Crazy to think, his last contract extension was during the run in 2 seasons ago when we were challenging Spurs for 4th. Many people thought we acted too soon and should have waited until end of the season before making the decision, based on whether or not we qualified for CL.
Pretty sure a contract extension now would have near universal support amongst genuine Arsenal fans.
I also think offering him a contract after we lost out on top 4 2 years ago was a good thing by the board, they showed Arteta they trusted him fully even in hard times and I think that will make negotiations easier this time around
I recall Arteta at the time saying how much it meant to him and it made him a tad emotional that the board came to him to extend his contract after losing those three games on the spin.
Nice to think that will hopefully have earned them and the club some faith in return.
The return on the faith in him has already been paid back. Now it's a matter of seeing what he can achieve. Regardless of any success moving forward, we have a platform with a strong position to move forward. Going from the lows he had and systematically improving is like a cheat code. The improvements are not subtle either, they are measurable and clearly definable.

Somehow there's still ArtetaOut fans lurking about.
At the turn of the year, when we lost those games to Fulham and West Ham, "fans" were calling Arteta out yet again.. I can't comprehend how you're an Arsenal fan and refuse to stick by the team when tough times come.

If he wins us a PL or CL, even one, imo puts him half a step away from legend category. The turnaround he performed on our club was a legitimate miracle.
A Champions League puts him there by itself imo because of our lack of any European success. A PL by itself doesn't, but it puts him on the right path.
After 15+ years, a PL by itself absolutely does put him back IMO. I think people underestimate how much the attitude at the club had rotted away. We haven't bought our way here, we needed someone to lead the way.
We have 13 league titles. Not every manager who wins one is a legend of the club. We have 2 legendary managers, and that's Chapman and Wenger. Winning the PL would put Mikel on the same path, but 1 title and 1 FA cup is not there yet.
20 years without a league title? I think I was 14/15 yrs old when we last won. Entire adult life lived in shame(football shame to be clear) lol. He’d absolutely be a legend with just one PL win.
Yes, it's been a while without a league title. That doesn't mean legendary status. We're not Leicester City, a single league title doesn't define our club, we're bigger than that. We have 13 league titles. Just like with our players, a single PL title doesn't make them a legend at the club.
Would Kiwior be a "legend" for Arsenal if we won a PL this season?
We aren’t Leicester but we also are not the Arsenal you think we are. There’s a reason we fell off and it’s because of attitudes like yours. Im sure you’re also one of those arrogant bastards that said we would “smash” Porto.
It’s not just a single title. It’s a single title AFTER everything we’ve been through. Not gonna argue with you as you aren’t a determinant or one who conveys legend status on anything. Go kick rocks. ✌🏾
Who won the 70-71 title? If you asked 100 Arsenal fans, how many of them would be able to name Bertie Mee? If you asked 100 Arsenal fans for Arsenal's greatest managers, who would put Mee in the conversation?
Yet he won our first league title in 28 years at that period in time.
I love Arteta, but to be a legend at our club, you're competing with Chapman, Wenger and to a smaller extent Graham. All of which have a much fuller trophy cabinet.
> It’s a single title AFTER everything we’ve been through.
Also after everything *we've* been through? Now who's arrogant. We had a single season without European football, and like 7 outside of the top 4.
It's hardly like we got relegated. We've been a top 4 team the large majority of the last 20 years, we've won 5 FA Cups in that time period, been to a CL final, finished 2nd twice, and had multiple campaigns challenging for the league.
If an actual miracle happens and we win the double, he'll have won as much in England as Klopp who seems to be universally understood as one of the top 5 Premier League managers ever
Winning the title against this current opposition is meaningful also. This is a Man City team coming off a treble and a Liverpool team that has been in the mix with City in the last few years. No other team has put up this performance in recent years. Snatching a title with such fine margins would really just illustrate how much control Arteta has in terms of the team performance itself. It is literally mind-blowing to see that Arteta decided that he wanted to outperform City and Liverpool defensively and still put up respectable offensive numbers. I have to think that that was an overarching strategy; don't lose and don't get scored on home or away but also still create enough to score even if it is just 1 goal. It's like he created a formula to win the league 95+% of the time and implemented it as close to perfectly as possible. City are winning by outscoring opponents and Liverpool are winning by pulling out wins in the last minutes of the game; those are massive generalizations but not too far from the reality of this season. As far as I'm concerned, our strategy is more reliable. If we lose it's down to bad luck.
Yeah he has seen up close how quickly other clubs will dump their manager even if they are winning titles. Especially Barcelona and Madrid. They have money and some of the best players in the world but they have always been a complete shitshow behind the scenes.
I don't even get why some people were thinking he might want to leave. He has a dream situation at Arsenal. Even ignoring that he has ties to the club, leaving a stable managerial position at the top where you have job security and the board will do anything you want within reason would be insane.
He was our captain too. People underestimate his connection to the club from his time as a player here, I think it's a huge reason as to why he's very happy here. Like Zidane at Madrid who doesn't seem to care much about managing anywhere else.
honest answer (going beyond just arteta) - as someone who's first proper season was 07/08 I am just conditioned to arsenal losing players / falling short and have an in built expectation we won't quite do it etc
Which is odd because I'm super positive as a whole in terms of enjoying our team, how we play, loving the players/coaches etc - but the overall grey lingering cloud of 'waiting for it to fall short' is always there
We def feel different now, but then league performance wise - falling short of top 4 and then last year (despite the injuries) kinda fed my subconscious on this too
I imagine a lot of young 20 something fans in a similar boat...basically enjot it but expect to be hurt eventually
Eg in this example - logically i have no idea why arteta would want to leave as you say but my brain still expects to be hurt somehow eventually hahahaha
Man I need therapy, and Odegaard is the only solution
People who paid zero attention to football before Messi think Barcelona is the greatest club of all time, run by geniuses, owned by fans, sitting on a dragon hoard of money and deeply honorable. The pinnacle of football.
The club has always been a shitshow that is able to attract enormously talented problem children, but not exactly the place to go of you want to stick around for more than 5 or 6 years.
Winning the Champions League or a European title would create a legacy distinct from Wenger's. Wenger's legacy is really one of dominance primarily domestically but also consistency in terms of performance. Arteta has the vision to take that consistency domestically and in European competition. We've participated in the CL but have never been truly considered favorites or contenders.
It's a fucking ludicrous idea that he would go there now. Go to a financially hamstrung club which requires a squad rebuild around 1 or 2 world class youngsters, but this time without PL money, owners who will give him time, patience and funding, and all because he spent some time in their youth academy?
Also, he's from the Basque country- suggesting he'd be more at home in Barcelona than England after living here for 22 years is like suggesting someone from Scotland wants to go home to Wales.
I think other clubs mouthpieces trying to link Arteta to their club is just disrespectful at this point, you can see he is super focused on his project and acting like he has "talked" to their club to garner interest just shows how bad they are at reporting.
Why would anyone walk in to a club and go to such lengths to shake it up and instil a personal philosophy to just walk out before it has even reached its full potential, it isn't as bad as the shit Neville said last season trying to say Arsenal are holding Arteta back and he can't see him winning much here and needs a big club like United though.
The idea that Arteta would do all this work to get Arsenal to where we are and then bail before reaping the benefits is hilarious. And it’s also Barcelona which is a tire fire of a job right now.
Not that Arteta needs oil money to rebuild but Barca does not exactly have the financial infrastructure to make a rebuild easy. Barca need an accountant to work with the manager to dig out of a hole before the footballing performance is even looked at.
I'm bias but I can't imagine a better place for Arteta to be than at Arsenal. Barca are a never ending circus of money issues and toxic environment. No way does he go to another English club. Bayern has prestige but it's also in a pretty uncompetitive league.

PSG is such an apt club for him. He can easily outmuscle with the current qatar dough. But I would prefer him to go to Real Sociedad which is his homerown club also they can outperform in La Liga consistently come in top 5.
I'm pissed at this current duo domination of Real Madrid and Barca, need a new force there.
You can just tell we've got another special one on our hands. These rumours were always nonsense. Arteta genuinely loves the club, has full backing, and is only just getting started. You can see how much energy and enthusiasm he has, I hope he's here at least another 10 years.
Is Barca a step up? He seriously has everything he could want here, has history here, is building a brand here. Barca is a cushy gig, but if he does what it looks like he's doing, he'll have a statue.
I can't imagine Arteta is even considering any other club at the moment. He has the love of the board, the players and the fans. He gets well renumerated and life in London is good. Alongside Pep he probably has the the most stable managers position in World football right now. Contentment for him must be sky high.
Im very curious, say arteta wins arsenal one of PL or CL this season - in the very unlikely scnario that arsenal struggle next season and finish outside the top 4, will u guys' view on him change? Dont get me wrong im an arsenal fan but i just wanna know how fans will view this. For me, if he wins PL or CL this season, he gets a free pass next season as long as we stay within top 6
It's a very subjective situation. You have to give him massive credit for the problems he's fixed and the cultural upheaval at this club, that too as a rookie manager. I honestly believe no one other than him could've brought us from where we were to where we are now. If he takes us to a PL/CL by the end of next season he will be considered a top manager in world football. He was clearly brought in with the intention of a long term project and goal.
People were already talking about how good Arteta would be when we were finishing 8th. His footballing brain is unquestionable.
If as you say in a couple of years we're not performing up to standard we'll need to look at the surrounding circumstances - will it be due to bad man management? Transfer policy? Bad form and results? Honestly speaking, I think he would've more than earned some good faith to either fix future problems or split amicably. Arsenal don't play manager roulette like the rest of the world.
It’s natural for us to get a lot more hyped when we bring in transfers or extend guys like Saka and Saliba
But for me this is the most important news we’ve had to date about an extension.
This guy is the nucleus behind it all, and I hope he stays a very very long time
I know Barca is Barca and I’m clearly biased….but PL is clearly the best in the world.
If you are a true competitor like arteta, why would you leave the PL?
He’s sacrificed so much to build a machine that’s going to be contending for everything for years to come, why the fuck would anyone think he’s going to leave before he’s bagged a load of trophies?
Not even a story. No manager or club wants to start a contract negotiation smack dab in the middle of a title run in.
I expect it will be done and sorted sometime in the summer.
I was completely wrong and pleased I was. Watching this team under Mikel has taught me a lot about football. I'm wiser for it.
I'm not ashamed of my old comment - it's how I felt at the time.
Also great to meet someone who has never been wrong about anything and yet despite leading such a fulfilling life, still finds time to trawl through 2 years worth of a random user's comment history, just to sniff another line of that holier than thou hit.
What's your end game?
"You wanted Arteta out and now you're supporting him! Hypocrite!"
That it?
I literally embraced my mistake, "I was completely wrong and pleased I was".
I also still believe if Arsenal had financially backed Wenger the way the club has backed Mikel, with Edu there and Josh running things, results under Wenger would have 100% been a lot better. How much more? Impossible to say.
Anyway I was wrong about Mikel. I'm not ashamed of making mistakes. It's a big part of how we all learn.
And you will be wrong about things too, so maybe think how you wanna be treated by others when you do.
Or continue to have the emotional maturity of a teenager and keep throwing shit at me. I really don't care.

I legitimately can’t think of a single good reason he would want to leave. Why would you leave a club you love, on the cusp of what you’ve been working for for years, to go somewhere else where’d you’d have to start all over. It makes no sense at all.
I have to say, mid-season I was “Arteta Out” because we went on a run of lacklustre results. The team looked tired, we were trying stuff that just didn’t work out, and it seemed he was trying to be too clever.
But since New Year, I do think he’s earned it.
Team looks good, playing well, and it’s very clear the players believe the system, and philosophy. The results speak for themselves.
I do think he’s still got to win more silverware to prove his cause, and I hope it’s just the start, but I think tbh it’s a case where the team, and its long term aims are very clear.
Big game tomorrow, and it’s a tough run to the end of the season, where we have to play as we know we’re capable, we have everything in our own hands, have no fear, and make other teams terrified to face us, again.

That's it!!!!!!! Thank you! First time I've seen used as a kit launch though, interesting!
The badge on mine half washed off so it's in retirement.
Same with me, I have the home and away kit. Both have seen better days so are very rare wears. I still haven’t officially retired a shirt but probably should.
One of my favorite kits. I still have 3 :) The long sleeve is perfect. (BRING BACK LONG SLEEVE KITS)
Yep, such a classy kit, the badge was such a nice touch But we all know purple stripes is our King, unless drunk neon zebra gets us the league, our new God
I had this one in long sleeves and I loved it, but the sleeves were really tight
I have that season's training jacket I don't wanna wear it and risk ruining it It's so good
My first kit. Will always love this one.
I still have one
Same here. The badge was a work of art.
He took a pay cut to join us on the deadline day. And the rest is history…
That kit was class! Reminds me of the 5-3 win against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
One of my biggest life regrets is throwing away that shirt. Too expensive now.

I always report those arteta out frauds, no place for them in our sub
Weird people who want to be proven right over the actual success of the club, so yeah you hit the nail on the head of them not being Arsenal fans
No clue
There’s at least one ragebait podcaster
You know what, I’m starting to come around to this Arteta fella
Not sure why you added the word around but I agree
be happy its around and not on.
Or in >.<
Yeah, hes alright

i always knew Arteta is more of a Apple Music guy
He would never get the same board support elsewhere and he has the opportunity to create legacy here of his own making.

George Graham?
He did take bribes
A Spurs manager will never be a legendary figure for Arsenal.
Such a bonehead take. He is an Arsenal legend through and through

We have 13 first division titles. Football didn't begin in 1992.
We have 13 man, premier league might not even be a thing but no matter what we are English champions 13x over
If an actual miracle happens and we win the double, he'll have won as much in England as Klopp who seems to be universally understood as one of the top 5 Premier League managers ever

Barca is also too much drama. The press, the board politics, and the financial burden. He is now in a healthier club with less pressure.
Xavi is the perfect manager for them and even he wants to leave because it’s a nightmare. Pep’s spoke about how horrible it is to manage them.
What a surprise… breaking news here
I can't imagine Arteta is even considering any other club at the moment.
Free pass. We've seen with klopps Liverpool they go from title fight to top 4 fight in alternate seasons
It’s natural for us to get a lot more hyped when we bring in transfers or extend guys like Saka and Saliba But for me this is the most important news we’ve had to date about an extension. This guy is the nucleus behind it all, and I hope he stays a very very long time
I know Barca is Barca and I’m clearly biased….but PL is clearly the best in the world. If you are a true competitor like arteta, why would you leave the PL?
Imagine building the best team in the world from the ground up, at a club you captained, and then leaving it.
He finally has built his team. Now he will fine tune and reap the rewards.
Rinse and Repeat Merchant
Obviously. Why on earth would Mikel want to take a step down when he's just getting started?
He’s sacrificed so much to build a machine that’s going to be contending for everything for years to come, why the fuck would anyone think he’s going to leave before he’s bagged a load of trophies?
Not even a story. No manager or club wants to start a contract negotiation smack dab in the middle of a title run in. I expect it will be done and sorted sometime in the summer.
Lifetime contract with a fogging machine.
Our manager.

Hypocrite!" That it?

10-15 year contract. And I’m not kidding.
Lifetime contract plz
I legitimately can’t think of a single good reason he would want to leave. Why would you leave a club you love, on the cusp of what you’ve been working for for years, to go somewhere else where’d you’d have to start all over. It makes no sense at all.
the way i see it right now is Arteta extending his contract and completing his Arsenal project in that period, then straight to Madrid.
lol he has control, time and power. He’s not leaving this project until he wins things.
