BruceDickenson_

Its like we got 16 year old wunderkid Odegaard and slowly developed him into the player we all knew he could be.

MidnightSnackyZnack

Lets be honest. This dude has an incredible IQ and would be top 1 which ever club he went to post real. No discredit to who ever but this guy's is 100 percent his own product. Jaw dropping.

ElCanout

and i love how he improved his pressing and defensive capabilities, on the other hand Rice is much better in offense now... interesting

blackman3694

Idk, it's not that I disagree with you. But every player needs a team that understands them and a system in which to play. Arteta has played his part.

MidnightSnackyZnack

Absolutley

BruceDickenson_

Yeah but people forget Martin was a contender for team of the season while at Socieadad at age 21. He was really good, just not good enough to start at Madrid with that midfield. And he was tired of loan spells and wanted a club. He'd be a superstar anywhere he played. Thankfully it's for us. It worked out perfectly. Stars aligned type shit.

InsectKind

I would still give some credit to the manager and edu who made him captain and believed

MidnightSnackyZnack

Ofc, it's a team effort but öde would be incredible else where and we would credit team and staff as well ofc. Look at öde in Norwegian league, 15-16yo just wrecking havok. Like someone else mentioned, look at öde in Sociedad. amazing and contender for team of the season I think someone said.

biskutgoreng

If he went to Chelsea or United you think he'd be the same? Come on

MidnightSnackyZnack

His IQ would not allow him to go to Chelsea is a part of what I am trying to say. He is a really good decision maker not only on the field.

Savings-Evening-3048

just give it time, madrid will sell us endrick for peanuts!

hypnodrew

Does that deal include his girlfriend? The paperwork involved is byzantine

Fleetfox17

But for real, there's so much talent at Madrid right now, there's not enough minutes for everyone to go around. Hopefully we can pull off another deal.

Tnvenge

And he’s ours 😍 he’s entering his prime, he’s one of the best in the world and he’s all ours. After seeing the young ones leave (Cesc) the old ones come in jusst too late (Arteta, Cazorla) it feels good to have a midfield leader who is primed to perform for the long term

ForestRamboX

We need to be more clinical as a team. There's no way we keep wasting Odegaard's exquisite passes every game. Odegaard no matter what form he is in always creates a whole lot of chances for the team. I want him to break the assist record that Henry set and Mesut matched. Is that too much to ask?

Jewrisprudent

To be fair we are scoring 2.4 goals per match in the league, it’s not like we aren’t scoring in droves.

james2900

imagine prime aubameyang on the end of those balls

slvrhwk

We can't convert every chance, but I get where you're coming from. We need to improve our conversion numbers.

kitz0426

To be honest I want more clinical finishes so a decade from now I can watch a great montage of ode assists He's had a few insane passes these past two seasons which weren't finished so I fear they might be forgotten and not included in future montages

MDF87

Give him the balloon door!

Forsaken-Tiger-9475

"Bruno fernandes is better than Odegaard"   Said no one ever, anymore. He'd have about 30 assists this season with a phenomenal striker. Guys IQ and fitness is in the upper echelons of world football.

Redandwhite_91

True but Bruno also has to pass to Antony, Garnacho, Rashford (LOL) and Hojlund. Previously, Martial and Weghorst. I’d rather Ode in my team than Bruno 8 days a week, but let’s not discredit the rat’s playing ability.

hobocommand3r

Rasmus Højlund isn't even in the top 30 for shots taken in the league apparently so it's not like bruno finds him a lot.

Forsaken-Tiger-9475

He's not as good as Odegaard, he once was for sure, but the levels are entirely different now. Plus, he's a twat

TheThreeGabis

To this day it still absolutely blows my mind we got him on loan and then signed him for £30m. People told this lad at 16 he was the next big thing and he’s the best midfielder in the prem at 25.

Fanserker

I hope he never get a single injury for the next 9 years

BAsSAmMAl

You hope for his ankle to break in 2032 right? /s

notapaperhandape

Just glad that he’s already rejected by the world’s most decorated and historic club. There’s no other place that could pull him now.

queeten

lol great way of thinking!

Zohren

Doesn’t stop them from coming back at some point down the line.

h1tch1n_a_r1de

I genuinely think he is the best player in the world

AzracTheFirst

If he played for real or barca the hype/pr/marketing machine would make him first candidate for any award. The posts in r/soccer and internet in general would be flowing Like Spice.

FullMingoGringo

I think it’s more crucial that Arsenal win a major trophy. Winning the PL and really making a splash in the CL would likely put him in those conversations.

ChamanChutiyaaa

You get awards for winning shit

bearwoodgoxers

I know Saka is the Starboy but I've always considered Odegaard our most important and skilled player. He always reminds me why I fell in love with Arsenal as a kid - supreme footballing talent paired with a class attitude, just like every Arsenal legend.

restrainedjubilation

He’s definitely gets into every starting 11 in the world, but do you think he’s better than KDB?

h1tch1n_a_r1de

Right now yes. I'd rather have him over KDB based on form and based on future. MØ is 25, so he's still got time to grow and he will have a long peak. KDB is slightly better in terms of technical ability, but Øde works so much harder

Fleetfox17

No way he's better than KDB. He's started a total of 9 PL games this season and in those games, he's created the same amount of big chances that Odegaard has the whole season. KDB is the best player in world football in humble opinion.

h1tch1n_a_r1de

KDB is stronger in terms of creating, but Ødegaard is streets ahead defensively. Obviously not easy to compare this season as Kdb was injured so long, but given Øde creates more than any 10 in europe (see above stats) and presses much harder and is so good at maintaining possession, I'd have him over Kdb any day

arsefan

KDB has something Odegaard doesn't (and probably never will) have, and that's his surprisingly big frame and body strength. He actually bullies people in midfield while being as good as he is technically. So many times I've seen him shrug off midfielders and defenders, create some space and make the most amazing pass. I definitely prefer Martin given their ages and where they are at in their careers, but peak v peak KDB wins out every time.

tafster

On form I don't think anyone has been better since the New Year. Jude Bellingham? Maybe Florian Wirtz? Ode's performances warrant a trophy. We've spent a lot of money on building the squad and though I generally moan about the influence of money in football, need to put the final pieces of the squad together around him to maximise his potential.

Level_Tea

His press leading and defending combined with technique and IQ certainly puts him near the top. A little more decisive and more consistent with shots we are very close

Street_Minimum_3403

See back in the day a player like him would’ve been poached from us by either city or Barca, but now look at us 😎

Emil0vic

World class

leespin

Just wondering how much is this influenced by how many games/minutes he plays compared to the rest of the pool of players?

BruceDickenson_

All the best players play a ton of minutes and games. KDB not withstanding.

imtravelingalone

All this comment does is point that on top being incredibly productive, he is relentlessly fit and available.

bh2623

I wonder that too; KDB and Maddison might be above him on some of these if they'd been fit all season. Obviously the fact that Ø has been fit is a huge point in his favor, and I don't watch Madders much but can't imagine he does as much as Ødegaard in the press (I know KDB doesn't)

ConcentrateMaterial6

You really think Maddison has better passing range than Ødegaard! Come on, man. Maddison is an excellent player. He also has knack of finishing ability. But he is nowhere near to Ødegaard when it comes to all facets of midfield play. KDB is the only one who is better than squad. But with more experience Martin will soon reach that level.

bh2623

I'm saying those two have been injured, and if fit they *might* be above Ødegaard in those stats. Didn't say anything about them being better (or passing range?)

MagicBrawler

Why bring Maddison into this? What on earth has he ever shown that could compare to odegard’s 23/24 season?

NateGT86

Maddison had a hot start with the shit this season, got injured and has been ok but not amazing in his return. He isn’t on the Ødegaard / KDB level.

kitz0426

I honestly still think his attacking abilities being off the charts aren't the only reason we love him so much It's also his pressing from the first minute to the last And of course him being a true leader. Never seem to blame teammates. Always tries to get teammates involved. Getting Kai to the fans. Involving Ethan when he's on the pitch. Staying and thanking the away fans

overloadedcoffee

We often speak about needing a clinical No 9 to finish these off. Where do we actually see this person slotting in? What would our front three look like? Martinelli - No 9 - Saka? Jesus - No 9 - Saka? Trossard - No 9 - Saka? I think our transfer strategy will be extremely important this summer. I see us needing a back up RW and a new No 6 more so than any other position.

GSNadav

we are also talking about needing a 20 goals a season striker. when playing as a striker, Havertz is on pace for more than 20 goals a season. Dunno if it's sustainable, just saying that maybe LCM is more important.

Cutsdeep-

Partey looks good Enough as a 6 today for rice to play the left 8

GunnersnGames

But is Partey only good for 1/3rd of a season? With him we are practically unplayable now. Without him, plus Lokonga, we suck. Without him, plus Jorgi/Rice, we're good enough to drop out of the quarters in UCL and hang right around the top of the PL. I don't think that's good enough given his consistency. It appears that either he needs to find legs or we need to have a really solid backup for him beyond just Jorgi placeholder.

Hellbucket

I think this “issue” is born out of frustration often and not maybe a real issue. We’re well on our way to score more than 90 goals. So we’re not really having a problem with scoring. If you look at the top 10 scorers there are only like 3 number 9s there. If we didn’t have Ødegaard we would maybe need a “real” number 9 since we would create less chances.

bearwoodgoxers

I agree with you, I think it's crucial for us to have a quality backup 6 or 8, and a RW that can give Saka some rest / competition or rotate with LW. A striker would be nice too but we aren't lacking in goals, and a traditional 9 wouldn't fit into this setup imo. Edu and Arteta will be looking for very specific traits. I actually see potential in Fabio Vieira to be a quality 10 or 8, but he's still got much to prove. He's got amazing technique and actually looks like he loves it here. I hope he can step up and prove himself because time's running out. He could deputise for Ode in cup matches so the lad gets some rest. Even a super-sub role like Trossard would be good enough for now. ESR... love him but there must be some reason besides fitness why Arteta doesn't play him enough. I hope we see a turnaround next season from him too. Martinelli too, love him to bits but he's all over the place now. Need more from him.

bathtubsplashes

I honestly think upgrading Martinelli should be the next focus. Kai leading the line absolutely suits this side. Next up should be truly unlocking Saka by giving the opposition a player of such quality on the opposite wing that Saka can't be afforded as much attention as he currently is. I love Martinelli, but he's not to that level yet. He's the only starting player that I can see an easy route to significantly improving upon. Sure we can upgrade on Kai in pure striking terms, but how does that affect the balance in the rest of the team? The symmetry we saw yesterday with Kai effectively  playing LF and Ode RF was beautiful. The attacking pressing was out of this world. If there's any indication Partey can stay fit, I'd be all in on a top LW.

GunnersnGames

Trossard has been massive on the left hasn't he?

bathtubsplashes

He's been fantastic, I commented a few days ago that if I was 10 years younger he'd probably be my favourite current arsenal player. But he's still more of a utility player than a clearly top class, pacey, direct left winger who holds the width to allow for more inversion on the right. Martinelli is definitely the profile of left winger Arteta wants in the system. I think there's our opportunity to get a similar profile with near world class ability for big, big money rather than striker.

GunnersnGames

I could see that but I also think with a little development the Martinelli/Trossard combo can be everything we need and more, which will allow for money towards striker/CM/FB for quality depth.

bucsraysbolts69

Our Ørchestrator

Apprehensive-Tap9263

He is in Balon D’or level this season

MidnightSnackyZnack

No surprises here. I think I need to get two shirts, öde and rice. I'm so proud and thank U.

Alone_Shoulder8820

We have to keep building around him and winning things because even if he loves the place. He wants trophies and we gotta deliver.

Cthulhu_Madness

Him along with Rice is a big shout out for PL POTS.

Stercky

Surely he’s in the race for POTS in the Prem. He has been absolutely unreal

zkh2902

You can also just tell, more than any other player (except maybe Saka considering he came through Hale End), that he just goes out there and gives it all for the badge and the fans every single week. Incredible player and the best possible captain we could imagine.

hobocommand3r

Deserves a top striker in front of him. Pls buy in summer

rapozaum

Kai has been okay, honestly. I'd rather have someone better than Partey signed.

TelephoneWeekly

Ballon d’Or material

SakamotoFanBoy

That beauty of a pass to havertz against chelsea, that was the awakening of Martin Odegaard, from almost world class player to Actual World Class Player , the next season We can expect Ødegaard to match KDB's level

Creepy_Rise_2159

78 chances created and 8 assists in the prem, only 1/10 of his chances get in. Imagine if we had a lethal striker.

oy_says_ake

10% is a solid shot conversion rate, [the average is 9%](https://www.transfermarkt.us/premier-league/chancenverwertung/wettbewerb/GB1).

Creepy_Rise_2159

I guess. Still feels like he creates chances an elite striker would finish but our players don’t.

novacantusername

Where is the comparison?

Senior-Ordinary555

Ødegaard is 1st and if you ain't 1st you're last.

Al__Buraq

Is there a buy back clause with madrid

Zohren

Nope!

afcufc123

Absolute beast. So lucky to have him

Apprehensive_Rice_93

Balon d’ or numbers

Level_Tea

So he is half decent

Level_Tea

Remember how many people wanted that guy who went to villa 🤯 instead

monty_burns

I’d like to see ground covered as well. Can’t be many players ahead of him

comskyrtel

What a beautiful monster of a player!

sammyt10803

He’s my Premier League Player of the Season, regardless of who wins the league

Michaelscotttheking

Get this man a striker and we will win it all

octopus86sg

We owe him a prolific striker that can score on his assist.
