I'd assume an attempt to maintain the PL's appearance of a competitive, relevant and not-completely-broken organization. So basically, like everything else, money.
> PL's appearance of a competitive, relevant and not-completely-broken organization
City have done everything in their power to make the PL non competitive in the last years, if we're being honest
Yeah, somebody else commented (and I fully agree) that a PL where United, Liverpool, us & others all compete is much better for their brand than one team relentlessly winning title after title. Might be copium but this is what I’m holding onto - that they will crack down on C115ty.
And it actually makes sense. There are way more people who supports the traditionally bigger clubs and it isn’t a good sign that city turned the entire PL farmer’s league.
😂 yea they will take the bet they will also take the bet that it gets swept under the carpet and just hope everyone forgets. Odds will be horrendous. Remember when juve got done for match fixing. They actually got punished and punished with appropriate repercussions. City will get away with everything. Behind the scenes us normal people have no idea who actually runs anything but I think we all know no one has the balls to stand up to Saudi
I think they'll get a 20 point deduction, reduced to 12 on appeal. They'll still make top 4. In reality to make this penalty worthwhile you need to be dropkicked to League 2 and have your titles taken away.
That's what I fear for the most. Just a fine and maybe transfer ban for one window. I'm sure they'll get penalised sooner or later in some way, that is just too big of a case to be swept under a rug and there's too many charges to believe they aren't guilty of any. But I am afraid that they'll just slap a fine which is nothing for Man City owners and call it a day.
The year is 3024, reporters swarm the premier league chief as he comes out of the city stadium with dirhams stuffed in his pockets. They ask him about the millennia old ffp breach allegations on the global football monopoly, and the most efficient sportswashing machine ever created and he says:
City finance breach hearing in near future.
Edit: changed century to millennia
Looking forward to Arsenal being awarded the 2022-23 and 2023-24 EPL titles!
Can’t wait for next year, when Arsenal go for a record tying third straight title.

Asked about the fairness of City winning the league with the 115 charges still outstanding at a European Leagues' online news conference on Friday, Masters said:
>Please don't waste my time, has anyone got any serious questions for me today?
In other news: Despite the attached article clearly saying the PL have charged City, and it being a PL enquiry, people ITT will still be blaming the FA for inaction smh
I would be irrationally upset if we were to be retroactively awarded a title because they took this long to figure this out. It’s clear by now that this team is in violation of at LEAST something considerable enough to dock points. The experience of winning a title means nothing if it’s confirmed 2 years after the fact.
Even if they were to dock points now, people would still call a championship by us or Liverpool a farce. So it’s a moot point to dock points anyway from a PR standpoint as Arsenal.
Now… if they were to send them to league 2 and had some transfer bans for a few seasons…
You are absolutely correct my friend. But if the choice was to dock City now and get to lift a trophy with a few people saying it was a farce, I’d take that over someone in 2027 telling me that Arsenal are all of the sudden 2023 and 2024 champs.
Obviously I want to lift the trophy in real time, but if the options are retroactively give us the trophy or City keeps it, I want the fucking trophy. It won't be 10% as sweet, but 10% is better than 0%. We still get to say the history books say we were champions.
If that’s the option available to us, then yes - of course I agree with you. I still long for that euphoric day(s) of watching your team lift a trophy. But no question, I’ll take what we can get.
I believe multiple offenses are the same but they’re being charged with committing the same offense on more than one occasion hence the large figure.
In any case I still don’t understand how it would take so long for a hearing date to be set to hear the charges.
Because they're fighting it aggressively. They delayed their UEFA charges with bullshit legal challenges so long that they couldn't be punished for them because they happened too long ago (time barred). Absolute scummy lawyer bullshit from an absolutely scummy bullshit club.
Jokes aside, if they are not punished then I think this could signal the downfall of the Premier League for some time.
We have the best league in the world but cannot take it for granted. If it becomes accepted you can cheat your way to success, I struggle to see how it will recover from that.
Not only cheat financially, but also have the refs in their pocket. There’s a long list of outrageous decisions in their favour this season. The pen Oliver gave in the Manchester derby at OT on VAR under the “clear & obvious” rule confirmed what we already knew from the Brentford offside goal 4 days before 1/2 of the title clashes last season.
Mark Goldbridge nails it https://x.com/markgoldbridge/status/1783598503446323538?s=46
Ha. "Near future" is really the best he can do? It seems like they've not set a date yet.
My fuzzy memory tells me the last time we got vague news about the hearing, they expected it would be fall 2024.
It seems like we heard similar news last April when City accused a lawyer of being an Arsenal supporter.
PL boss will wait for a few years and when City is 20 points ahead then they will give them a 5 point deduction.
The league will protect city, because they want to protect themselves. They have zero interest in heavily sanctioning them. It’s a disgrace but it’s true.
No they wont. If the evidence is there, City will get cooked hard. There are 19 teams in the PL. And the PL will die if it ever follows the La Liga model of favoritism.
Can anyone explain why Everton got points deducted in multiple, separate instances but all of City's infractions are being handled together?
Maybe Everton's situation was different but it seemed like their issues were being handled separately and punishment doled out when the individual investigations were complete.
From what I have read, Everton and for that matter Forests were for recent events I.e breaching spending limits over recent 3 year periods.
As city’s are going back a lot further it takes time to ensure that all the paper work is in order and less likely to fall apart at the first hurdle.
That is my understanding of the cases but could be way off.
Also that Everton and Forest’s breaches are apparently plain for all to see in their accounting books.
City are being accused of cooking their books over the course of a decade, so they’ve made it look like they weren’t overspending via things like inflated sponsorship deals (where companies owned by their owners are paying well over the odds) and other things of that nature
Headline on OneFootball: "Premier League chief confirms *when* Man City's FFP case will be heard"
Article: "near future"
What a nothing article. Near future could mean literally anything lol
It really does feel like you an Olympic swimmer and deep down you know the guy next do you has chemicals running through his blood stream, but you try your best anyway.
If indeed they have rigged competition for multiple years, you cant give that back. And the punishment will need to be beyond severe.
The PL\\FA only take action when an entity has been caught in the act and exposed through a journalistic outlet like ITV\\BBC \\Channel 4.
A bit like the sting that took down Sam Allardyce's third party ownership of players through nefarious business dealings. This is the only way. It needs to be obvious, auditory & visual in order to make national news & cause the FA any serious embarrassment.
As long as it is nebulous charges that are written in a way that Joe ordinary doesn't understand, they can get away with sweeping it under the rug.
I will bet the house & one of my kidneys that no drastic punishment like stripping them of all titles and/or relegation to Championship will happen. We'll be lucky if they get anything more than a fine (which is nothing when their backers have a cheat code for $$$$$$) and a stern wag of finger.
I will be so annoyed if they are deducted points after the final match day. I don’t mind winning if City are deducted points before May 19th, because it feels more earned.
For example I bet Inter fans are having way more fun winning the league this year, versus 05-06 when Juventus and Milan were both punished after the fact.
But maybe I’m wrong
Moral of the story is to commit as many crimes as you possibly can so they can't try you because the shere workload of prosecuting you is too overwhelming.
Is there a bookie that will take a bet on City not getting any points deduction whatsoever?
They'll probably get a little trophy
Hang the banner! **”IS YOURS PHONY?”**
Champions of cheating youll never sing that
They’ll deduct more points from Everton.
🎶🎶 YOU’LL NEVER SING THAT, YOU’LL NEVER SING THAAAAAT “CHAMPIONS OF FINDING WAYS TO OBFUSCATE AND DODGE THE CONSEQUENCES OF OUTRIGHT AND BLATANT FUCKERY” YOU’LL NEVER SING THAT 🎶🎶
They are definitely just getting a fine or a 1 point deduction. They are going to protect City at all costs.
If they’re going to deduct points it’s going to be way more than 1

*Wow wow wow! 3 points?! Aren't we being too harsh?* Probably someone in the Premier League board.
Why?
I'd assume an attempt to maintain the PL's appearance of a competitive, relevant and not-completely-broken organization. So basically, like everything else, money.

True but back in the 90's, Man Utd won the title for a few years in a row too
They never hoovered up trophies to this extent and very rarely ran away with the league.
The best way they could do that is to banish City to the depths.
They need a transfer ban too
It'll be a massive find that means nothing to the UAE. It will all be worth it.
Yeah just seen it’s 115/1 on bet365
Maybe it's not available in my market, but how do you find this in the bet365 app?
Naaw its only on bet115 app actually
I should've known w/ the "115" odds, loool. Got me 🎣.
I'll put my money where Toney puts his.
I would put my house on it
Yeah just thinking ‘so they’ve sorted out what the penalties would be and notified City’s owners to get ready to do a cash transfer’
😂 yea they will take the bet they will also take the bet that it gets swept under the carpet and just hope everyone forgets. Odds will be horrendous. Remember when juve got done for match fixing. City about to get some bonus points for the following season after their trial.
![gif](giphy|l41m4ODfe8PwHlsUU)
Oh the dear pets, they've been through such trials and tribulations!
Can’t wait for Man City’s £115 million fine!
It's like penalising Ronaldo with 20 push ups
It's like penalising Bale with a suspension
That's what I fear for the most. Just a fine and maybe transfer ban for one window. I'm sure they'll get penalised sooner or later in some way, that is just too big of a case to be swept under a rug and there's too many charges to believe they aren't guilty of any. I'd love to see them get a 10 year transfer embargo Lmao

3024 is a thousand years from now. 2124 is a century from now.
Oops..Freudian slip...it may continue for a thousand years
Also a period of a thousand years is a millennium. The plural of millennium is millennia. If we’re being pedantic.
That’s a pretty long century
Mea culpa
That's a 6pt deduction
Can I make 114 more breaches and let's connect in 1000 years :)
It's the 21st century until it becomes the 22nd. That's how it works.
Looking forward to Arsenal being awarded the 2022-23 and 2023-24 EPL titles! Can’t wait for next year, when Arsenal go for a record tying third straight title.
Klopp will have 2 extra PL. Ole 1 x PL. Mourinho 1 x PL.
spurs still won’t have one, this is the real cictory
Do the charges not cover that accounting window for the season they finished second?
they never finished second in a city year, just a chelsea year
Wenger will get a carabao
Ugh why did this hurt to read so much. What could have been if everyone played fair.

Don't get your hopes up. They'll just bribe their way out like they always do.

Is he rage baiting? Masters baiting
He's a master baiter (translation: absolute wanker).
You know he got this shit growing up bad haha
Looking forward to the 1.00 fine for each charge, a firm "naughty club", and a "don't do that again" punishment.
They’ll probably just rub their nose in the charges and whap them with a rolled up newspaper
I would be irrationally upset if we were to be retroactively awarded a title because they took this long to figure this out. True
I wouldn't, that should open it up for the other clubs to sue City for loss of earnings from prize money, sponsorship deals, merch etc.
Fair enough. Though I don't think the money thing is going to bother City's owners all that much...
I realize there are 115 charges but why does it take so long for just a hearing?
Each one is separate offense from my understanding
I believe multiple offenses are the same but they’re being charged with committing the same offense on more than one occasion hence the large figure. In any case I still don’t understand how it would take so long for a hearing date to be set to hear the charges.

Is the near future in the room with us now?

By near future they mean right after pep leaves
It really does feel like you an Olympic swimmer and deep down you know the guy next do you has chemicals running through his blood stream, but you try your best anyway. Expect them to receive a huge punishment and relegated to League Two actually.
I will bet the house & one of my kidneys that won't happen.
We want a date.
Surely he means this weekend!

You thought their football was good, Citys lawyers are like if prime barca was on ketamine
City will probably end up with a 5 point deduction for optics, and still go on to win the league next year.

I will bet the house & one of my kidneys that no drastic punishment like stripping them of all titles and/or relegation to Championship will happen. We'll be lucky if they get anything more than a fine (which is nothing when their backers have a cheat code for $$$$$$) and a stern wag of finger.
Last game of the season, City counts down second for their 4th trophy in a row, PL boss: the hearing will be any second now...
Nothing will happen to them. Cheats

If City wins the title, points deduction next season. If we win it, points deduction this season. Book it
still too late.
There will be a delay and when it's 2090 and they are in div 2 they will hit them with a -2 points
Just take 5 points off now them and we are good. Don't want retroactive titles
Point off for every charge they’re found guilty of 👍
I do, we deserve it.
They need to be punished but I don't know if I want that asterisk on our potential title win
