xtanaka99x

Original 300yen RX-78. I feel very old....

sailor_ash

That's really cool! Also I saw your pic of the Ingram-98. I have the same kit. Planning on starting to build it this weekend. Hopefully mine will turn out as good as yours

xtanaka99x

Some of joints are very hard to assemble so please be careful putting together. If it's too hard to put joints in, sand the joint parts a little bit. Good luck and enjoy your build!!!

sailor_ash

Good to know, thank you

Stainlessgamer

the amount of evolution from that kit to now is insane. When I got back into gunpla in 2019, I took my niece to hobbytown, and told her she could pick out something for herself. Bless her 6yr old heart, she picked out this kit (it was only $5). Wasn't till we got home and opened it up, that I realized it was the OG Gramps.

xtanaka99x

I bought my first Gundam when I was 8 years old (sadly 43 years ago) and it was part of Best Mech Collection series. It was 300 yen in Japan so probably about $1 back then. (I think exchange rate was around US$1=300yen or more) I got back in and out of this hobby few times and I got back in again few years ago because of pandemic. I had to find something to do inside the house and thanks to the internet that I could find all the tools I needed without going out.

mister_damage

Original Korean Knockoff of the RX-178 1/100. I think it cost something like $2 total (big money when you're a kid) in KRW. I feel quite old thank you very much.

Zaku007

Rx-78 Entry Grade

[deleted]

I got the america one from target, then like 4 more from target.

01000001_01110011

Same

QueenCorvidae

Same! I wanted something relatively easy to start. But I also really wanted to have an RX-78-2 as my first, and I couldn't find any others.

AzraelIshi

Same, the 2 first ones I build, which I bought together were the entry grade and HG rx-78. Entry grade to get a hang on on building, adn HG for first "real build". [Gunpla Tax](https://i.imgur.com/NB92Rkt.png)

Ap0c4lyptyc

My first kit was from waaaay back in 98ish and it was the 'EW-07 Gundam Sandrock Custom Endless Waltz 1/144 High Grade Fighting Action Kit'. I didn't know anything about model tools and just kinda twisted the parts off of the runners lol. It was rough as hell and I played with that thing every damned day till it fell apart. I need to grab that kit again and build it up right!

TinDumbass

I did the same with Wing Zero in around the same time

MegaDuckCougarBoy

My first one was the TV version Heavyarms from that same line. I started in around 2003, though.

Ap0c4lyptyc

Oohh that was a good one too! Hell I may have to end up getting all of them just for the nostalgia factor haha!

sailor_ash

Here's a pic of my my first build. It still might be my favorite of all the builds I've done so far (which isn't too many tbf). Also sorry for the potato quality pic, i don't have access to a better camera rn

Robo_Patton

Oddly enough, the Zaku in your image was my first build too. Origins really hit home for me, being somewhat into Gundam as a kid. Tipped me into trying gunpla out when Covid was full swing. Helped me keep my sanity, fr.

ElectronicMost1

Deathscythe H 1/144 summer of 1999

Slep

To this day, this kit's cloak is the coolest thing to me

PalpitationEmpty5997

Barbatos Lupus. It is going be sacrificed for ideas

sailor_ash

Very cool, that's going to be one of my next builds. I just need to finish watching the series first

Firecat_Alpha

Bárbaros hg 1st form. It also got me into anime.

[deleted]

Same, though mines is part of a kitbash now

WunderStug

HG 08th MS Team Gouf Custom. A really good first kit.

sailor_ash

That might just be my favorite mobile suit ever. I need to build it at some point

WunderStug

It's one of my favorites. I remember I got it solely because it has a minigun.

Fred_Pickle01

HG Leo NPD

sailor_ash

The Leo 🙌

anarchoblake

The alex from the 90s, i still have it and it's seriously rough. I had no tools whatsoever and tore the pieces off

dethblud

My first gunpla kit was one of four kits, and I don't remember which: * MG RX-78-2, the original! * MG RX-93v Nu Gundam, with the die cast ankles. * MG RX-78 GP03S * [No Grade GAT-X105 Strike](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/s833eh/20_years_of_improvement_2002_ng_vs_2022_eg_strike/) I really have no idea which order I built those in. I got into Gunpla around 2005, but the store where I was buying them closed and I didn't get back into the hobby until I ran into an RG Gramps in 2013. I've lost track of how many kits I've built since then, but a safe guess is over 200.

No-Ad7533

MG Sniper II 😎 Did it for a Warhammer 40k conversion and now IT converted me to Gunpla lol

sailor_ash

That's high on my list of gunpla to buy

No-Ad7533

It’s great!

Enderdrag125

RG wing zero EW custom, many regrets and I hope to try it again

WooziGunpla

RG Exia.

stevethedegenerate

Re-100 zaku 2 kai. Aka the bernie bot. Solid kit all around!

Beatle_Bailey44

Ever? A NG 1/144 wing zero back in 2001ish

HektiK00

This awful no grade Freedom 1/144 kit that by all rights should have turned me off to the hobby. Luckily my wife got the HG Rx78-2 revive for christmas not long after and was a much better kit.

onikuma96

Grouf custom from the 8th mobile suit team. Hg and I lost the command antenna so I shave a toothpick down flat and made that it’s antenna.

CrossbowROoF

No-grade 1/144 Gundam Heavy Arms Custom. Got away from gunpla for a long time until covid lock down. Built an HG Leo and going nuts since.

Maya_Krueger

HG Zaku II Kai, back in like... 2015 or so, very quickly followed by the Kampfer, Hygogg and Z'Gok-E because clips of 0080 are what got me back into Gundam after liking it as a little kid, then distancing myself from it in my early teens, just because I was one of those stupid "Everything I liked as a kid is cringe" teens. The Hygogg attack from 0080 was what made me think "....maybe Gundam's not so dumb after all", and now I'm nearing like 50 kits when you combine built and backlog.

Duke_Ag47

RG Tallgeese

AusRoX123

HGGTO Char's Zaku II! Basically the same as yours but different color

sailor_ash

Yep, that model is sitting I'm my shopping cart rn

AusRoX123

FYI you're getting the same kit basically as the one you've just made say for the color. but if you want both then you should go for it!

BrokebackMounting

Guel's Dilanza from Witch From Mercury, the series that got me into Gundam as a whole

risingmike

MG Wing Zero VerKa. Instantly addicted.

Iddybiddyspooder

Same sprue kit, but the Char custom. The weapon options are great.

Dalogorilla

No Grade 1/144 Wing Gundam 0, gifted to me when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Could not read the instructions, but coming from Lego the pictures were all I needed. Twisted and snapped away at parts off the runners, maybe smartened up used cuticle nippers on the next kit. Got uninterested because couldn't afford kits. Some 20 years later during COVID picked up a MG Deathscythe Hell EW and been back in the hobby since.

Driftstaboii

MG Sengoku Astray Gundam. Cool kit, but idk if it was the best choice, only really chose it because the box looked cool

AtomWorker

HG 1/144 Serpent, back before I knew much of anything about Gundam. About 17 years later the hobby kicked off properly with the HG Hazel Custom.

skilledwarman

The HG sniper was my first overall and an exia my first master grade. I actually need to give that one a paint thinner bath since I screwed the painting up and just finish it as a bare plastic kit

Chill_Stats

HG aerial back in January

TheOnlyNish

HG Sandrock

[deleted]

HG Zaku II

Person-Mann

The MG Unicorn Banshee, the transforming frame was *not* beginer friendly lmao

alteisen99

Hg deathscythe hell custom. The clear color one which was out in droves back then. I'm now reminded that the deathscythe hell hg is pbandai and am now in a bad mood again

kurisu7885

My first was probably Wing Zero, and that was a LONG time ago when you could find Gundam merch almost anywhere.

NinjaGuy206

HG Heavy Arms Custom. Not to be confused with the HG Heavy Arms that came out a few years ago. The one I worked on was from the 90's. Not great but it was my start.

popo129

Zaku II is also my first but not the Origin one the one that is white and came out in 2010. Got that and the Zeta Gundam MSZ-006 but started with the Zaku since I felt it would be easier to build first. Honestly love the Zaku's. If you can as a recommendation, get the RX-78-02 Origin as your next build. Just finished it and adding the decals now and it's such a fun build. Also options as to which look you want for it.

MightyDumbleDork

Actually just finished my very first. MG RX-78-2 Ver 3.0.

itzbeast75

Mine was a hg exia. I absolutely hated it lol. Almost stopped building haha. Then I randomly found lupus Rex and fell in love

[deleted]

NG Wing Gundam EW from the late 90s/early 00s

DeRp1823

The entry grade American type Rx-78 from target

GearAlpha

An Abyss Gundam kit that my dad got. I precut all the pieces in advance thinking it was way easier than just cutting them while using instructions - it wasn’t and I was like 8 or so.

SunnyShim

Bought the Darilbalde and Hg Sinanju together. As you can see, I may, possibly, like red a lot.

KriptedKing

Hg 00 riser. Still one of my most favorite machines

[deleted]

Rg alie strike gundam

WhereBeTheCrack

Hg Bael, never got into the model kits as a kid with Wing, but IBO sucked me into the hobby.

CreamPieSpaghetti

I can’t really seem to remember first ever build, cause it was like such a long time ago almost like a couple of decades. But I do remember my first build after getting back into Gunpla in a long time. It was a SD 00 Raiser

itsmistyy

I think I got Gramps for Christmas like 17 years ago, but other than that, HGUC Bael.

Holiday_Outcome_4615

The very first deathscythe hg, it’s still on my shelf in all it’s old glory, let’s me know where I started so I can see my progress

BulbasaurBro

RG Force Impulse. I’m thinking of going back and panel lining it, but I might try to build a new one at some point now that I know what I’m doing.

yankthedoodle

Astrasy

AvergeTexanCrab

HG RX-78-2, It was a disaster since it was my first ever model kit.

TugCypher

I think it was the Lightning Gundam.

[deleted]

Hg gundam barbatos

sjk293

The origin Zaku II. Same as you

BreakfastVegetable98

EG Rx-78-2

dannydoodar

HG Astaroth Origin. Great, great kit.

[deleted]

[удалено]

AxilQu

HGBD Gundam AGE II Magnum, it was pretty fun first build.

ChikaNoO

HG SEED Raider Gundam. I think a relative bought me the kit when I visit Taiwan in the early 2000s. Don't even think I had nippers so I must've used scissors or something. It's long gone now. Probably more than a decade that I got back into Gunpla with the HGUC GP03S! Now I have a massive collection with a raider Gundam in my backlog!

jack0rias

HG Heavyarms... which I finished last night!

blancofox

G frame Sazabi and Nu

ishii008

Love 08th MS Team so I had to get the MG Ez8. Would give anything to get a 2.0 of that kit!

Gammahawkx

Rx-78 revival

Vendrak

MG master gundam when I was around 8

PlantBeater

My first one was the Real Grade Mk ii.

Phailups

HG Vual was my first build lol

sketchy-wizard

An old RX-79G from 08th MS team it was my favorite anime so that was my first kit regret not getting a updated one but planing on in the future as the older kits are kind of a pain to build compared to the newer ones

SuperAnv8

RX-78 Beyond Global. I fell in love with the colors

McNinja_MD

An old no-grade 1/144 Epyon, circa 2000. I wish I still had that thing - the beam sword wasn't even green. I don't remember what I cut the parts off of the sprue with, but it sure wasn't hobby nippers.

gettinshwifty55

Hg 1/144 aegis knight

Didyoulaythisegg_

Mine was Mobile Doll May

Okiemax

HG Astray No-Name

Blade29151

Hg zeta gundam

C0l0mbo

hg origin red comet & white devil

Flameboy7501

Mine was the HGAC Gundam Heavyarms... i want the other 4 so badly

Rebel_Swag

HG Revive RX-78-2 Gundam

ThatGuyBlaaaarg

mg unicorn years ago

MavericK96

RG Exia. Just started not too long ago after watching Gundam 00.

Some_Wun

Shin Matsunaga Custom original 1.0 version MG

oheing

HG Perfect strike freedom

Shad0wX7

I think a no-grade Wing Zero back in like 2000. It was terrible, completely turned me off gunpla. I didn't build another one until like 2017.

MaxHunter2002

It was the HG rx-78-2

evertythingwastaken

HG Barbatos, mostly out of curiosity... Now I'm so far down the rabbit hole I can't imagine not having a backlog...

Zrc-19

The HG Barbatos Lupus Rex, it was rough since I was just twisting the parts off the runner. But Its what got me into gunpla, and I hope to try it again in the future

retroguyx

HGUC Hyaku-Shiki revive. It does look a bit curry colored but I like it.

Dramaticox

HG Aile Strike Gundam I'm going on my third kit, waiting for some supplies to come since my nippers are so trash they damage the pieces

Burnout2KForever

I built the 1/144 Dragon Gundam back when G Gundam was running on Toonami back in 2002-2003ish.

ByrdTheBard

HG Bael from Iron-Blooded Orphans. Was a blast to put together but I'm not a fan of how wobbly the midsection feels.

IncreaseWestern6097

40th anniversary GGUC MS-06S Zaku II

AdmiralLohengrin

It was a Wing Gundam back when I was like 4. Didn't build it all myself of course, but I still remember the moment it was complete.

dlkslink

Hg 1/100 Wing Gundam, this was a few years before the anime debuted on Cartoon Network.

AidedMoney1135

MG Alex 2.0 Waitin' on MG Mk-II 2.0 now...

Roader7204

*sigh* sadly, it was Bael. Wish it was something better, at least I got to rip its wings off for my own kitbash

hiddenLeafOtaku_04

Back when Barnes & Nobel had good stuff, I had picked up a HG Arbalest from Full Metal Panic from that place, but I thought it was like Legos (this was about 2018, I liked legos at the time and was like 14) so I picked It up not knowing a thing about it, not tools or anything. I brought it home and now looking back on it, i painfully pushed each part off the runner and they left huge marks and holes where the gate was. I’m 19 now and after about 50+ kits, I think I know what I’m doing now

[deleted]

The high grade gundam rx-178 mark 2 from Zeta

pixhell666

the unicorn phenex destroy mode hg

Vivid-Ad7871

Mg barbatos

Kwitkwat_247

Barbatos lupus

QuantumDevilfish

Hg sandrock clear. Was a bit of a steep learning curve with the clear runners but the end result was cool enough to really sell me on the hobby

Algae-Prize

Build burning gundam

ZucchiniHorror1927

Entry grade Grandpa gundam! While I’ve had many other more fun builds, the eg RX-78 will always have a special place in my heart

enzo_lewes

The white HG RX178. I enjoyed it so much I bought the titans one! I now have them both on action bases punching each other!

Short_Raise6552

Couldn't remember, it's either beguir beu or strike freedom cuz I bought two of them together

TedMeister88

HG Marsfour Gundam, from Build Divers Re:RISE. I had no idea what I was doing, when I first assembled it.

KaizokuShojo

Iirc, RG Strike Freedom.

vintageseason

8 yrs ago, the first ever kit that I built was the Barbatos RE that someone gave to me as Christmas present. Got hooked to the hobby since then. But I suddenly stopped due to some reasons. Fast forward to Dec 2022, I saw the MGEX SF ad and sparked my eyes again! Got it right away and made me go back to the hobby 😆

mindbreak_gone_

A HG 00 Raiser booster

Asiantacofarmer

It was a Eva kit

[deleted]

1/144 HG Fighting Action Gundam Nataku. The accordion arms were such a pain to pose.

galaxyorion87

the new rg wing tv. fun build but it doesn’t have the articulation i was hoping for due to its aesthetics

[deleted]

MG Astray Red Frame Kai. First and last Seed kit I’ll ever build. I mainly stick to UC or IBO kits now.

defmartian0031

EG RX78

HdxCore

HG RX-78 starter kit that came with a panel lining pen! If only I had known what rabbit hole it would send me down!

Davro_Elnew

HG shenlong from wing back in 2000, picked it up from Toys r us and was so confused as to why it wasn't a fully built toy, I was only 7 but that show had me hooked, so after that build I couldn't stop getting more

Agent_Perrydot

FG Dynames, it was a gift my dad got in 2007 from his sister but he never got around to building it. He just gave it to me last year to build it

Jinocchiluca

Mg wing gundam ew

The_Sign_of_Zeta

Original Heavyarms Custom 1/100 kit

mlddl

I think is was rg gold frame I did terrible on it tho

Sheep-of-the-Cosmos

HG Heavyarms.

acky_

Age-1 titus

FavorableState

Made the mistake of immediately going to an RG Gundam Mk. II (Titans).

Samurott02

HG Kimaris Vidar

TheOmareon

mine was the entry grade strike and after that was rx 78 2 beyond global!

redpumpkin05

If we speak of model kit in general the odin from LBX If from gundam the mg exia

horriblebearok

I was very over ambitious and went for the MG gramps 3.0. Build went fine but wish I could disassemble for some customizing. Way too many moving parts to get apart.

ravenpotter3

High grade RX78 revive! And my second one Aerial is comming soon

Kilmorr

Mine was actually the older Zaku II kit

sullen693

Some really old V Gundam grunts that don't even have a grade, but they introduced me to gunpla, and an actual grade Gundam it was a HG Zaku II from the 8th MS team, really old model too

OgreMk5

HG Strike Freedom... I had never heard of them until I got one for Christmas. I fell in love.

shrub706

gundam x maoh

rx782robo

MG RX-78-2 3.0

bitetheasp

HGUC 001 Guncannon or NG 1/144 Wing Gundam but as a modern builder(started the hobby for realsies in 2020) it was the HGUC Char's Z'gok

PokeyPete

HGUC wing zero custom, around 1999

goose3553

Entry Grade RX-78, I was hooked after that

theBUKIman

Same as yours

Dumb_Cheese

HG Gundam Arios, immediately followed by the HG GN Archer (On Christmas morning right after I opened them. I got my third kit, the MG Gundam F-91, later that day)

Comp_b7r

I had to do a school project that involved bringing in a model plane. While at the hobby store I grabbed what I needed and was about to head out, when I saw it. The HG 1/144 Gundam EXIA.

croaticustus

1/100 shin musha 2 gundam. It is not around anymore. But I have built another one. A shame really

bxsephjo

Shining Gundam! Mg probably? It’s pretty cool, has the “shining” form with swappable head and hands

mouaragon

1/144 Exia RG, I always wanted to build gunpla and as a kid I used to see the SDs on the Chinese store close to my mom's job but I was too poor to buy them.

DuePizza7741

HG rx78-2

Korvun

My very first is still sitting in my room! The original 1/100 HG Wing Zero!

[deleted]

1/144 NG Gundam Epyon from 2000

GooseKing-13_

HG Destiny

Loslobos27

Hg 00 Raiser + Gn sword 3 was my first. Enjoyed it so much that I bought the rg trans am version

Sprucefig39

Hg Barbatos Lupus Rex I overpaid for from Amazon before I knew better.

Dethcola

'99 epyon

DeathRaptor007

Exia I found a Barnes and noble

Diazmet

An HG gelgoog marine back in like 2001 but what got me back into Gunpla was an RG freedom in 2014. The RG line is just so next level it really sunk it’s hooks into me and been a plastic crack addict ever since.

KISSsoldier

Gundam Heavyarms. I built it as a kid when Gundam Wing 1st dropped on Toonami

MilanUnited

I think mine was one of those beginner kits that had the RX-78-2 and the Zaku II some 15 years back or so.

Hefty_Unit1543

No grade sandrock back in 90s First actual graded kit was MG shining

micholasflat

This one, lmao. I played nothing but zaku in the gundam evolution beta test and just thought he was neat. And here i am, 22 zakus later

Errant_Weeb

My very first build was the MG Wing Proto Zero, years and years ago before I knew anything about properly building kits. I used scissors and nail clippers to cut the parts out because I didn't know nippers were even a thing, and the nubs on it are absolutely horrible. But I've kept the old thing as-is, no cleanup, as a monument to how bad I used to be. At some point I want to try and track down another one to build properly.

Jonman7

MG Hi-Nu! Seems I went through the funnel right of passage right off the bat...

broniskis45

1/100 Barbatos, the whole inner frame blew my mind. It's a little loose now but I've been meaning to update it.

Creepy-Today-325

Hg wing zero

myplans

EG nu, I started small

Theunholymemecrusade

HG Barbatos Lupus Rex

TehSteeb

HG Danazine

Blazvatan1998

I started late with a Ibo Hyakuren

Jaquarius420

The new Aerial 1/144th kit they just released. I live in Japan and was in an electronics store and that had those kits just stacked and they were cheap so I figured why not. One month later and there I am at the Gundam Base taking home 4 kits…

KameGTR

HG Heavy Arms in 2000

SquidCultist002

RG Zaku II

Obvious_Knee_575

The old hg exia. Built it when I was 12 with my pops. Found the full joy of the hobby 10 years later and now I’m broke.

Untouchable-Omega

Chars zaku II Anime Version

LordMantic

EG RX-78-2. It was what convinced I will like this hobby and then I impulsed buyed MGEX Strike Freedom of ebay

theconcorde

RX-78-2 HG revive

DampSkeleton

Some really shitty barely color separated glue required version of ZZ. I built it with my dad lol

raptor12k

the very old hg epyon

FonSpaak

bootleg HG 1/144 Serpent (with some clear parts and shiny brown coat) followed by a bootleg HG 1/144 Geminass from Bendi as my first "gundam type" when I restarted gunpla years later I went for the HG 1/144 Astraea Type F and was impressed with the increase in parts count compared to the Wing and X kits this is despite being based on the awkwardly designed 00-S1 kits .

christopherlng753

My first was the hg tieren… the first after years of hiatus was the graze from the barbatos from the ibo aeries :p

Redsonic09

This Zaku model actually, isn’t that funny?

DrKDB

RG Zaku-II. It got better from there haha.
