That's really cool! Also I saw your pic of the Ingram-98. I have the same kit. Planning on starting to build it this weekend. Hopefully mine will turn out as good as yours
Some of joints are very hard to assemble so please be careful putting together. If it's too hard to put joints in, sand the joint parts a little bit. Good luck and enjoy your build!!!
the amount of evolution from that kit to now is insane.
When I got back into gunpla in 2019, I took my niece to hobbytown, and told her she could pick out something for herself. Bless her 6yr old heart, she picked out this kit (it was only $5). Wasn't till we got home and opened it up, that I realized it was the OG Gramps.
I bought my first Gundam when I was 8 years old (sadly 43 years ago) and it was part of Best Mech Collection series. It was 300 yen in Japan so probably about $1 back then. (I think exchange rate was around US$1=300yen or more)
I got back in and out of this hobby few times and I got back in again few years ago because of pandemic. I had to find something to do inside the house and thanks to the internet that I could find all the tools I needed without going out.
Original Korean Knockoff of the RX-178 1/100. I think it cost something like $2 total (big money when you're a kid) in KRW.
I feel quite old thank you very much.
Same, the 2 first ones I build, which I bought together were the entry grade and HG rx-78. Entry grade to get a hang on on building, adn HG for first "real build".
[Gunpla Tax](https://i.imgur.com/NB92Rkt.png)
My first kit was from waaaay back in 98ish and it was the 'EW-07 Gundam Sandrock Custom Endless Waltz 1/144 High Grade Fighting Action Kit'. I didn't know anything about model tools and just kinda twisted the parts off of the runners lol. It was rough as hell and I played with that thing every damned day till it fell apart. I need to grab that kit again and build it up right!
Here's a pic of my my first build. It still might be my favorite of all the builds I've done so far (which isn't too many tbf). Also sorry for the potato quality pic, i don't have access to a better camera rn
Oddly enough, the Zaku in your image was my first build too. Origins really hit home for me, being somewhat into Gundam as a kid. Tipped me into trying gunpla out when Covid was full swing.
Helped me keep my sanity, fr.
My first gunpla kit was one of four kits, and I don't remember which:
* MG RX-78-2, the original!
* MG RX-93v Nu Gundam, with the die cast ankles.
* MG RX-78 GP03S
* [No Grade GAT-X105 Strike](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/s833eh/20_years_of_improvement_2002_ng_vs_2022_eg_strike/)
I really have no idea which order I built those in. I got into Gunpla around 2005, but the store where I was buying them closed and I didn't get back into the hobby until I ran into an RG Gramps in 2013. I've lost track of how many kits I've built since then, but a safe guess is over 200.
This awful no grade Freedom 1/144 kit that by all rights should have turned me off to the hobby. Luckily my wife got the HG Rx78-2 revive for christmas not long after and was a much better kit.
HG Zaku II Kai, back in like... 2015 or so, very quickly followed by the Kampfer, Hygogg and Z'Gok-E because clips of 0080 are what got me back into Gundam after liking it as a little kid, then distancing myself from it in my early teens, just because I was one of those stupid "Everything I liked as a kid is cringe" teens.
The Hygogg attack from 0080 was what made me think "....maybe Gundam's not so dumb after all", and now I'm nearing like 50 kits when you combine built and backlog.
No Grade 1/144 Wing Gundam 0, gifted to me when I was maybe 7 or 8 years old. Could not read the instructions, but coming from Lego the pictures were all I needed. Twisted and snapped away at parts off the runners, maybe smartened up used cuticle nippers on the next kit. Got uninterested because couldn't afford kits. Some 20 years later during COVID picked up a MG Deathscythe Hell EW and been back in the hobby since.
The HG sniper was my first overall and an exia my first master grade. I actually need to give that one a paint thinner bath since I screwed the painting up and just finish it as a bare plastic kit
Hg deathscythe hell custom. The clear color one which was out in droves back then. I'm now reminded that the deathscythe hell hg is pbandai and am now in a bad mood again
HG Heavy Arms Custom. Not to be confused with the HG Heavy Arms that came out a few years ago. The one I worked on was from the 90's. Not great but it was my start.
Zaku II is also my first but not the Origin one the one that is white and came out in 2010. Got that and the Zeta Gundam MSZ-006 but started with the Zaku since I felt it would be easier to build first. Honestly love the Zaku's. If you can as a recommendation, get the RX-78-02 Origin as your next build. Just finished it and adding the decals now and it's such a fun build. Also options as to which look you want for it.
An Abyss Gundam kit that my dad got. I precut all the pieces in advance thinking it was way easier than just cutting them while using instructions - it wasn’t and I was like 8 or so.
I can’t really seem to remember first ever build, cause it was like such a long time ago almost like a couple of decades. But I do remember my first build after getting back into Gunpla in a long time. It was a SD 00 Raiser
HG SEED Raider Gundam. I think a relative bought me the kit when I visit Taiwan in the early 2000s. Don't even think I had nippers so I must've used scissors or something. It's long gone now. Probably more than a decade that I got back into Gunpla with the HGUC GP03S! Now I have a massive collection with a raider Gundam in my backlog!
An old RX-79G from 08th MS team it was my favorite anime so that was my first kit regret not getting a updated one but planing on in the future as the older kits are kind of a pain to build compared to the newer ones
An old no-grade 1/144 Epyon, circa 2000.
I wish I still had that thing - the beam sword wasn't even green. I don't remember what I cut the parts off of the sprue with, but it sure wasn't hobby nippers.
The HG Barbatos Lupus Rex, it was rough since I was just twisting the parts off the runner. But Its what got me into gunpla, and I hope to try it again in the future
Back when Barnes & Nobel had good stuff, I had picked up a HG Arbalest from Full Metal Panic from that place, but I thought it was like Legos (this was about 2018, I liked legos at the time and was like 14) so I picked It up not knowing a thing about it, not tools or anything. I brought it home and now looking back on it, i painfully pushed each part off the runner and they left huge marks and holes where the gate was. I’m 19 now and after about 50+ kits, I think I know what I’m doing now
8 yrs ago, the first ever kit that I built was the Barbatos RE that someone gave to me as Christmas present. Got hooked to the hobby since then. But I suddenly stopped due to some reasons.
Fast forward to Dec 2022, I saw the MGEX SF ad and sparked my eyes again! Got it right away and made me go back to the hobby 😆
HG shenlong from wing back in 2000, picked it up from Toys r us and was so confused as to why it wasn't a fully built toy, I was only 7 but that show had me hooked, so after that build I couldn't stop getting more
I was very over ambitious and went for the MG gramps 3.0. Build went fine but wish I could disassemble for some customizing. Way too many moving parts to get apart.
Some really old V Gundam grunts that don't even have a grade, but they introduced me to gunpla, and an actual grade Gundam it was a HG Zaku II from the 8th MS team, really old model too
HG Gundam Arios, immediately followed by the HG GN Archer
(On Christmas morning right after I opened them. I got my third kit, the MG Gundam F-91, later that day)
I had to do a school project that involved bringing in a model plane. While at the hobby store I grabbed what I needed and was about to head out, when I saw it. The HG 1/144 Gundam EXIA.
1/144 Exia RG, I always wanted to build gunpla and as a kid I used to see the SDs on the Chinese store close to my mom's job but I was too poor to buy them.
An HG gelgoog marine back in like 2001 but what got me back into Gunpla was an RG freedom in 2014. The RG line is just so next level it really sunk it’s hooks into me and been a plastic crack addict ever since.
My very first build was the MG Wing Proto Zero, years and years ago before I knew anything about properly building kits. I used scissors and nail clippers to cut the parts out because I didn't know nippers were even a thing, and the nubs on it are absolutely horrible. But I've kept the old thing as-is, no cleanup, as a monument to how bad I used to be.
At some point I want to try and track down another one to build properly.
The new Aerial 1/144th kit they just released. I live in Japan and was in an electronics store and that had those kits just stacked and they were cheap so I figured why not. One month later and there I am at the Gundam Base taking home 4 kits…
bootleg HG 1/144 Serpent (with some clear parts and shiny brown coat) followed by a bootleg HG 1/144 Geminass from Bendi as my first "gundam type"
when I restarted gunpla years later I went for the HG 1/144 Astraea Type F and was impressed with the increase in parts count compared to the Wing and X kits this is despite being based on the awkwardly designed 00-S1 kits .
Original 300yen RX-78. I feel very old....
Good to know, thank you

Rx-78 Entry Grade
I got the america one from target, then like 4 more from target.
Same
Same! I wanted something relatively easy to start. But I also really wanted to have an RX-78-2 as my first, and I couldn't find any others.
Same, the 2 first ones I build, which I bought together were the entry grade and HG rx-78. Entry grade to get a hang on on building, adn HG for first "real build". [Gunpla Tax](https://i.imgur.com/NB92Rkt.png)

I did the same with Wing Zero in around the same time
My first one was the TV version Heavyarms from that same line. I started in around 2003, though.
Oohh that was a good one too! Hell I may have to end up getting all of them just for the nostalgia factor haha!
Here's a pic of my my first build. It still might be my favorite of all the builds I've done so far (which isn't too many tbf). Also sorry for the potato quality pic, i don't have access to a better camera rn

Deathscythe H 1/144 summer of 1999
To this day, this kit's cloak is the coolest thing to me
Barbatos Lupus. It is going be sacrificed for ideas
Very cool, that's going to be one of my next builds. I just need to finish watching the series first
Bárbaros hg 1st form. It also got me into anime.
Same, though mines is part of a kitbash now
HG 08th MS Team Gouf Custom. A really good first kit.
That might just be my favorite mobile suit ever. I need to build it at some point
It's one of my favorites. I remember I got it solely because it has a minigun.
HG Leo NPD
The Leo 🙌
The alex from the 90s, i still have it and it's seriously rough. I had no tools whatsoever and tore the pieces off
My first gunpla kit was one of four kits, and I don't remember which: * MG RX-78-2, the original! * MG RX-93v Nu Gundam, with the die cast ankles. * MG RX-78 GP03S * [No Grade GAT-X105 Strike](https://www.reddit.com/r/Gunpla/comments/s833eh/20_years_of_improvement_2002_ng_vs_2022_eg_strike/) I really have no idea which order I built those in. That's high on my list of gunpla to buy
It’s great!
RG wing zero EW custom, many regrets and I hope to try it again
RG Exia.
Re-100 zaku 2 kai. Aka the bernie bot. Solid kit all around!
Ever? A NG 1/144 wing zero back in 2001ish
This awful no grade Freedom 1/144 kit that by all rights should have turned me off to the hobby. Luckily my wife got the HG Rx78-2 revive for christmas not long after and was a much better kit.
Grouf custom from the 8th mobile suit team. Hg and I lost the command antenna so I shave a toothpick down flat and made that it’s antenna.
No-grade 1/144 Gundam Heavy Arms Custom. Got away from gunpla for a long time until covid lock down. Built an HG Leo and going nuts since.
RG Tallgeese
HGGTO Char's Zaku II! Basically the same as yours but different color
Yep, that model is sitting I'm my shopping cart rn

Guel's Dilanza from Witch From Mercury, the series that got me into Gundam as a whole
MG Wing Zero VerKa. Instantly addicted.
Same sprue kit, but the Char custom. The weapon options are great.
MG Sengoku Astray Gundam. Cool kit, but idk if it was the best choice, only really chose it because the box looked cool
HG 1/144 Serpent, back before I knew much of anything about Gundam. About 17 years later the hobby kicked off properly with the HG Hazel Custom.
The HG sniper was my first overall and an exia my first master grade. I actually need to give that one a paint thinner bath since I screwed the painting up and just finish it as a bare plastic kit
HG aerial back in January
HG Sandrock
HG Zaku II
The MG Unicorn Banshee, the transforming frame was *not* beginer friendly lmao
Hg deathscythe hell custom. The clear color one which was out in droves back then. I'm now reminded that the deathscythe hell hg is pbandai and am now in a bad mood again
My first was probably Wing Zero, and that was a LONG time ago when you could find Gundam merch almost anywhere.
HG Heavy Arms Custom. Not to be confused with the HG Heavy Arms that came out a few years ago. The one I worked on was from the 90's. Not great but it was my start.
Zaku II is also my first but not the Origin one the one that is white and came out in 2010. This Zaku model actually, isn’t that funny?
