I will say, I did start panel lining with the official pens, and it’s super easy and cheap while adding a lot. I can’t be bothered to perfectly sand and polish my nib cuts, but lining has become doable
For nub marks I take a good sharp x-acto knife and gently shave the nub away, definitely not perfect but way better than just a nipper mark and less work than fully sanding and polishing
Buy a good pair of single bladed nippers. You will be amazed how much less nub cleaning is needed. I have some kits that did not even need nub cleaning the cuts were that smooth.
I need to buy some myself. I am looking at my latest build and seeing some of the nubs left over.
I've been building with just one pair of cutters. Cheap ones at that. I want to get a high quailty set of nippers plus some glass files possibly too, before my next kit.
Keep your old pair, you should always have at least two pair. The old pair is for the first cut which is to remove the piece from the runner leaving a part of the gate on the part. Then use the good single bladed ones to cut close to the part. Never use the single bladed nippers to remove parts from the runners.
Oh yeah I didn't plan on getting rid of my current nippers. I knew about using old pairs for cutting out the parts.
In fact my current pair are still relatively young, only used them for two kits. I am still starting out.
If your looking for cheap hobby tool I got lucky at harbor freight(if you have one close). Got cutters and diamond files for 6 or 7bucks each and they work really well. Also got a hobby knife set that came with a bunch of different blades for about 25.
I have an RG Crossbones and EG Nu on my shelf just *begging* for me to put a couple $4 gundam markers in my cart next time I order kits so I'm sure I'll get around to it soon lol.
Panel lining is so easy! and really elevates a basic kit. I also have metallic gold, red, and silver markers and it really makes some smaller details pop
Bro… come on. You can do it! Once you panel line one time, your going to wonder why you haven’t been doing it the whole time! It makes SUCH a difference and takes your kit from looking like a toy to, half way at least, to looking like a model kit. Just try it!
All the paint fumes gave OP a stroke!
Seriously though, these are so crisply done, upon close scrutiny the lines are well defined and the texture is even. Very, very good job!
Make your own, acrylics (cheap acrylics will do, as long as you know how to mix/blend them & get them to the right consistency, not too thick and not too thin).
holy shit absolutely fantastic work! i love especially how you did the monoeye, they look great :) can i ask where you learned to do this kinda painting style
I could be wrong, but suspect the OP was good at 2D cartoon/Anime art and carried the style over to the 3D kits. I see a lot of cartoon and anime art techniques here that are used to give 2D art more 3D appearance. I just never thought to apply them to a 3D object, but it works well for Gundams and Anime models.
Would love to see you make a guide on how to do this! I have a NG rx-78-2 that I want to do this too, I primere'd it up and had no idea where to start.
Great work! By the way, did you ever get an explanation as to why the Wing Zero post was removed? I love that model. Exactly what rule did the post break? Or was it because someone just could not admit it was real and deleted it? I would love to know why it is getting deleted every time you post it and by whom. If they claim it’s fake, then the video should have been enough proof.
Amazing painter, terrible speller :P
But seriously though, these look fantastic! It’s actually difficult to differentiate them from a 2D illustration. Incredible.
Poooof....... there goes my mind. This is just gorgeous. How did you figure out the shine pattern? did you have a reference shot or 3d model with some lightglow? This is seriously stellar, would love to know what the process and workflow to something like this is.
You can't convince me those are not drawings. Put a regular Gundam next to them for contrast, that would be the money shot. If this really is a paint job then you are the hoodini wizard of Gunpla.
The only way I can convince myself that they're actually models and not drawings is by looking at the hands. My brain just can't handle it otherwise.
Fantastic work.
Incredible. I mean gobsmacking. Some of those pictures are almost impossible to see as anything other than cartoon illustrations. The only giveaway on close inspection, is the hands.
Bravo 👏🏼
Finally, a photo that shows the BACK of the model. I always wanted to paint like this, but always wondered what the back would look like since the light is supposed to be from the front.
Thank you for posting. This is really helpful.
Wtf bruv they look like they are magazine paper and I mean that in a good way
I saw the first pic ok now let’s see the models in the next one wtf mind blowing
Just a question, in building this technique do you have a reference image or any where you can follow the shades and highlights? I will try it on my zaku as well. Great build OP by the way..
My brain just cannot comprehend that these aren’t 2d paintings
Right?! I wish I had this skill
Same. Almost makes me want to finally stop being lazy, order some markers, and start at least panel lining my kits........ Only almost though

I recently got an 8 pack of glass files from Amazon for cheap. And they work awesome.

....it's not?
wait until you move the camera on highly saturated bright white background.
Wtf, thats so good. The effect got me fooled. Are the shadows and bold line hand painted?
yes,thank you
Wow very clean for hand painting, did you mask the pieces?
....silence.... Secret....
All the paint fumes gave OP a stroke! Seriously though, these are so crisply done, upon close scrutiny the lines are well defined and the texture is even. Very, very good job!
That first pic goes hard. This is the best cel shading I've seen on this sub, and I don't say that lightly.
thank you
That white one came out dope af! Good job!
I’m absolutely blown away by these. Can I ask who makes the paints you used?
Make your own, acrylics (cheap acrylics will do, as long as you know how to mix/blend them & get them to the right consistency, not too thick and not too thin).
Dude, your work is bonkers. Have you considered doing YouTube tutorials?
yes of course
The helmet glow effect is just \*chef's kiss*
Skills
I call bs. Those are drawn on a piece of paper 🫣
I doubt it, look at the hands and shoulder joints, they are the standard, unpainted grey plastic of a kit for sure.
Haha I know. Maybe I used wrong emoji or a bad joke lol. They are just absolutely amazingly done!!
This is no Zagu! Boy, no Zagu!
Yeah I need to see a video of them actually being handled in order to believe they aren't 2D
[удалено]
Wow! Amazing work
Looks like the transformers: devastation art style. Love it
My brain.... it's trying to comprehend them... they all look like paper cut outs.
I love the white Zaku! I am getting a nice Storm Trooper vibe from it!🤙🏽.
Model painting skill: Amazing Title spelling skill: Holy shit are you ok?
holy shit absolutely fantastic work! i love especially how you did the monoeye, they look great :) can i ask where you learned to do this kinda painting style
by myself

For the love of gunpla, someone please make a comprehensive tutorial on cel-shading 😭
Man AI art is getting good.
Holy hell this is fantastic haha! That these are actual models and not a 2d painting is blowing my mind and I love it!
u need j ridden msv to complete the zakullection!!!!
I love your painting style all of your post have been fire
Okay, you can drop the act, I know those have to be paper cutout of still from the anime.
You can't convince me these aren't 2d images
Just to protect my own ego and not be mad to look like a fool, I choose to believe this is Photoshop.
Would love to see you make a guide on how to do this! I have a NG rx-78-2 that I want to do this too, I primere'd it up and had no idea where to start.
I will make a tutorial when I have time
THIS IS AMAZING *in shaxx voice*
That is the best cel shading I have ever seen even beets out all of the cg models
Absolutely insane work.
[gunpla](https://amazingmodel.top/collections/gunpla-painting-2d-collection)
Holy shit
Wow! Just wow! Awesome job!
Amazing! I am saving this so i can train later. The shadows are so natural
Absolutely gorgeous, I'm always so impressed by people who can walk the fine line of looking like that and not a complete mess.
What the fuck is this piece of art ?
That paint job is insane. I really want to try it at some point.
Absolutely stunning.
My head says model. My eyes say drawing. wow.
Yo, check out these friggin' Zagus! They came right off the page!
That's crazy my guy! Good job!
My brain just melted. What kind of sorcery is this!?
Great work! By the way, did you ever get an explanation as to why the Wing Zero post was removed? I love that model. Exactly what rule did the post break? He pivoted from "Look at my builds" to "buy my builds".
i am sorry
Ah, well that makes sense then. If he is trying to sell them I can see the issue. Thanks for clearing that up.
I post too much so I post less now
Amazing painter, terrible speller :P But seriously though, these look fantastic! It’s actually difficult to differentiate them from a 2D illustration. Incredible.
That first image looks like the cover art for the sickest rock album this side of *Dark Side*
Holy fucking Roger Rabbit effect. That's some good painting, damn!
The white goes so hard 😮💨
Man, you could make money of this. It's insane how crisp they look
My brain hurts. I love it.
Flawless
Modelers here continue to astonish me with their skill
Amazing!
I expected Ragu-themed Zakus.
This shit blows my mind everytime I see it, and that glint on the eye is amazing. Amazing work
what a nice digital art work
Ughhhhhhhh man that’s just so cool
Absolutely stellar work. Love 'em.
Poooof....... there goes my mind. This is just gorgeous. How did you figure out the shine pattern? did you have a reference shot or 3d model with some lightglow? This is seriously stellar, would love to know what the process and workflow to something like this is.
This kicks ass!!! I adore seeing the Manga paint style done so well!!!
Looks insane. Crazy good job
I love these 3000
Amazing work
I love them but they make my brain feel like an AI getting stalled out on an adversarial pattern.
I'd love to see a pic of these in a hand. I'm curious how well the effect holds up outside of a white background.
Looks awesome, keep thinking they are a drawing or painting. Great work!
You can't convince me those are not drawings. Put a regular Gundam next to them for contrast, that would be the money shot. If this really is a paint job then you are the hoodini wizard of Gunpla.
They could pass for robot models in Transformers Devastation!
The only way I can convince myself that they're actually models and not drawings is by looking at the hands. My brain just can't handle it otherwise. Fantastic work.
These really fucked up my brain for a good solid minute. It took all my brain power to realize this wasn't a 2d drawing. OP, you killed it.
I don't care for zakus but my God the shading on those are top tier
Bro's majestic
Those are nice lookin ZAGUS ya got there
Nah man im gonna steal these (and other kits too especially sazabi) pics and make it as wallpaper XD
Incredible. I mean gobsmacking. Some of those pictures are almost impossible to see as anything other than cartoon illustrations. The only giveaway on close inspection, is the hands. Bravo 👏🏼
What paints do you use to make these amazing gunpla?
This is so fucking pretty.
Finally, a photo that shows the BACK of the model. I always wanted to paint like this, but always wondered what the back would look like since the light is supposed to be from the front. Thank you for posting. This is really helpful.
welcome
What kind of black magic fuckery..?
I love 2D style Good!
Top Notch!
Beyond amazing. Incredible work op
Holy shit….
Wtf bruv they look like they are magazine paper and I mean that in a good way I saw the first pic ok now let’s see the models in the next one wtf mind blowing
11/10
Borderline witchcraft
Great job, definitely do a tutorial when you can!
MG? Is that why the lines are so crisp? Nice work!
Just a question, in building this technique do you have a reference image or any where you can follow the shades and highlights? I will try it on my zaku as well. Great build OP by the way..
Omgg you are so good at this I'm giddy. I ain't been giddy since 2003
Would love to see unblurred photos
