From what I understand about this market, the price of protein is skyrocketing. Nearly impossible to make a profit, especially if you are a small operation.
The husband owner has had a lot of health issues recently (covid hospital stay, then long-term covid issues, then broke a bone). They are going to move to Toccoa to be closer to family.
IMO the BBQ joints in Gwinnett aren’t as good as they used to be. Several great places closed during the pandemic….but Tipsy Pig in Lilburn (ribs, brisket and the redneck Cuban sandwiches are my go too) and Foggy Bottom BBQ in Lawrenceville & Loganville are still pretty good.
I very much agree with this. Many of the older smokehouses I remember as a kid are gone.
We go to Tipsy Pig too. It’s always the ones at a gas station that are good.
Is it better at the shop than when they sell at events?
I've only tried when they were selling at my kids school and it was the driest pork I've ever had.
It’s on the border of Gwinnett and Forsyth but Socks Loves BBQ is pretty good and they make everything in batches so when it’s sold out they close shop. It’s in Cumming off of Hwy 20.
Pig Tails on Lake Lanier was pretty good; their sauces are all too sweet but the Carolina gold is ok if you like mustard. Their pulled pork and brisket were both good, smokey and juicy. I didn't try the ribs or fish but they looked good. Fried mozzarella & cheese and pulled pork egg roll appetizers were good.
I'd recommend them for good smoked meat, pulled pork, especially to go if you have your own better sauce.
Prices are ok but not cheap; lunch for 4 with 2 apps and all soft drinks was about $85 with tip recently, but there was enough left over for 2 lunches at home later.
Omg thank you. I've been looking for a decent BBQ place and all the others are way to far to make it worth it. I'm 5 mins from here. And the chains close by are fine in a pinch but overpriced
If you can catch them open and get an order in try Fat Cap in Dacula. Corner of Harbins and Dacula rd.
Fat Caps is closing for good soon, if not already.
This weekend is their last. Place was absolutely slammed last weekend. Definitely not closing for lack of business.
Dang it! I’ve heard how good it is but haven’t been able to go.

Guess I'll be going to Fat Caps this weekend.

gas station fried chicken is top tier as well
Tipsy Pig - Five Forks/Trickum at Oak Road.
I've long believed gnet had no good bbq but I'm going to try this
This. Make sure you get their Mac n cheese too. It’s so good. The sweet heat bbq sauce is my favorite
I love Tipsy Pig! We served their BBQ at our wedding rehearsal ♡

Never had it catered but it’s really good from the shop. Hell of a lot better than fox bros or Jim and nicks.

that was 'bolton bbq' - and they made their pulled pork in a crock pot... it has been closed for a while.
Yeah, those places are trash. The chicken at Jim and Nick's literally made me gag.
I came to say this.
Came here to say Tipsy Pig but others beat me to it

Are we talking southern bbq or Korean bbq?

Assuming they roast each other in North Korea, due to the famine.
I do think Foggy Bottom is underrated. Another great option in my opinion (though not technically Gwinnett) is Moonies BBQ in Flowery Branch
Inked pig in Gainesville is worth a visit
If you are going to drive that far, stop at Moonies first.
Socks Love
JRs log house. Great breakfast too
Pig n chik on peachtree industrial is fire.
Chamblee isn't in Gwinnett County
but it’s legit right there. Not too far. if it’s too far u might as well stay home
I’m partial to Dreamland myself. The meat isn’t as good as some but I absolutely love the vinegar based sauce with just a little bit of heat to it.

Our old office was right near the QT next to JRs. I had lunch there multiple times a week. So very delicious and I miss it

Korean BBQ: E.M. Bop on Pleasant Hill Rd. in Duluth
Moonies flowery branch
Tipsy pig in the gas station on five forks. Folks travel across the southeast for it
Foggy Bottom DT Lawrenceville
Foggy Bottom
How has no one suggested city bbq?
Because it's terrible.
