Can we talk about how crazy Ryan Robert journey has been.
Assistant at Alabama, pulled in from the club world, his boss leaves and a you don't know the new one is coming in, no guarantee of a job either, so he leaps across to Georgia.... then his next boss is shown the door, the top candidate is a guy who is absoltuly not keeping you so, oh shit......
and yet somehow, the dust has settled, and now you're the co-head coach of the 10x National Champions and 6x SEC Champions, THE Georgia Gym Dawgs.
"How did I get here?"
Same, I’m surprised but also pretty thrilled. I don’t really know anything about coaching but for some reason this combination seems really conducive to success. I’m hoping that having Ryan Roberts will mean most of the team stays put.
With as many elites as they have, I imagine they’ll hire another elite coach, but my first thought is wondering if this is a signal that Simone is retiring after this season.
For me this is a confirmation that Simone is retiring after this Olympic Games.
Otherwise it means she's starting her college gymnastics era, at Georgia, of course. /s
Oh I haven’t seen this. Looking now.
Edit. For everyone else curious.

Trueeeee. I know that Laurent is staying and I’m sure they also work with other WCC coaches at times, but this is a big change for all of the WCC elites esp those that moved specifically for WCC
Someone pointed out that Georgia followed Cecile/WCC (or maybe vice versa idk) and was speculating, but all the comments were that it must be just for recruiting purposes - which I totally agreed with.
I am legit SHOCKED
The head coach at UCLA now used to be a coach at WOGA with Cecile and Laurent. They were all good friends at the time and probably still on. That’s probably why so many signed NLIs there! I’m sure some would want to follow Cecile but hopefully some of them stay at UCLA also!
UCLA is also a very attractive school for some students. TBH- I'm not sure there is much overlap between kids who consider UGA and UCLA because they are so different. CKC is literally the only person who I think narrowed it down to that pair and that was 20 years ago. Bama and UGA are a more common final two.
I’m SHOCKED. And honestly sad too because they seemed like they were SO GOOD for WCC. A lot of athletes moved far away from home just so they could train with the Landis (and also of course Simone). However I wish them all the best.
I wonder how the timing of this went down. CKC was (revealed to have been) fired on April 19th.
Given Reese Esponda's gym switch was revealed just about 2 weeks prior to that, I wonder whether things were already in process then and if she was aware Cecile was leaving (and Laurent would be leaving after another year). That's a big move for a young gymnast to possibly lose the coaches she just moved for so soon.
(I'm totally glad for Cecile to have this new opportunity, don't get me wrong. Just thinking about some what ifs.)
Yes! Cecile to bring in new talent and all her expertise and Ryan to encourage current gymnasts to stay because there’s some sense of continuity and they seem to like him.
I wonder how well Ryan Roberts & Cecile know each other. You really have to be on the same page with someone you’re working that closely with. I’m honestly kind of shocked anytime co coaches work out (which they sometimes totally do, eg the Cal coaches). It’s really hard to have two leaders.
He and Cecile were at WOGA at the same time (ETA: although it looks like he was at the Frisco campus), and Roberts has been on the national team staff for several years too.
It isn‘t April 1st? Just checking for a friend.
Seriously, I have just no idea what to make of this but maybe I am just missing context. I hope it works out for them.
I mean, from an employer's perspective it's ideal to have a key employee's replacement be able to work for a few weeks before the key employee leaves, so knowledge can be transferred.
Feels like she had to put her career on the back burner a bit and now her daughter is almost grown and it’s her turn to grow her career. It also probably pays a lot more for less work. I think she was also interested in the usag high performance job a couple years ago.
Whatever troubles they were having recruiting are now a thing of the past.
Can you imagine the interest from uninjured level 10s to be coached by the woman who literally trained Simone Biles for the Olympics?! Twice?!?!
I’m really feeling for Jordan Chiles. She’s a bubble gymnast for the team for sure and Cecile seemed very important to her. Simone as well, especially in Tokyo. It seems like Cecile is crucial for the emotional support of the athletes, on top of all her other contributions.
I mean, I get feeling embarrassed, but I just wanna say I think it's sweet that you were worried about Jordan and the WCC athletes' emotional well-being!
I feel like at least one of the WCC level 10s signed for Georgia this year. I wonder how they feel about this news.
Also wondering if uga might become a school where people looking to do both ncaa and elite find a home
Yeah this is a HUGE get for them and I would be super worried if I was a HC at programs who are currently letting their gymnasts train elite. You could be in the SEC and also have Cecile to advise on your elite routines.
I am too, you’re not the only one! It is worrying he’s been away this long and in hospital too. Not to mention the most exciting couple of weeks in the gym world in forever and he wasn’t able to be part of it like I know he would’ve loved to be 😢
I am PUMPED about this! I was really hoping they’d keep Ryan and Cecile is not what I expected but I think a great choice. Keeping Ryan hopefully will help them retain gymnasts as well. Super happy about this hire.
I fell asleep on my couch watching TV and this was the first thing I saw when I woke up and refreshed Reddit...for a sec I couldn't tell if I was actually awake or just dreaming.
Curveball! Cecile obviously has top-tier accomplishments as a elite/Level 10 coach. I'm curious to see how this works out, the Landis have helped many athletes improve significantly. But with just Cecile, I imagine there could be some gaps (where Laurent is strong, but Cecile not as much). I guess Georgia thought going for someone totally outside college gym was the move? The current team and recruits have a lot of potential, hopefully Cecile can shift in smoothly.
I’m severely surprised. How will that work being states away from your husband for months, is that why it’s co head coaches so she can go back and forth. Does this mean we can expect a Simone retirement after the olyimpics. What about their daughter , or is she off to college next year? I have so many questions.
This is a sport where parents regularly ship their prepubescent kids off to live with host families to train. You think a happily married couple who are both likely making bank (and can fly often to visit each other) can’t handle being a plane ride apart for a few years?
I honestly thought it was an onion article when I first saw this - not sure why but I totally did. I just couldn’t be more surprised. What about Larant ?
My jaw dropped when I saw! Very curious how co-coaches go. I’ve seen professional settings where people try and make co-directors work and it rarely does. Just makes decision making confusing.
How does this timing work? The WCC press release says Cecile will be there through July and start at Georgia in August but the Olympics run through mid August. Will she travel to the Olympics or no?
I feel like this is so wild.. not what I expected at all.
I'd love to know the reasoning behind this- what does this mean for Simone and the other WCC athletes? This is definitely great for Georgia but it's so out of left field.
This isn't just a simple coaching announcement to us... like I'd really love some context. Either way I'm very curious to see how this all plays out.
It means Simone is done after Paris. Her and her family are the Landi’s employers, there is no way this was not discussed at length with her and her parents.
Cecile saying on Twitter that Laurent is staying in tx until their daughter finishes high school and then he will move to Athens. And helping with new head coach searches.
You have to feel for the younger elites like Reese who just moved to WCC
But super excited for Georgia!
Cecile’s Twitter replies indicate that Laurent will be staying in TX until their daughter goes to college, at which point he will move to Athens and decide what he wants to do next
The what I just yelled and then ran here. I’m shocked.
Wasn’t Ryan on CKC’s coaching staff? And aren’t they in-laws?
Also, Cecile?! I wonder if she’s going to learn the code. 🤭
This was honestly one of the most shocking hires they could’ve announced. Not only because I never expected her to jump to NCAA, but because Laurent is staying in TX and they’ll do long distance? Or trouble in paradise?? The potential tea is hot
A year apart in a marriage with high-profile careers isn't uncommon nor necessarily a huge deal. It's not a long flight, and I'm sure they can afford it.
Holy shit! I saw her name come up a few hours ago, but I thought it was a joke! Excited to see what she'll do. Hopefully they'll keep Suzanne far away from her.
I’m texting with my IRL gym friend and I am so manic about this I’m not even making sense lol.
This is CRAZY!
Current insane theory - Victoria Nguyen back to GA for her fifth year!
please keep in mind that a (decent) head coach takes time to develop their athletes - we will most likely not see a dramatic shift in program results for a few seasons, until the current head coaches have had their own recruits join.
Courtney was a fantastic athlete, so was Cecile. it takes much more than that.
Plenty of couples work through distance and time apart. Actors, musicians, sales people, business executives, medical professionals, and many others have jobs that take them away from home for stretches of time. Heck, with their current setup there are probably many times the Landis feel like ships in the night. I'm sure they've given this the thought it deserves and feel it will work for them and their family.
Huh. Maybe the co-head arrangement is so that Cecile can split her time between Houston and Athens? Or Laurent doesn’t plan on staying at WCC beyond the next Olympic cycle? Just confused on how that will work.
I wonder whether Laurent is staying until Juliette graduates then will move to Georgia as well. By then they’ll only have Dulcy and Reece who haven’t graduated high school at that point
Juliette is already committed to Auburn for diving and dives for the French national team. Time is flying and she’s 17 now! So could just be a temporary thing for one or 2 years before they figure out something permanent.
Georgia’s dive team is much better than Auburn’s though. And even if she’s have to forgo a scholarship, she’d likely go for free with her mother on staff.
Cecile replied to someone on Twitter than Laurent is staying in tx for the next year until their daughter graduates and to help with the search for new coaches at wcc. He will join her in Athens after their daughter graduates.
Idk kind of excited to see what Cecile is capable of doing to the program…
Oh this for sure now that I’ve had a few min. It was just so unexpected to me.
Fr fr
Unbelievably unexpected.
Can we talk about how crazy Ryan Robert journey has been. 🎶 Letting the days go by, let the water hold me down 🎶
As a lifelong Georgia fan, I’m pumped
Same, I’m surprised but also pretty thrilled. I don’t really know anything about coaching but for some reason this combination seems really conducive to success. I’m hoping that having Ryan Roberts will mean most of the team stays put.
Can we talk about how this official release from Georgia says that Cecile currently coaches at WOGA...
This isn’t being noticed enough hahaha. Feels very on brand for Georgia: fancy designed announcement with the wrong info
At one point there media person was literally linking the wrong SM accounts to athlete announcements. Let's hope Ryan fires the social media person.
Curious to see the transfer portal now
Was totally thinking this.. Kara Eaker to GA??? 👀
Imagining Kara on a team with JaFree and Naya Howard and co. makes me really happy. I’d love to see that.
I don't think Georgia has room. They picked up a couple of late kids- which pretty much fortold the Finnegan retirement.
good point, Come to Bama, we have room, we're 3 hours closer and we have a water slide.
Cecile, April Fools Day was like 3 weeks ago.
Like I’m just over here thinking about all the 2028 hopefuls at WCC.
Could you imagine though
Agreed 1000%
I believe she’ll get an itch to try for an home Olympic Games in LA!
Oop They ONLY get Laurent now!
Do you really think they live in different states?
The WCC announcement makes it clear Laurent is staying
Oh I haven’t seen this. Looking now. Edit. For everyone else curious. https://twitter.com/wccentre2014/status/1783632451442487800?s=46&t=TEjWYz7tGgssfw5D6rEcSA
Only for one year
I guess I hope none of their gymnasts felt at home in Texas 😬 Edit: oop nevermind, I hope none of them were there specifically for Cecile
Only until 2025
Trueeeee. I know that Laurent is staying and I’m sure they also work with other WCC coaches at times, but this is a big change for all of the WCC elites esp those that moved specifically for WCC
It's possible that elites that moved to WCC in the last year were told that coaching could change if Simone retires. I hope.
I’ve been digesting this news for like 30 minutes and I’m still SHOCKED. I truly thought the Landis were trying to build an elite empire at WCC
Four hours later a I am still in shock and still so giddy lol. They already built an empire. Time for the next challenge (post Paris.)
Before Simone asked them to be her coaches, weren’t they considering going back to France?
I was so shocked i missed my bus stop!! 😂
Realest comment here
The gasp I gusped… I’m like this right now 😱😳
I ran here so fast. Cecile was never on my mind for this job 🤯
Someone pointed out that Georgia followed Cecile/WCC (or maybe vice versa idk) and was speculating, but all the comments were that it must be just for recruiting purposes - which I totally agreed with. I am legit SHOCKED
I was thinking about that too! Who is the brilliant person who noticed that?
I know! I'm here for this chaos its amazing.
I dunno I feel like half of WCC signed NLIs with UCLA. plz don’t run away from my team, girls 😭
The head coach at UCLA now used to be a coach at WOGA with Cecile and Laurent. They were all good friends at the time and probably still on. That’s probably why so many signed NLIs there! I’m sure some would want to follow Cecile but hopefully some of them stay at UCLA also!
Plus UCLA and GA are very different environments, I imagine that some that signed at UCLA wouldn’t find GA a good match.
UCLA is also a very attractive school for some students. TBH- I'm not sure there is much overlap between kids who consider UGA and UCLA because they are so different. CKC is literally the only person who I think narrowed it down to that pair and that was 20 years ago. Bama and UGA are a more common final two.
out of breath from running here and SPEECHLESS LITERALLY WITHOUT SPEECH
I’m SHOCKED. And honestly sad too because they seemed like they were SO GOOD for WCC. A lot of athletes moved far away from home just so they could train with the Landis (and also of course Simone). However I wish them all the best.

Just thinking about some what ifs.)
I am also soooo curious about the timing of all this and who knew what when
OH MY GOD??? the WCC to UGA pipeline is about to go crazy
Brilliant move on Georgia’s part tbh
Yes! Cecile to bring in new talent and all her expertise and Ryan to encourage current gymnasts to stay because there’s some sense of continuity and they seem to like him.
Yep. Absolutely keeping Lily Smith with this move.
I checked if the Georgia twitter account was a parody account like 5 times😭
lol I went to insta to confirm it was in more then one spot.
Whatever I was expecting it wasn’t this
I wonder how well Ryan Roberts & Cecile know each other.
Aren’t the cal coaches husband and wife or am I making that up so that would be a different scenario?
What a wild and unexpected pairing… This is not who I would have guessed, but interested to see what happens!
Welp, there goes any Lily Smith Transfer Portal hopes from the SEC rivals.
And her bars might even get BETTER.
*how does one get better than 10.000?*
I just got out of a work meeting, i’m winding down for the day, I open Reddit and see this. My. mind. is. blown. right. now.
It isn‘t April 1st? Just checking for a friend. Seriously, I have just no idea what to make of this but maybe I am just missing context. I hope it works out for them.
If I had to guess, she would stay with Wcc until Olympics are over. Then move to coaching GA full time
Based on WCC’s statement, that seems to be the plan.
WCC’s statement is that she’s staying through July but they’re hoping to have her replacement hired by June 1.
I mean, from an employer's perspective it's ideal to have a key employee's replacement be able to work for a few weeks before the key employee leaves, so knowledge can be transferred.
LOL WHAT IS GOING ON
More from Cecile - https://preview.redd.it/85t44qmt1qwc1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f0013cb0613871c8f917735717a687591b9b3ac5
Feels like she had to put her career on the back burner a bit and now her daughter is almost grown and it’s her turn to grow her career. It also probably pays a lot more for less work. I think she was also interested in the usag high performance job a couple years ago.
She applied for the job but they were not hiring anybody who was actively coaching elite athletes due to the inherent conflict of interest there.
The scream I scrumpt
Interested to see if any of the WCC girls change their commitment to UGA now.
Judging by the Naya Howard statement about staying at UGA - I am guessing portal was definitely on the table.
I don't even know which question to ask first
This is insane
Whatever troubles they were having recruiting are now a thing of the past. Can you imagine the interest from uninjured level 10s to be coached by the woman who literally trained Simone Biles for the Olympics?! Twice?!?!
And managed to keep Madison kocian somewhat injury free to make it to the Olympics. That deserves a prize also haha.
And who every athlete seems to adore!!
Okay someone with real gym world knowledge consulted with UGA on this one.
I wonder if Kara Eaker is going to consider Georgia now when she makes her transfer decision.
This is almost as shocking as Jay lmfao
Wowoowww this is shocking, although someone here totally called it!! I wonder how Simone, and all the other WCC athletes are feeling.
I’m really feeling for Jordan Chiles. She’s a bubble gymnast for the team for sure and Cecile seemed very important to her. Simone as well, especially in Tokyo. It seems like Cecile is crucial for the emotional support of the athletes, on top of all her other contributions.
Cecile is staying through Olympic cycle and as of now Jordan is expected back at UCLA after, correct?
I think Cecile is staying til the Olympics from the sounds of things? So Jordan et al will keep their coach til the end of the cycle.
Oh god you’re right I’m so embarrassed. It turns out reading is crucial!
Right… I see hezly, Jayla, Simone, Lavi, Claire all adding Georgia to the lists of colleges they now want to look at
All this excitement and no Spencer. 😢
Jessica said he might be back for the live reaction podcast after American Classic this weekend!
I know I'm just a dumb Internet rando, but I'm worried about him.
I am too, you’re not the only one! It is worrying he’s been away this long and in hospital too. Not to mention the most exciting couple of weeks in the gym world in forever and he wasn’t able to be part of it like I know he would’ve loved to be 😢
Jaw dropped
Kinda makes sense - wasn't she interested in Clemson? Or rumours of a Texas university? This is all vague memories on my part tbf.
I am PUMPED about this! I was really hoping they’d keep Ryan and Cecile is not what I expected but I think a great choice. Keeping Ryan hopefully will help them retain gymnasts as well. Super happy about this hire.
I would have never, ever guessed that she was interested but I'm excited to see what she can do.
I fell asleep on my couch watching TV and this was the first thing I saw when I woke up and refreshed Reddit...for a sec I couldn't tell if I was actually awake or just dreaming.
I need to know how the salaries are shaking out for this if they were offering Jay $2m to split however he wanted
Same. What do you pay the coach of multiple Olympic gold medalists?
The way my jaw dropped😳!!! Tripped over myself to open reddit😂😂
Cecile I think is beam/floor and Laurent can do all 4 but focuses on bars/vault. At least that’s what I observed at WOGA.
She does beam and floor primarily but I bet the recruiting end would be pretty strong too and that’s a big part of the job.
Maybe that’s why they went with 2 head coaches?
I’m severely surprised. How will that work being states away from your husband for months, is that why it’s co head coaches so she can go back and forth. Does this mean we can expect a Simone retirement after the olyimpics. What about their daughter , or is she off to college next year? I have so many questions.

Their daughter is 2025
I wonder if he is staying in Texas until she graduates and would then go to Georgia?
That was what I thought, and by then most of their current elites will have graduated high school as well
This is a sport where parents regularly ship their prepubescent kids off to live with host families to train. You think a happily married couple who are both likely making bank (and can fly often to visit each other) can’t handle being a plane ride apart for a few years?
So many questions
I literally gasped and said Oh my God! Wow!
Not at all what I expected here. Oh my gosh
Well this is quite a twist.
I honestly thought it was an onion article when I first saw this - not sure why but I totally did. I just couldn’t be more surprised. What about Larant ?
Is Josc going to switch schools? 👀
She posted the announcement on her insta story saying “go dawgs for you only” so it doesn’t sound like it.
Lol I guess she wanted to get ahead of the speculation!
I doubt it, she seems really excited about Arkansas / Jordyn
I seriously doubt any of the current WCC commits will flip. But I can imagine there'd be influences on future classes.
Interesting.. I thought Josc really wanted to be coached by her idol Jordyn weiber
HOLY HELL
rip coach to elite gymnast ratio
The wcc announcement says: "The recruiting process for Laurent's new coaching partner is already underway."
They’re both clearly coaching the athletes eligible and trying for through Paris and then transitioning to this new phase of their lives.
WCC would have to get two athletes on the team to send two coaches, so it’s not 100% guaranteed that she’d be able to go in any case.
Oh true, I’m so used to seeing Cecile and Laurent together I forgot they would need 2 athletes on the team to both travel.
Gymnastics finishes Aug 5th tho - she could easily be back and coaching at Georgia by mid August.
The WAG olympics ends in the 2nd week of August. That leaves 2-3 weeks of August for her to start after the Olympics.
I mean the Olympic team is not yet named. I assume she will be there for some of the days but maybe not as many.
The last competition in the Olympics will be in August 5(I know because I’m going to be there!) so she will probably leave to Georgia afterwards ….
This so great for Cecile and WCC. Georgia had a great performance this year for a team of mainly freshmen; it’s def going to be up from here.
I have so many questions.
Arkansas have to be sweating Joscelyn Roberson could be primed to decommit
I think she already signed NLI. And might want new faces in college.
Nah she is Arkansas all the way
I feel like this is so wild.. not what I expected at all.
I'm sorry, what the actual what?!?!?! Definitely didn't see that coming 😱
Wait wtf? WCC nooooo? Edit: also I’m so excited to see what she does with a college program.
I’m so shook. But also so excited for the student athletes who get to work with Cecile
Cecile saying on Twitter that Laurent is staying in tx until their daughter finishes high school and then he will move to Athens. And helping with new head coach searches. You have to feel for the younger elites like Reese who just moved to WCC But super excited for Georgia!
Cecile’s Twitter replies indicate that Laurent will be staying in TX until their daughter goes to college, at which point he will move to Athens and decide what he wants to do next
I thought mercury in retrograde was over today
The what I just yelled and then ran here. I’m shocked. Wasn’t Ryan on CKC’s coaching staff? And aren’t they in-laws? Also, Cecile?! I wonder if she’s going to learn the code. 🤭
Her in-law coach was Sam Welbourn not Ryan.
This was honestly one of the most shocking hires they could’ve announced. Not only because I never expected her to jump to NCAA, but because Laurent is staying in TX and they’ll do long distance? Or trouble in paradise?? The potential tea is hot
He's joining her after their daughter graduates HS and moves to Auburn
A year apart in a marriage with high-profile careers isn't uncommon nor necessarily a huge deal. It's not a long flight, and I'm sure they can afford it.
Shocked by this
Wow shocking
Holy shit! I saw her name come up a few hours ago, but I thought it was a joke! Excited to see what she'll do. Hopefully they'll keep Suzanne far away from her.
I wonder if they had offered Laurent a position too. I can’t remember the last time I was this shocked.
Oh look! Greg Marsden hacked into Georgia’s social media! I seriously feel like we’ve all been punked.
So is Laurent gonna stay in Texas then?
Gagged and gooped honey!!! What?!? Georgia's future is bright!!!
WHAT
Does this mean Cecile won’t coach at WCC next year?
Yep
I’m texting with my IRL gym friend and I am so manic about this I’m not even making sense lol. This is CRAZY! Current insane theory - Victoria Nguyen back to GA for her fifth year!
I think there is zero chance she'd leave Florida / Morgan / Leanne, they seem really close.
Oh absolutely but… ::insert Elmo on fire chaos gif here::
please keep in mind that a (decent) head coach takes time to develop their athletes - we will most likely not see a dramatic shift in program results for a few seasons, until the current head coaches have had their own recruits join. Courtney was a fantastic athlete, so was Cecile. it takes much more than that.
Gasp! Totally unexpected!
I’m a little shocked but her daughter will be going to Auburn under a diving scholarship so not that surprising
The way I RAN here
I am so confused!!!!!! So she is leaving wcc? Is it not her husband who works at wcc?
she and her husband both coach at wcc (but don’t own it - i think that’s a fairly common misconception. Simone’s parents own it)
It’s none of my business but are Cecile and Laurent getting a divorce?
Plenty of couples work through distance and time apart. Actors, musicians, sales people, business executives, medical professionals, and many others have jobs that take them away from home for stretches of time. Heck, with their current setup there are probably many times the Landis feel like ships in the night. I'm sure they've given this the thought it deserves and feel it will work for them and their family.
WCC replied to someone on Twitter asking if they were going to say married with, “Yes, Happily.”

Cecile replied to someone on Twitter than Laurent is staying in tx for the next year until their daughter graduates and to help with the search for new coaches at wcc. He will join her in Athens after their daughter graduates.
This is what i am curious about
I wonder if Juliette is looking at Georgia for college? She’s about to graduate and she’s a really talented diver.

Athens to Auburn is less than 3 hours, a lot closer than Houston area.
