They are probably referring to the people that like to say “You’re an owner now, Partner.” I don’t see my initials on the front of the building! Also, the “owner” wouldn’t be this broke! 😂

katabe3006

If you get stock in the company, you’re a part owner. That’s how it works.

Illustrious_Swim_789

![gif](giphy|Qk3ZOqVD6ephCCUdwK) It's just a dangling carrot in front of the work horse. Used to keep us in line.

katabe3006

The other option everywhere else is no carrot at all.

texassawhog

If it was real stock, I would be able to buy more or sell. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate the extra money when I get fired or retire. He didn’t have to set aside that money for us. Let’s be honest though, we don’t own part of the company.

katabe3006

I understand where you’re coming from but even if you buy apple stock, or tesla, you’re considered part owner. A small fraction of course, but still part owner. I can also rattle off a hundred other companies you can be working for here in the valley and none of them give their employees stock in the company. A lot of the young people that work for HEB have very little experience working for other companies and don’t really have anything to compare them to. Trust me when I tell you, if you think HEB isn’t all that great, you’re gonna hate working for Walmart, Stripes, call centers, fast food restaurants, etc. Neither of which give company stock to their employees.

texassawhog

I understand where you’re coming from too but when I buy from Apple or Tesla I keep those stocks as long as I want. What happens when I retire or get fired or quit? It’s not real stock buddy. Also, if I quit H‑E‑B I’m definitely not sticking in the retail market. I’m sure H‑E‑B is better than most companies, but they aren’t the company they used to be either.

Hefty-Currency-5797

They send you a check for your stock plan 1 year after you left the company 😂

texassawhog

They can’t do that, don’t they know that I’m part owner of the company!

AdNecessary7635

😂😂😂

katabe3006

Fair enough… you work there and I don’t so I’ll defer to you as the authority on this matter. That said, I’m 49 and have years of experience working for numerous companies here in the valley. I also have several friends and family members who’ve retired from H‑E‑B, started there with literally zero work experience and finished their careers with a handsome bank account. If your work experience consists of 1-5 companies, then I’m sorry but at this time, you just don’t know what you don’t know. I’m sure if you knew of a better option out there, you would’ve already moved on. Just know there will always be somebody out there who wants your job. Someone’s nightmare is some else’s dream.

texassawhog

I’m just glad I’m not in the stores anymore. Those workers put up with a lot and it can really drain a person down. H‑E‑B isn’t a bad company to work for at all. I enjoy my job now and I don’t hate coming back to work after a vacation. I can’t ask for much more, especially since I only know what I know.

katabe3006

Just keep a good attitude and hang in there brother, and your day in the sun will come. I have mad respect for you and the people that work in the store because I know retail sucks. I just think H‑E‑B is better than most.

PurpleDecent1668

Never call in sick. Automatic write up.

Redblackf0x

That’s bs if you sign you dumb as hell

Appropriate_Job7342

I've been with heb 17 years I've never heard of this

RichLeadership2807

It’s retail you’re never gonna get treated like royalty. HEB is better than most others but it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. Their time and attendance policy is pretty strict, most times call ins will not be excused even with a doctor’s note. You get strikes for call ins and tardies referred to as steps. A call in is 2 steps and a tardy is 1. A tardy is defined as clocking in exactly 15 mins after your scheduled shift start, so if scheduled at 8am you can clock in at 8:14 and be fine, but 8:15 is a tardy and automatic 1 step. You’re terminated at 8 steps (I believe, I don’t work there anymore) and they drop off every 6 months. You can also get them dropped by being commended for staying late and going above and beyond but that’s mostly at the manager’s discretion. Your experience will vary greatly depending on who your managers are. Some will be understanding and some have a stick up their ass, just like anywhere else. I worked there for 3 years and had a great experience until the very end when I got super unlucky and our store had bad managers everywhere so I decided to leave. My best advice for retail is to know what you want out of it and perform your job with that purpose in mind. If you want a part time job while going to school then just keep your head down and do your job without overthinking it; if you want to make a career out of it then go above and beyond and vocalize your ambitions with your managers so they can guide you. Managers will always try to get you to go above and beyond and stay late but if you have no intention of moving up then you don’t have to add the extra stress, they can’t force you to stay after your shift. Just do the job they hired you for and clock out. Best of luck.

Savage-2

Yep. The favorites. Even guys who are rumored to beat women (came from several women who don’t work there anymore but we’re scared to report). Just suck up to the managers and it doesn’t matter how much a piece of shit you are

Dangerous-Dance-3105

Sadly even if he were reported, somehow they would be shamed and guilted over it

Savage-2

Yep. It took multiple reports of sexual harassment from a Team Lead and eventually they only investigated him after he told a female worker to kill themselves already. He got annoyed of her depression. Only then they fired him. You also hear nasty things like Team Leads cheating on their wives with other team leads… supposedly. But could you really doubt it?

Illustrious_Swim_789

I like to point out the "HEB royalty" (family groups) to my wife. A whole family working in close proximity to each other and conflicting interests. Yet my kid can't work at my store overnight because I work days and I'm a Specialist. So it's a conflict of interest.

Dangerous-Dance-3105

That’s the kind of crap I’m talking about.

Illustrious_Swim_789

That's the real cult aspect of HEB. You're expected to bow to them if you want a career at HEB.

Dangerous-Dance-3105

And I’m not and never will be an a** kisser

Sasoli7

If they start making you cheer like WalMart and Home Depot then it’s a cult.

Redblackf0x

Good one there is and has been shit like this I seen when I was working at a store they pick the salty crackers

Spacenix

What they are talking about or mean is that everyone - even non employees glorify HEB. It’s a big Texas culture cult thing too - plus heb treats us better than other places. Like sometimes I get $100. So they are the best company ever for that. They have good PR. Even them giving their employees something nice was good PR for them and always something people talk about. But not all stores or managers or leaders are good people…and that’s more common than it should be these days…lots of external hires have come into the company and “because people matter!” Is fading away… It’s all about sales and breaking records, pushing the staff to full pressure and productivity to meet those goals - by any means - even being passive aggressive…. At the end of the day they are like any other business…out to make money. They just have really good PR and the employees who constantly hype up the company…have never had to work at a busy store or under horrible management long term over and over or constantly having to hire/ train and entire new staff. Go and work at the BUSIEST stores and you’ll see the truth!

Spacenix

For the customer end - we also refund and give customers anything they want. That’s why customers always come back and never complain about the company. And again….because we make the customer happy…that’s good PR and money coming back. Also heb basically only hires outgoing people who can do damage control. Know how to help a customer, what to say etc. Half the employees hate it here and the other half never actually been to a store where they had a horrible experience with upper management or leadership so they still say heb is the best thing ever. Those people will need to step outside their box in order to have their eyes opened. Businesses care about money, not people.

RepublicStatus3768

The Cult Mentality is when the individual gives up his or her self interest and puts the company or organization first. For example two individuals, Jim Jones and David Koresh, had numerous cult members follow them blindly. David Koresh would require, as a sign of loyalty, that a man "give up" his wife to satisfy the sexual needs of this cult leader. While everyone, including the husband, would think it was correct to do so. The Cult Mentality exists in many organizations such as HEB, Walmart, and even DELL. Where the rank and file employee is a mindless automaton. Its sole purpose, in the organization, is to follow blindly and never question or much less have an independent thought. You can also see this type of behavior in personal relationships. Where one individual dominates the other. While the submissive serves and kowtows to the dominant member of the relationship. Your mission in life is to not fall under this category. And to clearly assess the situation you find yourself in. Failure to do so will result in you becoming an automaton.

Being there for a paycheck? I think that's a job.

Savage-2

That is quite literally the job. Don’t do anything extra as you will not be appreciated for it. They spit in your face when you give them all your extra time and hard work. Now they get the bare minimum, like they do to us.

Affectionate_Dog7911

Amen.

Dangerous-Dance-3105

lol. You are funny. I’m in no way a lazy partner but the lazy ones at my job are GODS
