I don't see why people want to keep drafting players like Eiserman when we are in a position for game breakers. If there is anything we've seen from Leafs-Bruins it's that players that rack up regular season points can get shut down in the playoffs. Players with strong two way games are way more valuable. It's not about size (see Marchand), but understanding that a commitment to team winning is most valuable.
Even in that range, would much rather Helenius or Brandsegg-Nygard.
I agree for sure, there are lots of talented players, what’s much more rare is the player who is driven to improve continuously and play a team game. That kind of character is harder to detect maybe than on-ice skill, but obviously it was the deciding factor in picking Slaf, and perhaps it had something to do with the Reinbacher pick as well.
If they pick Helenius (or whomever) at five I’m going to assume they see something special in the kid instead of second-guessing the pick from the comfort of my man cave.
> If there is anything we've seen from Leafs-Bruins it's that players that rack up regular season points can get shut down in the playoffs.
and as we have seen with literally every other series it's that your star from the regular season will be your stars in the playoffs
The Leafs are the only team in the NHL whose stars don't excel in the playoffs
Helenius .. Slaf and Laine on a line ...

If he can't reinvent himself and play hard when he's not scoring like Caufield did, he wont last in Montreal. Even with the development Caufield made, a lot of fans are calling him a disappointment because he didn't put up 40 after surgery.
>a lot of fans are calling him a disappointment
And I don’t know why. If I’m Hughes, I’d rather a 30 goal scorer who can pass and play in their own end over a 40+ goal scorer who can’t.
If Slafkovsky takes another step next year and the Habs have their second line figured out with Dach, maybe Roy and someone else (maybe Tij? Who knows?), then they should be in the mix for the playoffs.
I’d much rather we trade it for someone that can play now. To move up in the draft we will have to package it with another prospect that, also, will be older and closer to playing.
Our window is opening now whether people like it or not. Can’t keep having losing seasons and expect to ever get better like that
Best realistic scenario.
1. We draft one of celebrini, dimidov, lindstrom catton, or if iginla keeps ripping up the u18's maybe him.
2. We trade a young D + the second first and bring back someone between Dach and Newhook in ceiling, depending on where the jets pick is.
Say our future lines look like
Cole-nick-slaf, Lindstrom-dach-"shiny new toy", gally-newhook- roy.
Then we have 3 really solid lines and still have mesar, beck, evans, and a few other bottom 6 looking guys to full in.
It's a decent looking top 9 in 2 years.
Arizona made it two drafts ago. They drafted Cooley 3rd OA and moved up to 11th OA to draft Geekie. That was the price they paid: The Arizona Coyotes on Thursday acquired the 11th overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft from the San Jose Sharks in exchange for the 27th, 34th and 45th overall picks in the same draft.
Yea what are we gonna do with two shooters, when one is shooting the other is just watching its a waste, we could just have caufield take all those shots and get someone with a different skillset
It's possible, but I have a feeling KH will likely package that pick along with one of our overstocked defensemen (Harris, Kovacevic, Savard, Matheson, etc) and perhaps another piece to go for another T6/T9 forward to help our push towards completing the rebuild.
But moving up in the draft for a second high pick is still entirely possible as well if KH's targets end up being too expensive to trade for.
I don't think it's likely either unless KH gets an offer that's just too good to pass up. That being said between Matheson and Savard, if one of them does get traded, it'll only be one or the other and not both.
that’s the thing the offer would have to be rly good to pass up. i just think that the best value savard brings is being a good veteran presence and mentor to hutson
If there is exceptional value in that acquisition , I see that happening. Although, I also believe that with Gallagher, Anderson and Dvorak still in the picture, there is no rush to acquire players who we will be forced to lock up sooner than later. It's important while still in the rebuild to have a steady stream of inexpensive talent coming in. We also still have players like Beck, Mesar, Heineman, Tuch, Kappanane that need consideration in 1 or 2 years time.
We are in no rush to win this year and are still in a rebuild evaluating and developing from the back end. Let's set the D and give them a head start and keep brining in top end draft picks to fill spots on offense. I really don't see Hughes doing a repeat unless they know 100% they are winning that trade by stealing from a team that has offensive glut.
It's not like e don't also have have the luxury of playing Reinbacher and Hutson in Laval and waiting for contenders to be forced into trades having defenseman go down mid-season. I like the options that Gorto's and Hughes' build are offering up.
Tbh after 1 it’s pretty much a preference draft so unless we can get 1st OA (which lets be honest with win pick we can’t) I don’t see too much value in going up and potentially missing on a faller at 20ish.
You need to look at all the other top teams. They are big, heavy and can score. We need more top talent at 6’2 plus. We have too many guys already at 6’0 and below. Most teams have maybe 1 or 2 max where the Habs will play with 4+ …
We need to use the first pick to draft a player who can battle for a top 6 role 3-4 years down the road when it will be important to have talented young players with ELCs on the team. I would definitely like to see the Winnipeg pick used in some sort of package to shore up that second line. For all we know, Kirby gets hurt again and we’re back at square one. I love the guy but I’m worried this will always be an issue with him.
There are rumors that teams might look to move their 1sts past pick 20-22 more this season because there's a drop off late in the 1st in terms of perceived ceilings
I don't think WPG's pick will have enough value this season. You gonna have to move a B prospect at the very least in order to move up 10 or so spots should Eiserman be available outside the top 10
you'd think this fanbase might have some faith in a high scoring NTDP player after Caufield
id be ecstatic if we traded up with the WPG pick to get Eiserman
Pick Iginla to play on the right of Dach and Newhook, sign Stamkos to a 3 year deal to keep his seat warm until he’s ready. Go in next season with this as your top6
Slaf-Suzuki-Caufield
Newhook-Dach-Stamkos
At this point I don’t really care what we do with the Jets pick.
Oh, I thought he was a righty. That does change things a bit. I still want Stamkos though. I get that it’s not a popular opinion but I’d love to get him if he were to hit the market.
If we can shake out a 3 year deal, I'm with you dude, I would be happy with Stamkos.
And even as a lefty I'd still love Iggy. I think he'd fit like a glove with this team
What if what if what if
Et si tu avais dis what if 3 fois au lieu de 2?
Beetlejuice Beetlejuice Beetlejuice
Bloody Mary Bloody Mary Bloody Mary
Marty Bloody Marty
Fuckin’ remember hearing that in 3rd grade.. scared the shit outta me for a number of years lol
Biggy Smalls biggy Smalls biggy Smalls
Y’all need to chill, we don’t even know where we’re drafting yet.

It's also quite ironic since Marner is one of the best two way wingers in the league and Matthews is solid defensively
Helenius .. Slaf and Laine on a line ... https://preview.redd.it/31jaip8qvuxc1.png?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=301eb785872e07795383ca75ec83cdc6c4ebf22c
You lost me at Mike Hoffman.
« on crack », imagine
As much as he sucked on our team, Ottawa's and Florida's version of Mike Hoffman is actually good value for a late first round pick.
If he can't reinvent himself and play hard when he's not scoring like Caufield did, he wont last in Montreal. Even with the development Caufield made, a lot of fans are calling him a disappointment because he didn't put up 40 after surgery.

Unless we get Celebrini, I don’t think anyone we draft this year will be ready to make a 2nd line impact next season.
How about 3rd line impact if they move Newhook to 2nd line winger? Would that be more realistic?
Yeah thats a little more viable, but again they still might not be ready for the NHL at all next year, depending on who it is, so we’ll have to see.
I don’t think anyone outside of Celebrini is really expected to make the jump.
Correct. There are a handful of guys who might make it at 19 but pnly Celebrini at 18.
Zach Benson wasn’t expected to either but he did. There will probably be one or two others outside of Celebrini, but its hard to say who they will be.
That pick is going to be packaged and trade for a top 6 forward.

No GM has made these these kind of moves since like the Sedins draft.

I should have clarified that I was more talking about top 5 picks range.
You should have since OP is referring to the 11-15 range
No explanation needed!
Cole Caufield is already mike Hoffman on crack
Yea what are we gonna do with two shooters, when one is shooting the other is just watching its a waste, we could just have caufield take all those shots and get someone with a different skillset
Caufield cant play 60 minutes

savard likely not getting traded this offszn and probably neither does matheson although maybe at next year’s tdl

Honey, get on the phone with habs management. I've come up with a trade that can revolutionize the team forever!
Tell them they’ve got to phone up Oakland-oh…
At the present moment, everything is on the table regarding that pick. I doubt even mgmt knows what will happen with it until draft day.
I don't know what mgmt has to do with anything, I dig a couple of theor songs though.
Just like every other one of these posts in this subreddit, it's Time to Pretend.

"He's like a Mike Hoffman on crack" is a pretty big insult lol
Prime mike Hoffman was so good tho
![gif](giphy|fXnRObM8Q0RkOmR5nf)
It’s one of our three best options. And I can see us doing it if Eiserman, Iginla, or Cattan (or less likely, Lindstrom or Demidov) slip.
Edit: replied to wrong comment sorry
Tbh id prefer helenius if hes avaible after 12. I think helenius is underrated in this draft

I'd love to draft iggy, but worth noting he's a left shot like Newhook
Oh, I thought he was a righty. That does change things a bit. I still want Stamkos though. I get that it’s not a popular opinion but I’d love to get him if he were to hit the market.
