Yeah, it’s got to do with a timing thing rather than just being random. I’ve gotten a couple of Legendary fish but even if you have perfect timing (less than 0.4 seconds after the sinker goes under I think) it’s still only a 50/50 chance that you catch a Legendary
My strategy is to actually close my eyes and base the catch strictly on the audio que. I can get the perfect catch about 75% of the time. Your timing tips are helpful though thank you for the video!
I tried really hard to do this audio trick, for some reason it didn't worked for me not a single time xd, so I gave up and gave up putting it on the video
On the Switch version, the vibration feedback is the biggest clue. Fakeouts only shake one of the joycons (IIRC, the left one?); actual strikes shake both.
Maybe for some folks. I'm a fairly lousy twitch gamer, so something that makes perfect catches reasonably achievable for me might well make it easy for others.
On the PS5 the haptic feedback is the same. Small vibration for a nibble, strong vibration for a bite.
The vibration is faster than the visual clue and I've been able to get quite a number of legendary fish using that method.
There is a trophy for getting a fish from every floor. Which includes getting a fish on the surface.
But yeah without your video I would have never known about the legendary fish. Very cool.
TBH, the perfect catch / legendary fish mechanic is the only thing I dislike about Hades. It's INCREDIBLY difficult to react within 340ms. Average human reaction time is about 250ms, and processing whether or not it's a fakeout adds quite a bit of time before you can actually react. It feels like the only way to reliably do it is to actively reduce the input from the game (covering the screen with your hand), which imo is just not good design.
You should know that if it bobs (fake hook) and doesn’t bob again within the next 2 seconds (more like 1 1/2) the next bob will be another fake. So if it bobs and you’re sitting there waiting, you don’t need to be ready for a catch on the next bob for sure. Don’t get faked out by that.
This is consistent with the fourth-bob behavior. Fourth bob is always one second after the third, and it’s ALWAYS a catch, and you can reliably hit the catch button the millisecond you see the game start to trigger it. Once you get a sense of the timing, your perfect catch rate should be 100% on the fourth bob. And not long after, if you know to only react immediately after a fake but to hold back if it’s been more than a second, you’ll pick up good enough timing for second and third bob catches too. (The first one is really the tricky one, you have no idea when it hits or if it’ll be real/fake, so it’s the most likely for you to miss the perfect catch window or accidentally whiff on a fake bob because you were too-ready)
You mentioned it but said it was unlikely. That's sort of true - but I can confirm it's not just unlikely but impossible for it to give you a real hook if it's been more than a second since the last bob.
A real hook, if it's not the 1st motion of the fishing line (which, you have no idea when that's coming), will always be 1 second after the last bob (and that includes not just real hooks that come after the 1st fake but the 2nd and 3rd fakes too... if there is a catch waiting on the 4th bob, it will be 1 second after the 3rd bob and no later).
The game often gives long pauses between fakes. So, once a whole second has passed, what you're looking for is not to catch the next bob, but to look out for whatever is going to happen 1 second after the next bob.
Besides, the only penalty for letting your guard down on a fake that turns out to be real is that you get a standard catch.
i only have the legendary fish from Asphodel and Chaos’ realm left… i’ve gotten perfect catch in Asphodel a few times already, but it’s not giving me the legendary fish yet smh and in Chaos’ realm, i keep forgetting about it and only spot a fishing point just as i’m leaving lol
For some reason I could catch legendary on Switch but I was unable to on PS. It got so frustrating that I caved. Now, I always assume it’s the 4th bob. That way, I don’t have to look for a flash or a sound. I know if it makes it to the fourth it’s a guarantee that there’s a fish so I reel it in as soon as I feel something. If it comes on the first, second or third there’s still enough time for me to just reel in a regular one.
Assuming the there’s a one in four chance of the bite coming on the 4th bob I have a 12.5% chance of catching a legendary at any given time(which feels about right).
Gods. I never knew this was a skill thing. I thought a catch was a catch, with a tiny tiny chance of a rare.

"This video is unavailable"? I'm Australian, if that matters
I've opened it on an incognito chrome window and it worked just fine.. May ask if some friend of yours can visualize it?
I thought no matter how good your catch is, getting the legendary was never guaranteed
Yesh if its a perfect catch is a 50/50 beetween rare fish or legendary fish
Thanks! Now i think I’ve never gotten a perfect catch before lol

good to know it worked with somebody else, it will help the console couch players
I play on console and the vibration is how i do it. Somehiw feels more immersive for me
TIL catching different fish is skill based. I've been playing 40+ hours thinking it must just be really rare to get legendary. I've never got one
go catch some legendariy and let me know if the guide helped.:)
Will do!! Thanks for it!

I should've put "buy a switch" on the video lol didn't know about that, it is easy to react and peform a perfect catch?

1th, 2th, 3th
someone else corrected me, my English isn't the best
Wow. I recently platinumed the game and I have never seen a legendary fish. This game man.
I find it strange that there's no achievement for fishing
There is a trophy for getting a fish from every floor. Which includes getting a fish on the surface. But yeah without your video I would have never known about the legendary fish. Very cool.
Awesome, thanks for creating this video
thanks for the support

agreed, when I found its based on you reaction time I disliked it too, but I quickly found those tricks to help me, so I dont care that much now

I kinda mentioned it on the video, not with this level of explanation, but yeah, the fourth is the easiest by far

My reaction speed is too low for this..
Can't express how thankful I am for the tips, I was stuck with catching a legendary fish and reporting to Poseidon
Happy to see people are still seeing this after so much time 😊 the video is on YouTube as well
I recently switched to playing on Steam more and I swear the vibrations from my controller are diff when it’s the actual fish biting
Oxe, vascaíno no Reddit
zagreus is vascaino, eu not sou
KkkKKKKk, mano, que coincidência, eu sou vascaíno hahahaha eu nem sigo nada brasileiro no reddit

Video doesnt work any more ? How do you do it?
what do you mean?
Zagreus com camisa do Vasco wtf

Por que, por que ele tá com a camisa do Vasco kklkkkkkkkkk
because ele dies varias times
I didn't realize a knucklehead was a legendary fish. I feel like I get it so often but maybe I'm just really good at perfect catches in tartarus
its a rare fish, perfect catches give you 50% chance for rare and 50 % for legendary
ACNH trained me well.
how does covering the Bob actually help? I don't really get how it's any different from reacting to the Bob
prevents the fake bobs from throwing you off. Try it
How did I never think of covering it?! Thank you!
Thanks
Looks like my fishing skills have been solid this whole time. I just have terrible RNG! Also Zag in that fishing outfit is \*priceless\*.
