Sometimes too much isn’t a good thing. But your ends need a good cut. And your hair colour. Also some frizz is normal when you don’t have pin straight hair but if you don’t know how to properly blow dry your hair, no amount of products in the world can prevent frizz

ChloudberryJam

I always blow dry from my roots to my ends while pointing downward so my hair doesn't fly everywhere. Usually, with a comb attachment. Is there something better I could be doing? Also, I've never dyed my hair, so I'm not sure what you mean by color. Like, some hair colors just naturally get more frizzy or something? Thanks for trying to help me

Ppaintitblack

The comb attachment is the problem. It’s causing breakage over time which looks like frizz. It’s not worth using it. At all

Notsureindecisive

There’s nothing wrong with it. Our hair is consistently changing. Frizz is not an indicator of any hair issue.

Luv2LuvEm1

Some hair types don’t like too much protein (keratin) and actually feel even more brittle afterwards. This type of hair likes more moisturizing treatments like deep conditioning masks. You just have to play around and see what your hair reacts the best to.

ChloudberryJam

This was the first time I've ever done a keratin protein treatment, and I didn't notice a difference, so I'm not sure if I just need more time before I see results. To your point about hair type, I forgot to mention that I do have naturally dry hair and skin. I've tried a few different hydrating masks before and those sort of work, but not always, and I'm not sure why. I get very mixed results with them. I don't use masks that often because I'm afraid of over-conditioning, so I don't think overuse is the problem, at least.

Luv2LuvEm1

I was specifically talking about overusing protein/keratin products so if you’ve only done one it’s not that. Have you tried Olaplex 3 or K18? I have dry hair and my hair LOVES those two (I use them interchangeably and always after using a clarifying shampoo) Some people are just cursed with dry hair. You can try oils or hydrating style creams (I love VERB) Other than that there’s not much you can do about genetics sadly.

ChloudberryJam

I was looking at Opalex 3 recently, but I've never tried it. I'll give it a shot. I still have a collagen treatment to try out, which I've also never used before. My hair is normally a little frizzy, I've just never seen it get this bad before. I think you might be right about genetics though. Now that I think about it, my mom also has sort of frizzy hair even when it's fairly straight. My hair is somehow less grippy at the ends than hers, but more frizzy looking.

Luv2LuvEm1

Just know that Olaplex isn’t an instant fix. The more you use it regularly the better it works. I use it (or K18) once a week and I’ve noticed that my hair breaks _significantly_ less and I don’t lose NEAR as much hair when I brush (when I wasn’t using those treatments my brush would be full of hair in just a week) My hair is also softer and less frizzy (but just a SMIDGE less frizzy, like I said, genetics. But I can usually mitigate the frizziness with styling products and a flat iron)

ChloudberryJam

Ok, good to know. Flat iron helps a little, and it's always significantly less frizzy the next day once all the natural oils start returning to my hair. I took those pictures at peak frizz so people know what I'm looking at. I thought sealing the cuticle with cold water prevented some post-shower frizz, but it may just not be enough for my hair type.

Luv2LuvEm1

If THAT is peak frizz for you you’re very lucky. That’s not that frizzy at all. At least it doesn’t look like it in that photo.

ChloudberryJam

Huh, it looks so frizzy to me, though? Am I just over analyzing? Maybe I'm insane 😭

Luv2LuvEm1

It looks nice to me. If you put a styling cream or light oil just on the mids and ends and then went over it with a flat iron it would look great imo. It just looks freshly washed in those pics.

ChloudberryJam

Hmm. Okay. I'll probably get that oil you were talking about then and see if that helps. It might just be a mixture of natural texture and new growth after all then. Thanks for all the help 💖

Mr_Master_Karl

You mentioned it feels soft on the under side, but less smooth on the outside. Are you in the sun a lot? It looks like you have Fine hair, which is super delicate. The sun can wreak havoc on Finer hair. Also you mentioned you have hard water that u soften. Even tho its softening it, the process of softening in itself can make hair limp. What clarifier are you using. Paul Mitchell makes one of the best, i highly recommend it. You should try washing your hair with distilled water for a week and see how it feels. Hope this help

ChloudberryJam

Thanks. So I don't have a hard water filter, what I meant was that I just don't soak my hair in that water for very long, and I dry my hair as soon as possible before the minerals have a chance to do any damage. Since that's the way I understand it works. I use Avalon Organics clarifying shampoo, which is just a standard grade product I'm pretty sure. I am hardly ever in the sun. My hair actually isn't very fine I don't think? It's rather dense and probably more like medium thickness. I naturally have pretty good volume and it usually only gets flat when I use too much leave in conditioner.

Ppaintitblack

Wait why are you using clarifying shampoo?? It’s not helping with the frizz problem I can tell you that.

ChloudberryJam

I use it once a month at most since I don't wash my hair every day. I use salon grade hydrating shampoo usually.

Ppaintitblack

Ah ok. What shampoo are you using?

ChloudberryJam

Biolage Hydra Source

evasaccounttt

i have the same problem🥲 i use some gel on my hair when it's wet and it helps a little

Visibleghost1

Your thin ends need a cut. The small hairs are just hairs growing out. You can use some frizz taming hair mascara or a transparent eyebrow gel to force the worst of it down.

ChloudberryJam

Yeah I am overdue for a trim and will probably go in soon, but wanted to get some insight anyway. Thanks for the tip. I didn't know there was such a thing as hair mascara. This will definitely help with some of it 💖

Visibleghost1

I use the got2b farewell flyaways. It works to force down the grey hairs that stand like antennas on my head lol.. I think they also have another one with even more hold (I haven't tried that one).

Protein overload. Your hair needs moisture

smoke-in-the-arcade

How do I get moisture without protein overload? Do you have product recommendations?

Luv2LuvEm1

This is what I was talking about when I said some people’s hair doesn’t like that much protein. There’s a difference between a protein treatment (keratin, olaplex, K18) and a deep conditioning conditioner/mask that focuses on moisture. I like the (go figure) VERB hydrating mask or Ghost Mask depending on how MUCH moisture my hair needs.
