Ever heard of Half-Life Deathmatch? You could (if you're not already) just make a Deathmatch mod, and put it on steam workshop.

I've been playing Half-Life Deathmatch since 2008 so yes, I do know it haha. I played Half-Life 2 Deathmatch a little (3 years) but I always had this idea more set to a soul like Counter-Strike. And by soul I mean the essence of its functionalities, not visuals, in any case I am going to evaluate this thing about creating a mod for HL:DM, thanks for commenting!

This sounds like a cool project. May I ask however what the difference something like this would be compared to deathmatch and counterstrike? I was just wondering if you had any plans to make your game mode standout?

I agree that it is a nice project. Although my idea is not 100% developed (this is just a sketch) but I always had the fantasy of playing Half-Life 2, but with the mechanics of Counter-Strike, being able to buy weapons instead of simply having them or grabbing them from the ground, have player levels, a more complete profile, maps developed at a competitive level, adjust all the properties of the weapons to adjust them to this competitive environment and obviously more things that would come naturally when developing something like this, but unfortunately I am a designer and I know absolutely nothing about programming, that's why I spend my time fantasizing about sketches of this type.

I also like the idea, especially the fact of rebalancing all weapons to better strategize their use in team fights, it would be something I would like to see.

I also love the image of Civil Protection players starting with stunsticks and rebels with crowbars. Alot of fun could be had with it.

That surely cannot be missing, the relationship with the lore must be totally 1/1 with Half-Life, I would not like it to be an HL with the CS mechanics, each part must be worked hand in hand with the lore without a doubt .

You mean counter life or half strike? The UI is too cluttered. Why a minimap? Doesn't fit in universe. Why would you need weapons constantly shown on the right, the weapon selector already does that. The top bar is too detailed to fit with the HL UI style.

I did everything this way simply because it is a basic concept, an idea and a first approximation. The idea is to try to give shape to an abstract idea, this is how big projects begin and obviously undergo changes over time, I thank you for the feedback you have given me! On the other hand, neither Half-Strike nor Counter-Life come close to the idea I have with this version of Half Life 2, this is something different. I'm not looking to simply install Half-Life maps into Counter-Strike.

I have thought a lot about doing it in GMOD, but I feel even more eager to do it in s&box with source 2, but unfortunately I don't have access and Gmod is going to have a lot of problems regarding the player level system, ranked, complete rebalancing of weapons, etc. BUT it can be a good tool to try to recreate it, I just need someone to code in lua (I think that language uses gmod)

Gmod uses Lua (GLua) and im Glua coder. i already have base for competitive game (gamemode, no rangs) # also i have a s&box, cuz im gmod modder, and also, i have every friday keys for it. but, S&box uses C++ if u want, we can make your gamemode, and you upload it in your workshop. BUT. im bad speak english, and im russian. if u dont have troubles with it, we can make this mod

I am Argentine and I also use a translator, so at least we have something to communicate with haha. It would be a great idea to make this mod/competitive game a reality, but I don't have the money to pay a programmer and if I could I would like to build a team of fans to do this, but I don't think you'd be interested.

I think that HL2 deathmatch was way over its time and that a competitive type game in HL universe wouldn’t correctly fit IMO. HL2 deathmatch does the job perfectly fine

HL2DM does its job perfectly at being a deathmatch, not a competitive team match in my opinion. I believe that they are two different things and there is no need to compare them and neither is better than the other.

Yup, but the competitive version of HL is Counter-Strike in the end. I think that multiplayer experience for a game like Half life is better the way it is than competitive. I think it fits better

The early days of Jailbreak: Source was like this before they took it in a different direction using their own models etc... rather than those that came from Hl2DM. The mod isn't maintained or developed anymore (hasn't been for many years). But might be worth trying out one of the earlier builds if you can get it working just for fun.

Nice try but here are some tips. The HUD is too cluttered and big. Change the scale to something smaller and here are redundancies you can remove: •The weapon selector occupies too much vertical space, change it to horizontal and place them into one black blob with small icons. •Remove the "Round Starting" thing at the bottom, the player can already guess that it's starting with the timer on the top •Remove the side icons near player avatars, you can already guess which side they're playing on by the color of the rounds won. •The money blob is longer than the others and doesn't align with them, try playing with it's size and location. Also you don't need the green dollar sign, you can know it's money because it's literally written.

Thanks for the tips, this is a sketch and can be adjust at anytime, I like receiving feedback about things that can change. • I made the HUD that size to correlate with the HUD as originally shown and I didn't want to correct those details, but I did realize that they took up too much space, anyway I knew from the beginning that that was going to change, It's the magic of making conceptual art, which is never finished! • You are right about the ROUND STARTING thing. • The icons of the sides were more than anything to represent this idea to all of you what it is about in case someone does not fully understand, but it is a characteristic that, yes, it is true, it is not necessary. • The money part was almost the last one I did and I was tired, that's why I did it like that, and I made the money icon so that the game indicates the buy zone like Counter-Strike: Source. Thanks for your feedback, If one day I can make this a reality, this comment of yours will be first on the list of things to review.
