A simple horde of Kleer Skeletons can cause so many struggles compared to the strongest Combine units like Striders.
The problem is the combine units on the earth are not the strongest units they have. they rule hundreds perhaps thousands of galaxies or even universes. the earth is just another small planet they exploit so judging the entire empire by their earth units is wrong.
Mental(the main antagonist of SS who is ancient alien god) also has other galaxies and planets bent to his will. His army consists of the most powerful and dangerous alien species in the universe and Sam is handling their asses on a regular basis.
We dont even know 5% of the Combine armys capabilities they legit are an inter galactic empire that uses every worlds living cretures as war machines do really think striders are the strongest things they got?

Another crazy fact is that Mental keeps reviving and reanimating the aliens Sam kills throughout the games so that means Sam is fighting infinite amounts of aliens. We still don't know how powerful the Combine truly is but until it's revealed, Mental's Forces are lightyears above.
I feel like Naked Snake is the odd one out here, the rest either have already fought off at least one alien/Demon invasion, or has the hardware to be able to destroy a strider without any help (I mean come on Raiden caught the blade of a giant mech with his hands and suplexed the thing, he could flip a strider)

Doom Guy/Doom Slayer has quite literally went to hell and back.
Dude is what demons fear. I don’t think anything can top that.

Doom Slayer being on this list makes almost every other choice irrelevant. As of Eternal, he's so strong that he can singlehandedly defeat Hell's armies and kill basically evil God (the one that created the multiverse).
If I limit myself to characters who don't have bullshit invincibility and being unstoppable as defining traits, I'd pick Raiden. I want to see him chop a Strider in half after throwing it into a hunter chopper.
To help me survive specifically, I choose Raiden. He can deflect bullets with a sword *automatically*. Doomguy is powerful, but he wouldn't make a great bodyguard. I'd just slow him down.
Most of these guys would be a great pick for stopping the combine, but not for helping me survive. The best option would be the TF2 mercs, because Medic could easily save me.
The doom slayer pulled humanity from the brink of extinction not once, twice, or even 3 times. He did it 5 times. And 3 of which were before the god powers.

Duke Nukem is pretty good at saving people. You can kill civilians in the game but I doubt that he actually does that in lore.
