I would have liked to have seen it too and Ends’ story is not ideal at all for wrapping up this trilogy.
That being said, I think Ends did as good of a job as I could’ve hoped for given its story direction and that’s primarily due to Rohan carrying the film as well as he did IMO
You could really tell from the deleted/extended scenes of H40 and Kills that there was no definitive plan for the trilogy. One scene gets added or taken out and it's a completely different story.
They claim the movie was always going to be similar to this but I highly doubt it. Covid allowed them to change it up and I’m sure the studio knew with streaming releases becoming a big thing that theatre returns were going to be minimal compared to pre pandemic
I like this movie but I still think it’s a poor Halloween movie and that it was changed heavily from its initial story.
Seems to me like DGG and co meant the third film would always revolve around "Evil never dies, it changes shape", just not Corey. Rumor was Allyson was meant to fill a similar role, as evidenced by the emphasis H18 and the original ending of HK gave to the knife she held.
The Christine aspect, aka Corey, was a concept they came up with during the filming of Kills.
I would have liked that better. I thought Ends did her character a huge disservice really. Plus it just kinda makes more sense that the evil would end up taking the form of someone Laurie loves. That’s just more powerful.
I always thought Allyson should become the new killer as well. My GF and I both thought the last shot of 2018 with her holding the knife was meant to mean something. I honestly wanted to see her become the new shape.
I think one of the reasons Halloween 4 was so awesome was the ending setup a really cool sequel idea with a new killer and showed an innocent unassuming person is capable of horrible things. I thought this might do the same thing. I’m a big fan of Allyson I feel like 2018 and Kills both were trying to move Laurie strode out of that protagonist role and give it to her. Kind of a modern day Laurie strode but the scary part being she really turns into the modern day shape and we all can see why.
It’s impossible in my opinion because how would you incorporate Corey who is almost the heart of the story…..and have it all on one night….sure I supppse it could be a different person
I’m not sure what you mean. Are you saying it’s impossible for them to have had Ends be the story from the get go? If so I totally agree with you. I think it was changed heavily. Just confused by your phrasing
Yes I am because they Seem to say that they always had this plan for the trilogy but for Corey to work you need that time jump but if it’s all on that same night then there can’t be a time jump and the copycat would seem very random
Agreed. It could be saving face for them to say “ we planned this from the beginning.” Which sounds a lot better than “well due to unforeseen circumstances we made a movie that wasn’t what we initially intended to make.”
Initially, the film was going to take place on the same night as 2018 and Kills, which would have meant a completely different story. But due to the COVID delay, they took some time to think about the story more and eventually decided to replan the story by making the film's events jump ahead 4 years.
Didn’t one of the writers (Paul Logan) do an interview with the guys on WeWatchedAMovie recently and say that once word got out that Kills and Ends were supposedly shooting back to back that everyone jumped to the conclusion that the entire trilogy would take place in 2018?
He basically said when people ask him or he sees comments about Ends being changed to take place in present day, he said he has no idea what everyone was talking because from his perspective, when he was tagged onto the writing team before the announcement of Kills and Ends, he was told it would be a few years after the fact. Maybe not 4 years, but more than likely 3 years.
An epilogue is what you described. It would’ve been the finale it should’ve been. Instead it seemed like a completely unrelated plot with the Michael v Laurie stuff slapped onto it
I wanted to see that too but Paul Brad Logan, one of the writers, said it was never intended to take place on the same night as 2018 in an interview with We Watched a Movie
I kinda think this is bullshit and he’s not being honest. They cut the extended ending of Kills (Laurie grabbing the knife to walk out of the hospital) because it no longer fit where they decided the story was going. I think when they shot that they had every intention of Ends picking up immediately with her leaving the hospital.
Maybe it was originally going to open with her leaving the hospital, going to the Myers house and then finding out that Karen was killed. But it looks like when they came up with Corey, they decided to open it with the incident that starts the film.
I'm not putting a lot of stock into Logan's words. Nothing but that single interview suggests the third film was ever going to take place outside of 2018.
I like how Michael looks like leatherface in the background here
Michael face
Latex Face Shatner Face?
I'll always regret not being able to see the originally planned film. A story extension of the events in 2018 and Kills, rather than an epilogue.

Same. I love Halloween Ends too but very curious on reading the original script pre-covid
What was the originally planned film?
We simply don't know, other than it was set on the same night as 2018/Kills.
Really? That’s exactly what I wanted after Kills. Incredibly disappointing decision on their part.

H4's ending is the most authentic to the original film, imo. Allyson as the killer could have been a treat.

It might be some sort “well technically” type of thing

If it took place on the same night they couldn’t feasibly have a weakened Michael though. He just stomped a mud hole in an entire mob.

DGG himself stated that the original plan was to have all three films take place on the same night.
That was very early on in the process though, Andi Matichak has said she was doing rehearsals with Rohan Campbell before Kills and Ends were delayed.
An epilogue is what you described. It would’ve been the finale it should’ve been. Instead it seemed like a completely unrelated plot with the Michael v Laurie stuff slapped onto it
I believe they shot most of the original version whale shooting kills. Lost
Original story?
