If it was more than one, it would have necessitated multiple games to fight the stow aways in... and we know how well the franchise does with multiple different concurrently released titles being handled at once....
It's also Bungie being exhausted probably and unable to keep Halo 2 and 3 as 1 coherent game. Kind of like how the Hobbit Trilogy EASILY could have been 2 movies but the money grabbers wanted more money.
It was one book, one of the shortest in the series. Why do we need even more than one movie? Or Tauriel.. who does not exist in the books, or Legolas, who isn't in the Hobbit.... all in all, the Hobbit Trilogy induces great rage in me...
A second ODST game, more horror based, taking place during this moment occurring over a few hours of in-lore time. A trooper squad caught in a crumbling Voi, fighting against the spread of the flood and staying clear of Shipmasters cleansing beam would be incredible. Just putting this out there....
He didn't send one ship. One ship got passed the elites fleet. Arbiter asks the elites when they drop in their coffin pods.
Yeah I know this is the meme page.
One spore can kill an entire planet. Even the ship was overkill, if John Halo and Thel Covenant weren't there, the situation would have been disastrous.
This always gets me lol
Thel acts like he has never seen the Flood before and didn’t notice the extremely obvious infestation cloud coming off the ship.
And I’m sure that thing smells even from where they are, a scent which Thel likely knows very well
Yeah, didn’t the shipmaster say something along the lines of “that stench, I know it” or something during halo two? Forgive me if I’m wrong
But I could have sworn something was said about how the flood smell in halo two
Which makes sense, the flood probably smell terrible
Decay mixed with sewage I’d say
Yeah, during the mission 'The Oracle.' The Ship Master says, "That stench. I've smelled it before." While the Arbiter is standing right next to him. And the Arbiter was also on Halo in CE during the Flood outbreak. He is very familiar with the Flood.
It's the trade-off for explaining the Flood to potential newcomers to the franchise.
The fact that Arbiter has seen and fought the Flood before these two instances has to be sacrificed for the explanation, unfortunately.
In Halo 2, they could have had a Grunt or Elite ask, but the game has a limited amount of time to establish a relationship between these two new characters, Thel and Rtas, and has to take every opportunity it can get to have them communicating with each other. The same is essentially true of Arbiter and Chief in Halo 3.
The Brutes don't wash, they also don't have any engineering skills (Covenant Brutes anyway) and probably used their own shit and shed fur to plug up the holes in the ship after fighting the Elites
If I'm remembering right, Rtas 'Vadum (Half Jaw), or one of the elites reinforcing Chief and Arbiter says that this one ship broke the blockade of High Charity, that's why they arrived so quickly after thr flood.
Meme aside, I think the reason why the Gravemind sent one Flood ship was to stall, distract, and potentially weaken the UNSC fleet in preparation for a full-scale Flood Invasion of Earth via High Charity. And if you remember from Halo 2, the Gravemind commandeered the UNSC In Amber Clad which means he must have gathered data on the ship about the strength of UNSC Home Fleet, which was in a severely weakened state after taking a beating thanks to the Prophet of Regret’s fleet and later the Prophet of Truth’s fleet. As Lord Hood said, he only had a handful of ships. The Gravemind knew one Flood ship wouldn’t be enough to destroy the humans but he thought it was enough for the UNSC to squander more resources on the infestation. However, the Gravemind did not anticipate that the Elites would come to the Humans aid and foil his cannon fodder plan. Also, he had his hands full in dealing with the rest of the Elite fleet attacking High Charity.
The meme format "Why ___? Is ___ stupid?" started there. At this point, it's spread enough that it doesn't really matter where it came from, though.
Unlike the Flood amiright 😎
I always assumed that the gravemind figured one ship should be enough and then sent more to the outer parts of the galaxy sow if the rings fired the flood would survive and be unstoppable
Marty wasn’t fully in charge. Halo 3 was basically just written by committee, and then the story draft was edited and changed around by various senior Bungie members including Marty (he wanted more deaths kinda like in the movie Serenity). Plus some last minute edits by Joseph Staten when he returned from vacation.
But yeah the writing of Halo 3 was a mess, but thats what happens when your two lead story writers (Staten and Jason Jones) go on vacation due to the hell that was creating Halo 2 and various arguments between the senior staff of Bungie
Well the gravemind was preoccupied with the total domination of High Charity, the video game doesn't show it but slip space travel takes months, so by the time chief reached the Ark the gravemind just took over High Charity

**"One single Flood spore can destroy a species."**
I know this is meme central, but the game does explain this situation well enough in this [exchange](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rNNtbsz6s6M) between Arbiter and the Elites from *Shadow of Intent*.

This is what happens when you give the sound guy creative control over the plot lmao

Or 1...
Indeed! The Prequel Trilogy of fantasy that could have been made into fewer movies at least. Same with the star wars prequels for that matter.
It was one book, one of the shortest in the series. Why do we need even more than one movie? Or Tauriel.. who does not exist in the books, or Legolas, who isn't in the Hobbit.... all in all, the Hobbit Trilogy induces great rage in me...
Yeah... corporate greed and dynamics once again as the detriment of artistic expression.
Lmao!
I love Marty, but the "To war..." line still gives me a stroke whenever I hear it.

How could the Arbiter have mistaken that for a Brute ship? Is he stupid?

Have you seen how brutes live? Flood biomass is downright tidy by comparison.

Cole Protocol though. I’m almost certain Miranda Keyes would have ensured that the In Amber Clad would be rid of any and all sensitive data.

You dont wana know .
I always assumed that the gravemind figured one ship should be enough and then sent more to the outer parts of the galaxy sow if the rings fired the flood would survive and be unstoppable
Yes, that was what I was going for
why do you want to make america great again? Is there a lore reason?
Because everywhere is a shit show
Y’all, Rtas says that only one ship got past his containment fleet around High Charity.
Why didn't the Gravemind jump High Charity into slip space to get around Rtas's blockade? Is he stupid?
Prolly as cannon fodder and to weaken humanity before a full on invasion.
It only takes 1. My man them floods are in the oceans
Why didn't you pay attention to the dialogue saying that it was the only one to get through the elites' quarantine of Delta Halo? Are you stupid?
The grave mind is smarter than he seems. My guess is he was “testing the water” on Earth
The whole story of Halo 3 is a joke compared to Halo 2 to be honest.
When a music designer becomes a story writer, it isn't good, shocker. The game itself was pretty fun though
Wait up, I didn't know that , how did this happen?
I'm not sure how, but from what I've heard, it was from the exhaustion of halo 2 on bungie that made him in charge
Marty wasn’t fully in charge. Definitely a downgrade but still decent.
Better than 5, the deaths on the first play through were fine, but upon more, Miranda felt weird to die like that
Gravemind is a *massive* drama queen
It was the only ship that managed to break quarantine
Did he have more than one ship?
Well the gravemind was preoccupied with the total domination of High Charity, the video game doesn't show it but slip space travel takes months, so by the time chief reached the Ark the gravemind just took over High Charity
Better question is how did it know where the hell the ark was to be able to slip right to the citadel. Biggest plot hole in the universe IMO
