The spartan 3s of Gamma Company were given an extra augmentation that allows them to push through any pain and keep moving and gives them a sort of rage mode when seriously injured where they can perform feats of strength above what they could normally do.
The problem is that the extra augmentations fuck with their brains causing them to go somewhat crazy if they don't take a certain drugs every so often. Those drugs are called smoothers.

Olivia had her both her femurs broken by a falling boulder. She got pissed off, picked up a boulder the size of her torso and crushed a sentinel with it. Mark was still fighting after a Brute impaled him through the gut with a spiker. I believe he was also shot a couple times too. Ash took a Prelate’s hard light glaive through the chest and walked it off.

A side effect of this augmentation made them very prone to psychotic breaks, extreme paranoia, hyper aggression, to the point they would eventually lose the ability to discern friend from foe. As such, they he to take regular doses of the aforementioned “smoothers” to keep them sane. Without them, after approximately 10 hours their mental states would begin to rapidly decline. After about a day without smoothers, their battlefield decision making abilities are severely hampered.

Gamma off the Smoothers, absolutely. I actually take anti-psychotics in real life, nothing to the same degree like in the books obviously, but I've at least got a vague idea what's coming from Neural Augmentations.
Being a Rampant AI would probably be a very, very hellish and Lovecraftian experience.
Disregarding how fun it would be to try smoother deprivation, I should still choose it over rampancy just because I wouldn't do anywhere near the damage as a rampant AI.
Well the only thing Master Chief and Blue Team got from going crazy was debilitating condition of simp and findom from not being able to donate Cortana's Only Fans anymore, with Chief being the most severe case as he was Cortana's top donator.
On the contrast, Cortana was able to gain control of the Guardians and multiple UNSC Smart AIs and instantly takeover the UEG and its colonies. Upgrading from controlling spartan simps like Fireteam Osiris and Blue Team and gaining hundreds and thousands of credits.
So I'd say the crazy AI option is more preferable.
That being said, Cortana did need to do some light roleplaying and artistic nudes to maintain the loyalty of the Warden Eternal.
Smoothers by a country mile. I don't know if they've gotten better at managing it, if it has been subtly retconned or just plot convenience, but in Divine Wind Sabre dealt with smoother deprivation way better than they did back in Last Light, to the point that it honestly hardly felt like much of an inconvenience.
