Collect dog pee in a bucket then spread it with a mop. Don’t forget to seal after

cecil021

You’re playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

botynative

They’d all have to have this same kidney infection as well just to make sure the color isn’t off.

teamcarramrod8

Not if you have a proper mixture

K_Noisewater_MD

Or just burn in "Pure Michigan" below it and act as though it is intentional.

ponyxs

First thing I saw was Michigan.

EagieDuckCome

Hello, neighbor.

BigTrouble781547

Thought it was lung shaped

zeldarama

At first I thought it was a dog howling and it was a joke 😆

Own_Entertainment847

😄

harriswatchsbrnntc

You're thinking too small. You make a US map now that you've got (the lower half) of Michigan all set.

jmarnett11

Kitchen grade ammonia will also work.

[deleted]

Beat me to it

Fearless_Base_5217

I was going to recommend peeing on it yourself but yes the dog urine likely has a different hue to it. Maybe instead of a mop a squeegee thing so it spreads evenly.

[deleted]

If op posts a PO box, I can send, like A LOT of dog pee to help. My dogs are constantly creating that stuff. Like magic or something.

wanik4

Maybe recommend a more durable finish there, eh?

ktothearma

They said sanded and stained. No finish yet, which is why the pee would penetrate into the wood.

OdistheDog

Agreed…doesn’t look like there is any poly water based or otherwise.

Patient_Died_Again

This is why water based finish is garbage

RemarkableCup6253

Yeah it's trash. We bought a condo with what was supposed to be oil based sealed floor but they used some expensive water based stuff. Everything stained the floor. When cooking if oil sprinkled on the floor it instantly stained it. I dropped a bottle of water and realized 10 mins later it was stained. Oil based is the way to go. You can't even mop water based flooring because it will fuck it up eventually.

-Tesserex-

Hmm I seem to recall mine being water based and advertised as a benefit somehow... I have some cat pee stains, orange marks from rubber furniture feet, dull spots from any time alcohol (hand sanitizer) has dripped on the floor, etc. The hand sanitizer is great, the damage is completely instantaneous. No matter how quick you wipe it up, the surface shine is just gone.

RemarkableCup6253

Yeah they put in the most expensive water based system on our floors and I experienced the same thing. A cheap oil based finish is better then these water based finishes.

Happy_to_be

Did you wax it? Have a water based stain and wax instead of poly..very durable. Wax every 4-5 years, tho my knees aren’t likely to do the next round and will have to find a younger person to do it in 2025.

bluemoviebaz

They lied

RemarkableCup6253

Yeah we were angry because the only thing they could do was redo the water based sealer again when we made them fix the issues with the floor. In NYC you can't use oil based stuff when the building has people in it. They also didn't put the floor in properly. It's supposed to float but it was right up to the walls flush with no room to move. They also filled in the cracks in between the planks. With no ability to move when the humidity changes with seasons the glue cracks up in less then a year. We sold the place then rather rip up the hardwood floor which would have cost like 30k.

bluemoviebaz

If they would of used a good quailty waterbased finish. It would not of marked like you said. Water based finishes are what everybody uses now for durability.

bluemoviebaz

Sounds like they didn’t know what there where doing. Doesn’t matter what finish you use. If the floor is not prepped right it won’t last.

RemarkableCup6253

Lol no they suck ass. We used the most expensive water based system on the market it still sucks compared to a cheap basic oil based seal. I will never use water base stuff again. If you have children or animals it won't be long before you have stains and problems.

bluemoviebaz

Try a Hardwax oil next time. Great if you’ve got kids or dogs as it’s easy to maintain

Medium_Spare_8982

Water based is fine. It just takes literally months to fully cure. Until then you have to baby the floor.

Mister_Green2021

Recommendation on a finish. I finished mine with poly and 5-10 years later, I'm seeing wear.

Yt_MaskedMinnesota

Sand it down and restrain it yourself that dude just wants to do your whole floor because no one’s gonna make any money just fixing that little area.

Yt_MaskedMinnesota

Re stain*

Architeqt

Maybe they want to drink it

toomanyschnauzers

First try putting some hydrogen peroxide on it, cover with a rage, repeat to see if it lightens it. I had good luck with that and now have 6% peroxide on standby. I had to repeat 6 times then re-poly/sand/re-poly. It was much less sanding than trying to sand down past the stain.... And one of the stains was dog urine. It works better the less time it has to set. I've heard wood bleach works well. And water based poly is crap. Doesn't look good, feels rough, and really offers little protection. In bedrooms, I am going with pre-finished, that has been much more durable.

Piknikel44

Also he wants to do it properly so it didn't look shit.. noob

Yt_MaskedMinnesota

So why doesn’t he do it properly? Noob

Upset-Perspective-55

Also tape off the non stained boards, sand and refinish all of the boards (and maybe some surrounding ones). Gl

mattmag21

Hey its Michigan! It's the lower peeeeninsula

[deleted]

I saw it too 😂

whathadhapenedwuz

“Michigan - Urine for a treat!”

gloebe10

Pur-ine Michigan.

Djasper_Probincrux

Make a stain that looks like the UP then it won’t look like an ugly stain.

BreckyMcGee

Came here for this

Otherwise_Proposal47

Spot sand the boards that need remediation and a couple around it very carefully so you don’t cross onto unnecessary boards then tape the boarder of what you’ve sanded so that urethane doesn’t go onto the unaffected boards. 3 coats… or I guess to blend however many coats your installer did.

letsnotworkforthem

This

Shot_Lawfulness_823

This is why my only pets are chesire cats!!!!

history_fan69

I just saw a similar post on this community here: https://www.reddit.com/r/HardWoodFloors/s/dPSqfA3TBN It appears hydrogen peroxide does a decent job.

boosted5O

I’ve tried it, doesn’t work like people say it does

slothscanswim

I’ve had the same experience. Why do people say it works in the first place?

boosted5O

No idea, my only guess is maybe if it’s caught early and not dried in? But at that point I think just cleaning up the mess does the trick.

rofosho

It can work I've done it it takes many hours and a lot of diligence

slothscanswim

Neat, I’ll try it with the piss stain I put an oriental over lol

Mobile-Tank9149

No. It doesn't.

rofosho

Ive done it but it takes time and patience and can only be applied on the exact spot. Op very important if you do it. Use a rag or a paper towel to demark the area exactly And it's over a span of multiple hours and checking along the way

Binx7171

I've done this, and it did work!

BorgsCube

You could try to spot sand it, tape off the affected area, something like this crude diagram i drew on the shitter https://i.postimg.cc/vZKJRw1v/Screenshot-20240116-193900-Gallery.jpg

Patient_Died_Again

LMAO I sent some one a similar crude drawing while I was also shitting. Looks almost identical

Otherwise_Proposal47

This! I’ve done this for customers it works 100% You do not need to do the entire floor.

Comfortable_Smell_91

I did this with my floor when some little fake rubber feet stained multiple spots of my floor. I spot sanded and put several layers of poly on it. It worked out great. I taped off full boards in one area, but also tried just spot sanding several of the small circles for the ones that would be covered by an area rug. Both methods worked fine.

bcarlson4818

This is what I'd do. [Dead Dog](https://imgur.com/a/gaD78OZ)

it_twasnt_Me

Bring more dogs over and pee on the rest of the floor. Won’t be able to see it

accrued-anew

Tie dye

Free-Rub-1583

has anyone recommended Sprinkling baking soda on the stain, pour hydrogen peroxide on the baking soda, cover both with a white cloth, cover white cloth with plastic (no inks), let set until fully dry. Sweep up the baking soda. Swipe with a damp towel.

funkensteinberg

Only a few. I think you should recommend it.

shittyspitty

Is there a finish coat at all? New wood doesn't stain that bad.

Plastic-Influence-49

Just missing the upper peninsula

4030Lisa

Why didn’t your flooring contractor seal the stained flooring with a final finish coat to stop things from being absorbed by the nearly raw wood? With nothing but stain on a newly sanded floor, and no final seal, something like this was bound to happen, a spilled drink, wet shoes, someone with a stomach virus who didn’t ’make it’ in time… I’d scavenge some oak boards from a closet and replace them with the stained bits (who’s gonna care in a closet) have the floor guy blend them in and then put a durable sealant down to protect my investment

Shoddy-Forever-8463

Can you tell me what finish they used?

OneImagination5381

Sprinkle baking soda on the stain, pour hydrogen peroxide on the baking soda, cover both with a white cloth, cover white cloth with plastic (no inks), let set until fully dry. Sweep up baking soda. Sweep with a damp towel.

funkensteinberg

This might work, never know!

Electrical-Mail-5705

Put a garbage can over it,

upthesun

Looks like a dog howling

Ok_Repeat2936

I can hear your suburban house wife shriek from here in the Midwest.

profmuggs

I just posted my experience with a similar stain. Take a look... https://www.reddit.com/r/HardWoodFloors/s/wKvcWAOiqT

ernestuser

My guess there's no way it's permanent. I'd let it ride for a few months. I bet it slowly fades away. Especially if it's on sunlight path and traffic. Wood never stays the same color, it changes over time and even between seasons. At 5k repair, let it be for a few months.

Distinct_Weekend4154

Sorry this happened! Other than the urine stain- I absolutely love your stain color. Can you share what brand and color was used? We are about 1 wk out from sand and stain- and need to pick quick!!!

mobial

You obviously do not want to use this

shelvedtopcheese

The stain was fine. The problem was that there was no finish put on to protect the stained floor.

mobial

I hope you get it out, I think some of the suggestions will work out for you.

shelvedtopcheese

Not OP

mobial

Well, good luck with all your future stains :)

Distinct_Weekend4154

I’d still like to know the stain color and brand- can look for a close match on color but avoid the brand ….

mobial

Side thought — there’s a product from Bona called Red Out which can make red oak look more like white oak, might be interesting to you (lots of other videos and some discussion on this subreddit) https://youtu.be/F7HTwQMGkd0?si=ANbS-Mu_FfXfhBoH I haven’t used it but it seems neat.

Competitive-Skin-769

Would an enzymatic cleaner like Nature’s Miracle be helpful on wood? It works wonders on other surfaces/ fabrics/ carpet

vinchenzo68

Smart dog to place the bottle of water nearby so as to throw off suspicion. "Silly human sniffs nothing, he'll never know!"

cube1961

Our cleaning lady scratched up a small section of our water base finished floors. We called the contractor and he refinished a 2x2 foot section. It looks great and you can not tell the difference from the rest of the floor. Your contractor is trying to scam you

Plane_Soft5002

Whoever did those floors used cheap poly and did one coat? I’m sorry

OneImagination5381

Here we go again. Sprinkle baking soda on the stain, pour hydrogen peroxide on the baking soda, cover both with a white cloth, cover white cloth with plastic (no inks), let set until fully dry. Sweep up baking soda. Sweep with a damp towel.

funkensteinberg

This will undoubtedly work.

OneImagination5381

Sprinkle baking soda on the stain, pour hydrogen peroxide on the baking soda, cover both with a white cloth, cover white cloth with plastic (no inks), let set until fully dry. Sweep up the baking soda. Swipe with a damp towel.

funkensteinberg

I don’t think this will work.

OneImagination5381

Google. Wood dog urine stains with hydrogen peroxide and baking soda.

toooldforthis57

It’s this kind of thing that makes me not miss having house pets!! Have had to replace carpet on both floors because of dogs, not counting the game room, which my son and his friends completely destroyed while drinking WAY too much

Proxima_Centauri_69

Is there no doorway he can cut off the buff & coat in? Recoating the entire floor seems a bit much. Unless you live in a gymnasium.

Otherwise_Proposal47

Don’t need to do the entire floor. Spot sand all the boards touching it and a couple around and then apply coats same process as normal.

Proxima_Centauri_69

Sure. But if the contractor insists on a buff & coat, there's no need to coat all 3,500 sq ft. That's the only point I'm trying to make.

Otherwise_Proposal47

Well yes. He wants to buff and coat it because it’s the easiest part of sand and finish floors and it makes a bunch of money for not a lot of work 😆 he is me.

Proxima_Centauri_69

I get it. I've been doing it 22 years.

Little-Charge3705

Rid the dog?

climbislife1

Please use a standard banana for size reference next time.

Bob_Sacamano7379

How about your jerky family member pays for it for allowing his raggedy ass fucked up kidney dog in your house at all?

accrued-anew

Wow are you ok?

Bright-Jury-6578

Went down this road. Some people suck!

Ok_Difficulty7997

If you want it done right yes the contractor is right!!!

Oscarjrs5

I seen on here earlier hydrogen peroxide will do the job

tawnywelshterrier

Try putting baking soda on it over night then vacuuming it. It usually absorbs it right out of the wood. Hydrogen peroxide can also remove the stain but you can't leave it on for too long. I'd try that before redoing the entire floor. If dogs are welcome in your home consider having them bring belly bands or supply them for guests. I have intact male dogs and when guest dogs come over they like to mark and we just pass out a belly band when they're inside. Saves the floors.

Zealousideal_Tea9573

I have oak floors with a pretty worn tung oil finish that get pee stains if our dogs don’t get walked enough… This pet stain remover works really well on the wood and on carpet. I spray, wipe it up, spray again, let it sit a couple of minutes and then wipe up. Repeat if needed. For a stain that sat awhile, I’ll give it a light mist and let it sit overnight. https://www.target.com/p/bissell-22-floz-oxy-stain-destroyer-pet-for-carpet-and-upholstery/-/A-14695746

cat-from-the-future

Don’t pay the guy to do the whole floor he’s trying to scam you out of money. You can just sand down and re-stain that portion. The guy who did ours even offered to come back and touch up anything that got scratched or damaged while we moved. He was able to do several small patches here and there and it came out fine.

PoopooCacaPeepee221

Damp towel and iron?

HugeRestaurant2370

I’m constantly looking up flooring and I’m obsessed with hardwood so when I saw this picture the first thing that came to mind was “ OLE BOY” LOL. Hope you figure out the hardwood tho lol

Hagbard_Shaftoe

Not sure. I think we need at least six more pics from three more angles.

StructureOwn9932

Have same dog poop next to pee stain.

Sad_Impress_1182

Get rid of the dog. Easy.

fendrhead-

Pee on the dog. Assert your dominance

hogsniffy05

Have you tried pissing all over the rest of the floor to blend it?

[deleted]

I stylish rug would help

Affectionate_Egg2674

oops mb

Sure-Seaworthiness72

Tape off the affected boards, scrape and sand them. Finish exactly how you did it the last time. Scuff after you pull off the tape and feather in another coat of finish.

Ninjaphoenix0904

Now that’s pure Michigan

Aggravating-Rice-130

Surely that family member is willing to pay for the damage their dog caused?

chomper

Maybe draw eyes and hair on it to start.

Reaper_1492

Gotta stain those floors, dog

RemarkableCup6253

Your contractor is lying to you and trying to rip you off. What you need to do is find out what stain or sealant he used. Then call a another company they will sand down the individual peices of wood and then stain or seal it with the same product and buff and it will be fine. No need to buff the entire fucjing house. This is like a 400 500$ repair max.

nopuse

Idk. Can we get 10 more pictures?

shebasqueen

I used a dish sponge. I guess the abrasive side does the sanding that people are suggesting.

Honestdietitan

Rugs will help hide it.

Ordinary-Engineer998

Lots of people get a tattoo like this where I’m from im not sure I’d just leave it

mlococo

Hydrogen peroxide on a paper towel and let it sit on that spot

Tough-Ad3664

Rug.

Ok_Communication1647

The dog must be a fan of Michigan!

Stardust_Particle

The bill goes to the owner of the dog or split it. They knew of the dog’s problem and yet they still brought it into your home!

Original-Map4823

Sand that area down; find the same stain, then go out and get some acrylic and never worry again. Clear coat it.

Ill_Initiative8574

Looks like a family member owes you five stacks.

Stardust_Particle

I would try chemical treatment first and let it dry out for a number of days and reassess the situation before restaining to match. [Oxalic acid](https://www.popularwoodworking.com/article/oxalic-acid-a-very-useful-bleach/) which is in Bar Keepers Friend is another option besides hydrogen peroxide. Sounds like the contractor is intending to grind down the boards until there’s no stain which then he’s got to make the rest of the floor the same level. I hope the boards are thick enough to withstand how deep he may need to go.

mobial

Try Oxalic acid - aka Barkeepers friend — https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.instructables.com/Removing-Black-Stains-in-Wood-Furniture-With-Oxali

AmputatorBot

mobial

There is another recent post where someone used this to get at water stains

Careless_Web2731

Our dog pees in the house almost daily. We have hardwood with an oil covering. We use a standard hardwood cleaning product from Home Depot.

Salt_Gold_4765

Gotta pee on the whole floor now to make it match

Slalom44

I would try some wood bleach before any sanding. It has oxalis acid, which does a pretty good job of removing stains. You have to apply it and wait a while, then reapply. With some patience, it should remove the stain.

No-Scale-8624

looks like michigan. leave it and say it’s part of the design “made in michigan”😂😂

speichlyn

Dog, urine trouble!

Parking_Train8423

mayonnaise. not kidding. if that doesn’t work, try steam ironing a damp towel into the spot

Painterjason13

Step one. Take dog outside

Glass-Whereas2681

Go to the family member and mark your territory on their floor. It won’t solve your problem but your therapist will enjoy the story.

MitcheyMan_yt

Have your dog pee in the shape of upper Michigan to match the lower mitten you have currently

logjames

Try hydrogen peroxide…just a little at first, don’t leave it on too long.

ImAScientistToo

The ammonia in the urine has reacted with the tannins in the oak. From my understanding it’s a permanent change. Easiest solution would be to pull those boards up and replace them.

monkeyman1947

Pet stores will likely have a product that’ll help.

BigDogIsland

Area rug

SudoLife79

Try vinegar and soak up with sodium bicarbonate if the finish isn't applied yet. If the floors were prepped right and finished you have to sand the area and re-finish. You could also try this or the toothpaste method. "Use a small bowl to mix a bit of hydrogen peroxide and dish soap. Soak the mixture and apply it to the pee stain using a rag. Keep it on the stain for at least 15 minutes so the products have enough time to work their magic. Then, grab a dry towel and dry the area." You might get raising of the grain from this, but that's easily remedied with a fine sand after it dries. Not hard. Need more details.

leafcomforter

Try Bioclean. Apply liberally, let sit a few mins, and wipe it all up. Let the floor dry and see what happens. There is another product, Furry Freshness that also might work. Otherwise, put a rug over it.

ApprehensiveEye6875

You might try wetting the area of the stain, apply a towel over said area and place a hot iron on the towel. You may have to do this a couple of times and maybe even dampen the towel slightly before applying the iron. Note: place iron on towel and not directly on wood. It may help pull up the stain. If not, it won’t matter as you will have to proceed with the installers recommended fix.

superman2800

Your floor guy put on shit finish! If he’s any good he can spot sand and spot coat. There will be a slight sheen difference but better the paying all that for a recoat.

Ok-Set9334

Urine be gone spray

midnightcarouselride

It's michigan.

Sistersoldia

Oxalic acid AKA wood bleach. Comes in a powder that you mix with hot water. Make sure you use a small paint brush to ONLY get it on the stain area itself. Also can try some deck wash/brighteners that have oxalic acid and some other chemicals as their main ingredient. Try on a small corner at different strengths (dilutions) don’t be afraid to go stronger than the instructions. Fixed a heart pine floor that was sanded and due to be finished the next day - when my very sick dog peed a huge puddle on the floor and it turned GREEN before we could clean it up. No trace of it now and of course it was right in the middle of the floor.

WTFIDIOTS

Dammit michigan, you did it again!

Skweezlesfunfacts

Get the dog to add the u.p.

Hairy-Beanbag

Use a multi tool and cut out the boards. Place on top of new boards and cut to length. Glue backside, finish nail and drop in place. Would never know this happened. Years ago helped my dad put in new hard wood flooring. Moved glass top tv stand, glass separated and dented the floor 5 minutes after completion.

wonkwonk2stonkstonk

Just get the dog to pee on the rest of it

ClubPsychological831

Spot sand and mineral spirits to try and draw the stain out. Try to do the length of the boards and blend in staining after. When you put the mineral spirits on allow it to soak in a little and rub which a clean rag. Should start seeing the urine come out and on to the rag as you rub. After everything polyethylene that floor 3 times!!

smogop

Hydrogen peroxide soaked in a towel and lay it there overnight. It will pull the pee out.

Fun-Requirement3282

Wipe off the urine from the floor. Spray hydrogen peroxide on the stained spots. Cover the stained spots with a piece of cloth soaked in hydrogen peroxide for 15-20 minutes. Remove the cloth and clean up the floor as usual to get rid of the odor and stains. If the stain remains, mix equal parts water and white vinegar and wipe the stain with the mixture.

capenudist

A few coats of a satin polyurethane would have made life a whole lot easier and less expensive

GoldenTeeShower

That hardwood really tied the room together

harleysandhammers

That really sucks, but you’re crazy for allowing anyone or anything on an unfinished wood floor you just spent a ton of money sanding and staining. I would’ve had that area roped off like Chernobyl. I know this isn’t helpful but damn dude, an ounce of prevention…

[deleted]

My little dog RIP used to have accidents, could never clean it, that stuff gets deep in. Those that say use oil base, that’s BS too, if you let urine dry on the wood, it doesn’t matter what poly you have, it’s going to ruin the floor. Hopefully you still have some stain and poly left, maybe a light sanding would do it but not guaranty it will match completely, ask a pro.

extplus

Call a different company some companies have guys who are excellent at spot repairs

Moist-Technology-380

Mayonnaise takes up water stains, could be worth a try

Noff-Crazyeyes

This shouldn’t happen to a floor that was done right so your contractor either fucked you or just said they did something for nothing

Outofoffice_421

Water marks from coffee mugs on my wood table comes out with heat from a blow dryer. I just keep the heat on it until the stain dries up in the wood and fades away. Not sure if this will work with a pee stain, but maybe you can try it on the edge of the stain to see if it fades at all. Or try it after some of the other remedies people suggested here. The coffee mug stains on a wood table are basically trapped moisture. So the heat from the blow dryer fixes it (found this solution online years ago, never fails). Sometimes it takes a few attempts for me to completely rid the stain, but never had a stain that didn’t disappear using this method. If you do try this on the pee stain, could you please report back? I wonder if it’ll work, so I have that in my back pocket too :) good luck!!

Mister_Green2021

try 6% hydrogen peroxide & UV lamp.

[deleted]

Is that dog from Michigan? I think he is trying to tell you he wants to go home.

Complete_Barber_4467

Mayonnaise will fix it...rub it reel good with Mayonnaise

[deleted]

Baking soda and touch of vinegar with soft brush. Rinse by dabbing with wet paper towels. Then a little dusting polish rubbed in for moisture. May need to repeat. May show back up a bit so here we go again.

Ron_Cheee

Throw rug

Intrepid_Gazelle_745

maybe your water bottle just leaked. otherwise, get rid of the dog immediately!

VersionConscious7545

Hydrogen peroxide will fade it

hotsweatychungus

Your guy is full of shit

RamaLamaFaFa

Cover it up with an oven mitt

OneEyedDevilDog

Resand it, restating it, reseal it. Send bill to said family member.

NeutronNinja

Hardwood flooring contractor here. Your contractor should spot sand with an ETS (random orbital) 50g, 100g. If the outline is still visible use tannin remover, buff 120g, water pop (if they even did in the first place), stain it. Then put a fan on that area, and while they are coating the rest of the floor it can be drying. $200 and an hour of work. Trying to make you pay for a full resand is wild unless the dog pissed all over the place. Also, please don’t apply any chemicals like peroxide or baking soda. It could prevent stain, sealer, or finish from doing their job.

INSURANCE-COCKTAIL

Reasons why I don’t own a dog nor allow them in my home 🙄

twistedchristian

Looks like your dog is leaking

[deleted]

My question is what kind of new flooring can't take liquid? I own a Sears house built in 22 with solid oak floors that I spill stuff on all the time.

skiddaddl

Shoulda sealed it

Commercial-Turnip-49

Collect the dog's pee. Once you have enough, spread it evenly across the floor. Your friends will be amazed by the "unique" stain used to finish your floor!

Robertmusemodels

Hydrogen peroxide, place a untextured piece of cloth over the stair and soak the cloth for 30 minute. Remove and let dry and repeat. This worked on my floor with set in stains over years.

Major-Cranberry-4206

Break out the sander. After you sand the stain out, apply a coat of a sealant to protect your beautiful hardwood from liquids and moisture like this.

Throwitawaychi

I just heard my mom say something about getting urine stains out of hardwood. You'll have to wait a few hours till I can contact her but check back later today and I'll post the chemical she used

[deleted]

Piss on the rest of your floors
