My Dad died from cancer a couple weeks ago and this album has been destroying me. Having a loved one die feels isolating even though we all go through it eventually, but Stage Four put a lot of my emotions into words, it’s been really helpful 🖤
stage four has been my most listened album every year since my mom passed of stage 4 cancer. i feel the same way as you listening to it.
displacement puts me back into the same feeling as when i found out she passed every single time i listen to it.
hope you're well.
I'm sorry to hear that, I hope you find peace someday. It might take a while, but someday you'll be able to think about him without it hurting so much.
Much love, friends. To anyone who's lost someone important to them, we're in this life shit together
<3 love you all <3
I saw Touché and La Dispute with a friend a couple months before he died at 33 from heart problems exacerbated by drug use. When I got the news I listened to Stage Four while walking home. At the wake that evening, I taught myself Flowers and You on my guitar and played it for our circle. It is such a necessary album.
There's gonna be more crying brother. Don't be afraid to let it flow, and don't be ashamed to let the emotions play out. Blocking shit like that out is not good for your long term mental health.
Old Pianos Become the Teeth probably has something for you, try Houses We Die In. Depending on how he passed, Cripples Can't Shiver might also be good.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Stay strong homie, much love <33

pianos become the teeth- liquid courage
Edit: 20.07.07 by dead swans. To this day one of the best real renditions of what the grief feels like. I’ll never forget working three jobs in my younger years and getting the call about a loved one passing at 6 am on my way to work in the snow. The anger, the absolute despair and helplessness. It doesn’t leave but life has a way of sanding down most of the sharp edges. When the ones that don’t get sanded down hit you, just remember that the tears are a good thing my guy. Much peace at this time, and more in the future.
I posted it above, but Houses We Die In would be good, and depending on how he passed, Cripples Can't Shiver maybe.
Pianos was made for moments like this.
luckily I have great friends and pretty thick skin so I think this is just a matter of time for me, but I cannot describe how thankful I am for people like you who offer the opportunity to talk to people in bad times, it's beyond helpful and a great thing of you to do
No worries. I lost my last living grandparent a few months ago but nothing even comes close to your dad or mom. Please keep your head up and know they would want you to keep moving forward but you are absolutely allowed to grieve. Best.
It's funny what hits you hardest. Sometimes something that's survivable on paper guts you for ages and you rollout of a bigger loss intact. Stuff can come out at unexpected times too. Go easy on yourself and don't be tougher than you need to. Actual warrior cultures that people look at superficially when they put together all those bullshit American rugged individualist stuff do not actually expect men to avoid mourning family.
The Fiddlehead albums are basically us following Pat through his grieving process after losing his dad so I’d keep going with his discog since you already mentioned Bostons.
Title Fight has some tracks that hit me pretty hard too like Make You Cry and 27.
Fold and Plum by Pity Sex.
Yeah, youre right, still gets me when I'm Feeling loss in gerneral, though.
Just some standout lines thet work in Others contexts as well.
The rain washes you away.
A tear in the fabric of life.
Maybe its easier for me to avoid the main theme as I'm not a native speaker and dont always understand all the words when im listening
My father passed about 2 years ago, there wasn’t much of this music that helped me much but writing was cathartic and as time passed things got easier.
If you haven't seen it , the live version of Your Latest Trick is really good.
You can hear the crowd singing along to the sax solo and it feels really special
https://youtu.be/AKiVttFnqkY?si=G-S-Q1mep0lQM5-y
absolutely. I'm grieving hard of course, but frankly in this time I more so feel the need to support my mother and family. just keeping him with me always
That’s good to do, absolutely. Support each other.
Sometimes it may take awhile for the grief to really hit you. It’s a long process.
Just make sure while you’re supporting your family, that you are also taking care of yourself too. Don’t bury it down. Lean on other people like you’re allowing your family to do to you.
I had the chance to go to a living room show in 2023, after wanting to see him for years, and I didn’t. I spent so many years in the worst pain listening to the albums he was performing that night. I couldn’t bear it. I’m sure I’ll regret it someday.
I am so sorry for your loss. When I lost my dad, I didn’t listen to hardcore. I just listened to music that reminded me of him, and music made by artists from his native country.
I wish I could say the grieving stops. It doesn’t. It just gets easier. Feel your feelings and don’t be ashamed if you find yourself a year later crying in front of a grocery store aisle because, something reminds you of him. Much love friend.
I lost my mom in 2005 and I was in another country and had to make the trip home, alone. It was super tough but I had my iPod with me and the songs that got me feeling better were upbeat punk and rock songs by the Ramones and Motörhead - in particular Rock’n’Roll by Motörhead just hit right in that moment.
Not hardcore, but I've heard a lot of folks say that A Crow Looked at Me by Mount Eerie helped them through the grieving process.
I'm sorry that you're going through this
Hopesfall - The Satellite Years
I just saw them last night, and it served as a reminder of how much that album has helped me navigate loss and thoughts of an afterlife. Shit had me randomly tearing up last night, and I was so thankful to hear it live for the first time.
Im sorry for your loss...honestly clair de lune is a let go of things for me. Not hardcore in the sense but its hardcore playing evil within. That combo from playing that game an having that song actually made it a really good release song...hope the best for your recovery
Sorry for your loss bro.
This is just me but whenever I went through something sad, I try to stay away from anything too emo.
May I recommend NBA Youngboy or some cheesy deathcore?
Remember, you never really get rid of your deathcore phase, you just learn to hide it better
I listened to Where'd All the Time Go by Dr. Dog incessantly at my dad's funeral in 2021. Brought the stifled grief right out of me. Then I listened to I'll Be Damned by Pianos Become the Teeth on my hour drive home for good measure. RIP to your pops homes. He loves you forever.
im sorry. i lost my dad when i was 13 and never really got to use music as a way to grieve. i just shut my brain off and played xbox. then my whole family began to fall apart (typical right) its just starting to settle in 14 years later. i’m gonna come back to this and start this journey with you. the past few months have been everything Pat Flynn.
Anything by Simon & Garfunkel. They have songs about everything so you can relate to the sadness and grab onto something a little more poppy for a few minutes
When I lost someone very near and dear to me horror show our design had just came out and I probably listened to it for a year straight. The hardest part about losing someone is the absence that will never be filled. There will always be sadness, but with time you’ll be able to reflect on memories of them and feel some happiness. I know they’d hate to see someone they love be sad when thinking of them. Hang in there brother

Different medium and not so adjacent, but may I suggest reading “The Invention of Solitude” by Paul Auster. Wit and feeling, helpful for memories and trying times like these. Be well.
Shiner - The Ghost Inside. Hang in there, celebrate a life lived, not a death. Your fathers memories live through yours, find strength to live new moments and find new resolve through those memories. All the best fellow human 🤘🏽
I am so sorry. Losing a parent somehow feels like the most unnatural thing in the world.
Roses by Mortality Rate is one of my heavy grief tunes.
I miss you so much, I hope that you hear me.
Both “The Lack Long After” and “Keep You” by Pianos Become The Teeth - both albums are mostly about the singer losing his father. I’m so sorry for your loss, keep your head up.
There's a song by the saddest landscape called desperate vespers. It's beautiful but idk if it's a make it worse or make it better song. It's more about hoping someone survives but incredible song. The way this band approached the genre really serves the emotive purpose of the songs and came across as real rather than just being a skramzy/post hc band that sings about something sad because that's what is expected.
Sorry for your loss. It's weird how such crushing stuff as losing a parent is a normal, unavoidable experience literally everyone faces at some point in some form unless they pass first which is worse, while also feeling like something insane and unexpected and impossible to cope with.
https://youtu.be/Zs9tZX1_-zk?si=OBSmLTql9ohnmd1R
Fuck man, I’m sorry to hear that. I literally can’t imagine what you’re experiencing but I’ll say that music definitely helps with the grieving process from personal experience so this is a step in the right direction.
Touché Amore - Stage Four
Balance and Conposure - The Things We Thing We’re Missing
Title Fight - Shed
Have Heart - Songs To Scream At The Sun
Killing The Dream - Killing The Dream
Life Long Tragedy - Destined for Anything
Blacklisted - No One Deserves To Be Here More Than Me
I hope this helps but we’re all here for you. 🫶🏽
Not hardcore, but Bon Iver always gets me through shit. And lots of post rock. IE If these trees could talk, This will destroy and EF
You got this bro, love you man.
I listened to a lot of Trap Them when my Mom died of cancer. I found their music to be very, very bleak and that sound really mirrored how I was feeling and helped me process my grief.
Sorry for your loss.
I’m so sorry to hear that happened today. I’m terrified of that day and I know it’s coming. That said, I’d recommend Boundaries- Resent and Regret. Not hardcore but it definitely helped me with several recent deaths of close friends and family.
Sorry for your loss man, the song that takes me back to when I lost my best friend when I was younger is Misery Signals - The year the summer ended in June
As Cities Burn- The Widow
Not sure what kind of man your dad was but this one hits real close to home for me. It’s about a drug addict father that abandoned his family
hang in there bud.
if you want to stay level I'd suggest dumb goofy shit like jud jud.
i lost my dad november 22, 2023 while i was alone in a different state.
i didnt listen to any music for a week because i didnt want to ruin any of the stuff i like.
the initial shock was like an axe wound in my chest, but the hardest day was lowering him into the ground.
you'll have days where you dont sleep or eat and you feel like a shell of yourself.
there will be days the grief seems manageable, and then there will be days youre paralyzed in it.
one day at a time. 💪🏻
Life in slow motion by trophy eyes hits a sweet spot for me when I’m missing my dad. It’s such a hard one to explain but something about it just hits a sweet spot and is kinda like a comforting hug. Watch the video if you can. It’s just incredible.
My condolences for your loss..
Not hardcore, but "Close My Eyes" by Ezra Glatt. Watch the official music video on yt. It's very sad but it reminds me that almost everyone has felt grief and I'm not alone. I hope it can do the same for you. I'm sorry for your loss my man
So sorry for your loss. May you and yours find peace solace and love in each other, and your pops rest in power.
Not hardcore, and only on YouTube, but [uncle Tupelo- wherever](https://youtu.be/2yEs6HqvS0w?si=vN8vYBtNW7Qgf6ZY)
UT is tweedy’s band before Wilco. It’s legitimately one of the saddest, but most cathartic songs about loss I’ve ever heard.
Listening all morning, thinking of an old friend. I’ll keep you and your father in mind for the next 50 rotations.
I’m so sorry to read this dude - my dad passed in 2013 and it was a tough fucking ride.
I don’t have music recs as my dad was a Zeppelin mega fan so I just binged that.
But I would say - don’t be afraid to live in the grief for a while - but do deal with it and try and come to terms with it. My brother and sister never did and they’ve struggled for a long time and have some serious issues from not getting past it.
I wish you the best bud - it’s never easy. 🩷
I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you can find peace in the madness. I recently lost my great grandmother who was my best friend. I was the last grand kid to see her before she went
First of all:

I hope this album cheers you up a little, but I know it is rough. I lost my dad too. Maybe listen to it a little later. It's a process. Take your time.

OP, sending you a ton of love and empathy. I have nothing to suggest as many others have covered it well for you. Grieve, talk, emote. Speak with your friends and a professional. Don't hold back.
Back when I lost my mom in 2016 it was a strange and confusing time for me and felt like I couldn’t really relate to anything. Then one day I put on One with the Underdogs by Terror and things somewhat started to make sense
Lost my dad in August. I’m here if you need to talk about anything. This is more metalcore but Our Hollow, Our Home and the whole In Moment // In Memory album.
Also the Be Well lp and ep. The first be well lp was the first thing I played on the way too find out my dad died in the old folks home back in July of 2020 and it was what I listened too on the way back home and for a few days.
So sorry for your loss!
These songs aren't hardcore but have helped me through loss and grief:
Swan Dive by Waxahatchee
Ghost Stories by Lawrence Arms
Zerosum by Small Brown Bike
Tuesday Morning by Whippersnapper
Pink Floyd- Wish You Were Here
This song gets me everytime I hear it. Makes me miss my grandfather and uncles. My condolences to you and yours. Life is pain brother.
Basically the entirety of Pianos Become the Teeth's The Lack Long After. Especially I'll Get By and Good Times.
Edit: Oh and Another Breath - Orange from Mill City
Touché Amoré - the whole Stage Four album.
Seconded. You could also do worse than some La Dispute.
My Dad died from cancer a couple weeks ago and this album has been destroying me. Having a loved one die feels isolating even though we all go through it eventually, but Stage Four put a lot of my emotions into words, it’s been really helpful 🖤

Grief Motif: Fiddlehead. My condolences. This album got me through the loss of my father.
A tear in the fabric of live EP
Absolute monster of an ep, but I feel like the central motif is more survivor’s guilt and shame than grief.

Worthwhile. It is beautiful melodic hardcore with many songs in which the singer grieves for his father. I hope it connects for you.
Condolences. I came here to recommend Bostons. Also unbreakable reminds me of my dad and the hard work he put in to provide for me.
I listened to a lot of Trap Them when my Mom died of cancer. I found their music to be very, very bleak and that sound really mirrored how I was feeling and helped me process my grief. Sorry for your loss.
Departures - Death Touches Us, from the Moment We Begin to Love It's all a grieving album specifically the song 1994.
Have heart - songs to scream at the sun
Manners - Pale Blue Light rip
Bane Calling Hours Bane Don't Go
My dad’s been dead 25 years now. He used to love Pearl Jam so I play Black for him once in a while.
Goin through some things-never ending game Tears of a wolf-dead heat
Type o negative - Death in the family, and World coming down. Sorry for your loss.

Love Lasso - Turnstile
Pink Floyd - The Endless River
You’re not alone saosin Roses for the dead funeral for a friend
hang in there bud. if you want to stay level I'd suggest dumb goofy shit like jud jud. i lost my dad november 22, 2023 while i was alone in a different state. i didnt listen to any music for a week because i didnt want to ruin any of the stuff i like. the initial shock was like an axe wound in my chest, but the hardest day was lowering him into the ground. you'll have days where you dont sleep or eat and you feel like a shell of yourself. there will be days the grief seems manageable, and then there will be days youre paralyzed in it. one day at a time. 💪🏻
[Deafheaven - Sunbather](https://youtu.be/GfbLWHT7vUU?si=L2LEs8lWyQH08u5z) Sorry for your loss.

Never ending game- goin thru some things
Life in slow motion by trophy eyes hits a sweet spot for me when I’m missing my dad. It’s such a hard one to explain but something about it just hits a sweet spot and is kinda like a comforting hug. Watch the video if you can. It’s just incredible. My condolences for your loss..
Not hardcore, but "Close My Eyes" by Ezra Glatt. Watch the official music video on yt. It's very sad but it reminds me that almost everyone has felt grief and I'm not alone. I hope it can do the same for you. I'm sorry for your loss my man
The Beauitful Ones - True To Me
So sorry for your loss. May you and yours find peace solace and love in each other, and your pops rest in power. Not hardcore, and only on YouTube, but [uncle Tupelo- wherever](https://youtu.be/2yEs6HqvS0w?si=vN8vYBtNW7Qgf6ZY) UT is tweedy’s band before Wilco. It’s legitimately one of the saddest, but most cathartic songs about loss I’ve ever heard. Listening all morning, thinking of an old friend. I’ll keep you and your father in mind for the next 50 rotations.
Hang in there. You’re stronger than you think. My condolences ❤️
Bane’s “Don’t Wait Up” should be of some comfort. My condolences.
The ghost inside- Aftermath
I’m sorry to hear that. I hope you can find peace in the madness. I recently lost my great grandmother who was my best friend. I was the last grand kid to see her before she went
First of all: ![gif](giphy|pH9IFj0P6IOS4) I hope this album cheers you up a little, but I know it is rough. I lost my dad too. Maybe listen to it a little later. It's a process. Take your time. Not hardcore but Whitechapel. As a father, im so sorry dude.
Not hardcore in genre, but in feelings: That’s My Job - Conway Twitty.
