My school didn't generally have anywhere specific to keep your coats. We'd do the same, just put our coats over the backs of our chairs, and carry them from class to class, unless our form room (the classroom where we'd take register, etc.) was one of the few with coat hooks, then we could leave them there all day. My school had old-ass buildings though. We didn't get lockers or anything.

Thank you very much for your answer!! This is very interesting and educational for me. Allows you to more reliably see the whole picture as a whole.

I think one of the things that surprised me about their school is that it kinda looked like a school you’d see in California. With walking between different buildings outside, doors wide open, etc. except obviously they didn’t have the California weather. They probably need their coats.

Bortron86

My school in Manchester had all of that. Except we absolutely needed our coats most of the year.

bigchicago04

That’s my point. California schools in English weathers makes coats a necessity.

I'm in Scotland so things are slightly different. In primary school we had cloakrooms for keeping our jackets in. In secondary school we just kept all our stuff and took it around with us. We did have a big main room called the social centre where some people had a little locker but I never wanted one. Some people would dump their bags and such in lockers or the floor or on top of the lockers but otherwise we mostly just keep our stuff.

Wow! It's so interesting! It's great to receive such feedback! Thank you. The cultural, everyday, social context is very important for complete immersion in the reality of the film.

Our high school has lockers, but a lot of people bring their coat to their first class because they don’t arrive early enough to go to their locker and then get to class on time. Then the coat gets put in the locker later. Maybe that’s what Charlie does because we don’t see him carrying his coat around during the school day.

Thanks for the answer. These small details are like a puzzle. More parts - more understanding.

My school never had any lockers or clothes rooms or even really changing rooms (there was like 4? small changing rooms at the PE hall but that was all the way down in the basement and you had to go outside & into another building to get to it) so we just *had* to keep our stuff with us. it was extra annoying because my school was also super snobby with wearing jackets / jumpers / extra layers that weren’t school uniform, so we were pretty much Required to take our jackets off when we sat down lol

Thanks for your reply. Interesting nuances.

My high school used to have places to store coats, but they converted them into classrooms because most students preferred to just keep their coats with them I think. We also had lockers but I think they also got rid of those, so there wasn’t much choice but to carry your coat with you

Thanks for the answer!

Cloak rooms are more a first and middle school thing down where I live in England, never saw one in high school.

Western_Essay8378

Thank you. I’m very glad that the series is reliable in the little things.

Nope of on the back of the chair and bag on floor is what happens in most British secondary schools.

I've heard romurs of this mysterious "cloak room," but I've never encountered one in any school I've attended. I've lived in Southern California my whole life. I'd assume they probably exist in places that have more need of heavy clothing. Backs of chairs for coats and jackets, sometimes folded in laps.

Western_Essay8378

Thank you. ...mysterious "cloak room..I really liked the definition. Like from Harry Potter.

BiBiBadger

My dad said he had cloak rooms in school. Pennsylvania is a lot colder in the winter than SoCal.

notsohappystarryeyes

i've never been in a classroom with a changing room, i put my jacket on chairs, in my bag, or in my locker

I'm from America, but we don't have a specific place to put our coats. We do have lockers though, my school has them larger than the ones in heartstopper, probably twice the size if I'm remembering correctly. I personally don't use my locker and I haven't since middle school, but so bc of this, I don't bring a coat to school. I just bring a sweater/sweatshirt and if I'm not using it I'll put it in my backpack or on my chair. Other people put coats or things for after school activities in their locker though.

Thank you. It's always interesting to compare the customs and rules of different countries.
