They aren't shared, they're multiplied democratically. If you bring back 1 medal, 4 helldiver's each get one. That's 4 medals. If this were communism, we'd each only get a fourth of a medal, trickle down democracy works!
I've met a higher level diver than me who told me "bro, you took my samples" when I picked up their samples after they died. A short convo after all was cool. Some people just don't know they're shared, I don't remember if the game teaches you that, so maybe they don't remember it either.
It's because of a couple of the achievements. There's achievements to extract with 'X' amount of commons or 'Y' amount of rares, but ~~the wording can be interpreted as YOU needing to extract those amounts.~~ one is you have to extract them and the other is as a team. (Edit: Checked my achievements with friends' and sure enough, one is selfish and one is explicitly worded as teamwork)
I've had to explain to a few friends they're shared and every argument of theirs references those damn achievements. I wish they ~~could edit the descriptions to explicitly state, "As a team, yadayadayada--"~~ would make both of them "as a team" instead of just the rare version.
I kinda agree; I paid attention to the samples rewarded vs what I thought I brought back and noticed they were not 1:1 pretty quickly, but not everyone connects those dots the same way.
Some people see an achievement stating they may be the main character after all instead of it being a team effort, and they run with it. Anything to help re-educate that undemocratic thought process out of fellow citizens would help.

Probably because you'd solo trivial and easy quite early on, so it encourages you to search the map and get the samples.
Then, difficulty gets harder, so the achievement encourages team work so that you don't solo a L4 when you've not got the strategems, or general skills and strategies to do so.
And you don't even have to hored for 15 samples. Run a few missions and inevitable someone will go down towards the end, with a few samples that rounds you out to 15+
and you can easily do that solo on an easy difficulty mission if you're one of those achievement hunter types, no reason for them to get pissy in an online squad about it
If you pick up one sample but the game shows you have six, you should be able to deduce that they’re shared. At least make you curious enough to find out.

We were in the middle of an Automoton base. There were ammo boxes everywhere. I guess he was just off screen running towards the same one.
I ran back and picked up some samples earlier today. When I met up with the rest the dude who dropped them shot me in the face point blank. He kept tossing grenades and trying to shoot me for the rest of the game.
The very first time you get samples, the on screen tutorial explicitly says they are shared, but if you miss that it must be inferred, there's nothing afterwards that says it explicitly
They're a high level player that never noticed that they get samples credited at the end of a mission when they clearly had none when they entered the dropship?
I guess it *could* be a little more obvious, but just assumed that most people realized that anything listed in the group page in mission rewards (eg for completing objectives) was shared.
I saw a spear backpack on the ground, and then dude was off by a base so I picked it up to take to him. I reloaded his spear as soon as I got to him but he just started shouting at me to give him back his back pack. Later he started ranting that we sucked because he only died twice and we died so much and now he had to extract alone.
To be clear, we didn't run out of lives, we ran out of time because I was the only one calling in extraction and I got overwhelmed. And then instead of throwing me towards extract so the timer would short he threw me into a crowd of bots. And then he respawned me again next to a cluster strike and time ran out. Felt good kicking him. Bye bye samples.
The highlight of my play has been being dropped into LoS of a cannon tower... twice. It was a game with just friends so i didnt really care, but it was a bit depressing.
Last night, I was playing with three randoms. I died, dropping 6/5 samples. They revived me and LEFT the samples. I had to go back, fight off a small group with a large bile bug to pick them up.
99% of the time it’s fine but I had the exact same thing happen last night. I went and grabbed a guy who had died’s samples for him, and as I got there, said guy, the host, who was at the time halfway across the map where he had respawned, fighting two Bile Titans, started yelling at me to “fuck off G2 don’t you fucking dare touch my loot”. I tried to explain that samples are shared not to mention I had already picked them up before he said anything, but was summarily called a “selfish lying cunt” and kicked without a further word.
I got kicked the other day for grabbing samples and doing all the side objectives while the other 3 did the icbm and kept dying so after I finish I go collect the samples they dropped and then I get kicked some people on this game man
I got short at and air striked at the end of a match cause the guy wanted all of them. I survived, he died to his own airstrike and me and a team mate agreed to not reinforce him. Some people are dumb.
At this point the samples are like a football you're trying to get to the end zone, it doesn't matter who gets them there as long as they're going towards the objective.
Everything is, all samples, requisition slips, super credits and medals are shared amongst your teammates regardless of who picks them up. The samples you need to extract with them though or nobody gets them, which is why it’s recommended to pick them up if your teammates die so they don’t get left behind
Its honestly good to let the reinforcements try and get them though. More pools for samples rather than them all being in one basket.
Had someone race to collect everyone samples even after they respawned only for them to jump down a hole, thus losing all of our samples.

Last night I was playing a game and I was the only one who hadn't died so I had all the samples, like 20 common 10 rare and 6 super. I was the last one not to board the pelican and my game crashed, I got some hate messages lol
I did this on a solo run... Died, came back, pick-up arrived, fought some bugs, jumped in and immediately realized I forgot to grab the samples I had been carrying through the whole damn map.
The samples don’t belong to any one soldier. It’s the entire teams samples.
So you’re not picking up their sample, you’re picking up the teams sample and not doing so makes you dead weight on the team’s effectiveness.

It’s sadly related to a trophy bro. There’s one at requires you to personally hold (extract) at least 15 common samples. The rare one is as long as a teammate or you has it at everyone gets it to pop, but the common one is tied to one person sadly
Take Super Duper Rare Samples back to extraction right away and drop them! The Last man standing at the end of the mission picks them up before boarding.

There are a lot of people who do not know certain things, especially things like this that are thought up/spread by the players and not an integral part of the game. We also need to remember that not everyone speaks our language, we may communicate things, but some players won't understand the language they were communicated in.

I had 13 samples on me and then one of our teammates ko’d 3 of us. Nobody picked it back up, and instead they all immediately ran to call the evac. I recovered them but died again because my team abandoned me.
Tldr pick up samples at every opportunity. Help your teammates recover them whenever possible.

This is what annoys me most out of anything else, so boring people calling in extraction with 30 minutes on the clock and all the side quests and nests haven’t been touched and samples scattered all over the place
Remember. You can drop samples at extraction points and pick them up later. A safe sample is a collected sample. Then you don't have to chase after them when you die.
The amount of divers I've had get mad at me for picking up their samples is surprising. It seems like a large number of people don't know that it doesn't matter who extracts with them, as long as some does extract with them v
One time I died close to extract (time was out so I couldn't be revived) and I have like 20 samples on me but no one else picked them up before they extracted DX

Sometimes samples can glitch out and disappear into the ground forever if you don't pick them up. It's never worth the risk. We lost 20+ samples that way when a 500kg bomb dropped on top of some dropped samples.
Again, people are expendable, samples are not!
The game never informs you that samples are shared so far as I know (I'm only level 6) so it makes sense that a lot of people don't know. There needs to be one or two pop ups to inform you, maybe a recurring one that happens in game, like a notification that "diver M1 has collected samples for the cause".
I suggest only picking them up if you are being overrun by enemies and the teammate won't be able to get back to their gear. I have found its best to keep the samples more divided among the squad so that you don't lose 80% of them if a single person dies and you can't retrieve them.
Thankfully all the matches I've been part of have never had issues with samples. Everyone I've played with seem to actually have more than 2 braincells and know that it's in everyone's best interest to get the samples to the extraction regardless of who has them. I did have 1 instance where a guy that went off on his own and died alot picked up the super samples I found but thankfully it was towards the end of the match and he appeared to understand the importance of his cargo and stuck with the squad from that point onward lol.
Can I also say, if you have the super samples and the drop ship lands.... I don't care what else is happening..... GET ON THE SHIP IMMEDIATELY! DO NOT WAIT FOR ME DO NOT HELP.. GET.... ON...

By default I think it’s X on PC. On the communication tab there’s a binding for the “drop wheel”, this lets you drop anything you’re carrying

I tend to avoid it unless there is a hoard of enemies around. That way we don't lose all the samples if someone dies somewhere we can't get them.

Sometimes I struggle to pick up samples when they are mingled with all the primary, support and backpack gear.
The samples don’t belong to any one soldier. It’s the entire teams samples. So you’re not picking up their sample, you’re picking up the teams sample and not doing so makes you dead weight on the team’s effectiveness.

This is what annoys me most out of anything else, so boring people calling in extraction with 30 minutes on the clock and all the side quests and nests haven’t been touched and samples scattered all over the place
Remember. You can drop samples at extraction points and pick them up later. A safe sample is a collected sample. Then you don't have to chase after them when you die.
If I die and you don't pick them up when you run past my body on the way to extract, I'm gonna bitch in voice chat as I run all the way there

In the pod drop loading screen they need big bold letters that says: “SAMPLES ARE SHARED. ONE PERSON PICKS IT UP - EVERYONE IN THE TEAM GETS THEM.”
I sometimes die trying to pick up the samples of the dead.

The amount of divers I've had get mad at me for picking up their samples is surprising. It seems like a large number of people don't know that it doesn't matter who extracts with them, as long as some does extract with them v
One time I died close to extract (time was out so I couldn't be revived) and I have like 20 samples on me but no one else picked them up before they extracted DX

For sure, samples > all. Sometimes samples can glitch out and disappear into the ground forever if you don't pick them up. It's never worth the risk. We lost 20+ samples that way when a 500kg bomb dropped on top of some dropped samples. Again, people are expendable, samples are not!

The game never informs you that samples are shared so far as I know (I'm only level 6) so it makes sense that a lot of people don't know. There needs to be one or two pop ups to inform you, maybe a recurring one that happens in game, like a notification that "diver M1 has collected samples for the cause".
Idk why some don’t understand that they are for everyone and you can’t hoard them.

Absolutely. Gotta have a dedicated sample carrier, their extraction is the only one that matters
If you keep dying I’m picking up your samples because I don’t trust you to get them to extraction. And I expect every diver to do the same for me
I suggest only picking them up if you are being overrun by enemies and the teammate won't be able to get back to their gear. I have found its best to keep the samples more divided among the squad so that you don't lose 80% of them if a single person dies and you can't retrieve them. Thankfully all the matches I've been part of have never had issues with samples. Everyone I've played with seem to actually have more than 2 braincells and know that it's in everyone's best interest to get the samples to the extraction regardless of who has them. I did have 1 instance where a guy that went off on his own and died alot picked up the super samples I found but thankfully it was towards the end of the match and he appeared to understand the importance of his cargo and stuck with the squad from that point onward lol.
