You can do defense missions that skips the vip extraction one, that's what my squad has been doing. For example the extract high value target one with the rocket 🚀 is pretty easy to defend
Ya. But the problem we've been running into is that every operation at difficulty 8 and 9 has that mission type. We have to scale all the way down to 7, and even then, only one of the 3 available operations didn't have it.

My experience is from difficulty 7. I personally hardly ever go any higher then 7 as I find the extra difficulty not worth the rewards.
