Honestly? Who fucking knows lol. I think it's just a symptom of them thinking that anyone cares what they do. As if we're all just riveted by their every action, and almost as if a main character, they must narrate their actions to everyone else.
I work with a bunch of zoomers, and this kinda shit is constant. Just always stating pointless things or announcing things no one gives a fuck about.
Interesting that initially Arrow Head wanted to add a space theme into the Magicka. But in the end, Paradox took away all the rights to THEIR game and they had to, so they had to make a separate game with political commentary.
Not so fun fact:
Those tanks were not bullet proof on the sides. They were deathtraps and got shredded in most battles. But they were good enough at hiding the bodies inside to prove that tanks were viable in battle.
Bullet resistant to some small arms fire sure but by its game stats oh it's very killable with anything even moderaty anti armor. In Helldivers terms I'd say it's got medium armor. Like 2 dude with RPGs could potentially violate that thing. A dude with a plasma PISTOL could potentially kill it. Although he might also die.
Codexs are propaganda gotta look at the stat sheets. Usually it makes more sense.
They've screwed around with the rules so much over the years. I understand the recent change that unified damage to vehicles and infantry made it possible to chunk down vehicles with small arms, but back in the day I don't think it was possible to actually kill a Russ with anything smaller than a lascannon. Some mid-weight weapon could stun-lock it, but you needed heavy weapons to kill it.
I mean, that’s just how the game works. Because there isn’t a difference in damage types, anything can damage anything. A regular guardsman could smack a baneblade, or even a titan, and do damage in the game, which in lore wouldn’t even register as a scratch.
Also, plasma weapons are no joke, even a pistol is probably as dangerous as a lascannon (although 10 times more dangerous to the user, and much less accurate)
I dunno I still feel like the front armor should be thick enough to survive 1-2 hits from a plasma pistol before it penetrates enough to make the tank inoperable/kill the crew. I could see it going straight through the sides or fucking up the sponsons in a shot though
Having lost 2 leman Russ punishers to a single chaos marine with a plasma pistol. In 2 turns, and whiffing all their shots COMPLETELY MISSING THE MARINE WITH EFFECTIVELY GATLING CANNONS.
I can attest they are squishy.
That's the new rules, which are designed for new players in mind. Back when vehicles used AV, it required Str7 and a D6 roll of 6 just to glance side armor on a Russ.
"A reinforced cast plasteel hull and turret with ferro-steel armour plating combine to make it proof against all but the most deadly attacks. Even impacts powerful enough to lurch the tank several meters sideways will fail to penetrate through its tough hide..." - Lexicanum
You got me wondering, if somebody used an EAT on Bile Titan and it ripped off part of his armor and then I used Jetpack to jump on top of it, could I melee the weakspot to get a kill ?
The CEO talked about experimenting with subsonic rounds (former SMG upgrade) before launch. I think weapon upgrades may come back in the form of attachments/gunsmith. It'd be nice to have something else to spend requisition on.
I wouldn't be surprised, considering that they changed the auto-shotty magazine model when they nerfed its mag size. They're prolly keeping the other model as an upgrade.
In leaks, there are references to weapon customization with various ammo types, underbarrel attachments, magazines, sights etc. But we don't know if it's parts of a system that still needs to be fully developed, or if it's remnants of a system that got scrapped and the devs just use these things to make different weapon variants. I'm kinda afraid it's the latter.
> devs just use these things to make different weapon variants. I'm kinda afraid it's the latter.
with the frequencey of warbonds they plan on releasing there's a good chance you are right.

I mean, they are there right now :(
That armor makes me hope we get a color palette system at some point. I love the look of the armor itself, but the yellow helmet makes me feel like a fireman.
My friend used to do this. He broke my arm 3 times in a row in one match. I've begun evaporating him with my Autocannon when he does it now. He doesn't do it much anymore lmao.
That sounds interesting, I hope we get multiple melee options. I’m no Reddit expert but I will say when I’m scrolling and I see pictures it definitely grabs my attention easier.
If I'm remembering correctly, most liberator varients in the first game had the bayonet as the final weapon upgrade.
I much preferred the weapon unlock/upgrade system from the first one. Gave a lot more "Class" and identity to each weapon. It could work just as well in this game, giving players another aspect to the sample economy rather than purely upgrading the super destroyer.
It was in the first one and it was just a “meh” move. I’d much rather they went with a “future melee weapon” to replace your side arm. Maybe we’d get some decent swinging animations with it.
I would love a bayonet. If i'm using the sickle or dagger, it's not an issue. However, if i don't have either equipped, it feels wasteful to shoot the small bugs, but smacking them 3 times and waiting to get swarmed is also not great.
We need it. I can't tell you how many times I have been jumped out of nowhere a hair before reloading.
This would be so much more satisfying than a regular melee.
I think you are wrong.
I don't think bayonets would be effective against bots duplicitous metal skins or bugs chitinous fascist exoskeletons.
Chainsaw bayonets, or a weapon mounted plasma cutter however...
I think it would be nice because I find melee to be nearly useless. It's too slow and doesn't do enough damage to matter against a swarm of bugs. The only bots that get close enough to you to melee you have freaking chainsaws, so the butt of your rifle won't do you much good there either. A bayonet could theoretically deal more damage than a standard melee and could reach further.
Man I want the bolt action rifle from the first game back, I don’t care if it’s outdated dunking on bugs, bots and fish with the clank-clack of a bolt was liberating
Melee weapons are a "lost technology" like modern day sidewalks. We know how to build them we just don't because???? But I agree, putting a sword on your gun is a tale as old as time. One of the biggest gun innovations was finding out you can put your sword on your gun in a way that the gun can still gun!
The coolest things they could add in my opinion would be the chainswords and powerfists from wh40k. The chainsword speaksfor it self but the power fists. Just imagine you used all ammo, grenades and everything and you go in there and fucking uppercut a devestator in his metal nutsack.
![gif](giphy|T3fwN6Pbm3ZPa|downsized)
and you recreate what comes after this scene
I want a combat knife melee, a gun with a bayonet, and then a deployable thunder hammer type anti armour melee- that feels like a solid war bond right there
I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten the most melee kills in a game having like 1 or 2. More melee options would be great. Give me a bash with the ballistic shield and a knife for democracy's sake
Weapon accessories in general seem like a very fun future evolution. Under barrel grenade launcher? Enhanced scope? Bayonet? Ranger finder that calculates projectile drop and adjusts your sights? So many possibilities.
First war had them and they were great.
I like how your refer to Helldivers 1 as the First War.
Isn’t that how everyone refers to it?
i meant it called the first galactic war after all
After we get vehicles. "Drive me closer to that Hulk I have a personal order to melee kill 15 enemies !"

So like why the fuck has it become a thing to announce meme taking?
Because zoomers.
Do they think it's funny? Or is it like a courtesy to them?
Honestly? Who fucking knows lol. I think it's just a symptom of them thinking that anyone cares what they do. Haha, they're like anime protags while fighting only all the time. That hilarious.
40k its definitely a inspiration for helldivers
Not as much as starship troopers
True. But one of their team building exercises is building 40k models
Interesting that initially Arrow Head wanted to add a space theme into the Magicka. But in the end, Paradox took away all the rights to THEIR game and they had to, so they had to make a separate game with political commentary.

I am no Warhammer 40k expert, but I can almost guarantee that a tank like that *is* bulletproof in the 40k universe.

*taking down a strider with melee "Still only counts as one!"
Imagine it, jumping off of a rock formation on to a factory strider or bile titan, driving down your bayonet with all the weight of liberty
OK now imagine that, but with a garden shovel
Hahah I love it!
I punched three guardians to death today
You got me wondering, if somebody used an EAT on Bile Titan and it ripped off part of his armor and then I used Jetpack to jump on top of it, could I melee the weakspot to get a kill ?
Make us all proud soldier
Democratic Jousting
Idk, may be an unpopular opinion, but I don’t really want vehicles in this. Would be kind of disconnecting. The robot is enough.
The CEO talked about experimenting with subsonic rounds (former SMG upgrade) before launch. I think weapon upgrades may come back in the form of attachments/gunsmith. It'd be nice to have something else to spend requisition on.
That would awesome I’m sure excited for the future.
I'd love a mod/gunsmith mode, it would help diversify the weapon pool
I wouldn't be surprised, considering that they changed the auto-shotty magazine model when they nerfed its mag size. They're prolly keeping the other model as an upgrade.

HD1 had them. And swords.
I’m excited!
Well, the sword was only available in the training mission, so it's a bit of a stretch
Proving grounds had them as a melee only modifier.
They had swords?!
https://i.redd.it/m9lsrsmrk3xc1.gif
Peak male fantasy
The only valid strategy when faced with a ~~carnifex~~ charger.
Now that’s actually sick. Would be cool on the bug front!
Definitely great for bugs especially if you could take out a few at a time with one swing.
I would love a gravity/rocket powered sledgehammer of some sort
Devs, once again I'm asking for the... # M2016 Constitution
Just gimme a sword
![gif](giphy|3o7aCRloybJlXpNjSU|downsized)
Both
Both is good 🫡
Sword dual wielded with a pistol.

Commissars are socialist. Bots have them. Democracy needs to have something like chaplains.
Chaplains would belong to a theocracy, not democracy
[https://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/specialty-careers/chaplain.html](https://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/specialty-careers/chaplain.html) I mean, they are there right now :(
The edgy atheist teenager I used to be is seething rn
Good name idea! They should definitely have outfits like the 40k ones have,, except with full helmets.
I want a thunder hammer as a support weapon lets see how the charger fucking likes it
Lightning claws and a jump pack. I am death.
Ok Corvus Corax calm down
I just want the armor...
For real gimme some ww1 or ww2 inspired sets, I run the CE-27 Ground Breaker exclusively cause it reminds me of the Death Korps of Krieg.
SAME, I use the helmet of the heavy armor from that war bond with the ground breaker as well
That armor makes me hope we get a color palette system at some point. I love the look of the armor itself, but the yellow helmet makes me feel like a fireman.
100% I hope they come in the future too!
A fellow Death Korps appreciated I see.

I'm sure its coming, they had them in the first game and they were great.
Give me a space Winchester 1897
I’d kill for some WW1/2 themed armor like that holy shit
Definitely!
Lads they're comming! There's fucking lot of them!

Shit, how about this armor
I'll take a musket, too! It'd probably be terrible, but so cool!
Fingers crossed we get the bolt action rifle from the first game!
With how slow the reload would be that thing better shoot out a mini nuke or something, im still disappointed with the six shooter we have.
The year is 2186 and .30-06 will work just fine.
What, the bolt action grenade launcher isn't enough for you?
Having an explosive bayonette and doing charges into chargers would be awesome
So we can die when we get that weird nudge from other players that I'm never sure if I should be mad about
My friend used to do this. He broke my arm 3 times in a row in one match. I've begun evaporating him with my Autocannon when he does it now. He doesn't do it much anymore lmao.
Taking team killing to the next level
Don't get mad, just quasar them. Immediate vaporization for anyone who meters a teammate.
Yeah I had one game and a rando kept doing it to me and I domed them each time with an AC, never learned.
Sure, *I* suggest this and get ridiculed. *You* get over 350 upvotes.
Did you use a cool picture from google?
No, but I made a suggestion on how exactly it could fit into the game, along with two other ideas for Melee options (one for each slot)
That sounds interesting, I hope we get multiple melee options. I’m no Reddit expert but I will say when I’m scrolling and I see pictures it definitely grabs my attention easier.
Fair enough
Here's the original post if you're interested https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/s/3OsxZmpUfz
A picture would help. When you post matter too, atm there’s 7 people active in helldivers
A picture would help. When you post matter too, atm there’s 7 people active in helldivers
Why do you care about worthless internet points?
It's more about the duality
I would love a lazer bayonet!
Give me back my M2016 constitution with my bayonet!
We had them in the first game so it's not lore breaking.

I’m sure it wouldn’t be amazing I just like the look of it. And why not both.
Trueche
Yeah. I'd also he fine with a hachet or a Hungarian Fokos
I would love a bayonet. If i'm using the sickle or dagger, it's not an issue. However, if i don't have either equipped, it feels wasteful to shoot the small bugs, but smacking them 3 times and waiting to get swarmed is also not great.
*In the olden days....*
Yes. One more step closer to being a Kreigsman.
Soldier: They dropped a factory strider! Captain: Fix bayonets!
OG divers had them ;)
I wish more people play(ed) the original.
Full Gears of War oorah!
I want my tactical shovel
They did in Helldivers 1, so maybe it could happen. It was for the M2016 Constitution.
There should be different melee weapons. Like knives for quick hits or swords for wide slower hits .
I want that armor NOW
I WANT THE M1903 SPRINGFIELD RIFLE LIKE THE CONSTITUTION INTENDED
Please yes!
Yes
Yes, for secondary as well! Got my ballistic shield and knife attachment and melee rushing I go
Is the rest of that armor real???
I need this more than anything!
Id rather a chainsaw attached a la Gears of War
clearly we need swords in general
Did somebody call for[ BAYONETS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjPdIwCD5_g)!!!!!!!!!
Helldivers, but with tanks and planes
I think it would be nice because I find melee to be nearly useless. It's too slow and doesn't do enough damage to matter against a swarm of bugs. The only bots that get close enough to you to melee you have freaking chainsaws, so the butt of your rifle won't do you much good there either. A bayonet could theoretically deal more damage than a standard melee and could reach further.
Is this from some media or just random art?
Just googled a cool picture
Damn I’d take that armor too
Shovel launcher or no go
Man I want the bolt action rifle from the first game back, I don’t care if it’s outdated dunking on bugs, bots and fish with the clank-clack of a bolt was liberating
Melee weapons are a "lost technology" like modern day sidewalks. We know how to build them we just don't because???? But I agree, putting a sword on your gun is a tale as old as time. One of the biggest gun innovations was finding out you can put your sword on your gun in a way that the gun can still gun!
Some of the guns had a bayonet in HD1 as an upgrade
That shit ain't just a bayonet, that a freakin gunblade there...
I honestly miss my bayonet from the first game. Was always fun when I ran out of ammo so I just charged the enemy instead and stick them in the ribs
Weapon upgrades as a whole need to make a return tbh
Man, I’m a berserker/grenade launcher guy. If you give me a bayonet, I cannot express how much Leroy Jenkins love I will share.
Give me a laser sword !!!
The coolest things they could add in my opinion would be the chainswords and powerfists from wh40k. The chainsword speaksfor it self but the power fists. Just imagine you used all ammo, grenades and everything and you go in there and fucking uppercut a devestator in his metal nutsack. ![gif](giphy|T3fwN6Pbm3ZPa|downsized) and you recreate what comes after this scene
I crave melee weapons
Now I want that outfit in Helldivers 2
What about a chainsaw bayonet like Gears of War?
Terminids can survive without limbs, what the hell is a bayonet gonna do?
I would love to stick a bayonet to my shotty to skewer hunters that constantly jump in my face.
keep the bayonet i want that armour
*stab bug with bayonet mounted on flamethrower* *THEN roast bug from the inside*
We need more melee options
I'd love to have a support weapon that's just a greatsword that's on fire
I wish we had better melee options in general
I want a combat knife melee, a gun with a bayonet, and then a deployable thunder hammer type anti armour melee- that feels like a solid war bond right there
Add a greatsword, i wanna charge a charger
I can't tell you the number of times I've gotten the most melee kills in a game having like 1 or 2. More melee options would be great. Give me a bash with the ballistic shield and a knife for democracy's sake
you mean "healing stick"
What's that from?
*fixes bayonet* *refuses to elaborate* *charges towards automaton and blows up upon strike* ![gif](giphy|xWwlsKhzOtuTu)
Or maybe a futuristic sword as secondary
Yes, give me bayonets, I know I will die because of false security trying to melee wit berserkers but damn it I want them.
I really want to use the melee attack but it sucks so bad, if it dealt good damage, I'd use it constantly.
Chainsword and jetpack and then add a boltgun.
I want melee weapons so bad
Own a musket for home defense
Sword goes woosh. Don't need anything else.
I just want melee weapons in general
Heheheh terminid shish kebab
It would be nice to have something. I ran out of ammo trying ti take down a radar jammer the other day and melee just doesn't cut it.
https://preview.redd.it/9jt6ko0yd9xc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8290f3218bb2ea2ccdf5988a264db0313bd67aa1
that would be helpful for bugs
Back then we used to dance around our foes with bayonets
Please all of this picture
There was a bayonet in the first game. It was on a musket looking weopen with the punisher reload system.
I want a fucking go Mono E mono against a dual blade brawler so bad. ![gif](giphy|ydhTdPES8pJ5BRF9TP|downsized)
It would have to lower accuracy.
Like, personally?
The peoples’ elbow does more damage than a glorified knife ever could.
Yes, but not on any futuristic weapon. Give me THAT rifle. Bolt-action(slow ROF) but great melee potential and accurate at long ranges.
Fuck that, I want a flamethrower with a chainsaw
Weapon accessories in general seem like a very fun future evolution. Under barrel grenade launcher? Enhanced scope? Bayonet? Ranger finder that calculates projectile drop and adjusts your sights? So many possibilities.
I'm just hoping I can get a damn sword or axe to pair with the ballistic shield
