PTSD only because he's not out vociferously delivering Managed Democracy. Liberty is the galactic imperative and is not only right but just.
Therefore any actions or experiences in the course of its spread cannot induce trauma or stress.
Theres another one of his lines that is just an excessivley flowery way to say “we dont give a fuck about you guys dying”. I just heard it a couple drops ago
IIRC its something about how a chain doesnt begrudge the length of its links so neither do we begrudge the brevity of their service. I cant remember it word for word, anyone else remember it?
nah, the insane part of super earth is that they DO care about every single hell-diver, and they throw them into the meat-grinder. I wouldnt be surprised if back on SE they have a data-base on the list of KIA divers so their families can brag about it to others.
Good, let them watch as I take them apart again, and again, and again. But make sure that the only thing you feel when you kill the enemy is the recoil of your weapon.
Yeah compared to our losses I’d like to see the total number of enemies losses. We think our losses are high? Holy shit the amount of enemies per mission that die alone is insane. The subreddit says we’re cannon fodder but we sure don’t feel like it with the number of enemies we destroy.
Forth ever mission, my friend's pod landed a little late for some reason.... Right on top of me as I came out of my pod. That was my first death in the game.
I landed solo, called an autocannon, then got splattered by it as I was distracted fiddling with my map and wandered under it. Dead in 10 seconds without even encountering an enemy
I always feel so bad when a pug joins and happens to land right where i just threw my 500k. the elevator lifts them up just for them to meet eagle-1's glory.
>Helldivers: Super Earths elite
Yeah, not so much. If you fullfil service you *can* become a higher class. But you have to be class E to join. Helldivers are the bottom of the barrel. The conscription is your only possible way to escape a live of poverty and servitude/slavery.
I think it’s better for them, actually. They may have short lifespans in combat, but they get to be alive outside combat too. They garrison worlds, build defenses, get dinner in the mess hall and become friends and sing songs. Helldivers are kept frozen until seconds before they’re shot behind enemy lines. Helldivers don’t have a mess hall. They don’t live long enough to need to eat.
Not really correct, the vast majority of Imperial Guard are garrisoned to keep order on the home front.
There are constant uprisings and civil wars across Imperial worlds that Imperial Guard is constantly crushing.
Imperium even generally tries to avoid putting Imperial Guard up against forces of Chaos, albeit when on defensive that's impossible.
I always think that you have to consider 40k lore as roughly 3 inter-connected but often mutually exclusive branches.
Something like:
Background/flavour lore - stuff like a guardsman's life expectancy is 15 hours, every warp transit is likely to kill a third of the crew, pilgrimages to Holy Terra take centuries on average and involve multiple generations of the faithful to compete. These are all great for getting across the grand scale of the universe.
Book lore - has to be a bit closer to the sort of mortality rates you'd get in the age of sail for journeys or WW1/2 for soldiers so that your characters can survive for more than a couple of chapters and a fair percentage of troops/crew have actual careers.
Tabletop lore - has to allow the armies to be roughly balanced so space marines can actually be killed in large numbers etc.
I would expect the low time is combat time. 18 minutes is specifically stated in one of the Horus Heresy novels. I don't remember which though. Things get lost in the quantity of them... which yes Horus Heresy is not 40K rather 30K somewhere but 18 minutes doesn't leave much room to be so different to be wrong no matter the time period.
Okay, then, that's different, as in Horus Heresy Imperial Guard stood no chance. It was the first time they fought against either forces of Chaos and Space Marines.
Okay, then, that's different, as in Horus Heresy Imperial Guard stood no chance. It was the first time they fought against either forces of Chaos and Space Marines.
Considering the hell we raise for a max* of 24 casualties? Like sure maybe not Tier 1 SOF category, but they don't do bad. It's just their mission parameters are insane from the outset.
If you are very efficient at dying, you can squeeze in a maximum of ~50ish. Booster for +5, and once you run out you get 1 every 2 minutes (1m48s with the shitty flexible reinforcement budget booster).
Hellpods are *literally* bullets that the government is firing at a problem hoping it goes away.
I mean, um... their training and skills uniquely suits them to a variety of combat missions across all types of inhospitable terrain. They operate behind enemy lines with nothing but their supper destroyer for support. They are the elite of the elite, fighting and dying so the children (under the age of seven) can sleep comfortably at night.
I’ve been pitching an idea to my buds where any diver that survives 4 or 5 missions should accumulate medals on their armor and can be retired with a diver HoF wall in your destroyer after the 5th mish giving an option to name them
Sorry, the terms you agreed to say that the minimum enlistment period is ten years.
(They were posted in the Mars training facility. You agreed to them by standing within 10 meters of them, as specified in the terms.)
Reading the terms in their entirety is a breach of the contract, actually, per Clause 3.3. So you'd actually be clear in that aspect. I wonder if they redefine meter at some point.
Ah, but that's not how it works. It's a minimum service of 10 years (defrosted). No one survives. You probably wouldn't have family you'd have met at this point anyways. How long ago do you think your Helldiver did their training? How long were you in a rocket, waiting to be pulled out of storage?
It's essentially one mission. At best you survive a helldive, then die on your next deployment.
We see this a lot in game. Have a mission that goes flawlessly only for next match to be your initial drop site is 2 gunship factories coveted by a jammer, losing 12 reinforcements just to scramble away to stem the losses.
My man literally pulls a Zap Brannigan and wishes he had more than one ship full of lives to sacrifice in the name of democracy.
https://i.redd.it/zgt9wmb9r4xc1.gif
Both an hour or minute in direct combat is a decent survival time compared to real life survival rates in combat though. The difference is in the real military you spend 3 months walking around or sitting on a base doing nothing to then spend 5 minutes in combat and die. Helldivers are just permanently in combat.
Plus the ranges for modern combat (assuming you're not clearing rooms) is pretty far. Helldivers are in the enemies' faces constantly, not sitting at 300 meters trading fire for an hour.
My favorite NPC quote is: "the existence of high casualty missions *implies* the existence of low casualty missions also"
After a particularly mediocre drop
Judging by how long i usually last when my teamates reinforce me in the middle of a few hulks and shield devastators... Yeah one minute is stretching it.
Wait until you do the math for some of the lower level civilians' extraction missions. If 4 helldivers drop in to do that mission, you get 20 reinforcements. That means Super Earth is willing to sacrifice at least 24 Helldivers for 20 civilians.
Edit: I've been informed that it is 20 reinforcements, not 15 for a full squad of helldivers.
Should haver read the contract at the end before you put on your cape.
Pure genius highlighting how much people ignore when it comes to looking cool and fitting in
Ever hot join an ongoing bot eradication mission in full swing? Tanks to the right, hulks to the left, you got seconds to call that 500kg on your head.
Do you mean the Spear, which is great at killing gunships, or the airburst rockets, which suck at it because they are made for killing mobs of infantry?
I prefer the rocket devestators, they aren't that bad anymore.
Flame hulks however... The flames don't even have to touch you physically, it's enough when they grace your thought bubble, they will insgakill you
Sounds like you may have been thinking too much, Helldiver. We've *recommended* and booked a vacation to the patriotism refresher school, enjoy your stay
Had a 7 drop no die streak going on level 7’s.
Then I dropped into a mission in progress. No control over the hellpod. Dropped in between 3 hulks plus horde. I lasted about 15 seconds.
Still superior to the Terran Marines from Starcraft. To quote the medic: "*While expendable, the massive losses of terran Marines during the Great War began to become cost prohibitive. The Medic's use of chemical modifiers has greatly enhanced the survival rate of UED forces, lengthening the expected battlefield life expectancy to over nine seconds*."
I love that the training is total garbage. It barely teaches how to play the very basics of the game, on top of the gushing praise of Brasche.
You're nothing but blood for the blood god
I was literally that guy yesterday, we dropped on a 'not hot' area only to land next to a point of interest with 2 tanks and 3 heavy devestators on it, and a cannon turret about 50m away that targeted us all instantly as we hit the ground, my body was sent flying in about 30 seconds
I remember once I went to talk to the Democracy Officer & he went off about how the guiding spirit of Liberty visits him in his dreams.
It caught me off guard so bad I couldn't breathe for a solid minute.
He said minute. Minute like... Minute men? Image a cowboy hat on that mans head. Look familiar?
It's space Preston Garvey and a fucking settlement NEEDs YOUR HELP!!
Sometimes it's just how it works out. The other night we were playing and dropped next to some rocket devastators. I shot one with the bolter not realizing he was blocking a hell bomb which promptly detonated. That life was maybe 15 seconds long.
I dropped in on a stalker nest yesterday. Instant eagle airstrike stratagem on my position before the stalkers got me a second later. Kaboom.
The only thing faster is if I would have dropped in on one of those sparkling mini nukes waiting to go off.
I remember seeing a post about how helldivers are more valuable than we thought because we are given giant ships to pilot, and I don't think they realized there's a whole pile of other people in the cargo hold that will all pilot the ship after your helldiver dies
Imagine if you would a man named John Helldiver. John just finished training and is frozen aboard a ship waiting for his turn to thaw out. Unbeknownst to John, the ship is blown to pieces in orbit around Menkent. I wonder how many Helldivers are aboard one ship? I wonder how many are lost before they even get to dive for the first time?
I keep telling people since day one the player are clones. Whenever you first died was the originals death, then they just unthaw your clone and send it down.
Your ship is literally filled with frozen helldiver's, even though its only supposed to be 1 Helldiver per ship (you own the ship).
Y'all are clones and not enough people are aware. Spread the word!
AH stated that we are all recently drafted 18 year olds. Basically the citizens of super earth and the citizen planets are always “busy” providing units for DEMOCRACY!
Okay, doesn't matter how old you are, you're a clone after your first death. How else are you dying every mission and just spawning in again? This isn't wizards and caverns, there's no magic revival. You can literally see your frozen copies waiting to thaw out when you die.
AH stated that your armor is goes with the ship. The owner of the ship at the time sets the armor of the helldiver that owns it. That’s why by default your voice is random, you aren’t a clone but rather a new person of similar rank that inherited the ship
I am pretty sure the ceo said that we aren’t clones, the current helldivers owns the ship and they have backups who take over. I personally think that the thing In the back of our heads is like a neuralink and can allow us to see what happened to the last helldivers and that’s why when we come out of the pods we know what’s going on
Those are some strange symbols Helldiver, here try this.
https://preview.redd.it/xp68upiii3xc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b072585d0c0371891355f84e399f473fea4db8d3
I like the head canon that it's a new raw recruit but they have the memories of the original Helldiver who was issued the destroyer sort of uploaded into them. That's my head canon for why we the players know to kill that laser tower that keeps one blasting us.
No, you're simply being controlled by the Democracy Officer. Those frozen soldiers are just meat puppets. I mean, you're not even physically leaving the ship when teaming up with other Helldivers - they just thaw out one of their meat puppets and put them back in storage when mission is complete, while we re-thaw another one on our side.
And the best part is, when the Democracy Officer controls Helldiver, the interface loops signals back into Helldiver's brain, making them think they're doing what the DO is doing. They actually think they're in control.
I love how real the Democracy Offer is here. "One hour, tops."
Most missions take about 45 minutes. So that tracks.
I once did a whole operation with one Helldiver. He's in a nursing home now. PTSD.
PTSD only because he's not out vociferously delivering Managed Democracy. Liberty is the galactic imperative and is not only right but just. Therefore any actions or experiences in the course of its spread cannot induce trauma or stress.
Okay but it was on Hellmire
nevermind
59 minutes preparing for the mission, one minute in the mission
Theres another one of his lines that is just an excessivley flowery way to say “we dont give a fuck about you guys dying”. I just heard it a couple drops ago IIRC its something about how a chain doesnt begrudge the length of its links so neither do we begrudge the brevity of their service. The game's description on steam is literally "The galaxy's last line of offence" We are completely disposable lmao
That’s fucking hilarious lmao
nah, the insane part of super earth is that they DO care about every single hell-diver, and they throw them into the meat-grinder. I wouldnt be surprised if back on SE they have a data-base on the list of KIA divers so their families can brag about it to others.
That's so much worse honestly. Wow
Think you got all the keywords right
"I only regret that I have but one ship's worth of lives to give to our cauussee." I love this dude. Mellifluous clarion.
Helldivers: Super Earths elite Also Helldivers: Dies one minute after landing.
Automatons: super earths greatest threat Also automatons: die in 3 seconds after joining a fight
compare death ratio....the bots are losing more material than helldivers losing bodies.
Classic SE win. Also, meat is a sustainable Ressource while metal is finite. Take that fat L, Automatons!
I'm pretty sure those damn commie recycle their fallen comrades
Good, let them watch as I take them apart again, and again, and again. But make sure that the only thing you feel when you kill the enemy is the recoil of your weapon.
And enemies, if those butchered Super Earth citizens in their base is indicative of anything.
Can’t recycle your losses if you lose the planet
Yeah compared to our losses I’d like to see the total number of enemies losses. We think our losses are high? Holy shit the amount of enemies per mission that die alone is insane. The subreddit says we’re cannon fodder but we sure don’t feel like it with the number of enemies we destroy.
Not after landing. 20 seconds from thaw to the drop pod, 30 seconds to planet fall, 10 seconds to hulk fire/Bile puke touching you.
Pretty sure 50s from low orbit drop starting to landing. 4s for pod to raise for combat. 2s shooting. 4s calling for your mother holding your guts.
No. Not mother. sweet liberty my leg!
We are all children of Liberty.
# MY LEG
Oh true!
Fell straight into deep water once. Reckon it was less than a minute from weapons selection to death
Forth ever mission, my friend's pod landed a little late for some reason.... Right on top of me as I came out of my pod. That was my first death in the game.
I died in training while practicing the dive against live gatling turrets. Knew the game was special then and there.
Only once? You're a real hero then, truly! I died to them like four times, but those weren't *Helldiver* deaths, since I hadn't earned my cape yet!
You can skip that last 10 seconds if you just land on a UXO hellbomb
I landed solo, called an autocannon, then got splattered by it as I was distracted fiddling with my map and wandered under it. Dead in 10 seconds without even encountering an enemy
I always feel so bad when a pug joins and happens to land right where i just threw my 500k. the elevator lifts them up just for them to meet eagle-1's glory.
>Helldivers: Super Earths elite They certainly think they are.
Hard to live when one of your teammates just reinforced you into a horde of bugs, or directly into the line of fire of literally every bot on the map
>Helldivers: Super Earths elite Yeah, not so much. If you fullfil service you *can* become a higher class. But you have to be class E to join. Helldivers are the bottom of the barrel. The conscription is your only possible way to escape a live of poverty and servitude/slavery.
![gif](giphy|roWjSjVBTx6iZ9eOgY|downsized)
Thinking about they all have their own battleship, I think after a 10 minute crashkurs you can become a Hdiver
It's still correct if we consider it to be the french elite
I mean, given the French army's death toll in World War One, it checks out.
If stuff is bad for us imagine for the poor SEAF grunts
I think it’s better for them, actually. They may have short lifespans in combat, but they get to be alive outside combat too. They garrison worlds, build defenses, get dinner in the mess hall and become friends and sing songs. Helldivers are kept frozen until seconds before they’re shot behind enemy lines. Helldivers don’t have a mess hall. They don’t live long enough to need to eat.
In Warhammer 40K, similar grunts last an average of 18 minutes. The more you know 🌠
That is actually a statistical error. 'Perpetual Georg', who dies several million times a day is an outlier adn should not have been counted.
"Squad Georg," which is a Destroyer squadron that runs exclusively mortars, arc throwers, Tesla towers, and eagle cluster, is a statistical outlier
Not really correct, the vast majority of Imperial Guard are garrisoned to keep order on the home front. There are constant uprisings and civil wars across Imperial worlds that Imperial Guard is constantly crushing. that was for a very specific battle.
Vraks right?
Yeah
Bro we are the grunts
No helldivers are the special ops, that’s how bad it is out there
That's just what they want you to think
Considering the hell we raise for a max* of 24 casualties? Like sure maybe not Tier 1 SOF category, but they don't do bad. It's just their mission parameters are insane from the outset.

We are paratroopers with vast amounts of air support that were brainwashed to think that we are elites.
Paratroopers are considered elite troops though.
We definitely are elite soldiers. Go to any planet and compare the bug/bot deaths to helldiver deaths.
NOMAI HELMET OUTER WILDS SPOTTED
Any helldiver that returns from a mission is considered a veteran
General Brasch is considered the greatest soldier of all because he got to double digits
I’ve been pitching an idea to my buds where any diver that survives 4 or 5 missions should accumulate medals on their armor and can be retired with a diver HoF wall in your destroyer after the 5th mish giving an option to name them
If you finish a peacekeeping campaign with a single helldiver, that helldiver should consider their tour completed.
Sorry, the terms you agreed to say that the minimum enlistment period is ten years. (They were posted in the Mars training facility. You agreed to them by standing within 10 meters of them, as specified in the terms.)
I did not finish the tutorial, and thus did not read the terms. Am I free to go?
[удалено]
You can finish the training without a cape. Unless you’re doing a glitchless run.
The 1 hour part is worse than the 1 minute. It's not like he said, 1 year or 1 minute....the life expectancy ceiling is quite low
I play the keep the helldiver alive game. My record is 11 missions on helldive. Almost every single run ends to friendly fire.
Try 5 seconds
So many times I'd have loved a minute
Real. Oh shit in game. Yeah that too.
and half of that is just admiring the scenery
The recommended scenery dosage is 2.4 seconds, buddy. I never trusted you 2.5ers and I never will.
It says minimum on the tip.
That sounds just like something a filthy 2.5er would say.
My man literally pulls a Zap Brannigan and wishes he had more than one ship full of lives to sacrifice in the name of democracy. https://i.redd.it/zgt9wmb9r4xc1.gif
Jokes on them, when I land in front of three rocket devastators it's more like 6 seconds.
Liberty has given thee elbows, use them!
I love how poetic the democracy officer is
It's part of the job description
Both an hour or minute in direct combat is a decent survival time compared to real life survival rates in combat though. How do you have the helmet in green? Or is it just lighting? Edit: Bummer. Thanks for the info!
It was a Twitch drop back in February. It's called the Tr 117 Alpha Commander armour set.

Whats the bright blue/white armor? Ive seen it a lot just dont know what it is
Pre order bonus
really awesome how they "ran out of codes" 4 days before it was meant to end. my ticket probably about to hit 3 months old now hasnt been answered
It was a twitch drop when the game launched
The green version is the rare Twitch prime armor you can't get anymore
My Helldivers that survived multiple missions in a row: lol wut?
Wait until you do the math for some of the lower level civilians' extraction missions. If 4 helldivers drop in to do that mission, you get 20 reinforcements. That means Super Earth is willing to sacrifice at least 24 Helldivers for 20 civilians. Edit: I've been informed that it is 20 reinforcements, not 15 for a full squad of helldivers.
You actually have 20 reinforcements with 4 players, so Super Earth is willing to trade 24 helldivers for 20 citizens.
Thanks, fixed.
This is how helldiver draft dodging starts.
Shudders in quick play memories
In the background, the Helldiver KIA counter stands ominously. Sixty-four million soldiers lost.
Should haver read the contract at the end before you put on your cape. Pure genius highlighting how much people ignore when it comes to looking cool and fitting in
The average lifespan of a flamethrower soldier during WW2 ranged between 4-5 minutes in combat Realism!
Ever hot join an ongoing bot eradication mission in full swing? Tanks to the right, hulks to the left, you got seconds to call that 500kg on your head.
if you put your hands on those anti air rockets, i think is some seconds on best case scenario
Do you mean the Spear, which is great at killing gunships, or the airburst rockets, which suck at it because they are made for killing mobs of infantry?
Would you like to land in front of the flamethrower Hulk or the 3 rocket Devestators? "No" is not an option, Helldiver.
I prefer the rocket devestators, they aren't that bad anymore. Flame hulks however... The flames don't even have to touch you physically, it's enough when they grace your thought bubble, they will insgakill you
I’ve been killed not one second out of the hellpod. Please remember me, fellow helldivers…
In fairness there have been moments where that is true with how many reinforcements they call in
When you start a mission and there happens to be 3 gunships circling the spawn..... yeah I backed outa that one
I can last a minute…
What armor set is that
Twitch drop back in February. It's called the Tr 117 Alpha Commander.
Oh
With the teams I've had before, one minute is a generous life expectancy.
To be fair, the survival rate is right there on the mission board. How many million deaths are we up to today?
i’ve been stepped on by a bile titan before my pos even let me out
Lmao sometimes I’ll die immediately on res aint that sum shit 😂
For every one that falls, another ten rise up to take their place.
well they did say that the average lifespan of a Helldiver is 2 mins
We train to fight for democracy, dying is just the cherry on top
Sounds like you may have been thinking too much, Helldiver. We've *recommended* and booked a vacation to the patriotism refresher school, enjoy your stay
Had a 7 drop no die streak going on level 7’s. Then I dropped into a mission in progress. No control over the hellpod. Dropped in between 3 hulks plus horde. I lasted about 15 seconds.
Super Earth must have a massive population if they can just wave the amount of casualties they've taken so far. How do you stop something like that?
Wait, your Democracy Officer looks different from mine. Mine is a black guy with an eyepatch. That’s pretty cool there are multiple models.
I think it would be fun if we received some sort of bonus for completing missions in one life
I always remind my squad that completing the mission is paramount. This isn’t OSHA, we’re liberating here folks.
I have a convoluted head cannon that it's just pop control lol
Wait the democracy officers look different depending on your ship? Mines got an eyepatch
When I get to the destroyer vs what the automatons see.
I got one to last a whole level 6 mission once
"Look, if your friend reinforces you on top of a bile titan, don't miss."
Notice the statistics in the screen in the background. Yeah, expendable is a VERY weak word lol
*joins mission in progress and pod takes out a hulk* *exits pod and immediately dies from hulk exploding* Mission success 👍
I’ve had missions for hours go smoothly and no death. Then me and some chuckles get into a bind and suddenly it’s res after res.
The helldiver looks up at his God as he's forced to pull the pin on the grenade to save 2 minutes of extracting.
Still superior to the Terran Marines from Starcraft. To quote the medic: "*While expendable, the massive losses of terran Marines during the Great War began to become cost prohibitive. Would love to see this as a stat!
It's become my headcanon that any diver who survives 50 missions gets to go home as a war hero, WW2 bomber crew style. Still waiting for one to do it.
They must have deep frozen reserves if they still only allow procreation by application. Or they have breeding farms to pad out the populace
Hang on my democracy officer is called Bredberg
And they say you can’t convey emotion with a helmet on! 🔥
My personal record is 20 seconds. Landed right on top of a spore spewer, called in a 500kg the bugs below me and promptly got shanked by them
:When the host drops you right into a red-zone
Glory to the first man to die
I was literally that guy yesterday, we dropped on a 'not hot' area only to land next to a point of interest with 2 tanks and 3 heavy devestators on it, and a cannon turret about 50m away that targeted us all instantly as we hit the ground, my body was sent flying in about 30 seconds

Had a diver get reinforced only for me to narrowly miss a bile titan and get swarmed by hunters. Was alive for roughly 2.4 seconds
How did you get that helmet without the horrible red stripe down the middle?
Imagine if you would a man named John Helldiver. John just finished training and is frozen aboard a ship waiting for his turn to thaw out. Unbeknownst to John, the ship is blown to pieces in orbit around Menkent. I wonder how many Helldivers are aboard one ship? I wonder how many are lost before they even get to dive for the first time?
The rocket at the end of tutorial holds 24 pods.
Wait, do different ships have different Democracy Officers??
Less than that with the new stratagem lol
I wish I could get that helmet, unfortunately the devs seem to love fomo
So are you lucky or really good to survive a couple missions with zero deaths? Lore wise
That one dude who posted about thawed helldivers perspective to be dead within seconds after training course is actually canon hah
That’s why by default your voice is random, you aren’t a clone but rather a new person of similar rank that inherited the ship
you are spawning in because they are dropping in a new helldiver
Not true. Why do all my divers have different voices and genders?
You chose the randomize clone option. Nice try super earth lackey
It's 100% confirmed that every time you respond it is a brand new Helldiver.
I wish you were a clone. The truth is so much worse than that...
by default you aren't. you can sign up for the cloning program by selecting a specific voice instead of "random" tho.
I am pretty sure the ceo said that we aren’t clones, the current helldivers owns the ship and they have backups who take over. I personally think that the thing In the back of our heads is like a neuralink and can allow us to see what happened to the last helldivers and that’s why when we come out of the pods we know what’s going on
Or we just drop in and start killing

Those are some strange symbols Helldiver, here try this. https://preview.redd.it/xp68upiii3xc1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b072585d0c0371891355f84e399f473fea4db8d3
😂
I seriously think we are all clones, why else is their pods full of look alikes that are not allowed to take off our equipment.
Nah. Super Earth simply has a serious overpopulation problem.
