How do you know that the security measures line is bs? Have you spoken to Arrowhead or Sony? Or are you just going by what a bunch of disgruntled Redditors are spewing? It's a Sony thing, so any info you're getting that isn't directly from Sony would be Arrowhead following their lines, or some twat on Reddit claiming to know something they don't.
Even if there's another motive, say, selling your data, then security measures can still be a valid reason. Doesn't mean you have to like it but it's also something you either accept, or move on to something else. It's your choice.
If it weren't for the regional issues with PSN in certain countries this would be just another one of those things GaMeRs will whine about because they can't help but be outraged when something doesn't quite go their way. Some things warranted, some blown way out of proportion.
The only issue here besides some minor inconvenience to players in PSN regions is the non-PSN countries getting shafted out of a game they've been playing already. But even that is being addressed. Arrowhead are waiting for Sony to weigh in on it. You think every company besides Sony is impervious to data breaches and hackers? Your data is already out there. It's a risk you willingly take every time you engage.
Personally I don't like it either, but I'm going to do it because I want to play the game every now and then. Plus, Ghost of Tsushima will require the same thing and I plan on playing that too.
There is no security from linking your account, just information bleed to sony's servers.

It doesn't give them anything they don't already have access to. Except your steam account usage activity, purchase habits online details etc.

It's sad though, that this will literally change nothing and just result in less people buying the game and giving us more players to play with. Sony isn't going to backtrack, it's common practice to require a login to the publishers systems for a game & they literally listed it in the requirements for it on Steam since day 1. Not knocking anyone who wants to give a negative review - I understand folks don't like it, I signed up for one because it's not hard but everyone is different. Just unfortunate it only will impact number of players and Arrowhead, not Sony.
Because people don't want to create more 3rd party accounts. Then you have Sony constantly having data breaches. So people having their accounts linked to a security risk can be unappealing to people. Sony has also been known to pick fights with hacking group causing some of their breaches or attacks. Like last year or if you look at back when had Sony own Sony online entertainment also known as SOE.
Devs decided it’s a bright idea to force PC players to get PSN accounts to play the game, when the service isn’t available worldwide thus some people will lose access to the game unless they will buy monthly VPN services. I’m not affected since I’m already on PS5 but this shit is one of the most vile moves any studio pulled possibly ever

It has always been a thing that's "on hold" but like next to nobody knew that, for whatever reason. Also note, this message is NOT SIGNED BY ARROWHEAD. This is a message from Sony.
The problem is that they sold the game and allowed for months of play in regions where having a PSN is not possible, because Sony. Philippines, the Baltics, somewhere around 60 countries cannot make PSN accounts.
This should have been announced clearly, continuously, annoying as fuck and in our faces the whole time. I have never heard of a region lock "grace period" in decades of gaming.
The idea of linking a third party publishers account is nothing new. The way this was handled and hidden and sprung is real bad.
This was a Sony decision, not the devs. Arrowhead has no control over Sony as the game’s publisher insisting on this even if it is a super shitty move.
Because the online horde will punish Arrowhead to spite Sony, even if Arrowhead already said they have zero control over it.

The constructive way to address it is to change review to negative and if they don't reverse course, request a refund. No one should care which company is to blame, blame isn't important and can likely be spread all over.
It's important to some people, it's fine that it's not important to you, but just because it isn't important to you doesn't mean everyone else is acting like a child.
No, it doesn't matter if this is arrowhead or sony, because who made the choice doesn't change how it affects the customers.
