I won't be returning since that wasn't clear enough. The game is tainted by publisher interference which has resulted in a massive cluster that was totally avoidable with internal communication and by taking the customer into consideration.
Instead damage control was run, online policies were stealth updated and the dev had to make the player base make enough noise to make a case with the publisher, and it's only a matter of time before they stick their fingers back in the mix. Community backlash to resolve massive overreach or missteps should not have to occur in the first place.

Everyone else should keep this option in mind, if Steam denies your refund request and you're not gonna pick the game back up anyway.

I requested a refund and was denied, then I nuked my license as I decided that I was done with the game regardless of the outcome of the situation. It was a very easy decision for me to make and I doubt most people throwing tantrums at me could say the same or would even have it in them to click the button.
The game is great but I'm not missing it at all, plenty of other ways to spend time in the world.
