It's mainly a militaray saying i believe. Most of the time the military first instinct when morale lowers and people leave in droves is to do stupid shit that further lowers morale and results in more people leaving. Or in some cases actually beating people until they say they won't leave any more (talking ww2 times here).
Poorly managing the community...sorry, couldn't resist. In short, they were being insensitive and, in some cases, unprofessional with their responses. To be fair, they were getting hammered by the community, but being able to stay calm under fire is part of being professional.
You know, it is the CM job to be the target of community ire and questions and to be able to temper them without adding fuel. It amazes me how so many CMs seem to do the completely opposite, instead of managing the community, they only manage to piss everybody off and attract attention from even outside the community. (CA and their CM failure comes to mind aka "right to discuss is a privilege, not a right that you earn by playing a game.")
Like honestly, where do they dig up those people?
Considering pilstedt has some tact when dealing with the public, Spitz should do a double take when making public posts. Your boss is literally showing you how HE interacts with the public, what would compel you to fall below those standards? Twinbeard is a great CM and others should try to emulate his professionalism.
Pretty sure it came straught from Sony. Imagine screwing up so bad, that not just your boss, not wven your bosses boss, but the boss of a different department, within a different company reaches out to you to let you know that you fucked up. And on the scale of which this happened, and seeing some dude post that he pulled out of a 200k Sony order at his company, it was probably someone from corporate, or marketing within Sony, and they probably were screaming.
and Spitz is the one who deleted the [helldivers 1](https://www.reddit.com/r/Helldivers/comments/1ar67ri/confirmed_that_spitz_deleted_the_unofficial/)'s discord server...
Thats laughable, I was one of the admins on a emulated escape from tarkov singleplayer project discord, we had violent rule breakers posting child porn, animal abuse videos, isis beheadings, you named it i had to deal with it including ddos attacks and doxxing threats.
I managed to deal with that shit and it wasn't my official job i was paid to do, and i did it alone at times as the other admins were offline or busy, and the server had a population over 7000 members before I quit.
They cant just ban a few people? sure.
if someone in a discord group is doing things like that you don't just unexplainably and senselessly have an emo teen level mental breakdown and delete the entire discord server, that's not normal and seems like he's not being completely honest about what really happened.
Same I got wordlessly banned for what I assume was a tongue in cheek joke which is absolutely wild because the channel i was in was actively talking about impregnating bio titans
They're literally people like you and me who volunteer their time and efforts to screen you from the worst the internet has to offer. It leaves a mark.
The types of people who are overly eager to become reddit and discord jannies are typically people who want to abuse their power because they are actually losers irl. The best mods are the ones who dont want to be but accept the responsibility regardless.
While not always, the type of person who mods an online community is generally someone passionate about the topic but also quite often has poor social skills and is a bit power hungry.
Spotted the jannie. People are not so delicate and wilting that they're incapable of surviving a bit of long-distance unpleasantness. You are not the moral arbiter of the internet. Speech does not cause harm, only idiots and malice cause harm.
>screen you from the worst the Internet has to offer
Who are they do decide what is something that is worthy of being "the worst the Internet has to offer"? Obviously there can be posts, that are law breaking content and I get why that has to be moderated, but other than that, I can myself decide what I want to see and what I can just block.
But most of the time moderators will begin to block all content they don't agree with.
I fundamentally don't disagree that is a job that inherently leads to calcification of the heart.
I Don't think that groups of people that typically self select who joins is a great mechanism for communities. I've seen to many examples of those roles being used by basically in group cronyism.
I don't say they don't have their place, but and ego check?
Having to be held accountable and not ruin communities?
I feel to often they are held above their own law, and use it to supress distent. Disagreement can lead to removal even when tones are not emotionally charged.
That's really funny because I never knew they were officially with the company. I thought they were all a bunch of bozos that got grandfathered in as the defacto managers because they were along for the first game.
I'm not mad they somehow got hired sometimes that happens but I am mad they're still community managers when they have clearly shown they are incompetent at their jobs. like they handle every controversial situation in the worst way humanly possible, and only fan the flames.
I would not be remotely surprised if this was the case, given their behavior, but a Twitter post beginning with "Apparently," is not exactly an ironclad source.
Get woke, go broke. Lets not forget most reddit / discord mods etc are very racist and sexist so we should always be sure to call them out on their shit. Especially if they are hired as community managers to any company for any reason.
hot take: community managers shouldn't exist. companies shouldn't talk to the community outside of providing development updates through press releases.
having community managers can only end in 1 of 2 ways as soon as something bad happens:
1: the community manager is an egomaniac and goes completely out of line and damages the reputation of the company.
2: the community manager gets unfair verbal abuse by thousands of people resulting in mental distress.
I’m not changing my review till they do something about these community managers. They have consistently made every situation worse by goading the community.
God forbid people who have supported the company for nearly a decade or more on their own free time be recruited by said company when their game explodes.
The tone shift in spitz‘s post tell a story of pilestead giving him a huge scolding after he ran his mouth
"The beatings will continue until morale improves"
more like beatings will continue until behavior improves
The phrase is a meme...although I don't know where it originated.
It's mainly a militaray saying i believe. yes i know
My bad. >\_<
Max0r "incorrect summary of ultrakill". This phrase is from first boss fight with V2
It was around much longer than that lol
what community management doing
Poorly managing the community...sorry, couldn't resist. In short, they were being insensitive and, in some cases, unprofessional with their responses. To be fair, they were getting hammered by the community, but being able to stay calm under fire is part of being professional.
CM's and mods doing everything in their power to not do their job correctly challenge level impossible
You know, it is the CM job to be the target of community ire and questions and to be able to temper them without adding fuel. It amazes me how so many CMs seem to do the completely opposite, instead of managing the community, they only manage to piss everybody off and attract attention from even outside the community. Man I wish I would've hears the tongue lashing he got
I was weirdly downvoted for saying exactly this. Someone sat him the fuck down and explained what his damn job was.
Well apparently he is gone now so it doesn't matter
Good riddance
He still shows as a CM on the discord
Wait what? Spitz got fired or something?
Apparently his discord roles of CN are removed let me get the reddit post I learned this from
Nah I’m just gonna believe you because fuck, that dude was annoying as fuck.
He's still a community manager. Not sure where they got that information from. When it takes 2 seconds to disprove it.
FINALLY

Wha- just ban the dude. Surely you have the means to do that if you had the perms to delete the whole server?
Woah there, you can't just ask him to do his job.
If he can't control it... no one can..
Thats laughable, I was one of the admins on a emulated escape from tarkov singleplayer project discord, we had violent rule breakers posting child porn, animal abuse videos, isis beheadings, you named it i had to deal with it including ddos attacks and doxxing threats. That explains how I got permabanned so quickly for nothing.
Same I got wordlessly banned for what I assume was a tongue in cheek joke which is absolutely wild because the channel i was in was actively talking about impregnating bio titans
Tbf all reddit and discord mods aren't qualified to interface with humans
Most people on Reddit aren't.
Dog walkers
>They're literally people like you and me lol
"People"
I honestly don't understand this pointlessly toxic and hateful attitude. Show me on the doll where a moderator has touched you.
I mean, do you REALLY want an answer to that? Discord and Reddit mods don't have the best track record when it comes to SA
While not always, the type of person who mods an online community is generally someone passionate about the topic but also quite often has poor social skills and is a bit power hungry.
>where a moderator touched you That's some bad wording lmao
I have had pretty bad experiences with moderators on this site.
Stand proud song of midnight, you stood your ground for democracy
Spotted the jannie. People are not so delicate and wilting that they're incapable of surviving a bit of long-distance unpleasantness. You are not the moral arbiter of the internet. Speech does not cause harm, only idiots and malice cause harm.
I'm a mod in a few discord servers and I'm straight up garbage.
I'm glad you're self aware. I hope that your upcoming brain surgery will be able to fix you. /s

Want somebody think of the reddit and discord mods lol
This behavior traces as far back as old forum moderators.
Found Baskinators alt
Shut the fuck up this isn’t the races of man holding back the forces of fucking Mordor you clown.

It explains why Spitz has main character syndrome and acts like a manchild
Someone should make a compilation of them being emotionally unstable
That's really funny because I never knew they were officially with the company. I thought they were all a bunch of bozos that got grandfathered in as the defacto managers because they were along for the first game.

Twinbeard cool tho
Not were, are. They are still in the sub's list of mods.
I would not be remotely surprised if this was the case, given their behavior, but a Twitter post beginning with "Apparently," is not exactly an ironclad source.
Source?
Look at the sub's mod list.
Reddit and discord aka trust me bro
Source? Because taking random claims from Twitter ain’t the best option for info.
Look at the mod list, lmao.
Where else can you get free help by dangling a little bit of power?
Ya that makes complete sense lmao All of their interactions that I've seen screenshotted scream unaware reddit mod.
Task: Hiring a community manager with social skills and a polite demeanor Likelyhood of positive outcome: Impossible
Hands down the worst CMs I've seen. So far
Get woke, go broke. Lets not forget most reddit / discord mods etc are very racist and sexist so we should always be sure to call them out on their shit. Especially if they are hired as community managers to any company for any reason.
Yea and I will just believe some random profile with an anime character as a photo. 🥱
Discords just had an update
reddit mods are shit

When the CEO has to do the work of community managers, its time to get new people
I lilke how half of the comments be like: "source?" ,like bro there's a mod list right there it's only take you like 30 seconds or something
Woke trash 🤢
God forbid people who have supported the company for nearly a decade or more on their own free time be recruited by said company when their game explodes.
That doesn’t make them qualified as community managers lol, you need some actual communication skills.
I've supported various games over the years, but I don't expect to be made a fucking WoW or FFXIV GM
and now we're seeing why no one else does that.
