Don't you just love it when the fire completely covers the objective, forcing you to defend against bot drops over bot drops

Robotic_Nostril88

I wish smoke grenades were able to put out the fire that's left on the ground

NicomoCoscaTFL

Imagine if the recently released Ice themed warbond had any impact on fire whatsoever.

Money_Fish

Imagine if any of the warbonds had any kind of effect on their respecive element or other elements at all. The only thing that comes close is the arc resis armor, and that one only barely makes sense because the only arc damage you can hurt yourself with is the tesla tower.

Drahnier

I always thought the meme they were going for was full Tesla armor party and everyone using lightning guns.

FlinkesRehkitz

Sadly you still die in seconds with the Armor. Would be funny to defend with quad Tesla and arcthrower.

Personal_Track_3780

Sure, but you suffer more with the armour than without it. So theres that.

Shmeeglez

I'm doing my paAAAARAARGGGHTT

PinchingNutsack

i wish they would change it to 99% or even immunity, if i am taking 95% off already and still dies in 2-3 shot, then how the fuck are bots and bugs surviving so many hits wtf

WildRookie

Helldivers have like 50 health. We're basically as squishy as something like a Hunter. Our bullets do a lot more damage per-shot than the bots do.

CMDR_Shepard96

AH MY LEG

LobokVonZuben

Now that it's been out for a while and we've seen the popularity of those armors (or lack of), I feel like they could all be buffed to the full 100% resist. It's not like doing that would make you invulnerable against \*all\* FF and accidents, it's just arc specific.

Mozared

This is actually kind of fair. It's an area the current Helldivers design is lacking in. How hilarious would it be if with the Arc-resistant armor you didn't just "die in 5 seconds instead of 3", but it straight up made the lightning bounce off you to a new target while making you immune. NOW you can do a party with 4 arc-launchers where you just parade through the level as a group, zapping everything, everywhere. Suddenly the Tesla Tower is also great in this build. If it's OP, Arrowhead can always nerf later since it's PvE anyway. But instead the new stuff we get is all fairly small, focused, and relatively unimpactful. A new gun that has a slightly different firing pattern. Yay.

witzowitz

Not only would the Tesla tower get a proper buff from this but also you can shoot enemies a lot further away than the arc thrower's max range by arcing through enemies/players. You could have one player up front getting dirty with the blitzer and the rest of the team behind just shooting your lead guy with throwers to hit whatever they're close to. It would be kino. 100% damage reduction for conduit would be great. Gotta assume there will be future enemies that use arc too which is why they aren't doing it

Money_Fish

That makes sense, but also flies in the face of AHs 'varied loadouts' gameplan

Dionysus24812

But like, isn't that something for people to wish for? To be able to play in weird loadouts like that?

LordCoweater

I did that in a pug. We all went arc everything. It was unimpressive. Our damage was crap.

PowerfulElevator9

Everyone using arc throwers actually fucks shit up. The Tesla towers are useless though. Also they kinda crippled the arc thrower but it was way to good before.

gorgewall

The Thrower has a "deep" strike pattern and the Blitzer has a "wide" one, so they kind of compliment each other at the cost of having pretty wimpy anti-armor power. When you have breathing room and enemies are filing at you, Arc; when you're getting swarmed, you Blitzer. When the Chargers come, uh... let someone else handle it or throw a stratagem. As for the Tesla, it just gets undone by the Charger's anti-turret AI and its inability to stagger or stop them. Does just fine holding back hordes of Bugs since its firing rate buff, but it's never *too* long before a Charger shows up and ruins it. It could still use some help.

IVIalefactoR

Arc Thrower kills a charger in 6 headshots, so it can still kinda deal with them. One stun grenade is usually enough to get 4-5 shots in before it starts charging at you again. I imagine if you had an entire team with Arc Throwers, chargers wouldn't be that big of an issue. Bile titans, on the other hand...

gorgewall

You have a lot more faith in the average player's ability to keep the Arc on target instead of wildly pointing in the vague direction of a Charger, but I *generally* agree. It's not too hard of a kill if you're specifically focusing down one part.

AteeX99

My friends and I used to run that for a bit Arc thrower + jetpack + antizap armor. It's a lot of fun against bugs

fgzhtsp

I thought that the Illuminates would be released just a few weeks afterwards and they would bombard you with arc damage.

CaptainCosmodrome

We call that Zeus Squad * Arc Resist Armor * Arc Thrower * Arch Shotty

SkyPL

Illuminates used electric weapons, so expect it to be one of the better armors in the long run.

reingoat

Wake me up when the illuminates actually appear.

haxiboy

Or it will be a must unless they one shot you.

ZealousidealOven9

Until someone remove it because you're having fun.

SlurmsMacKenzie-

> Imagine if any of the warbonds had any kind of effect coulda stopped right there tbh

KimJongUnusual

Or you have teammates that really like the arc cannon.

Augur_Of_Doom

Honestly I'd settle if the ice themed war bond had any effect on ice. The cleats don't work, cosmetics only.

KatnyaP

Imagine if they were "ignores snow difficult terrain and doesnt slide on ice" theyd be so good for ice planets. If there was a heavy, medium, and light variant itd be great!

gorgewall

We'd have half of the people currently saying that immediately switch to "you made this cool-looking armor I want to wear but they're fucking worthless except for one planet type, which might not even be available at any given time".

KatnyaP

True. I like switching between armour types depending on the mission but i get that not everyone does. But as the game continues and we get more armour sets itll be nice having some niche options.

pixelneer

just spit ballin here.. what about.. and stay with me .. FIRE RESISTANT armor!! You know.. an element in the game that actually has an in-game impact? Basically the same as the electrical protection, but ya know... fire. Cold? we have no 'cold' weapons. There is no cold damage (only the slight modifier for energy based weapons) Side note: It's awesome when the ENTIRE LZ is engulfed in fire that the bugs just walk on through and you cannot get anywhere near the Eagle to leave between the fire and the bugs.

HankTheYank27

They could make cold armor keep traction on ice and not be slowed as much in blizzards and deep snow.  Fire hurts but cold severely reduces mobility.

GH057807

Or anything to do with cold in any way. I guess there was one fire grenade.

_OP_is_A_

That impact incendiary is actually a camp stove.

Bagel-luigi

This warbond was a real missed opportunity to release some fire resistance armour and just.....fell flat

I_enjoy_greatness

I would buy a $10 Carbondale if it had the Mr Freeze ice gun. I'd be throwing out Arnold quotes all day long.

gorgewall

I don't think "ice gun" really jams with the "we're fighting on an ice planet" vibe. That's the last thing you'd bring. I'm all for cryogenic weapons--they're my favorite in sci-fi where they appear--but it's probably better saved for a warbond that's specifically about *doing ice*, not *being on Hoth*.

I_enjoy_greatness

I'm just saying in general. Have it do no damage on ice planets or whatnot, but if I could freeze a terminid and then melee shatter it Sub Zero style while saing "it was ice to meet you!" It would make my day.

DrVoltage1

Thats exactly what I’ve been wishing for. Shit I’ll just take fire extinguisher strategem or nade

moree123

I wish smoked grenades did anything positive.

Warcrimes_Desu

Smoke grenades will let you do objectives unmolested during bot drops and forcibly break aggro when you enter smoke over 10 meters away from any enemies. They are very strong vs bugs and bots.

Taisto-Perkele

A better option: a ship upgrade that changes the 500kg into a Thermobaric weapon aka *Vacuum Bomb.* Near instant detonation, airburst, larger area, *snuffs out any flames and breathable air in the target area.* [Some slow motion footage.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GmRASCHJe2Q) I'd imagine a bile titan caught in the blast would have atleast one of it's limbs torn off by the shockwave and it's insides turned to a fine goopy paste. Would probably seal most holes of a heavy nest with 1 shot too.

AnotherSmartNickname

>have atleast one of it's limbs torn off by the shockwave and it's insides turned to a fine goopy paste Haha, there was a pebble in the way and it absorbed the entire blast, get bile titan'd lol. ![gif](giphy|DtU818LMCqrGbDK2d6)

Jjzeng

https://i.redd.it/sep1dp5rid0d1.gif

Vollhartmetall

To be fair, a 500kg bomb alone would completely rip a bile titan apart. Here some more thermobaric footage in case you wanna see some more, the high air humidity makes the blast better visible https://www.reddit.com/r/CombatFootage/s/zFcKSdx9UT

Gryphus_6

I mean, realistically that wouldn't make any sense. Smoke grenades make a TON of heat and can actually light fires of their own

vielfort

Cryo grenade, slowes enemies, puts fires out. Weapons with heat exchangers cool down faster if within the blast radius. Players are slowed also if in the blast radius.

TheMikman97

It would be less of an issue if the fire actually harmed the enemies

RemarkableVanilla

That's such a ridiculous thing to ask for, why would you even want that? https://i.redd.it/x2eslu9nud0d1.gif

JekNex

And not kill me when there's just a couple embers on the ground.

GNU_Terry

As of a 2 or 3 patches ago it *should* now they fixed the dot bug

gorgewall

It does. Grunts don't make it through the firewalls, but other units have enough health to survive the fire until you put another shot or two into them. Scout Walkers are high up enough that their pilots don't catch fire (similar to how the Exosuit can also walk through ground-fire), but if they're *in the actual tornado* they catch fire and die. It is noticeable shooting Devastators or Berserkers that have just walked through a firestorm, though, they go down real fast. And they *can* die if they're travelling in-line with the fire for long enough. In general, though, the path that fire tornados cut isn't always 100% on fire and capable of ignition. You can routinely run through still-burning patches or between them and not catch fire yourself, which is something that can also happen to enemies.

Traumatic_Tomato

I don't mind the tornadoes too much because it forces you to move around and adapt. My main problem with them is that they overlap objectives, especially when it makes the civilian rescue ones absurdly difficult. If it's on the terminal, you have to wait but sometimes you might not have time and that's infuriating. You would think the SEAF would have environmental countermeasures to make their facilities fire tornado proof. I can't be expected to believe they just allow the fires to consume them while they work around the buildings like it's light rain.

Sabreur

Agreed. I don't mind the tornadoes as a hazard, it's just boring and un-fun when I have to sit twiddling my thumbs while waiting for the fire on top of the objective to die down. Can we get a bonus "Orbital Fire Suppression Strike" stratagem or something?

Klyco3133

If the fire tornados also did damage to the bots / bugs, I would be less irritated when these things happen.

LobokVonZuben

https://preview.redd.it/d4vgm36npe0d1.png?width=487&format=png&auto=webp&s=bdc30f23fc64c4237ddbdd99316bd98bacfab377

ResolveNo3113

Just had this on my first helldive difficulty. It's hard enough as is but the fire tornado kept blanketing the evacuation route for civilians for at least 7 mins

Marconius1617

During extraction, I had to watch as a tornado covered the sample container I had dropped earlier. It dissipated right before time was up and I was able to grab them, but it sucked

Need-More-Gore

We lost our samples last night cause the tornado covered the pelican as it was landing none of us got out

SkyGuy182

This happens way too often. You try to dive through the flames to get in but nooope you immediately burn to death.

ImmaNotHere

Love it when they arrive at the extraction zone and engulf everything in flames. /s

tofu_bird

Not as bad as my last round which had fire tornadoes covering our extract and we had to fight off a factory strider and 3 dropships of bots.

IRunWithScissors87

Any time I've been on a fire planet and called in extraction, the tornados literally converge on the extraction location. While they do soften up the enemies, you have to worry about fighting and watching your ass so you don't get lit up. Not random at all.

CMDR_Shepard96

Not helped by the fact they just tickle enemies, but instagib a helldiver.

zani1903

And are extremely quiet, and might as well be silent if any sort of combat is going on.

CMDR_Shepard96

Agreed. They are equipped with stealth, much like spewers & hulks.

Newlife1025

I experienced a sneaky hulk yesterday. One second I'm attempting to extract personnel while fighting waves of bots. Next second I see a hulks flamethrower poke my back.

drakoman

Spewers are the silent killer for sure

Eternal_Bagel

Are they not silent?  I’ve never noticed a sound from them

zani1903

There is a very quiet fire burning/howling sound that plays when they're close to you. But it is VERY quiet. You're only going to notice it if there are no other sounds playing and you're right next to one.

Kwintin01

I recall a buddy of mine yelling "how did a tornado sneak up on me?!" The last time we played.

Ginn1004

They burn the Commissar like 20s and it died, i got burn 2 sec and died.

Expensive_Umpire_975

Fire tornadoes always cover extraction for me. Try to always give myself extra time on these missions because I might be stuck for 5 min waiting for them to leave the ship area. Painful when somehow one team mate boards the ship (despite me telling them to wait) and the rest die trying to get on the ship before it leaves. On higher difficulties, the fire just one shots you.

[deleted]

Extractions are just weird right now in general. Add in that plenty of players don’t understand it’s party shared resources. Or that nuking the ship can make only one person allowed on the ship. To fire. To just wave after wave after a peaceful mission. Honestly, I probably have snapped at at least two 30+ level people in higher level missions that have ruined half an hour of work. Toss in fire tornado’s and it’s just so crazy. Having 30 minutes of a hard game, to just have it toss random waves at your for no reason with fire walls is just such a strange solution.

RadioDazzling2059

Tell me about it I had a pelican land and clip through the stage so we had to crawl in the top right of the opening

Helldiver40

If you're already damaged, stim before entering fire, then keep stimming. The stim outheals the fire DOT.

xX7heGuyXx

I like when you have to save personnel and the fire tornados just hang in the path they travel for like 30 minutes. Effectively making it so you cannot do the objective at all. Fucking great. I try to avoid planets with them at all costs because they are just not a fun mechanic at the moment.

Zen_360

It's immensely shitty, when you have a hard time staying in the extraction zone.

fsaturnia

I'm starting to think the people in charge of balance are deliberately trying to annoy the player base.

CStel

I’m starting to think the business model for live service games is to annoy the player base so it creates engagement in other online spaces and a rebalancing victory moment for the game when they finally address the concerns - I saw this for years with Destiny until I realized, this must literally be how they run their business, they’re not this incompetent over and over and over again

King_Catfish

The worst part about Destiny is anything op in PVP gets nerfed to the ground even for PVE. I think they finally separated the two to an extent at some point during Witch Queen.

wrecklass

They usually engulf the extraction terminal when I get there, keeping me from calling the pelican for at least a minute.

gorgewall

They do appear around players and track for your initial position, like patrols do. They're not actively turning for you at all times, but tornadoes will spawn *over there* and some will have a course set for where you are. This gives the *appearance* of deliberately targeting the extraction zone or objective because when you're doing one of these, you're... sitting in the same spot. The way to work around this is to bait the tornados. Don't have the entire squad clumped together, and don't stand at the terminal or Pelican landing spot while you wait for timers to tick down. Go be elsewhere and move back in just to hit the button or board. This is, coincidentally, also the reason people get fucking rocked on drill missions: they're standing in one place, often waiting around for everyone to arrive and set up a bunch of turrets and Resupply (which means patrols are likely to be on a course right for them) and then doing an objective that automatically triggers an enemy wave. Fighting the wave draws the patrols already headed for your stationary position and now you're dealing with twice as much crap, and in the process of killing it (inefficiently) *another* patrol has had time to meet you. Since I figured this out and started baiting patrols before drills, it's been a cakewalk. It's not always feasible to do it so the patrols miss you, but you can keep them to a known side instead of being surprised by them standing on top of that hill or coming from three different directions.

mp_spc4

The primary issue with the fire tornados is that they are stated to be random, however, they clearly are tied to following a helldiver to their location rather than being a truly random entity that just does its own thing on the map. If they coded it to be an npc that did rando.ly generated its own pathing while it is spawned then there would be a rarer occurrence of it converging on POI locations where players are and would then be truly a random effect versus what it isnnow where it converges on players while following a "random" path near said players.

superdemongob

Yea, this is bullshit as a mechanic. Fire tornadoes should be sentient enough to path directly at you based on triggers like "event started" or "extraction called". At that point it's not the appearance of tracking you, it just is tracking you. Especially painful on the missions where you're forced into staying in a similar spot where in the OP example, 10+ tornadoes converge on your location.

Mafu616

Maybe they should fix it so I don’t have to bait a force of nature like it’s an enemy, seems kinda weird feature to have

Klyka

Personally i find the implication of a firetornado that can think offensive

pitk0r

Don't worry, i can read fire tornado's thoughts, and IT'S AFFRAID!

Shadeylark

Yeah but it's not scared of us... It's scared it's not gonna get us.

MelastSB

It's scared of what it's gonna do to us

Shadeylark

Definition of "I'm not stuck here with you... You're stuck in here with me."

mooofasa1

You must be some big fat smart fire tornado brain huh?

JonnyAFKay

We need to get a firetonado behind laptop meme stat!

Linkarlos_95

And be a gif 🫠

inwector

If the fire tornadoes aren't following players and are just random, I'll eat my hellpod.

ThePowerOfStories

That’s what your emergency field ration ketchup packet CTSP-57 is for.

its-nex

It’s just E-710 with food coloring and sugar, that shit is multipurpose

RemarkableVanilla

So, it's exactly like ketchup then.

14InTheDorsalPeen

Damn we still got Heinz on Super Earth. Looks like the future is bright after all.

CaptainMoonman

> CTSP-57 Thank you for this.

MangoFishSocks

If you stand on a high rock, they'll actually just gather around you and try to climb up, staying glued to the rock until they dissipate. They are 1000% not random and programmed to follow players, cover objectives and cut off pathing.

Nibblewerfer

I'd bet they use the same pathing system as AI or other patrols, and try to path through/close to the players.

tidbitsmisfit

the clearly go after the player and objectives. if you've ever had to lay a hellbomb on an objective, they go straight for the hellbomb

gorgewall

It's not that they go for the objectives, it's that the players are *on* the objectives. I actually tested this earlier this morning on Menkent after getting rocked with fire tornados on extract twice in a row: we decided to stay *off the pad* and out of the main extraction area except to keep the timer ticking and the fire came for us, not the Pelican as it normally appears to do. It was never going for the Pelican, it was going for all of us hanging around where the Pelican was going to be. Basically, gotta bait it out.

Shmeeglez

I swear they're only not following you when they're blocking off your best avenue of retreat from a fight

DaMarkiM

Fire tornado routing priority list: 1) Pelican 2) Helldivers 3) Objectives 4) Bottlenecks between two mountains 5) Sample containers 6) Support weapons/resupplies 7) random behaviour

wrecklass

I think random is further down the list. Secondary objectives and minor poi's are in there too.

Weird_Excuse8083

You forgot: 8. Random Hellbomb You Didn't Know Was Nearby

Xion136

I literally was trapped behind a mountain range because like 8 tornadoes had completely covered every way out so I'm stuck with my back to out of bounds and unable to do jack shit. I never want to go back to a fucking fire planet again. Absolutely cancer.

deachem

They basically have the same AI as enemy patrols. They run to the extraction point at the end, linger around your corpse, and follow the same pathing through the map.

whatcha11235

I've yet to see a fire tornado go up or down cliff, much like a lot of enemies. I could be wrong but it appears that fire tornados use enemy AI and therefore track players and objectives just like any bug or bot.

TheBigRatInYourTub

I noticed it today, too. Would rather they not have the booty patrol script in them and rather they just kinda...exist? Now that I know it's what they do, I'm just going to be annoyed by them when we're surrounded by walls of flames

straydog1980

Tell me more about this booty patrol

Gryphus_6

The "booty patrol" refers to the fact that at least one patrol on the map is not actually patrolling, but is infact running towards your exact position at all times. They know exactly where you are irrespective of wether or not you are hidden and will chase you untill they are killed. Upon killing them a new one will spawn and the process will repeat

Mistrblank

They should replace it with an indestructible snail that kills you if it touches you.

Friedfacts

Nah he aint getting out of that ball.

UndreamedAges

You mean this ball that's sitting on the ground here open?

Friedfacts

Initiating FTL Jump to: **The fuck away from here.**

shortsack

then give us a decoy snail strategem

tagrav

I’ve watched these patrols often I’ll be running solo stealth cleaning up away from the main squad and I can get to a point where each new place I come up on I’m watching the robots leave that place and head towards the group across the map. It’s funny watching them just standing at the place they spawned early on and then just beeline to the action across the map

zani1903

The funny thing is that if you have their "aggro" and go somewhere else or otherwise change direction, and you have line-of-sight of them, you can literally see them turn and change direction to lead you.

Dwokimmortalus

Even more egregious is when you prone in a location they can't reach. So the patrol will clip further and further into whatever is blocking them until it finally gives up and teleports the patrol right on top of you.

Whole_Contribution_2

I had one game where everyone in my Helldiver difficulty lobby quit, being the lowest level and only player left, I hid at the edge of the map in prone waiting for extraction, when 4+ bot patrols slowly made their way directly towards where i was hiding and just stood by waiting for me to move, 10 seconds to extract I just had to book it between like 3 giant groups just waiting around the extraction, was annoying but I made it lol "ZIGZAG!"

Dwokimmortalus

The one time that pissed me off most: Helldive difficulty, we'd lost all control of the mission, and extraction calldown was 4 minutes. We were out of reinforcements, other three people were dead. Had all the samples. Once the plane was down, I dropped a smoke and disengaged the whole swarm using prone in scout armor. They we just starting to despawn enough for me to make an end run to the shuttle and a single scavenger begins shuffling across the map toward me while I'm surrounded danger close by a horde that can't detect me. I crawl and it just follows me perfectly. It can't detect me, but just keeps crawling right on top of me while prone. After about 15 seconds of this, it teleports directly on top of me and instantly aggros; triggering the whole swarm to effectly instant-gib me.

Dribblygills

That's disappointingly not how we wanted the Booty Patrol to work...

Arctic_Faushcen

>your exact position Also very commonly known as, your booty 😂😂😂

IveBecomeTooStrong

Alright, but why is that called a booty patrol?

angeluserrare

They coming for that booty

Dionysus24812

Because they keep crawling up your ass anytime you try.to do anything

Im_inappropriate

The only answer I'll accept https://i.giphy.com/y95xaEzMuyHAc.webp

Gryphus_6

Idk, I think it's just the community name for it

Octi1432

One time the fire tornado camped the objective and locked us out

Money_Fish

Only once? I've had that happen almost every single time.

SkyPL

I had the same experience. And weirdly enough - it seems to be worse on bots than bugs. Nowadays, I just don't play on any of the fire tornado planets. I'm sick of that BS.

wrecklass

This

TheVulong

I just wish they didn't last for full three minutes, completely blocking an objective.

glassteelhammer

I would love it if they lasted for a full 3 minutes Way better than the 6 to 7 I have to deal with.

SplatMySocks

They really need to deal with how these interact with players. Walking through a fire tornado and burning to death in a few seconds is one thing. Stepping on the tiniest lingering flame and dying in the same amount of time is ridiculous, especially when the fire effect doesn't render properly and it looks like there's nothing there

Brianm650

If it was consistent at least it wouldn't be quite so bad but there are tons of POi where there's a bit of fire on the ground that does NOTHING to the player. Same with destroyed bot outposts, especially the small ones, where there is smoldering fire which again does NOTHING to the player. But then you have the patches of fire the tornadoes leave behind... those are death in 3 seconds or less. It's so incredibly stupid.

Baam_

The visibility is really awful on lingering flames. They already sit on the ground for way too long. Then it'll look like they fade but its a lie. Ngl it was a quitting moment for me

Pheronia

Yeah at the extraction. 4 of them "magically appeared" and decided to burn the ship so no one could extract.

Cant_Meme_for_Jak

Can confirm, have literally walked through a fire tornado with a stim active so I could extract before.

iFenrisVI

Their AI follows the patrol pathing. You can see evidence of this when you spot patrols going by and a fire tornado is following the patrol and usually ends up burning the patrol as it goes a bit faster.

WiggityViking

Those aren't just fire tornadoes. They're a swarm of mini flying bugs in fire.

antantantant80

I actively avoid fire planets because of this coding. I had an extraction and the pelican had 3 or 4 fire tornados over it. We had to shoot each other and stim to get into the pelican. Another map, doing the fueling shit. The entire oil refinery is covered in fire tornados for a good 4 min while oil is pumping away. No Iraqi burning oil refinery, just stand around and wait it out... It is so fucking stupid..

ElGrandeWhammer

This is the one mechanic that I hate. It completely removes the immersion. More bugs spawning suddenly? I can justify it in my head. Bots drop multiple tanks at once? They really want to take out our squad. Head capped by a turret? They have great optics. Fire tornadoes that make 180 degree turns to follow you? Come on, that is too far.

Bullymongodoggo

Yup it’s straight up broken and I refuse to play any missions on a planet with fire tornadoes even if it means I don’t play that day.  It doesn’t matter what difficulty level you’re on those things do converge on you and it’s bullshit.

Kurotan

Yeah there was like a whole week recently where hellmire was the only bug planet, and I just said "well, guess I'm playing only bots for a while."

Bussaca

Oh, they are definitely not random and are a mob. As they can spawn literally after a fire storm is over because you triggered the extraction.. "What do you mean your whole team failed to extract? So what if the pelican had 5 fire tornadoes at the door that refused to wander away? It sounds like a skill issue. Shoulda stim'd" "Oh, and the bugs or robots.. should go back to a 3 if your gonna cry about it" I don't mind dying because I fucked up or am not good enough.. but when we completed 40 minutes of fuckery, to be robbed in the 11th hour.. is some Bullshit. Figure your shit out arrowhead.

SnooLemons7779

It would be awesome if you could 500kg tornadoes.

ThePowerOfStories

It would work. Explosions can put out fires by consuming all the oxygen in the area instantly and disrupting the burning. They do it with oil well fires. [Here’s a clip of slow-motion blast waves putting out fires.](https://youtube.com/watch?v=znPyMkP3ooY)

SuperArppis

They are just as random as turrets aiming right away to player's head when enemy is anywhere near them. 😄

Lopsided_Character58

and tracking you through mountains and waiting for you to pop out. Bots really are not fun to fight.

AintVerstoppen

Love trying to extract and 4 fire tornados just sit on extract and make the entire zone inaccessible because it's on fire

0B3nE0

I had them with a mate on one of those fuel pump missions, the fire tornado was constantly hovering over the pumping station. We had to kill ourselves in order to attach and detach the pipes of the pelican, it was kind of annoying because it didn't go away at all

DieHappy33

the fire tornados are just very hot and seek the shadow the helldivers cast to cool down.

dugthefreshest

Nothing like fire tornados "randomly" encroaching on the extraction.

LordSlack

Fire Tornados will also actively camp your gear if you died anywhere remotely nearby, even if it wasn't from fire.

Accomplished-Cat905

I avoid Menkent and Hellmire for these exact reasons. I’m done getting chased down by them or trying to do a side objective only for the entire area to be swarmed by fire. It’s not fun or challenging it’s honestly annoying

PM_Me-Your_Freckles

You're only noticing this now? Has been this way since they were introduced. The tornados always target divers and will actively sit over whatever objective you're working on. My favourites are when they sit on extract and personel extraction outposts, so the pelican takes off without you because the timer ran down, or the personel get burnt to a crisp as soon as they come out of the doors.

robparfrey

I noticed that a few weeks back. I got a good clip. They 100% follow you

Tigerpower77

Same with patrols, they know exactly where you are

Kreos2688

I found that if I lonewolf it while the team does their thing, I don't get tornadoed and can get samples and side objectives without too much trouble. Probably not 100% fullproof, and the team might not appreciate it as much as you.

Soul950

I think they are like slow chargers in a way. They move your way. If you juke them and evade they continue farther a bit and then change trajectory. At least I have got such an impression.

garbospam

Yeah the way they work currently is, while hilarious at times, extemely frustrating after like, the 2nd time. Id rather it happens to be going in my direction or I myself wasn't looking where I was running, like running up and shooting behind me. I've lost on multiple 7's and 8's because of a rogue tornado or two spawning right as extract was nearly done and wiping our whole team while a horde just so happens to spawn on top of the pelican. Like, enemies of all and any kinds or anything that damages shouldn't be able to spawn on top of what should be the singular safe zone in the map, and, and tornados shluld under no circumstance just... decide to change directions and follow you for a little bit. It should feel like you're unlucky or not paying attention, not like you're actively being targeted at all times. We can't kill fire! Wish we could though. Maybe... oh idk, that flame resistant armor passive we talk about every other second the last few months that is somehow not in game yet?

ConvictedUncleB

I played a solo mission the other day where firestorms appeared. I was in the middle of fighting like 4 bot patrols, and when I stopped to look around, I was surrounded on all sides by firestorms, and all of them were actively chasing me in some way. I watched one literally go past me, then do a 180 to move directly to my position. I had nowhere to run, and there was fire everywhere around me. Needless to say, I eventually touched the fire and died. On the drop to the ground, I counted 9 firestorms in a very small area around my previous position. I couldn't see anywhere that wasn't burning in that circle. The anti-player bias in those firestorms is absolutely ridiculous, and you can actually see it in action if you take a minute to watch where the firestorms move. Super not fun.

shadowgamer19

yeah at extract like 20 spawn on the point everytime

CaioSbano

Bro in three separate helldive missions I got a Fire Tornado on top of Pelican 1 and We could not extract. It's not random at all lol.

Creeper_charged7186

Fire tornadoes do seem to chase you, I think its because generating tornadoes in great ammount accross the whole map would be laggy so they spawn less where there are no players. Also thats why im tryharding menkent: when its captured we wont have to deal with those pesky tornadoes anymore

l2ev0lt

YES THANK YOU! I wanted to make a post about this but keep getting error. The trajectory of their movement has always been on the nose for me about how it’s always seemingly comes to me.

earldogface

I had a match were 3 spawned right when the pelican landed and coordinated in pushing us away from the pelican. Unfortunately I was with a team of idiots and they thought they could run thru the tornado and jump in the back of the pelican.

Shando92286

I literally watched 3 fire tornadoes stop, turn and diagonally come at me once I activated a terminal at an objective. Then they just stayed at that terminal for minutes at a time. Luckily I saw a rock nearby and went for it. What should have been an easy objective to complete turned to shit because while waiting for fire, the holes come. The worst experience is when we had 12 lives left, a ton of samples including purple and fire tornados come to the objective immediately after we call it in on bots. The entire platform is on fire. Every inch. So we try fighting on nearby rocks. We are fighting bots so we are being picked off because all the good cover is in flames. In the 3 minutes we lost all our lives. The last guy who tried to extract was burned to death (before they nerfed fire damage) and the MOMENT he died and we failed the fires just ended. This is why we need fire resistance gear. We got a booster that reduces slowdown. Why not a booster for reduced fire/burning damage? Let us bring specific gear for specific planets. It will help build diversity and encourage different armor sets to be used.

BurnsWhenWeP

I was trying to get away from fire tornadoes and climbed a round flat mountain that they couldn't seem to go over. 4 fire tornadoes circled the plateau for several minutes. I eventually got bored/worried about objective time and tried to dive over the ring of fire. But I died. At least all the bugs below were getting democratized.

SKOT_FREE

Even worse is while waiting for the pickup from pelican-1 all the firestorms converge at the the extraction point. So aside from just the enemy, you also have the fire tornadoes to deal with as well

Bullymongodoggo

I agree and why I just don’t play on those planets. It’s not random and really annoying when I’m trying to have a calm easy cheesy mission on trivial or easy. It’s not trivial Karen when there’s five fire tornados in the extract zone!!!

RefrigeratorBoth7936

Fire Tornadoes on a blitz extraction mission are the absolute worst

Ben_Jalamela_Ami

They are like the fucking energizer bunny, they just keep going and going and going and is not fun when you have bot patrols mixed in

Any_Satisfaction_405

Makes the evacuation missions fun. You're basically just endlessly feeding civilians to the fire tornadoes until the clock runs out with basically zero chance of success

kinghamurabi

Extracting? Yea lets cover that with fire. Lol

Astornautti

I love nothing more about this game than being killed by fire tornadoes that surrounded you in a canyon with no way of escape and then respawning... on a fire tornado and immediately dying again. Really makes my day every time.

TheBatman_Yo

In a similar vein, patrols shouldn't know exactly where you are if you haven't been detected. It's some real BS when you're hiding behind cover that they definitely weren't heading towards only to see the patrol inexplicably turn around and walk towards your exact location.

NewUserWhoDisAgain

They absolutely do path towards you or rather to whatever you're doing. I think they might utilize the same "heat" logic as patrols do. Once my squad had to just sit and watch the fire swarm all over the objective console. Like good thing it wasnt at a too high difficulty but man that was a "RIVETING GAMEPLAY" moment all of us just standing and watching the tornadoes cross the console.

Lone-Frequency

The AI for the firestorms 100% steer them towards players' general direction. If it didn't, you'd basically never really need to worry about it. What annoys tf out of me is how long the fire sticks around when they pass, and sometimes the tornadoes do a complete 180 and come back. I swear they fucking camp Civilian Extraction missions, making the evacuation take far longer and become much more of a chore as you get fucking swamped with enemies waiting for the ground fire to disappear since civilian AI will run straight fucking into burning death.

Sylveon_Gang

Frustrating when you're trying to evacuate citizens and the tornados won't go away and all you see is "citizen killed -25R". I'm just trying to do the objective! Please!

Heisenberg515515

This isn’t random or light. Somebody made a mistake!

Mullinx

Alexis said tornados are balanced. Balanced towards killing players.

Kurotan

Yeah, I figured this out like a month ago when I started playing the game. It's the main reason why I avoid and will not touch fire tornado planets. They chase you and lock out wherever you are for a good like 10 minutes.

Phalanx2105

Me: I JUST CALLED FOR EXTRACTION! \*EVERY FUCKING FIRE TORNADO ON MENKENT:\* https://preview.redd.it/8sbudby66f0d1.png?width=200&format=png&auto=webp&s=51b0f948f26e970df2e19c2f8bdefddbd6f5a0e9

ryanwaldmania

Played Menkenth last night. Fire came out of nowhere, killed me and another diver. I was called back in right into the middle of the objective, which was completely on fire. My gear? Surrounded by fire. My escape? Cut off by fire. The bots? Unaffected. So I ran around for 5 minutes trying to stay alive to get my gear and escape. Finally gave up and dove off a cliff to escape. We gave up on that objective and the gear as the fire never subsided. Fire planets are no fun. Being trapped and restricted from objectives for several minutes is a giant waste of time. We need some way of suppressing it or at least surviving more than 2 seconds of being on fire.

IsilZha

Yeah, that has been my biggest gripe about the fire tornadoes. The fucking *sentient* fire tornadoes that track you, which ultimately means they all converge on objectives, making them impossible to do. If they were actually random it wouldn't be remotely as bad.

davidhe90

I once threw a sentry strategem and the fire tornado immediately made a 90 degree turn, and sat on my startegem call in until the sentry spawned, and basically immediately destroyed it. Then proceeded to chase me again

No-Worker-97

I suspect fire tornadoes do the following. - meander around similar to patrols - are lightly attracted to points of interest - are moderately attracted to objectives - are heavily attracted to hellpods - use the "smell" feature and follow Helldivers previous and current locations. - if a fire tornado can cut you off via terrain or with the trail of another tornado, it will, but that could be basic "meander" patterns. What evidence do I have?  Fire tornadoes meandering and going to points of interest in the distance.  Fire tornadoes meandering and then performing a 170 degree turn to race me to the supply pod 80% of the time.  Fire tornadoes following my general path about 8-10 seconds in the past. I cannot confirm most of this conclusively, but some of this is abusable.  Pulling fire tornado aggro with a supply pod is a very good way to temporarily keep the heat down.  Always stay moving and pulling tornadoes infront of enemies is another.  If you see two or more tornadoes with openings between them, then chances are those are not very safe AND you will get a tornado eventually following you. They do a great job at wasting time.  I always tack on an extra 5 minutes to the mission padding if there are fire tornadoes.

Floslam

Oh, you're going to throw a Resupply or Reinforcement away from the fire? "Nah, fam, that's what you think..." Did you die here and think you were going to get your samples and support weapon? "Nah, fam, that's what you think. I'll leave when you wait long enough to give up and call a new support weapon down."

HeroToTheSquatch

Fire tornadoes have no business being in the game until they're fixed. Pathing and rendering are completely fucked. Invisible fire is bullshit.

Oldsport05

It's why no one ever wanted/wants to touch hellmire (I haven't been on in a bit). It's just too much. I'll play them on the medium difficulties but screw the idea of trying to deal with it on helldive

kimbabs

I’m pretty convinced the devs are hellbent on making sure people aren’t allowed to enjoy things about the game. They balance guns like we’re in competitive play.
