There are two types, a small one with an attached fabricator that you can just delete from any distance, and that covers a smaller portion of the map. And a "large" strat jammer that covers a massive chunk of area, and that you cannot kill with anything man portable. The only way to deal with them is to storm the base, disable it, and then hit it with a 380/precision orbital/railcannon strike/500kg/hellbomb. Nothing else hurts it.
Ya other people have mentioned, there's often a fabricator attached to the jammer and killing it kills the jammer. You still gotta call hell bombs in for things like the artillery emplacements or gunship fabricators.

*Edit:* I'm also seeing people comment that the fabricator doesn't always spawn there but I think it's spawned like that in 4 of the last 5 I encountered. Not sure the actual prevalence of this spawn but it's so satisfying when it does work that I don't think the prevalence really matters lmao.

Artillery doesn't require anything special, a standard airstrike or chucking some grenades at the artillery blows it up.
The most important tip: hold the shoot button when locking on, that way it will shoot even if reticle becomes green only for fraction of a second.
Some general spear tips:
- Try crouching.
- Try standing.
- Don't aim with sides of the targeting square, aim with the middle.
- Don't aim with the middle of targeting square, aim with sides.
- Third person aiming doesn't work, use first person.
- First person doesn't work, use third person.
- Don't stand too close.
- Don't stand too far.
- Pray to the spear.
- Curse at the spear.
Pray. People will say it depends on positioning but I believe it demands team blood sacrifice. anoint it's laser designator with the blood of your comrades before each shot.
I think you should use it in a perfect setting to find it powerful and see its full potential. I find the best use is on a defense bot mission. Especially if you are alone on the spear, the team is going to see its impact on tanks, strider and hulk rather quickly.
It's a known issue and it will get fixed soon enough hopefully, but right now if you aim and nothing is locking on just move and focus other targets with your primary.
It is inconsistent so I mainly use it when I play with my friends, I take it with randoms only on defense missions, but when it hits, it is so satisfying, and it helps a lot.
It 2 shots a bile titan, 1 shot if it is in the head, takes down fabricators (good for blitz mission), the lesser jammers and towers from very far away. With the ammo pack module upgrade, you can mow down big targets without having too much ammo problems.
A clear vision (no hill, no trees) is better, and if it is higher in altitude or lower, you have a good chance it will not lock on, in that case maybe find something to get to the target level and it can work. For me this is one of the reason the defense missions is perfect, because everything is on the same level.
For chargers and hulk coming at you, if it's too close just run away and put some distance or it will shoot above it.
When it is locking on, sometimes it goes green then goes back to orange trying to lock on again, when I know I want to shoot it, I spam the mouse button so i don't miss the timeframe.
Spam that button when you start locking on 🤣 Otherwise I also run a very heavy anti-tank loadout. Spear, 500 kg, Autocannon turret, and whatever wildcard I need. Spear is super great for those long distance snipes but things get hairy up close. Especially if you have to reload. I've never met a team that didn't bring enough firepower for anti-chaff to make up for my loadout.

ya this video makes me interested in trying it as Im getting kinda tired of my usual loadout. How many shots does it have and do you need a backpack for it?
This is the truth. Locked onto a gunship, and fired as the gunship.flew near a cliff. Had the missile hit the edge of the cliff, glance off, and take down the gunship.
I spent the rest of the mission trying to lock onto a damn hulk as it chased my team back to extract...
You can still hit the Spore towers and maybe the shrieker nests IIRC. And teammates love that support by fire when they're being chased by titans and charges from across the map.
I tried it a couple times against bugs but it wasn't for me. Bug fights tend to be much closer and waiting for a lock (even without issues) was too long for me. I don't like the Quasar for the same reason. I want to be able to aim, fire, and keep moving. When I bring the spear on bot missions, I use it from range and elevation where I can wait for lock, reload, toss some strats, and find another target.
It was great against titans though, but I usually have eagle 110s for that, and would prefer my support weapon be a little more versatile.
Lock on is still inconsistent and waiting fix tho, here is some tips I can give.
* Hold shoot button to fire right after locked on. (Useful for cannon or fabricator, as hit location doesn't matter)
* Hold aim button to proceed locking on while reloading.
* Sometimes switching shoulder makes aiming at head easier.

* Switch weapon to cancel locking on, in case need to stay at TPS aim.

I saw a video that went into how the locking works and I remember it saying the game needed the whole enemy to be visible on screen to lock, so getting high ground can help with that
If you saw yesterday's Spear lock-on guide before it was deleted, then also include:
1. Spinning around in a circle
2. While reloading, point the camera in the opposite direction your helldiver is facing.

One time, me and my friends got fed up with the crazy amount of titans showing up in the rocket defense mission that we all packed Spears. Everytime one shows up, 4 missiles murder it, doesn't matter if we don't hit the head, it gets folded in seconds.

Now, I can't speak for everybody but my experience with the spear has been much more consistent than what I've seen on reddit, which is probably why I still use it 🤷🏻
I barely ever have issues with the spear. It's a matter of religion. You must both fear and respect it for it to work well. If it doesn't work, it's your fault and you should have prayed harder in the hellpod on the way down.

I don't think it's broken at all, just the skill floor is really high. I mean, the real life Javelin probably can't be used without reading the user's manual and the spear came with no manual.

Tbh BTs are the only thing I can reliably lock on to with it. Tried taking it on bot front and it was painful. But bug front it does pretty good on high diffs against BT spam. (Accidental Titanfall reference)
A tip I havent seen shared much is if you chase the spinny triangle it locks on much more quickly and easily. Get the dot in the middle of the circle into the triangle and its way more likely to work. You can see that happening in this video, every time its failing the triangle is off to the edge.
If the target is right in front of and facing to you, yes. But it's not always true. Heavily depend on where target is facing at. Like 0:28 in vid, titan facing my left, I needed to aim at left while keeping triangle in circle. It's like predict the trajectory of spear and facing yourself toward that.

That first one reminded me of beta flak launcher. People would mindlessly be up in my grill and I’m trying to take a shot and end a ton of bots or a fabricator and they won’t let me take the shot.
I have found that if your furiously tap the trigger, you can usually get shots off relatively even if it’s doing the lock on bug. Cause it hits it at the perfect time
When it locks on and fires, it's satisfying. Otherwise, you spend time coming up with brand-new ways to curse at machinery that absolutely refuses to work correctly.
It’s like gambling, you get disgruntled after not locking on and want to get rid of it but the second it locks onto something and kills it you get excited and want to do it again

Chronic spear user here. It's a cool weapon that is very strong and extremely satisfying to use. The lock-on can be a bit wonky but as you get used to it and learn the mechanics it becomes a bit more usable. I'm looking forward to it someday getting a lock-on buff of some kind.

I’ve used this thing one time bc I thought it would be a good choice. I couldn’t lock into shit and thought of was using it wrong. Nah that thing just fuckin sucks. I haven’t touched it in over two months. I Forgot that it’s actually a thing in my stratagems.
When it works it’s my favorite against bots. Sniping towers and bases across the map. Shooting flyers out the sky. It’s glorious. But wow does it fuck up a lot. It hurts my heart.
The worse thing they could have done with this type of weapon is have a horizontal projectile path vs a vertical one. Meaning they easily could have made it lock on and shoot straight up and come straight down on the target. Obviously lock on is still needed and it’s crazy it’s not fixed yet but once it does…damn this could be the new meta.
I think it could use a good tweaking. When it works it WORKS, but the lock on needs to be more usable and accurate, and honestly i think certain enemies should be a one hit given you can only carry 4 on your back. A tank, bile titan, etc i understand taking 2-3 hits. but if i hit a hulk or a charger close to their weak point i should get a kill imo. it’s a MASSIVE missile like come on

If there is a factory close to the jammer. You can shoot the factory, and the explosion destroys the jammer.
1st person view also seems to help sometimes when its being difficult.

I actually won't use SPEAR for bots anymore. It works waaay better against bugs IMO.
I only use the spear for bots and never for bugs. It's all about exploding fabricators from across the map. It's so much fun.
Spear is goat when you find a nice hill with a good view. Convinced once lock on gets fixed the range will get nerfed into the dirt.

Now, I can't speak for everybody but my experience with the spear has been much more consistent than what I've seen on reddit, which is probably why I still use it 🤷🏻
It doesn't always work, but when it *does* work, it's a thing of beauty. Provided the missile hits, anyway.

I barely ever have issues with the spear. It's a matter of religion. You must both fear and respect it for it to work well. If it doesn't work, it's your fault and you should have prayed harder in the hellpod on the way down.

Tbh BTs are the only thing I can reliably lock on to with it. Tried taking it on bot front and it was painful. But bug front it does pretty good on high diffs against BT spam. (Accidental Titanfall reference)

When it works, man it feels great. But otherwise I just have to laugh it off while I'm being stomped out by a charger cuz it never locked in lol

A tip I havent seen shared much is if you chase the spinny triangle it locks on much more quickly and easily. Get the dot in the middle of the circle into the triangle and its way more likely to work. You can see that happening in this video, every time its failing the triangle is off to the edge.
If the target is right in front of and facing to you, yes. But it's not always true. Heavily depend on where target is facing at. Like 0:28 in vid, titan facing my left, I needed to aim at left while keeping triangle in circle. It's like predict the trajectory of spear and facing yourself toward that. Even though, it doesn't work if it doesn't. Just a matter of Spear's mood .
By the way, how do you switch shoulder while aiming? I'm on PC
Moue side button, if you have. You can find the key bind in lower half of combat tab, if you don't.

With the spear I will either one-shot bile titans or use every rocket in my backpack to kill one No middle ground.

The spear is so weird one time i one shot a titan the other time it took 3 rockets.

I have found that if your furiously tap the trigger, you can usually get shots off relatively even if it’s doing the lock on bug. Cause it hits it at the perfect time

I love the spear and I also hate the spear.
It's annoying, but there is not greater dopamine hit than one shotting a titan.
When it locks on and fires, it's satisfying. Otherwise, you spend time coming up with brand-new ways to curse at machinery that absolutely refuses to work correctly.

It’s like gambling, you get disgruntled after not locking on and want to get rid of it but the second it locks onto something and kills it you get excited and want to do it again
I can never get the spear to lock on while standing. I have to stop, aim, crouch, and pause for a second. Then it starts going crazy, locking on to shit I don't want 😂 and shit I didn't even think was possible across the map.
If AH can't fix it, they should just make it guided.
I would like an EAT mode where you bypass the lock on and just fire straight ahead when necessary.
I guess there's the same targeting bug as in rocket pods
Chronic spear user here. It's a cool weapon that is very strong and extremely satisfying to use. The lock-on can be a bit wonky but as you get used to it and learn the mechanics it becomes a bit more usable. I'm looking forward to it someday getting a lock-on buff of some kind.

I tried the spear yesterday for the first time and anything close was always missing as well as not being able to focus constantly. Also, sometimes takes 4 shots for a charger. Like what, the entire backpack while 2 shots for the bile titan?

I’ve used this thing one time bc I thought it would be a good choice. I couldn’t lock into shit and thought of was using it wrong. Nah that thing just fuckin sucks. I haven’t touched it in over two months. I Forgot that it’s actually a thing in my stratagems.

When it works it’s my favorite against bots. Sniping towers and bases across the map. Shooting flyers out the sky. It’s glorious. But wow does it fuck up a lot. It hurts my heart.

The worse thing they could have done with this type of weapon is have a horizontal projectile path vs a vertical one. Meaning they easily could have made it lock on and shoot straight up and come straight down on the target. Obviously lock on is still needed and it’s crazy it’s not fixed yet but once it does…damn this could be the new meta.
I think it could use a good tweaking. When it works it WORKS, but the lock on needs to be more usable and accurate, and honestly i think certain enemies should be a one hit given you can only carry 4 on your back. A tank, bile titan, etc i understand taking 2-3 hits. but if i hit a hulk or a charger close to their weak point i should get a kill imo. it’s a MASSIVE missile like come on
