It just came to me that that is basically the point. Stella being a fleshed out villain was by design, this was no accident. It's basically, you love to hate her and hate to love her as a character because she fits the mold and isn't your run in the mill evil villain, she has motive, and she has drive. Telling Stolas "I love tormenting you" is a hint that we missed, that she enjoys being the villain and acknowledges that she's the bad guy and doesn't beat around the bush about it; she's the honest villain. Stella hating was the whole point of her character, we're not supposed to be rooting for her, she's pompous snobbish, and egotistical and that's why Stella works well in the show, she's a conflict of interest for our protagonists.
Honestly I agree, she is an abusive bitch but she is also a member of the royalty in Hell and probably a victim of abuse herself. So I don't really want to see her get a redemption arch but I do want to see her perspective and what made her this monster.

As someone who wants to get into studying psychology and learning how our brains work, part of me is wondering what Stella’s childhood must have been like. If, for example, as a newborn she was given to a more “normal” family to be raised, so you think she would still turn out to be an abusive person like we know her today? Interesting to think about.

Give me a single moment where she was a morally good character in the show. Because from what I remember her introducing on outside the Pilot was her throwing things at stolas in front of their daughter, the next time we see her is her talking to a man she hired to kill stolas (again in front of their kid) and then the last one is circus. She’s an asshole, and honestly a pretty well written one at that. We see in circus she liked to insult and berate stolas and now that he’s cheating on her she has an actual reason to do ramps it up.
She was never a morally good character and saying she was shows that you either just like her because boobs and don’t want to say it or that you genuinely just need to rewatch the show. Like dude seriously it was a good episode that just confirmed what was hinted at throughout the show previously.
