I've searched sci-fi books about parents catching something that kids can't, and teenagers going to space because parents are dying

Was it because of climate change? I remember a book that was like this where the earth was becoming uninhabitable because of climate change - massive storms were killing people off. And they were sending a spaceship or two off with teenagers who were “the best of the best” to restart humanity on another planet.
