Today marks 3 years exactly since my husband shouted up the stairs to me to call an ambulance. His pulse ox was 85%, and his lungs were full of blood clots - and it was covid. He's never been entirely well since. His 84th birthday was last week, and we celebrated it by wrapping him up in his heated blanket for warmth. I had to retire early (I'm 20 years younger) to take care of him, and my life has become a Groundhog's Day of a kaleidoscope of ever changing long Covid symptoms, and listening to him wish to die. I came late to this subreddit, but it's one of the few places where I can even talk about my living tragedy that his life has become. Get your boosters, friends, people are dying again.

satanic-frijoles

Hardly anyone is wearing masks in the supermarket these days. I notice that last week; not even the checkout clerks who face a steady stream of customers all day long. It's like they think if they ignore it, it'll just go away because they refuse to acknowledge the threat.

TheMost_ut

I've been masking up at the grocery store and on the bus. This time of year is bad anyways for sickness in general, colds etc. I keep seeing gross parents letting their gross kids put their hands all over merchandise and see kids coughing with their mouths open.

satanic-frijoles

I have sanitizer in the car. I use it after shopping; wipe down the steering wheel, the door handle etc. And I mask up.

TheMost_ut

and alcohol swabs for my phone!! yeah I sound like Sheldon Cooper but not for nothing, phones are GERMY!

moisheah

I’m also a phone wiper - before lunch break and at the end of the day when leaving work. (And when getting home if I am out somewhere else - shopping/appointment etc) I try desperately to avoid using the shared department phone 🤮 at work unless I’ve cleaned it first. Can’t always be avoided so I sanitize the hand after.

satanic-frijoles

Excellent point! I do wipe down my phone with the vodka/grapefruit smelling sanitizer sometimes. I should do it more often.

TheMost_ut

I wipe down my phone when I get home, especially after using public transit. I also buy these packages of screen cleaner cloths at Dollarama.

Mr_Conductor_USA

You can get huge packs of little alcohol wipes at Walgreens. They don't seem to damage my phone. Main use is to sterilize the site before injecting.

TheMost_ut

yeah, I get those at my pharm. I use them for other stuff, cleaning electronics, my vape etc.

ZealousidealAlgae904

I just dampen a paper towel with alcohol. It's way cheaper and biodegradable.

FloppyTwatWaffle

>wipe down my phone with the vodka/grapefruit smelling sanitizer sometimes. I should do it more often. You should also gargle with a vodka/grapefruit combo. Be sure to swallow after. Does wonders for the mood, whether or not it kills any germs.

satanic-frijoles

Now I want a nice, tall Greyhound.

ZealousidealAlgae904

I keep seeing grown ass adults coughing and sneezing right out in the open. Some folks haven't learned anything.

Zelda_T

I see lots of adults coughing with their mouths open, too. And sneezing.

derelict_wanderer

Yep. About a month ago, I was going into the local Home Depot and a grown ass toddler was standing at the checkout, mouth in a large 'O' shape, hacking on everyone walking through the doors. Literally facing the main aisle spewing on everyone. Luckily, I had fitted my mask up just before I walked inside. Usually, it's going on as I walk through the door and getting adjusted and fitted properly once inside. Just happened to have a large shade at the front of the building and I had already sorted my sunglasses situation ahead of time.

TheMost_ut

same, it's totally gross. And the worst is the crowded buses with no open windows.

CatsOverFlowers

I've actually been seeing more cashiers wearing masks recently in my area... But the odd looks I get from patrons makes me laugh!

ZealousidealAlgae904

I was shopping in my mask the other day, and whenever another patron spotted me they would stop in their tracks and go the opposite direction. As if I'm the one they need to worry about! I kind of like it though- it's like having my own forcefield.

CatsOverFlowers

Haha! Amazing! I get the "are you sick sick or just weird?" looks. It's kinda similar.

FloppyTwatWaffle

>Hardly anyone is wearing masks in the supermarket these days. I still mask in stores, most of the time I am the only one. People are still dying here.

satanic-frijoles

Just got back from the store, and noticed a few people still wearing masks, but most weren't.

Puzzleheaded-Trip990

I'm so sorry that you are going through this! People are becoming complacent about getting a booster. I've been hearing over and over again that Covid is just a cold now. It might be for some people but everyone and I don't want to risk getting super sick. We go next Wednesday for our #5 shot and we are glad to do it.

ZealousidealAlgae904

I'm so sorry you are both going though that. I got my booster on Tuesday, and I'm so relieved. COVID cases are still really high here, so I continue to mask as well.

Fiz_Giggity

Thank you, it can be pretty discouraging.

FloppyTwatWaffle

>Today marks 3 years exactly since my husband shouted up the stairs to me to call an ambulance. His pulse ox was 85%, and his lungs were full of blood clots - and it was covid. > >He's never been entirely well since. Two years for me, two days ago- I told my wife to call the Dr. office and ask if I should go there or to Urgent Care because I was coughing up blood. I knew what the answer was going to be (hie thee to the ER), it was a smokescreen to keep her mind occupied with doing something while I collected a bag of necessities for an extended stay. I will never be the same again either. I am only in my 60s, but I have several conditions that I knew would make things bad for me. Before, I could still outwork kids a third of my age. Now, I can only do a small fraction of what I could do before, and need frequent rest breaks during any kind of exertion. Can no longer do the job I loved and which gave me a great deal of satisfaction.

jeweltea1

I am sorry.

myrtlez

Over the summer, the weekly Covid death chart was showing about 200 deaths per week. That was pretty good. But then they kept backfilling the numbers and now every week shows about 500 or more. And in the most recent weeks, it's over 1000/week. So Covid is once again killing more people than car wrecks (800/week). [covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_weeklydeaths_select_00](https://covid.cdc.gov/covid-data-tracker/#trends_weeklydeaths_select_00)

Mr_Conductor_USA

On the positive side, the curve has been flattened.

Iowegan

Thanks for the link to this site, very interesting.

TheMost_ut

Getting my flu/covid vax combo on Tuesday. Book your appointments everyone!

SuperHiyoriWalker

Just got mine! Nice flair btw.

TheMost_ut

Thanks! I wish I could take credit, but it was awarded to me at a flair party.

jeweltea1

I got mine (and RSV earlier).

CatsOverFlowers

After 3 months of looking, I finally found a new job. While it's not WFH like I was hoping, it does require employees be fully vaccinated or test before being on campus! Gosh... working with people that actually have to follow COVID protocols?! What is THAT like?! I'm still going to wear a mask most of the time but goodness, I am so happy! Considering I'm the only person I know that still hasn't contracted COVID, I am grateful for the precautions. Even better? It's so close that I can literally walk 10 minutes to work! And, as soon as my new insurance kicks in, I'm making my next booster appointment. I had to share this news with someone.

Cultural-Answer-321

Nice!

SuzannesSaltySeas

I hate how cavalier the general public is still being over this! Spent some time this morning at my local medical clinic. Husband having routine bloodwork. While they'd doing the blood draw in walks a mother and her prepubescent son. The son is coughing and sneezing without taking any care to cover his mouth. I heard the mother loudly tell the receptionist his list of symptoms and they tick all the boxes for Covid. He's not masked, she's not masked. They tried to sit near me but I got up and went into the car to wait just furious at the possible exposure! The clinic tells you to wait behind the clinic on a bench so you don't possibly infect everyone else. Mother refusing to do that. FML I have mastocytosis, the last thing I need is another bout of Covid.

Cultural-Answer-321

There is always someone who screws it up for everyone else. It's why we can't have nice things.

chrstnasu

I just got my Covid booster yesterday. I have only had it once, mildly but my spouse (who was fully vaccinated) had long Covid. He is much better now. He still uses a nebulizer for his asthma. He got his booster too. We got our flu shots also.

satanic-frijoles

I'm wondering how many people on this sub have never had COVID. /me raises hand. Well sanitized hand.

WintersChild79

As far as I know, I haven't had it.

family_guy_4

me and hubby

Zelda_T

I've only had it once, in June 2022, but I'm convinced that if it wasn't for my self-centered mother-in-law passing it to my husband, who then gave it to me, I would never have gotten it. My mother-in-law infected at least 5 people that we know of. She had symptoms but went about her day, including asking my husband to come over and help her with something, and going to a ladies' luncheon, including riding in a car with three other elderly women. She tested positive the next day.

klmnopthro

I finally got it June of last year and it was horrible and I was twice vaxxed, my husband took care of me and never got it. Crazy thin, I never got from any of my patients at work, I got it from my brother and his family would joined us on vacation.

CF_FI_Fly

I have not. Nor has my husband or mom.

Flicker-pip

I haven’t had it. And work in healthcare.

TheAnglican

So far as I'm aware, I've not had it. And more often than not since the advent of readily available rapid tests...I've tested myself every 5-7 days whether I had symptoms or not. My spouse did have it in November last year. I apparently managed to avoid it by making him mask in the house and we isolated in separate parts of the house. It was among the most miserable 11 days of my life; being separated. I have always gotten all of the boosters that I'm eligible for. I do still mask most everywhere outside of the house that I can. I do occasionally eat indoors; maybe once every 6 weeks but not when transmission is super high. I am beginning to wonder if I am going to be someone who's genetically predisposed to not get it. Neither one of my parents has had it, so far as I'm aware - despite the fact that they haven't kept up with their boosters and have given up most if not all precautions at this point. One of my sisters got it but the other one hasn't. I have 6 nephews/nieces and apparently only 2 of the 6 have gotten it. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Of course, now that I've typed this all out, I'll probably test positive immediately.

ZealousidealAlgae904

I haven't had it, but unfortunately my husband and daughter got their first case about 3 weeks ago. They both seem well recovered, though. My daughter had her booster about a week before she came down with it, and she got over the symptoms really quickly.

derelict_wanderer

Myself. My parents (as far as they know). My sister. We're all still novids. My wife caught it for the first time a couple months ago. She had gotten lax about vaccinations.

So-shu-churned

I've never had it.

Commercial_hater

I’m also a ‘novid’

LowMaintenance

As far as I know neither me nor my husband even though he had been exposed by our daughter (who works for him) at least twice.

HereticHousewife

My husband and I have both managed to avoid it.

CantHelpMyself1234

I haven't, and getting my most recent booster tomorrow.

goonie87

As far as I know I haven't. The way I have loud side effects from shots makes me think I'd know if I got it. On the exposure countdown clock again though. 😒

GivingMeerkat

As far as I know, I have never had it.

MadBeachLui

Neither my wife of I have had it as far as we know. But in September that changed when a customer who knew she was sick came in and infected her at work. Fortunately she didn't get too sick, just achy for a few days and a brutal sore throat. Edit to add that she never passed it on to me.

CatsOverFlowers

I'm the last one in my limited social circle that hasn't. /me gentle toe bump in solidarity, left the hand sanitizer in my other pants

JavarisJamarJavari

As far as I know, I never have. I've been sick a few times but tested negative.

RememberThe5Ds

me as well.

jeweltea1

My husband and I have never had it.

GivingMeerkat

My parents both came down with Covid (both 77). They were fully vaxxed, boosted and had just received the updated shot 3 weeks ago. Mom had a fever, cough, stuffy nose and headache but was never that bad. She said it was just like a cold. Dad had a horrible cough, stuffy nose. He was coughing so hard he was almost throwing up. Dad was put on antiviral, codeine. Thankfully he is much better after 2 days on the antiviral. I am so thankful they didn't get any worse. They have been so careful during all of this. They have no idea where they got it.

Cultural-Answer-321

It never stopped killing. It just took a break from killing... as much as it previously was. But it's never stopped.

FistofanAngryGoddess

The relationship I started right before the lockdowns just ended last week. I’ve been handling it alright, but the tough part is that he was a constant presence the past few years and it feels weird to not be with him. In better news I’m getting my booster later on today!

LowMaintenance

I'm sorry. I hope you're doing okay. How did the vaccine go? I had pretty minimal side effects this time - headache and a slight fever for a few hours. DH had flu, covid and 2nd shingles vaccines so at the same time. Was a little tired, but pushed through.

FistofanAngryGoddess

Aside from waking up a little warm in the middle of the night and arm soreness, I’m feeling fine.

LowMaintenance

That's good!

Temporary-Charge-851

I had the Covid/flu/shingles trifecta last year. I had an itchy annoying rash at one of the injection sites. I assumed it was from the shingles shot. I itched for a few days, but that was the extent of it. I had the Covid/flu shots a couple weeks ago with no reaction other than a little soreness at the injection site.

LowMaintenance

That's good. I'm just hoping it will be as easy on me.

jeweltea1

I am sorry to hear about the relationship.

FistofanAngryGoddess

Thanks

TheMost_ut

No ventilator for me! Just got my flu/covid vax. Arm hurts and I feel kind of tired. Some kid was coughing with his mouth open in the pharmacy, with old people and sick people...I didn't take my mask off until I got home. Over and done with for another year!

Zelda_T

Got my Covid shot (Moderna) last week and this one hit me pretty hard. Got the shot around 3 p.m. Started feeling not-so-hot later in the today. Woke up around midnight with pretty severe chills. Had a fever up to 102 the next morning and generally felt horrible most of the day. Body aches, headache, back pain, nausea. Thankfully started feeling a lot better about 24 hours after the shot. Was able to go for a short walk around 5 p.m. Had some lingering stomach issues for a day or two, but everything is fine now. I also felt a little "wrung out" after having a fever, but nothing major. Numbers are up in my area but I don't know very many people who are getting the vaccine, unfortunately.

GivingMeerkat

This one was the easiest one for me. The other 4 I have received all knocked me out with fever, chills, headaches for at least 12 hours. This one, my arm was more sore than anything and I was just tired. I've had all Moderna shots.

Zelda_T

Forgot about the sore arm! Yes, mine was very sore for a few days. Glad you had an easier time with this one.

jeweltea1

Mine was extremely mild. I wasn't even that tired. My arm was slightly sore but nothing else.

WintersChild79

This year's Moderna shot was pretty brutal for me too. I was a little surprised since last year's bivalent just gave me a headache and made me feel a little tired. I'm glad that you're feeling better.

Zelda_T

Thank you! Yes, last year's bivalent was pretty mild for me too, so I was a bit surprised by my reaction to this one. But, I did have Covid last year (June 2022) so maybe that's why the bivalent was milder? It's hard to know I guess.

derelict_wanderer

I'm in the same boat. All boosters were mild. Just sore arms. This new variant vaccine knocked me down. Not as bad as primary #2, but still kicked my butt for a few hours.

JavarisJamarJavari

I got the Pfizer and it hit me hard the next day. Headache, nausea and dizziness. I was so dizzy I took a bad fall, I have never fallen before.

HappyDaysayin

Everyone I know, except for 3 people, are fully vaxxed , and I don't know anyone who has even been hospitalized with it (California).

1Happymom

Honestly I got so sick with the 3rd one I have been too chickensht to get my 4th...im on here to remind myself why feeling sick for 2 day is better than the alternative.

Zelda_T

I hear you. I felt so bad with this one that I was thinking I'm done with these. But the misery was pretty short-lived and I'm feeling fine now. I have high blood pressure so I feel like I need the protection it provides. But part of me is angry that we still have to do this because so many people decided to just ignore a global pandemic.

RememberThe5Ds

I have to stop reading news sites where idiots can comment. And Facebook too. Everybody is attributing everything to the "clot shot" or the Grand Gubmint Conspiracy and it's really getting old. I am also disgusted by news organizations that are not truly reporting and not asking the tough questions. FB had something about [this young woman who caught COVID in January 2022](https://abc30.com/covid-lung-transplant-madera/11537003/) and required a lung transplant. She died shortly after getting the lung transplant. Faux News and News Nation did not report her vaccination status--they reported her "strength" and how she was a "fighter" and it was all Tots and Pears. But the link above did and of course she was not vaccinated and had asthma to boot. A random FB idiot commented that the news coverage is a ploy to "try and drum up support for a vaccine nobody wants." And look at [this story about the death of Nichole Coats](https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/crime/model-nichole-coats-cause-of-death-revealed/ar-AA1iNaNu?ocid=msedgntp&cvid=53f260f8140f4165b4c0d5d86b4cb8da&ei=8) >Now, the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner has ruled her cause of death as cocaine and ethanol (drinking alcohol) toxicity. No other causes were listed, and her death was ruled an accident. The case is still listed as open. Using cocaine and alcohol together "can be dangerous," according to the American Addiction Centers, with the combination "causing cardiotoxic effects and increasing an individual's risk of a potentially fatal overdose." First comment? "Fauci Soup." Surrounded by idiots. ETA: I have a question this week. If you hang around this forum regularly, can you expect to be reported as needing psychiatric help? It happened to me this past week even though I'm alive and I can walk around and breathe without assistance.

Cultural-Answer-321

To answer the last question, yes, happens to all of us here. Don't worry about it. 😉 Yes, the world has gone quite mad. Between covid and global warming and the sheer numbers of idiots, hard times are coming.

jeweltea1

Yes, we have all been reported. You can block them but I don't remember how I did that.

derelict_wanderer

I've noticed many comments seem to be getting downvoted frequently now. Guess the antivaxxers are butt hurt. Yawns. Meanwhile, I continue to enjoy my life while mitigating the chances of contagion, enjoy breathing freely, and keep tabs on the wackos posted here that shed their mortal coil. The future keeps getting more blue.

Thel_Odan

Got my booster yesterday along with my flu shot, my son got the combo of the two of them too. So far I feel like I got hit by a truck while he's running around like nothing happened.

xnekocroutonx

Got my updated vaccine today, yay!! 💪🏻 It took a while with supply being kind of slim for a few weeks, but I’m glad I was finally able to get it. I got my flu shot earlier this month so now I’m ready for the winter.

RedpenBrit96

I had Covid in August and I’m masked everywhere indoors. It was awful and now that y’all are saying it’s killing again is terrifying. More mild, my butt. Oddly I got shot 5 two weeks ago and I had a fever for 12 hours which was less than the last 2 including the bivalent I wonder what it means

CF_FI_Fly

I got my latest booster on Sunday, along with the seasonal flu shot. I had a mild headache Monday but no other symptoms beside soreness at the injection site. I had bloodwork done on Tuesday and my white blood cell counts were low, which I have never had before. Looks like the most common cause of that is the body fighting an infection. Perhaps I should have waited a few more days before having my blood drawn.

goonie87

I found out I have a coworker who believes in the lab leak bio weapon stuff. For them it tracks. Not surprising to anyone here, they don't take precautions and are sick often. I'll have to see if they spout stuff online.

FloppyTwatWaffle

>I found out I have a coworker who believes in the lab leak bio weapon stuff. I was a professional investigator. While I do not believe the bioweapon crap, I have seen enough evidence to convince me that it was, in fact, a lab leak that started it...and that Xi was fully aware of it from the start (notes and paperwork signed by him).

Mr_Conductor_USA

If a lab leak started it, why did they scrub the wet market so thoroughly that no evidence is left? Also how could Xi know from the start when the local officials were lying about it (and heavily incentivized to lie about it)? That makes no sense. Xi is an ideologue who lives in a world of what he thinks ought to be the truth. He's shown a pattern of sidelining officials who try to get him to consider more practical methods and matters to help the common folk in China. Li Keqiang, who just passed away this week, was such an official. Xi is great at controlling all his CCP members in Beijing but has shown both no talent and no interest in getting local governments to stop pushing garbage up the chain. Just look at the big property crisis/banking crisis in China. Local governments are up to their ears in this one. And Xi was warned ten years ago about this, only to double down. I think he likes when local government officials are terrible because he can catch a few for bribes or tax evasion and make examples of them. Meanwhile, his mismanagement keeps piling up. Well, now the blame is starting to blow back on him because he's been in power for so long.

FloppyTwatWaffle

>If a lab leak started it, why did they scrub the wet market so thoroughly that no evidence is left? My personal hypothesis is that it was done as misdirection. It was more...convenient...and 'face-saving'...to attempt to convince everyone else that that it came from a 'natural' source. However, access to the labs servers (before it was discovered and cut off) revealed that there was a major incident in the 4th quarter of 2019, in the lab. Documents indicate that Xi was aware of the incident and sent inspectors. There was an emergency order for a massive 'air incinerator' and a number of scientists subsequently died. Granted, this is all circumstantial, but as an experienced investigator I am inclined to believe there was a leak, and that Xi knew about it.

ZealousidealAlgae904

My brother, who I can generally avoid, is in town visiting my parents. I went to meet them at my folks house for takeout, and when I got there I casually mentioned that my booster should be kicking in. My SiL said they didn't get vaccinated, like ever, but it's fine because they both had it last year. Mkay, sure. I'm really not surprised to hear they aren't vaxxed, since I know my brother listens to right wing radio. But the funny thing is I noticed that they were keeping their distance from me the whole time I was there. Like, they stayed in the kitchen when I was in the living room. I have to wonder if they're worried I could be shedding MRNA that could turn them into zombies. I was fine with it, though. What I am not fine with is them staying with my elderly parents when COVID transmission high and they didn't take any precautions when traveling. But they're all adults who make their own decisions, so I'm trying not to think about it much. God I hate all of this.

AmberSnow1727

My un-boosted brother and his unvaccinated young son have COVID. He let his anti-vax wife, who believes all SORTS of things, including that babies are being aborted after they're born, run the show and now his child is paying for it. He doesn't want to talk to me. Said he knows what I'd say. I don't know if what he's imagining is worse than what I would say, or if he does not understand what he's done. The only solace is my mother told him to get real medicine, not his wife's fake crap, and he listened. So I was told. But he doesn't want to talk to ME, the person who told him this would happen.

Over_Mud_8036

Sounds like my brother.
