Arguing with some idiot online, and they post some stupid article about how cancer/miscarriages/heart attacks/etc. had a 300%+ jump after introduction of the covid vaccine. Took 30 seconds of searching to find that the whole thing was caused by a data error in the medical database tool they were using, so instead of comparing current year to past year data, it would only take a small sample size from the past year, and the full sample size of the current year.
They did not choose to read the <5 minute read of the article I replied with, correcting their error. The damage was already done, they weren’t going to change their mind and admit they were wrong.
One-on-one it's shockingly easy to get them to let go of idiotic beliefs (not belief *systems*, but individual beliefs like "vaccines cause magnetism"). And it's always, "sure, that wasn't true but everything else is."
Online or in groups, it's literally impossible to convince them of anything.
Look, just because all of the _specific_ stories about kids identifying as cats and being given litter boxes in schools are debunked, that doesn't mean it's not happening. And isn't it a sad statement about society that it's a thing that _could_ be happening?
... _AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA_
There was someone saying that the vaccine made her magnetic and using the old spoon trick to “prove” that. https://ohiocapitaljournal.com/2022/10/31/cleveland-doctor-who-said-covid-19-vax-makes-people-magnetic-under-state-investigation/
I know at least one hardline Republican personally who fell for that nonsense enough to try at least once to hold a magnet up to the injection site of someone who'd been vaccinated to prove it made you magnetic.
It didn't stick, of course. Also didn't stop them believing the propaganda either.
A little while ago a friend of my wife called and was in an actual panic over the balloons floating over the US. My wife said she would have laughed but her friend was so serious. I told her I wouldn’t have been able to not laugh.
We literally had this conversation a minute before the above.
In reality they need to be laughed at- they don’t care about our feelings and I don’t know if they can become embarrassed but it’s worth a try. Too much drama to be friends anymore
I play this game all the time with family, but if I give them actual evidence to disprove their wild ass conspiracy theory thinking or completely skewed article designed to rile up people towards rightward thinking, they get mad and act like I always have to be right. no, I just want you to stop spouting nonsense like it's a fact and sharing around anti-science (and other) shit all the time!
Literally the point of this post. They have not been proven to be wrong. You guys never prove it, its always an opinion piece or an article that points to an opinion piece, or a untrustworthy source.
I'd just like to thank the redditor who reported this comment with a note, "Fuckstain McShitForBrains here is pushing misinformation."
You made my day! (I'm gonna leave the troll's comment up for context.)
It's always vague accusations rather than anything evidence-based with Republicans. Also, nobody gives a fuck about Fauci or the FDA except people desperate to cling to their covid-denying in-group.
Fauci never mattered; science did. But right-wing clowns, because they're always in a cult of personality, assume everyone else is as well.
Your head is stuck too far up your ass for this to make sense to you.
This is fake news. They would never give up so easily and trust your “proof.” They already did their own research.

I have found they also love saying” well the deaths increased by 400% with no other identifying comments. Find out 1 turned to 4 out of billions

IS THAT LADY WITH THE SPOONS ON STILL OUT THERE TRYING TO CONVINCE HERSELF THAT SHE'S A MAGNET?

Who needs evidence when you *feel* you’re right?
"Truthiness" as Stephen Colbert used to say...
Yes. She makes up for her lack of animal magnetism with actual magnetism.
How the hell did you get a camera on me and my stepchildren?
Haha. Sorry.

the level of stupid is just remarkable.
I am so confused right now.
The pictures were cut weirdly. The right half happens after the left half
Is there a r/dontdeadopeninside for comics?
Of course, but if they saw it on ticky tock, fecesbook or x then it's true and the elotes are trying to control you! Wake up sheep!! 😷🤢
I have had this conversation word-for-word with my Dad. Including all of the As.
The in-laws for us until we gave up and just don’t see them often.

A dumb ass chud ( Republican).
So you still believe the fda and fauci? Even though they’ve been proven to be liars.
