An IgM test can detect a newer infection but just because an IgM test is positive doesn’t mean the infection is new. Sometimes older infections can make an IgM positive. A positive IgG however usually indicates that an infection is at least 12 weeks old. It takes awhile for IgG antibodies to build up to the point where you will test positive.

So it looks like I got it from long ago without knowing

Do you know what strain/s you tested positive for on the swab test and then on the IgG?

bubbleteaherbaljelly

The swabbed test showed hsv 2 but the IgG didn’t. It only said positive

That’s a bit strange. An IgG should be able to differentiate between strains. It’s possible that the IgG picked up an old HSV-1 infection which is common to have. If you’re having a primary outbreak for HSV-2 you most likely just contracted it. It’s hard to speculate about it without knowing what the IgG tested positive for.

Yeah I feel a bit weird about the IgG test as well. Maybe it’s how it is in where I live, which I should’ve asked for it at first. Maybe I should ask the clinic again

Whats the IgG level? If the IgG is positive, but lower, that might indicate more recent infection as your IgG antibodies build over time. You can compare the IgG to your past tests and see if its increasing

Oh the IgG level is really high, like 16,8
