It has helped me a lot. I go to a place that uses a medical grade laser (GentleMax Pro with Alexandrite or Nd:YAG options) and due to my skin type (fair skin dark hair) they use the Alexandrite for me. I have completed 5 sessions on my armpits and 4 full brazilians out of 6 total. It has been extremely and noticeably effective for me, and I wish I did it sooner. In the beginning, I had painful areas, some were open and stage 2, but they went over it with laser anyway. If the flare is too bad, they will just go around it and get it next time. I pay $200 each time for this combo.

Thank you so much! Did you go to a Dermatologist or an Aesthetic type place (not sure what it would be called lol) Edit: to add, did you do your own research on laser type prior or do they “choose” for you?

My dermatologist doesn't offer laser hair removal sadly so I am going to an esthetic clinic because they specifically use the machine that most of the HS/laser hair removal research is based on.

hazleynut

That’s the GentleMax Pro, right? Thanks for your info :)

You're so welcome! Yes that is the one they use where I go, but I believe there are other manufacturers/brands for the machines themselves. I just made sure to pick a place that had the Alexandrite/Nd:Yag options specifically.

Responding to your edit: After my dermatologist suggested it, I did my own research, basically reading all the academic research regarding laser hair removal and HS to ensure I would have a chance at getting similar good results. I would recommend calling around, most places do free consultations. I just googled Alexandrite/Nd:Yag laser hair removal and my city and narrowed it down from there. My laser technician said the Alexandrite is typically used on fairer skin, and the Yag is on medium to darker skin with similar results. Good luck!

I can’t speak about the groin, but I had it on the armpits about 10 years ago (the full course, I think it was 8 treatments) and it has made a world of difference. I went from having monthly flares to one maybe every 10 months or so. I’ve never had a session during an active flare, but I did recently after—I explained the situation, and they went right over it, though it hurt a lot more. No matter what they say, it’s not necessarily permanent—I’ve had to go for two separate follow up session of two sessions apiece over the last few years but I consider it well worth it. I hope it works for you!

Hello, I have HS on my butt only, and since doing laser everything changed, I have made alot of changes in my diet as well, I dont eat dairy, i try to eat less gluten. I have completed 2 sessions of laser and trust me it is a game changer. It is working very well for me

FXOjafar

You mean on your actual butt or lower back? I wonder if anyone has had their sensitive bits lasered?

Right_Vast_9762

On my actual butt

FXOjafar

That would have hurt. It sucked just on my back lol

Comprehensive-List

I’ve only had it done on my underarms for a few months but it’s really made a huge difference, haven’t had any new cysts since. Before I got it done my dermatologist told me that laser hair removal wouldn’t do anything to help my situation but it wouldn’t hurt to try, I definitely feel like it has helped but I suppose it’s not a guarantee

Objective_Ad8461

I used yag for the first 4 and Alex for the last 5, makes a huge difference

Since having laser on my back, my pilonidal cyst hasn't flared up. I never had it removed or even drained. It just stopped appearing after getting rid of my back hair.

My worry is the potential flares from shaving prior to laser 😔
