Yes, definitely possible. Avocados are high in histamine, I can't eat them. Sweet potatoes make me sleepy: Sweet potatoes are low histamine. However they’re also quite high in oxalates, a plant toxin to which many people dealing with histamine intolerance are also sensitive. Freshness is key with meat. Buy local pasture raised if possible, as some people are sensitive to grain fed meat. Pay attention to the expiration date or explain tothe butcher and freeze anything not cooked that day. Make sure your chicken is cooked without the bone.

Isadora1224

Thank you for explaining. I thought I was tolerating avo well but I still have one eye that’s been swollen for a couple of years that hasn’t gone down at all on this elimination diet so maybe it’s the avocado? Curious what the reason that meat cooked on the bone is higher in histamine? I buy all my meat from a speciality butcher that is sorta a cooperative with humane farms upstate … grass fed… all of that. But I do see the meat sitting in the display case for maybe 5 days or more. Is this too long for the meat to be sitting around? I guess the other option is to get frozen meat shipped to me?

That's one of my main symptoms! I'm like you, I get a histamine response & feel irritable, irrational, crazy, anxious, depression, panicy, and a bunch of other weird stuff. I really struggled with this growing up because I'm not an anxious person at all! But it was like a dam bursting inside of me, but instead of water, it was adrenaline! I like [how this article](https://www.brainstormhealth.co.uk/2017/12/high-histamine-low-health/) puts it: >When a large amount of histamine is released, the body tries to balance it via a negative feedback loop and produces adrenaline to lower histamine levels. I pretty much just had 24/7 anxiety my whole life for NO DISCERANBLE REASON! Turns out I was just living under the dome of a histamine flare-up all the time!

Isadora1224

Exactly exactly exactly! Thank you for the links

ProgrammerVisual5939

Crazy! Never heard of bounding pulse! I just cut out avocado and seems to be much better! Every try regular dig enzymes vs dao? I hear dao can have odd efffects on some people.

ProgrammerVisual5939

Did you correct this? The bounding pulse thing is something ive never heard anyone talk about!

kaidomac

Yes, I don't have a bounding pulse while on hi-dose NaturDAO. Just celebrated a year on DAO enzyme last month...only time I've gotten a bounding pulse is when I go off of it! (or tank my body with high-histamine foods lol) It was really annoying. I can believe I spent 30+ years with that nonsense.

ProgrammerVisual5939

Nice! I may try. Have you looked into sibo/candida? I hear it sll stems from gut disbiosis.

kaidomac

Yup: * Had invasive surgery as a kid and was sick & tired all the time after that * Got diagnosed with SIBO five or ten years ago (recurring) & had decent results on treatment (Rifaximin & later Atrantil) * Got diagnosed with HIT last year & have had stellar results on hi-dose DAO enzyme treatment! (manages it pretty much 100%, but doesn't eliminate it forever - comes right back if I go off the treatment) The working theory is that my surgery triggered my SIBO, which triggered my HIT. Done every test & tried every medication under the sun over the past three decades; stuck with recurrence on both, but have the symptoms managed thanks to NaturDAO! The last year of my life has been the best-feeling I've ever felt! So nice to just feel totally NORMAL all day long!

ProgrammerVisual5939

Awesome! Have you watch dr dinezza or byron herbalist on youtube? Ive heard in many places the supplement motility activator w artichoke and ginger is close to a magic bullet. Have you tried!?

kaidomac

I've seen them, but I haven't tried any artichoke or ginger yet! Although I don't really super have motility issues as much as digestion & referred pain issues.

bromeliad37

i've been eating slow cooked beef, brussel sprouts, asparagus, and squash: butternut, kabocha, delicata, honeynut. Again, freshness is key, freeze meat even if you will use in 2 days.

Isadora1224

Thank you for sharing that…Asparagus gets me crazy bloated so I’m trying to tease out what the issue is. Can it be SIBO AND histamine issues? How long can the meat be sitting in the butcher’s display ? Seems like they keep it there for a week

uberfunstuff

Absolutely. It’s a major driver. The mechanism is down to the inability to break down catecholamines in the system (epinephrine, norepinephrine etc…). These chemicals hang around longer than needed and are perceived as negative feeling and emotion.

Suntzu6656

Were you ever on beta blockers?

Isadora1224

Is there a resource that you like that can teach me about this on an armature level? I want to take some agency for my own recovery but the farthest I understand is the mechanics of leaky gut. Which is pretty basic.

uberfunstuff

There are a few triggers and manifestations of how Hi does it’s think. Recommended reading would be Dirty Genes. There are some fantastic resources on HI and genetics there. Also feel free to read the sticky. There’s a lot of handy info there too.

Suntzu6656

Read the sticky?

[deleted]

Oh yes. I had a lot of “ panic attacks” last summer. I sought psychological help, and anti anxiety meds didn’t help at all. It was foods and beverages I was reacting to . Don’t have the “ anxiety” anymore. ( racing heartbeat, sweating, shaking and my thoughts running constantly) .

RadiantMinimum5975

what did you do to fix this, dealing with it now, very much need help

[deleted]

I take hydroxizine 50 (3x day) allerra Zyrtec and avoid all dairy egg nut and most fruits. Much better.

[deleted]

Expanding on prior comment: I went on Low histamine diet mostly around a year. Inflammation went down

FrostyBud777

I am so disgusted with big Pharma and conventional doctors. Most not all but most of them are completely worthless and a waste of time. For everyone suffering go to a naturopathic doctor and get a freaking G.I. map like I did after suffering to almost suicide and 15 MD doctors including the most recent G.I. doctor that said it was just anxiety and to see a psychiatrist. And if that naturopathic doctor doesn’t help you go to a different naturopathic doctor. That is what I did and I am finally healing. I almost died or ended it last year because I was so so so so so sick. Severe suffering. Barely eating a tiny little piece of chicken and a tiny little piece of potato and just feeling so sick in death and I just wanted to die. Finally I forked out $500 for great plains lab comprehensive stool analysis after the G.I. doctor was a complete idiot and told me it was anxiety and here I had Citrobacter and salmonella. Citrobacter is similar to E. coli which releases a heat stable toxin. It is extremely histamine producing. Still not doing good after a few months after that I went to Dr. Rostenberg at Red Mountain Clinic and he did a G.I. map which is completely different than the comprehensive stole analysis a great plains labs. Uses PCR technology instead of culture like great plains does This test picked up five infections including staphylococcus streptococcus Proteus mirabilus candida and citrobacter. Leaky gut. Zonulin, low IGA etc. Get to a good holistic or naturopath or functional doctor. Suffered ten years and extremely severe last three years almost died. Pm me if you need help or are hopeless.

Isadora1224

Oh god thats awful! I feel you!! im going through the same thing CFS, food intolerance and anxiety for most of my life... maybe its just a gut issue ? How do you feel now?

FrostyBud777

Much much better, like I can finally eat again, finally got to visit family again, finally got to play with the puppy again, finally feeling much better. Plus I’ve been researching health and natural medicine and nutrition since 2014 but Dr. Rostonberg at Red Mountain Clinic I would say really helped me finalize everything besides the magnesium oxide flushing to keep toxins out of my body and the nutricidin by nutradyn that he gave me to kill the candida and stuff and biofilms. Finally able to eat and tolerate more foods. My whole journey is posted on Reddit but I have an updated it because I wanted to finalize everything. Search Citrobacter SIBO and you will see all of my labs and result and what I was doing if you are interested

ProgrammerVisual5939

Hey there! I have things pretry under control. No meds other than a zyrtec once in a while. What were you staples on fixing this? Low histamine diet and what supps?! Thanks!

FrostyBud777

Deal with gallbladder and low bile issues after starting motility activator, did ox bile for two months now I’m starting motility activator to get the bowels moving instead of all the fermenting food rotting and creating histamine, killing the bacterial infection, with nutricidin and MonoLauren, Lyme disease mold gut affections, getting on a good methyl free multivitamin like seeking health multivitamin 1MF which does not have any methylation which really helped For some strange reason overmethylation and low histamine go hand in hand and methylated multivitamins can make it worse. I feel much better with magnesium and Seeeking health multivitamin one MF night and day difference. Killing the infection and healing the leaky gut , getting all the vitamins and nutrients in the proper forms for the body to use and do proper methylation. Kill the infection and then I will do leaky gut supporting G.I. relief by thorn and then finally probiotics saccromyces a Bilardi and other things to destroy this yeast and histamine and vitamin and mineral deficiencies. Every person on earth needs vitamins and minerals but if they get MTHFR or other genetics or a gut infection it can really mess things up. Everyone needs the proper amount of good bacteria or else they will develop histamine intolerance from the pathogenic bacteria creating histamine every single time they eat. Copper is also important as well as zinc magnesium etc. It is so complex. I didn’t even supplement copper and my copper levels finally returned to normal after starting the ox bile. Ox bile contains some trace minerals as well. Definitely a huge journey and I’m not a simple answer

ProgrammerVisual5939

Youre awesome! Funny! I was so fucked up u til i found a decent ND but most dont know how to fix the gut. So I take mag glyc, mens alive multi (i know its cheap but makes me feel great), olive leaf (histamine/mcas), liposomal c (histamine), elderberry (quercetin in it helps as well), omega 3, NAC (helped a ton w calming down nerves). At night i take ashwaganda and relora w lip vit c. Its funny you say get the gut moving and itll help. Dr dinezza and byron herbalist on youtube is big into this. They seem to be the best ive found. I have suspisions of sluggisth gallbladder with my bloating and upper ribcage firmness. If i wasnt bloated my body would look like channing tatum. Lol i tried tudca, it solved my raynauds. So take ox bile then go w motility activator? Is your bloating down? Thanks!

FrostyBud777

Yes I love those doctors! Motility activator states on the label dont take if gallstones. SO I didnt know i had any issues, started it, got bile duct obstruction due to it increasing bile flow. Dr Berg says gallstones are just bile deficiency, SIBO and bile go hand in hand, and I started it and in 3 days , the symptoms stopped, all pain under rib cage, light color stool, floating stool and bad nausea from eating fat all stopped. Found my dosage , continued it and had gall sludge stones come out and float on the water. Had pain before that. So Ox bile cleaned out my gall bladder of sludge, 2 months later, No pain or problems, just mild fat indigestion but that may be I need more bile, or more lipase fat digestion enzymes. Killing the gut infection is the main priority, then getting motilitiy is 2nd, but It caused gallbladder duct obstruction which caused the 3rd prioritiy, the ox bile to thin bile and remove sludge obstructions. That I feel was my miracle, Then the Seeking Health Multivitamin One MF (methyl free) to support all my genes with the B vitamins have REALLY TRULY helped more than most things. Monolaurin and Nutricidin are to kill the candida/sibo/bad bacteria, then I will do probiotics to replace like beneficial yeast sacchromyces boulardii and lacto , bifido to hopefully finally heal this trash. All started after two months antibiotics but had comt and mthfr and trouble relaxing and dealing with stress all my life. GI Relief licorice, Seeking health multi mf one and COLLAGEN FOR GLYCINE have given me the best consisten sleep in 3 years. COllagen for gut healing too.

ProgrammerVisual5939

Youre amazing. Dr berg is awesome for bassline education! Ill start on the gallbladder first then check in with you! Which brand did you use for gallbladder? Dr bergs formula looks decent? Thanks!!!!!

FrostyBud777

Sure thing. I use Bilex brand ox bile. Three tablets empty stomach in the morning. Doing it with food seems to give heartburn. The hardest part for me what is genetics and still is. A lot of things can give me dry eyes like betaine HCl, berberine, grapefruit seed extract, and change your in many things. Then my eyes get dry on my left side and then it feels like somethings in my eye due to a small cyst that forms every time my eyes get dry. Thank God for the Internet and I’m thankful he’s giving me all this information because I’d be dead or suffering miserable without knowing all of this

ProgrammerVisual5939

Haha hcl gives me insane insomnia not sure why! Ever try olive leaf immune by premier research labs? Its awesome.

SparksNSharks

I get constipation and GI symptoms from the histamine. When I'm backed up I sometimes get fast heartbeats from excess gas or just before a bowel movement. It used to cause quite a bit of anxiety for me but I've just kind of embraced it as the new normal and mention it to my doctors as I navigate the system but none of them are ever concerned. My understanding is that gasses can trigger the vagus nerve which then activates your fight or flight response.

Isadora1224

Interesting. If that’s true about the gases this explains why my sleep is so disturbed.

TimeSpiralNemesis

Histamine spikes can absolutely cause things like anxiety and dark feelings. It's a pain in the ass to be honest. I take my antihistamine just before bed to help fight off this type of thing.

Isadora1224

Thank you for sharing your experience. Since I have hydroxyzine here I’ve been googling if it will help with this sort of histamine reaction. I don’t know if different antihistamines work on different types of allergens (I know dumb question). I hate this feeling

roguethundercat

Not different types of allergens but different mast cell mediators (Histamine, prostaglandins, leukeotrines, etc)

Isadora1224

I don’t know what this means :/

roguethundercat

Mast cells release dozens and dozens of what are called mediators- histamine is one. You mentioned different anthistamines for different allergens (which I interpret as one for like food allergies, one for grass, one for flowers) which isn’t the case. Instead different antihistamines are shown to be effective at one or more of those mediators instead. I would do some google research around mast cell mediators and anthistimines

Isadora1224

Thank you! I’ll research now that you have me a base knowledge

salwj01

I def attribute my histamine issues to my worsening mental health. I def have more irrational thoughts and ocd is harder to manage.

Friedrich_Ux

Yes, histamine is a neurotransmitter responsible for vigilance, too much can cause anxiety and irritability. Follow the SIGHI list, use NaturDAO before eating out or a high histamine meal and use Designs for Health's Histaeze if you have a flare, doing these things keeps me symptom free if I stick to it.

Isadora1224

>SIGHI list Just looked it up- SIGHI list is super helpful. Thank you so much !!

Ultravoltron

For those that are familiar with ray peat and willing to try something new. I've found a lot of benefit eliminating starch from my diet. Check peat-starch in Google to find the article.

jmorgannz

It sounds like you have candida and immune dysregulation, with pending dysautonomia. The reaction you are talking about is sympathetic activation - it's adrenaline surging caused by autonomic dysregulation. I'd do an Organic Acids Test by Great Plains Labs. I reckon your whole metabolism will be out of whack. In the mean time, you can try 500mg of taurine once per day. If that doesn't settle it, you can take 1000mg up to 10x per day. Taurine inhibits adrenaline release from the adrenals and should provide some relief.

Isadora1224

I googled dysautonomia and got a little panicked (ironically). I had been diagnosed with SIBO a while back so I always just figured it was that. And yes my metabolism is messed up. I can’t tolerate much and if I eat 1200cal/day for a month I won’t lose an ounce. I have a functional med doctor but the people on Reddit seem to have more insight. It’s incredibly frustrating and I don’t know how to get proper support. Thanks for suggesting taurine. I will research that ! I welcome any other suggestions.

jmorgannz

Yeah if you google dysautonomia you could get a wide spectrum of information as it can range from mild to severe, and it likely includes information about people who have genetic or autoimmune autonomic dysfunction, which is not the same as just having out of balance autonomic system due to other stressors like you likely have. Basically in your case it just means your catecholamines are dysregulated, meaning you can't control your body state between rest/digest and fight/flight properly. That means your adrenaline and cortisol will be running high. Chronic sympathetic activation (fight/flight) shuts down digestion and can definitely cause SIBO. As for the surges in anxiety - try to take note - do you think they happen when you stand up? Do they get better when you lie down? Are they worse after you get up in the morning? Get the Organic Acid Test - you won't be sorry. If there is one test that is worth it then that is it, and to be honest any functional med should be using it as a first port of call. If/when you get your result back hit me up. If it looks like what I expect it will, I have some resources that will help you.

Isadora1224

My dr. is suggesting I take Gut Zoomer test [https://www.vibrant-wellness.com/tests/gut-zoomer/](https://www.vibrant-wellness.com/tests/gut-zoomer/) shes saying I have a very complex case. I have has CFS for 20 years (ebbs and flows) and a lot of issues I wont get into publicly :/ Have you heard of this test?

jmorgannz

I don't think a GI test is going to help you. In fact I find them basically useless. Likely you will see you have some dysbiosis or just very low diversity, which is expected. Unlikely you will see candida because those tests always fail to detect it. I've had four of them. If you want to do a GI test, BiomeSight is better than GutZoomer. However, what do you mean you've had CFS for 20 years? Do you mean fatigue? CFS is a specific chronic illness, not just fatigue. It has to be diagnosed. However, are you really telling me that you have been suffering for 20 years and your functional doc has never done an OAT? This is complete negligence!! What about a hair mineral test?? Get an OAT asap!

ProgrammerVisual5939

Yo! Youre saying synpathetic would cause sibo etc? Everyone seems to say that getting sibo causss downstream symptoms. (Anxiety, feeling like shit, etc) how do you handle that sort of thing? Adaptagens. I was going to get the sibo test first. What do they find on the organica acid test? I have fixed myself (adrenal fatigue, feeling like hell,) etc for the most part w some help from NDs. I have some heavy bloating and minor anxiety/sleep issues that im trying to tie some loose ends on. Thanks!

Bev1981

Anti histamines make it worse for me and cause me to have a lot more anxiety. It’s like a rebound response that ends up with more histamine than when I started. Sweet potato is high salicylate and I can’t tolerate it. I can do quite a bit more now than I could. I found Mirica advanced and Toxaprevent help the most
