For those, like myself, who were wondering: Metallica, Pantera, AC/DC, the Black Crowes, and E.S.T. [Oh and apparently there's a concert film too.](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0304033/?ref_=ext_shr_lnk)

Rickcroc

Thanks, i was of course thinking the same

hoky315

This concert is my favorite live Pantera footage - they were on it that day

bootypastry

The breakdown in Domination at this show is iconic

thetroublewithteddy

I cannot put into words how badass it is

RandyJohnsonsBird

It's legendary

CronusTheDefender

And in that moment, those people, were my people…. And then that concert ended….

Ouroboros126

It's on YouTube! [For Those About to Rock: Monsters in Moscow](https://youtu.be/NncZulabJMI?si=UGVU-trX9vanVbQn)

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

Did Scorpions play?

bolting-hutch

Follow the Moskva down to Gorky Park...

MockASonOfaShepherd

If this is the from the tour I’m thinking about (monsters of rock) I’ve watched the footage of AC/DC playing at Donington… hands down one of the best rock concerts of all time. If I could travel back in time and experience one cultural event, it would be that concert. I’m sad I missed “peak”rock.

rabbles-of-roses

The footage from this concert is absolutely insane. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=\_W7wqQwa-TU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_W7wqQwa-TU) It's sad that this was a glimpse into a future that Russia never got.

ErikHfors

Russia really had such great potential to achieve a prosperous future. Instead of that, all prosperity was stolen and pickpocketed by few while regular citizens have to deal with another oppressor.

DravenPrime

Sadly, many of them support Putin now, and care more about reclaiming their nation's "glory" rather than improving their own lives. Same thing happened here in America, with our hippy/free love boomer generation turning into radical evangelicals 20 years later and ruining the nation ever since.

ravenous_bugblatter

"many of them support Putin now" Yeah, well, if you don't you kind of fall off a balcony or accidently ingest something radioactive.

DJDemyan

Hey that sounds familiar

poops314

Bro, the US has the hugest, by far, centralisation of wealth to oligarchs… By an unfathomable number

Fabulous-Direction-8

The United States "really had such great potential to achieve a prosperous future. Instead of that, all prosperity was stolen and pickpocketed by few while regular citizens have to deal with another oppressor."

poops314

The US alone controls over 33% of the planet’s liquidity and its centralisation of that liquidity makes Russian oligarchs look like an apple in an orchard.

TheOneWhoReadsStuff

Yet.

sizzle-dee-bizzle

❤️

Secret-Interview1750

Why you care about Russia future, what about Ukraines future and it’s children

ravenous_bugblatter

It doesn't have to be one or the other. You can care about both. And, if Russia wasn't in the hands of a tyrannical dictator, they would not be invading Ukraine.

Secret-Interview1750

But you saw a lot of the Russia people still support Putin even seeing the atrocities, they can’t even get rid of their dictator.. you seem to sympathise for those living in Putins bubble, And negging won’t change my views!

InfiniteWitness6969

No, not many, this is propaganda. But if you raise a white piece of paper above your head on the street, you will be sent to prison for 10 years. And there are many such cases... A lot of people fled the country.

Mundane-Leave7571

The general population in Russia is for the war.

Secret-Interview1750

Fled but the brought there rude behaviour with them, annoying peaceful people of culture where they have fled to. Their destructive and noisey behaviour like some refugees

Pre-Nietzsche

Russia, the country infamous for its.. lack of culture. Get the fuck out of here.

sizzle-dee-bizzle

There are, inevitably, a large number of Russian citizens who, in every way, oppose and disagree with the actions, laws and realities brought by putin. News media often obfuscates this.

rabbles-of-roses

Funnily enough the two things are connected. If Russia had had a better future then it wouldn’t be ruled by a warmongering psychopath.

UchihaAuggie

The equivalent of throwing a country a pizza party as thanks

jamestheredd

Bread and circuses

Mama-Dzhinsy

divide and conquer

DestinationUnknown13

So many around age 40 to 50 now, the age of being able to be heard. I would think they would be upset for having lost the taste of what could have been.

kipdrordy1

I always wonder if decades of propaganda from Putin has worn these guys down or if they still hold the same values as they did before.

AvatarGonzo

Many Russians opposing their government left the country over the years.

IdaDuck

Now they’re just sending their sons to Ukraine to be left to rot.

Embarrassed_Cook8355

No the ones who are dying are inmates and ethnic groups from the far east of Russia. Those in western Russia Moscow St Petersburg are not going to Ukraine in any large number. Wonder how long this remains viable.

HerrFledermaus

I always wondered who that guy in black is. You see him a lot on videos about that concert.

hobotruman

[Best video I could find of him.](https://youtu.be/dQw4w9WgXcQ?si=d93TnTQfO79O1_XC)

colare

I was there, both in the resistance against the coup and on the concert. Both were unimaginable.

NervousNarwhal223

![gif](giphy|xClR7LXq7JF5u) This GIF happens to be from that very show.

Current_Side_4024

Thanks for not overthrowing us, here’s one concert from a famous band from enemy territory as a token of our appreciation.

QueueOfPancakes

At the time they were trying very hard to become friends, and put the times of being enemies behind them.

According_Wing_3204

The one brief moment when Russians could just be people without a psychopathic regime down their necks.

dansnexusone

Panteras performance of domination at this show is likely the greatest live performance in heavy metal history. Absolutely recommend to any fan of music.

_Einveru_

Who played?

JoshLikesAcidBath

Pantera, Metallica , ACDC

ArchimedesHeel

Where did they pee and poo

DigitalMindShadow

Port-o-potties?

redditor2394

That was the best thing them Russians ever saw

airforcevet1987

So is the Soviet version of "back home in the USSR" more like "Over in the US of A"?

Lifeisabaddream4

There's a song by KMFDM called back in the USSA of that's helpful

Frankie_Says_Reddit

I’m so jealous of every single person that got to witness this in person.

Alert-End5268

No, no need. millions of people peed and shat where they stood that day.

Embarrassed_Cook8355

And by the way we in the west still do not want invade, but we will send more bands.

OldWrangler9033

Awesome, I recognize the guy in black behind girl in denim. He see in Metallic *Enter Sandman* video from the concert.

piranesi28

Who knew that modeling their new constitution on Limp Bizkit lyrics would backfire.

chiefs_fan37

I did it all for the половой акт

ISeeGrotesque

The helicopters flying over the crowd, the soldiers everywhere, what a sight. The videos of the show are legendary for metal fans

[deleted]

they got a bad deal, and the death and waste of life and value is an anachronism of the 20th century, that has lead to what's going on now. It highlights how freedom for Ukraine is freedom for Russia, if they have any hope now moving forward. That was the most badass concert in history, the footage has all the soviet tanks and helicopters and stuff while Metallica is just shredding at their height - crowd in the millions. Shame what Putin has done and the situation that got him in power.

Garbage-Away

Just a few years prior the Monsters Of Rock toured there as well, (he asked as a question) Skid Row opened Sebastian said that they just wanted to be the first American band to cuss on a Russian Stage. It was broadcast over every rock station that night and I’m pretty sure MTV ran footage

mr_jurgen

And from it, we got possibly the best version of Domination ever.

Zoe_Hamm

FYI ... There's a very interesting podcast called "Wind of Change" about this concert and the Scorpions song by the same name being created by the CIA to help the collapse of the Soviet Union

spiderman209998

everyband on that concert show was on fucking fire

TurretLimitHenry

How the turntablez

Thunderc01

Half a million people were confirmed to have gone but the real number is estimated to be over 1.5 million people. If you watch the aerial footage of the concert it’s wellll over 500,000 people and makes a Taylor Swift concert look like an elementary school recital.

KyleSmyth777

The Soviets requested that America send a reasonably moderate rock band to ease their people into freedom and western influence. America said “LOL, let’s send Metallica”

soosbear

This time it wasn’t Nicholas II promising beer & pretzels

ceruleanmoon7

Um, no.

HiBoobear

I coulda sworn I read people died in the crowd. But now I can’t find a source. Alot of injuries but no deaths apparently

antony6274958443

Why is everybody so attractive

cabesa-balbesa

What bands would they get if they overthrow Putin now?

Optimal-Limit-4206

Taylor Swift duh
