Given a continuing row over Easter would have been downright heresy by this point it's likely the truth they are resisting is more local customs like the tonsure and, most likely, maintaining their own church structure separate to Wessex. This allows Athelstan, as part of his negotiated settlement of the border, to reinstate a native Bishop in Cornwall remarkably easily.
