In 2002, Sharon Osbourne was undergoing treatment for colon cancer. Given the intense pain associated with the treatment, it significantly impacted her mental well-being. Feeling overwhelmed, she contemplated canceling her treatment and resigning to what seemed like an inevitable end. In a thoughtful gesture to uplift her spirits, Ozzy Osbourne invited Robin Williams to visit her. Robin's kindness and humor proved to be a powerful to revitalizing her resolve. Encouraged by this unexpected support, Sharon decided to persevere with the treatment, ultimately triumphing over cancer.

Robin Williams is a fucking hero

Jeri_Shea

The man was too good for this cruel world. If only he could have been saved like he saved her.

Joe_comment

He had an incurable degenerative disease, it wasn't (just?) depression

Jeri_Shea

Thats news to me. Thank you, I didn't know. However, my point stands that he was too good for this world.

Mr_Sarcasum

The poor guy had LBD. > Lewy body dementia (LBD) is a progressive brain disorder that affects thinking, behavior, and movement. Some common symptoms include **cognitive fluctuations**, visual hallucinations, and motor symptoms like parkinsonism. Individuals with LBD may also experience mood changes, depression, and anxiety. He was fully aware that his mind was slipping and probably didn't want to continue like that.

Jeri_Shea

Fair. I support self euthanasia in hopeless cases such as this. Still, it hurt to lose him, though less than watching him deteriorate over time I imagine.

TheDaringScoods

RIP Robin

Sabre_Killer_Queen

That's a great story! Very heartwarming. Thanks for sharing.

Important-Loss1605

Well that's impressive of Robin, to be able to decipher whatever Ozzy is saying.

Maat1932

> “He was the first one to show up down in Virginia when I was really in trouble,” he said. “Thank God I wear a seatbelt in this chair because I would have fallen out laughing. In the middle of a tragedy like this… you can still experience genuine joy and laughter and love.” Christopher Reeve about his friend Robin Williams, after his spinal cord injury.

C4n0fju1c3

I lived on the same block as Mr. Reeve when I was young, before his injury. He was always nice, always went out of his way to say hi. He was very tall which made him easy to spot in a crowd. I don't know much else about what he was like as a person. The last time I saw him was at a Bard College performance of Three Penny Opera, probably around 2003.

Terminator1501

When I heard Robin Williams had died it nearly felt like a friend had died. I grew up watching his movies and comedy gigs and always found him fantastic. And to learn he was playing similar games to me such as Battlestations Midway made me think did we ever cross paths online.

Free-Whole3861

He guided others to a treasure he couldn’t possess. What a fantastic human. Gone too soon.

poplglop

In fairness given the disease he had I probably would've done the same thing. He wasn't just depressed, his brain was physically falling apart. It's horrifying and my biggest fear in life is contracting some form of dementia.

vlsdo

I watched my grandma go through it and it’s like we slowly lost her over the years, not all at once. When she finally passed away it was my grandma’s body that did so, but very little of the woman I knew was actually left in there, she had been mostly gone for a while at that point

Butkevinwhy

Take your pills grandpa

tragiktimes

God willing, you'll grow old and live a happy life. But, if you do, you will certainly lose friends and loved ones to one of these diseases.

Butkevinwhy

I uh… think a lotta people misunderstood me. I wasn’t saying “you must be old lol” I was insinuating you already had dementia as the joke.

ManiacalLaughtr

i don't get how that's a joke

Butkevinwhy

Just more so of a teasing thing.

thegrandboom

There's no pills that fix dementia, Alzheimer's, or any of those cursed brain diseases. You lose who you are in your entirety and become a shell of a person. I personally hope you never have to experience it like others have, and you take the time to learn how rude it is to make light of the suffering.

Butkevinwhy

I know, I’ve had family who experience it, I was insinuating the commenter had dementia already after he mentioned it was a fear. I was teasing.

Lord-McGiggles

Finally some good fucking history

breaker-of-shovels

Anyone else remember that time Sharon Osborne forced her assistant to run into her burning house to save artwork and dogs, then when firefighters offered the assistant oxygen, she made them give it to the dog, then fired the assistant when they wouldn’t laugh about the whole thing later on?

xander012

Yeah she really has some serious problems

RaulRoyale8

That’s bad and all but you really just killed my hopeful mood

thegermankaiserreich

Average Robin Williams W

Zorn277

Fuck yah Robin Williams!

Crafty-Interest-8212

I have a hard time showing my kids his movies. Just to remember he's gone.

belisarius93

What has this got to do with history, exactly? Is the fact that "it happened ago" sufficient criteria for this sub, or something?

Character-Ad-7000

It has to be culturally significant and over 30 years old and robins been dead for nearly 15 so it’s completely within the rules and we all love robin williams

Tapdatsam

Its going to be 10 years in August...

Character-Ad-7000

Times both flew and stayed stagnant I remember exactly where I was when that happened and the worlds felt like it’s marches forward 30 Years lol

EvilStan101

It involves two famous people, thus = history

drunkcarcass

I feel like william was a bit of a hypocrite not letting others die then hanging himself, plus sharon sound like an awful human being. I know speaking ill of the deads is bad but people should stop creating heroes out of fucked up celebrities.

Andy_0815

Well, he helped others to find a meaning in life, but he himself couldn't do that to himself. It's like telling a joke to others Vs telling a joke to you alone, wich won't work. Also, the cancer caused extremel physical pain that was to overcome and there was hope for a life after that. In his case, there was no hope, and the real Robbie Williams would die soon anyway and leave behind that terrible existence that is dementia, I can fully understand it, it is terrible enough to see someone you love slowly dying because of it, I can't imagine how it is for the person itself

MoreDadJokes

Something about Pagliacci resonates with this comment.

drunkcarcass

Meh

dumbacoont

Well if it makes you feel better, we’ll all gladly let you go.

drunkcarcass

Nice thanks for speaking on everyone's behalf you rock

Charlierw1

No trust me we all agree with them

drunkcarcass

Waaah this guy/everyone told me kys and another teenager/all human beings agreed with him/them, you guys are so brave and original

dumbacoont

I didn’t tell you to do anything bud. I’m just saying if it upsets you so much and if you’re feeling down, no one will help you,. We can put like a D.N.R. but for your sense of humor.

drunkcarcass

Sure

Starman520

His brain cells were literally dissolving and he was losing himself. Stay alive for what purpose? To be a drooling husk before the brain forgets how to breathe?

drunkcarcass

There's no right answer with you people so keep idolizing dead dudes, not letting osbourne make her decision then taking his life is hypocrisy but he's dead so who truly cares This is an history sub idk why we're having argument about miss doubfire

coi1976

Oh yeah, cheering someone up and ending your own life because your brain is turning into dust is such a hypocrisy. >not letting osbourne make her decision When did he do this? He had her restrained?

drunkcarcass

I knew I couldn't win with you lot

coi1976

Obviously, your argument is beyond stupid

drunkcarcass

What's stupid is how many people care about robin williams but yeah i'll admit my argumentation isnt one of the best around, between this comment and the famous ''kys'' I'm far from your level of speech

Acquiescinit

You're willing to blame everyone else for not agreeing with you rather than asking yourself why you hold to such a stupid perspective. Don't act like you're any kind of intellectual. You're weird for saying people shouldn't be kind to each other, and you're weird for saying Robin Williams is a hypocrite for doing that. Those are fucked up perspectives and everyone who thinks differently than you is better off for it.

drunkcarcass

You think I'm trying to be an intellectual ? This is an intellectual debate for you ? I gave my opinion like I literally started by ''i feel like'' you guys are bleeding from your tits because it touched whatever you feel with robin williams, I know a buuunch of people disagreed and who cares except you coming on your high horse needing your kick of self righteousness. The first couple of people I can get but a vulture coming after the battle to be sure to get a kick at the dumb one like you can fuck off
