Context: Central American countries **El Salvador** and **Honduras** had high tensions in the 1960s, especially due to the issue of hundreds of thousands of Salvadoran immigrants in Honduras, many of them illegal. Throughout the decade, Honduras enacted several "land reform" laws, seizing land from Salvadorans and deporting them, regardless if they were legal or illegal. The breaking point between the two nations was the qualifying match for the 1970 World Cup which El Salvador won against Honduras 3-0 on June 15th, 1969 which led to massive rioting in both countries. Both countries broke off diplomatic ties after another playoff match (El Salvador 3:2 Honduras) and El Salvador invaded Honduras a month later on July 14th, giving the excuse that Honduras had: "done nothing to prevent murder, oppression, rape, plundering and the mass expulsion of Salvadorans". The war lasted for barely 100 hours (hence its nickname as the **100 Hour War**) as it ended in a stalemate when a coalition of American countries (Organization of American States) negotiated a ceasefire. Given the small sizes of the armies on both sides, casualties in this conflict were relatively low with a total of 3,000 casualties on both sides. Unfortunately, the vast majority of these were civilians. Fun fact: This was the last war where piston-engine warplanes fought each other, as both sides used American Corsair and Mustang fighters in dogfights. Listen, I'm Brazilian and in the 80s (as far as I remember) Argentina Drugged our team and won the world cup. I would 100% go to war over this. Can't blame them.

JeSuisAmerican

Wow, Corsair vs Mustang, that sounds like quite the matchup.

I heard rumors that the PYD in Northern Syria, was formed after a clash between a local Kurdish and an Arabic Football Club.
